@ 3:00 I paused video and went outside to my 2006 F150. Had everything off in 2 minutes. It appears that the harness in back hits the plastic dash area. It could be attrition over time with heat and warping. I pushed on the harness and the light went off. I put the top piece back on and the light went back on. You have to push a little hard to keep a little distance between the harness and dash. Light is now off and working accordingly. Thank you!!
Andrew, you’re a life saver dude. Your fix worked for me. I just purchased a used 2007 F-150 and the red brake light wouldn’t shut off. And I even failed my NH vehicle inspection. Well I went home and it worked. You saved me $250.00
Always happy to help Joseph!
I have an '06 exact same problem. Asked God to handle this and a little time and your video pops up.
Good ideas & good people is what its all about TY
Sometimes God just knows exactly what we need! Haha always happy to help
After years of stressing about this light for inspection I finally got rid of it! Thank you so much for the video! Keep up the great work! Thank you!
Ahh it’s been three years and finally turned that light off, thank you!
You’re welcome Marissa!
Did it ding incessantly too?
Awesome my friend! I didn't pass my inspection earlier today and with your video, this was a simple 5 minute fix and I have the inspection complete now. Thank you so much!
Wow. What an EXCELLENT and quick video as a fix. I googled my brake light problem and found so many other complicated solutions. THIS ONE WORKED on my 2007 F150 STX. I've not put it back together as of yet (won't take long but just had to come inside the house to post this !) but ,after I took the plastic panels of, as soon as I moved the connection on the left side of the dash, the brake light went out ! It's been on for 3 years. Others have said they'd stuffed in some kind of material. For me, I notice when I push the connector forward towards the windshield, the light goes out so I'll stuff something in between the connector to keep it more secure. Best video I've seen in a long time. THANKS !!
Thanks Victor! I made this video as I was very frustrated by the lack of quality instructions on how to fix this common issues with our trucks. Hopefully it can help other people as well!
Well done Andrew! This is the kind of video I can really appreciate. Been having issues with getting my truck inspected every year because of this. Now that I know how to temporarily bypass the situation, I can get it inspected on time instead of praying the light will go off for one day, ha! Thanks so much
Thank you very much! Glad it was helpful
Andrew, my wife and I used your method on our 2007 Ford F-150. It worked like a charm! Thank you!
I'm so glad to hear it helped you out :) thanks for the support!
Wow, I have no clue how much time you saved me trying to figure this out. This was my issue. I had to remove the cover a few times before I got it to go back together without the light turning back on, but it's off. Thank you I appreciate the advice.
Thank you so much. I just got my first truck after 35 years and it’s the exact same truck. I had the same exact issue on my truck but not no more thanks to u!!! Thanks a lot!
Thank you so much. I’ve seen videos about repairing shorts in the harness and adjusting the switch on the brake pedal. This is the only thing that actually worked.
Broooooo you’re the GOAT.. this has been a headache for myself and my mechanic
Happy to help!
@@AndrewDoesLifeSo what happens when you tighten the dash back together? does the light come back on? thanks.
This worked for my 2005 F150 EXT...thank you. It drove me crazy. Changed E-brake switch & brake fluid level switch with no change...I was skeptical but tried figuring what have I got to lose? Well, it worked.
Update: 2 days later the light came back on so I removed the cluster, took it apart(marked the position of the guages before removing them)and soldered the resister(182?). Been over a month and it's been fine.
Great to hear!
This worked, however, it was only temporary. I removed the cluster and made a permanent repair...soldering the 821 resistor as described in another RUclips video
I do not have the soldering skills or else I would’ve made another video showing how to permanently solve this issue haha you should make one though to help other people!
@@christopherszatny9926 did you resolder a resistor, replace a resistor or add a resistor?
Thank you, I'm due for an inspection and couldn't figure out why the light wouldn't go off. This was a simple fix that I am very happy I found. Thanks again. Frank
Happy to help, Frank!
Thanks so much! I have the light on for few years and you just save me a lot of money!!! Great video.
Happy to help!
Thank you so much. After a year of an annoying light I made the fix! I used a piece of foam pipe insulation and wedged the harness still. That took care of it.
Happy to help Chris!
Great video and great tip. I came across your video after replacing brake light switch and brake fluid sensor. Your trick took care of my problem. Thank you my friend.
Glad it helped Robert!
Thanks alot man, i been battling this issue in my 2006 f150 too for about a year now. Gonna check it out
I'm so excited I saw this. I'm doing this tomorrow! I replaced my brake switch interruptor immediately but it didn't fix it, so I'm definitely trying this!
