one thing about these 80-91 trucks, ford messed up, they put the windshield electronic control box on the bracket above the e-brake on the lower dash frame above the e-brake pedal, dont just release the e-brake, put your foot on the e-brake pedal then release using your foot to let up the e-brake pedal, if it is released and you let it slam like that it will damage the windshield control box , its even written on that box ( DO NOT DROP), so if you have problems with your windshield wipers stopping while they are turned, this is the problem, and you cant buy that control box anymore, take that control box out open it and see if the electronic board inside is cracked, you can take it to a computer repair shop and they can usually re solder the parts back onto the board, you will see this box behind the headlight and wiper switches , get in there and take it off the metal dash bracket and just use zip ties and hang it loosely from something under there out of the way ,hope this helps some of you guys out,
WHY would this adjustment nut need tightened a full inch? Do these cables work fine for 30 years and then stretch one inch suddenly? or do I have problems with the brake HANDLE (under the dash) and must adjust it there?
We just got a 03 tracker in here at the shop and we replaced shoes ran adjusters all the way in and just barely got our drums on . The driver side drum is holding back and all we have left is the cable but you're absolutely right my friend you rarely need to mess with your ebrake cable but this is one of those rare gifts we've been given 😒
There is only 1 cable going to the parking brake pedal, and a separate cable for the brake release in my '97 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Edition.I don't see an of what's show on this video.
My line broke off I have 2 lines going to the rear I need to know which way to pull the metal inside to release do I pull towards cabin or push towards rear tires
It can be done either with the brake on or off but it's much easier with the parking brake disengaged. The main thing, like he said, is don't get it too tight. If you do your brakes will be engaged all the time you are driving. I advise to chock your wheels and put the vehicle in park or 1st gear if it's a standard transmission. Be sure that you don't adjust the cables too tight. You should have a little slack in the wires going to the brakes. Your parking brake pedal should have a little travel before the brake starts to engage but shouldn't go to the floor. If it's going to the floor and not keeping the vehicle from moving, you need to adjust it tighter. If the pedal only goes down a little when you engage the brake completely it's adjusted too tight. If you have it adjusted as far as possible and it still doesn't keep the vehicle from moving, you will have to replace the cables. Remember, ALWAYS, SAFETY FIRST! If you have to jack up the vehicle to get under it, wheels chocked, support the vehicle and it's a good idea to have someone with you, just in case it falls. NEVER jack a vehicle up on a hill, get it on as flat surface as possible. Hope this clears it up for you. Ideally there should be a little space before it engages the brake and when fully engaged it should not be on the floorboard and the vehicle shouldn't roll.
Thank you. Short and sweet and good information.
Thanks this helped me adjust mine and now they're working great!

Good job sir! Short and sweet.
I was looking for this video too.
U didnt show where the lines are on the truck.
Im sure i can find it. But it would have been nice to show the location.
Lmao it is directly under the drivers side most vehicles are. Slightly to the right.
No no no. Adjust your brake shoes first. Make sure you don't need new brake shoes. I was a Ford tech for 15 years. Rarely had to adjust cables

Hi do you adjust the brake when it’s in an on or off position ?👍
