    Tighten brake adjuster until you aren't able to spin the wheel by hand. Back the adjuster off 5-7 clicks. Repeat on the other side. Done.

      Costs about a dime at most yard sales. I actually DO have 10 laying around.
      By the way, a screwdriver accomplishes the same thing.

    Lots of ambiguous info on this site about which way to turn the adjuster. Just for the record, my 2013 f-150's right rear e-brake was dragging a bit (I just bought the truck a few weeks ago, right after a Ford dealer had done a rear brake job for the previous owner). I increased the clearance between the shoes and the drum by rotating the star wheel UPWARD. I didn't check the other wheel. Your results may vary.

    Mine r too tight my e brake drags when off and I tried to loosen it turning it the opposite of whT u did didnt work no change at all I then go to tighten it and it starts to become more resistant any ideas it's just the back tires that drag and it's not much just enoph to drain my tank lol

    A lot of comments about which direction to turn it. If you can see the threads of the adjuster, then you can tell which way to turn the nut to lengthen the adjuster which will tighten the brakes. If all else fails, remove the drum and take a closer look at how the shoes move when you turn the adjuster.

    How are tires spinning so freely in park ? I just had rear end ip on stands and spinning each tire was a bear and spun the differential and did not move easily. Is this supposed to be done while in neutral?

    I put on new parking brake pads and adjusted as you showed until the brakes drag just slightly when not engaged. When I engage the parking brake pedal, it goes clear to the floor and still doesn't hold. Is that likely a brake cable issue?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  3 года назад

      +Iowa Backyard Farmer We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c

    I know this is several yrs old but if you are still checking comments - any idea if I had done this procedure twice and it seemingly "unadjusts" after a drive? In each case I did this, the parking brake works immediately after adjustment. Then after a short drive, I come home and its undone? I cant even guess where its going wrong.

    I had the same problem about an hour ago. The fix in the video, well to say the least, wasn't happening. I couldn't put the rubber plug back in. Anyway, the wife came home, cried about the truck, and pressed as hard as she could on the emergency brake pedal until she heard a click. Then she pulled the release lever and problem solved.

    Does the car need to be lifted up on jacks to do this or can they be adjusted while on ground level? Thank you!

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  4 года назад

      +E Nepo Thanks for watching! This can be done on the ground, you do not need to lift the vehicle in any way!

    • @mhsprecher
      @mhsprecher 3 года назад +6

      If it isn't off the ground, you can't see how much drag there is when you spin the wheel. You can do it on the ground, but it may take some more monkeying with it.

    My question is direction of the adjuster. On the left you pulled down on your pry tool making the adjuster wheel go up. Is the right side also made tighter by pulling down on your pry tool making it go up as well? Or is it opposite?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  5 лет назад +4

      +Steve Webb Thanks for checking us out! These should rotate the same way so if this wheel goes up to tighten on one side it should also go up in order to tighten the other side, given these were installed correctly and the same way.

    Hi specifically watch this video so I could find out which way to turn the adjuster because I have a stuck rotor I don't know what the big secret is

    • @beastzeus
      @beastzeus Год назад +2

      U might have to take the rotor off but if its stuck stuck you would have to first loosen by the method shown here, its likely some other part has failed I'm debating taking it back to the dealership who install all new components but the shoes arent grabbing when the brake is fully pressed I know I tested on a hill which pissed me off because its wear and tear on the transmission park gear I now see why a lot of people do their own maintenance because dealers dont always pay attention to detail you may or may not get a goofball mechanic working on your vehicle which is unacceptable if im paying premium dollar for the service

  • @tripn4days
    @tripn4days Месяц назад

    PRO TIP: Turning the adjuster CLOCKWISE draws pads in, which allows you to get the rotors off

      Great video it helped a lot. I had a question.
      If on a hill in neutral, should the parking brake stop the vehicle without being in the park position?

    • @rpmrunner
      @rpmrunner 4 года назад +1

      Daryl G. A parking brake should hold a vehicle in place, most people probably use it to keep the weight of their vehicle on a hill from straining the transmission, but the main reason for a parking brake I assume is for a freak accident where your transmission lets go while it’s parked on a hill.

    • @b6_ruby
      @b6_ruby 4 года назад +1

      Daryl G. while holding the brake pedal and the car in neutral, apply the parking brake 4-5 audible clicks, then let go of the brake pedal (the proper way to apply the parking brake for the best lifespan of the e brakes) and the car should barely even roll back, but if it moves back a bit and you feel a moderate shutter, but then gets held on by the parking brake, it needs more adjusting.

      @@QuickShiftMoto1 i think they were facing the car when they thought that one out but whenever speaking about a vehicle I would use the terminology driver/passenger as right or left can mean two different things depending on which direction you are viewing the vehicle from lol hilarious