Hopefully it fixes your issue Paul!
I have a f150 2008 and this video fixed the issue, thank you!
I was skeptical at first but thought, what the heck.....This worked great on my 2007 f150! When I pushed the circuit board and connection just a fraction of an inch toward the front of the truck the light went off. When I let it go it came back on. So I wedged a small piece of folded cardboard between the frame and connector to keep it pushed slightly forward, closed it up and my brake light is functioning properly! Thanks for the easy tip and thanks to the guy on the f150 forum!!👍👍
Was a temporary solution or is fixed completely?
Thanks to your video I had the same problem with my Ford F150 2007. Thank you again.
Dude, thank you. This was insane. Without this video, I would hunt this forever. I added plastic spacer to push the cluster connector forward, away from motherboard. The connector seems to create the problem. Thanks thanks thanks, you are my hero
Glad it helped! :)
i just bought a 2007 and i thought i was going to spend lots of dollars taking to the mechanic, but i will try this to see if the light will go off, Thanx man ! you probably save me some money!!
Good luck Javier! Hopefully this works for you
Am gonna try this on my 2006 f 150, that light has been on for the last 3 years, am almost use to it. Thanks for the video.
Good luck!
After watching ur video i just slapped that part and its gone . Thanks man great short to the point video .
Haha that's awesome! Glad it worked out for ya
Totally worked on my truck. Thank you!!!
Thanks man this was very helpful, now I can get my truck inspection and registration renewed.
Glad it helped
Thank you for making this video it really helps, I was going have the (E brake) switch replaced and then I saw your video.. the problem fix no more light on my dashboard, Cheers mate.
No problem! Hopefully the light stays off haha
Thank you for the video, it helped me fix the brake light on my 07 f150 👍
You’re welcome Raul! Happy to help
Thank you for this helpful video. This resolved my problem. I replaced the switch first, but did not solve it until I saw this instruction.
Happy to help! 🙏🏻
This still works and it’s a quick fix! Thank you!
Heck yeah Chad!! Glad it could help you out!
The problem is because the connector on the board has poor factory soldering on its pins. You should suck the solder off the pins with a solder sucker, preferably a HAKKO vacuum de-soldering tool then re-solder the pins using some good flux. It is a very common problem. If you can't do the job yourself then take the whole instrument cluster to one of your electronics gurus. There are plenty of videos on how to do the job. I've fixed two of them already. Same problem.
Perfect Andrew, thanks! I used a piece of cardboard to keep the capacitor pushed forward.
Finally a fix lol been driving for 4 years with the annoying light on 😂
Thanks man I have the same problem and needed it fixed before my inspection. It's so dumb its mainly the wires just wiggle and its as simple as this. Thanks again
Joe A no problem joe! Happy to help
After watching, I just knocked on the top of that cluster (without taking it off) & it went off! Thanks for sharing
Glad it helped! I would do that from time to time but I was afraid of cracking my plastic dashboard haha
Thanks! It worked.
QUESTION: Does anyone know what that plug is connected to the top dash plate? Mine was already disconnected when I pulled the top off...
I’m amazed. You were right and saved me a ton of time. Thank you
Happy to help jay!
Mines been on for so long I’ll have to give this a try thanks!
Hope it works out for ya!
Thank you so much!!! This was making me nuts. Resolved my issue in literally two minutes.
Happy to help! 😊👍🏻
Tried it took me 30 seconds 😂 it worked thanks bro🤙🏽
Gosh to hear it!
Andrew, keep up the great work!!!!
Thanks! Will do!
8 years w that light and tpms light on and finally failed a safety inspection.. Thankyou just tried it amazing!
Thank you!!!!!!! This was a huge help! I know it is not a permanent solution, but let's see how long that will stay off for
No problem Ryan! Happy to help
2022 and you helped me!! Thank you!!
Thanks was finally able to get that light out.
You’re welcome! Such a simple fix but also such a weird one !
I have the same problem with my 2006 ford f-150. thanks for sharing this video.
No problem Roy!
Thanks so much. I’m going to try it out. Almost bought a new cluster gauge 😮
Update, I finally did what you said to fix the light, I ended up using zip ties to hold the plug back towards the windshield and it stayed off, thanks for the fix..
Glad I could help Jim!
I will check that !..muchas gracias amigo!
Wow lol
But your absolutely right.
Idk why but the wiring inside and under the dash definitely have some issues that have some funny but strange remedies like you just showed.
I have a 2007 f150 and my driver side turn light blinker on the tail light went out and I spent a little over a hundred in buying new parts like the bulb socket, fuse, relay, multi meter and still nothing worked. I tried dozen of things and still nothing. I followed the tail light relay line from the back to the front and I still didn't find the problem. So one day I was just randomly just cleaning my truck and I noticed that this one wire that usually hangs about 2-3 inches down from under the dash was falling out again and I grabbed it and stuck it back up to where it will stay and it did. And later on that day as I was driving I noticed my blinker was working again. And I was just in total disbelief and kind of concluded that it was just the wiring and so flawed
Now seeing this video really solidified my theory
Thanks
Very helpful I just tapped the area without taking down dashboard and worked
That's best case scenario haha! Good stuff
Thanks for sharing
Would it help pass inspection though??
Black Rocket just started doing this. I’ve been meaning to check the ebrake pedal in case of a sticking switch but maybe this is the answer thanks.
Holy shit this fixed the brake and airbag light
Heck yeah!!!!!!!
Great video. Thanks for your help
My pleasure!
Wonder if this is applicable on an '07 E-350? Having intermittent brake/engine lights and gauges randomly dropping.
Hey I did this it worked perfict easy fix ten minutes done mine had been off for two years which was no real problem as long as you make sure brake not on before you leave . I rarely ever set mine so there was no problem I was just about to put electrical tape on it !
Glad to hear it Larry!
Thanks man, worked like a charm!
Happy to help Aoki! 🙏🏻
You are the MAN....Thank-you. Actually after I put everything back the light came on again. However after I took everything apart and pushed forward the wire cluster the light went off immediately. I am going to try and wedge something between to see if it will now stay off after I put everything back.
Thanks so much brother. Just replaced the switch and the light still comes on intermittently even though I know the switch is pushed all the way in. My guess is that connector contacts are very tiny and the slightest irregularity causes the light to come one. Great piece of information to share.
Yeah the solder job on these things from factory always fails after some time unfortunately. Luckily there are some easy(ish) fixes for it! Happy to help brother man
Just clicked the thumbs up to make it an even 300 :) have an 07 the brake light just started to go on and off while driving,,be on for a while then goes off,,then later down the road back on again etc
Thanks for making it an even 300 Jim! I appreciate ya
just tried it and it works awesome
Heck yeah! 🙏🏻
Thanks a bunch! This fixed my issue 👌
You’re welcome Tyler! 👍🏻
I'm working on a 2006 f150. It had code for rear speed sensor, so I replaced it and connector. Code went away but light stayed. I watched your video, followed your instructions, light went out but came back on, I added a folded piece of cardboard between connector and rear of cluster. Ok for now. I believe is an issue with the cluster, I don't often try to check electronic devices, just replace. Thanks for your info hope mine helps.
It works thankfully for your video 🎉😅😁
Happy to help! 😊👍🏻🙏🏻
Thank u I just bought a 07 and I was worried this exact same thing because otherwise I have a great running truck.
The problem is a loose or broken solder in your instrument cluster. The only fix is that you’re going to have to take it out and solder it or the brake light is gonna come right back on again when you hit a bump in the road.
Can you make or send a vid link on how to fix this? I just bought a truck and have the same issue
I know this is really late, but same. The fact that the light is on all the time has caused me to forget I've engaged the parking brake, and wore out the shoes XD
Thanks bro very helpful
Glad it helped Alexander!
What did you do besides take the dash cover off?
Man, thanks. Had that light on for 11 years and this year they fail it on the safety inspection.
Ur the best! Never thought that that is the actual problem of the fkin brake:D Thank you mate
Happy to help!!
Do you have a 2006 5.4 triton? And do you have problems with the truck bogging
Hi Jordan, yes I do have the 06 5.4 triton. When you say bogging, are you talking about the truck not accelerating when you give it gas?
Been admiring all the work and love you have been putting into your F-150 lately. I just wanted to recommend a channel, FordTechMakuloco, he has an entire series on mechanical upgrades and issues with the 2004-2008 F-150’s and 5.4L Triton engines. Off the top, I would look into new phasers and oil pump. I personally have a 2004 FX4 Supercab and had to replace the engine after the timing went out and put metal from the front cover into the engine. 5k later, I have a new and better engine with those upgrades and more, but it cost a lot of money, even with free labor, and a lot of headache. Just thought I would mention it, hopefully your luck continues and keep up the great work and videos!
Thank you Shey! I love FordTechMakuloco! Been a huge fan of his channel since I got my truck years ago, without a doubt the most knowledgeable guy when it comes to these trucks and their engines. If you don't mind me asking, how much was the labor for installing a new oil pump?
Andrew Does Life FordTech was definitely a life saver for me, awesome channel I agree. As for the pump labor, I am not sure. The company I ordered my reman engine from actually updates the motors and the higher volume oil pump is one of those upgrades. I know FordTech has a step by step video on replacing it, but not sure how comfortable you would be doing something like that yourself. Wish I could be more help!
Oh well that is pretty neat that the company makes the already upgraded engines for you. My main issue with replacing the pump myself would be that I am extremely limited when it comes to space where I live so more than likely if I had that done it would have to be through an auto mechanic with his own shop. I do happen to have a very good one that I'd go to and probably will be going to when its time to upgrade the oil pump though.
Andrew Does Life a good mechanic makes good peace of mind as well. After watching your videos and FordTechs, I am sure you would be able to do it, but the right space makes all the difference. I would just recommend the pump and phasers as soon as possible. I bought my truck from the original owner @ 111k miles. It had records of service and maintenance from a dealership shop, every 5k miles. That was actually the reason I bought such an old truck with so many miles on it. Even with that maintenance schedule, the front cover had signs of burnt oil all over when I was swapping out engines. The stock pumps just aren’t enough and it will catch up sooner or later. I now have a 5.4L the way it was meant to be and so many plans over the next couple years for my truck. Hope to send some pics and info your way for a future Truck Tuesday. All the best and keep up the great work.
You are a fk'n rockstar with the messaging in this video. Saved me a ton of troubleshooting.
Happy to help Brian! Thanks for supporting the channel 🙏🏻
Great vid
Thank you gucci!
Just did this today and applied a small shim and it worked perfectly...10 mins!
Love to hear it!! 👍🏻
It works....Thanks
No problem
I try that already and the light still on what to do now thanks
it works 🎉 thanks 😊
No problem! Happy to help :)
I know this is old, but I've heard that pulling those wire connectors off from behind the instrument cluster and cleaning them also fixes the interior and exterior cargo and parkins lights. I've got to do that with my 05 f-150.
Thanks for the video, was really well done and clear. And no background music, THANK YOU! unfortunately this did not solve my issue. I even completely disengaged that harness that you rocked and it never turned off. Must have something else wrong with mine.
Sorry about that! Hopefully you're able to figure it out
@@AndrewDoesLife oh nothing to apologize for. The instructions on removing the cluster helped me fix the transmission indicator which has been missing for 4 years, since i bought it. So I at least figured out what happened to that and fixed it.
Well at least something positive came out of the situation!
@@AndrewDoesLife So, apparently more positive came out of it. I don't know if maybe this was an issue of both things were a problem, but i replaced the brake fluid level sensor. And then played with the harness and it actually worked. So i think i had a bad sensor, coupled with the wiring issue you pointed out. It seemed like the harness needed to be pushed towards the front of the car a bit. So i took a small postcard, folded it a few times and jammed it between the harness and plastic to keep it in pushed forward position. Super technical I konw, but that seems to be making the light behave. We'll see how long this will last, but at least that damn light is off after 3 years.
ruclips.net/video/RoIPWOYrL98/видео.html
If you're comfortable at soldering, this is the permanent fix.
I can't believe that actually worked!?!!
I have dealt with that light for 8 YEARS!
Happy to help my guy! That light was SO annoying
I have a f-150 2006 and the cruise control and horn is inop but when I lock my truck with the keyless the horn sounds and the fuse is good
I would get under the truck (on the front passenger side) and make sure the horn is correctly plugged in. Could have come undone over time
You're my hero
You're my hero!
Thanks man u save me
I got you bro 👊🏻
I have this but my ABS like light is also on. Both came on, same time
Another video showed solder on circuit board comes loose but pretty difficult getting to and almost easier replacing whole instrument panel but like buds thinking I'll wedge something into like foam rubber
I think I have seen that exact video you are referencing. I was not going to mess around and replace the entire thing so I found this little trick to use instead haha smart not harder!
Ditto I did the foam rubber thing but still cones on sometimes and will try and tinker some more sometime. Grateful for small wins at least and not taking whole thing apart lol
This is a 70-year lady who inherited a 2005 Ford F150 Styleside from her son. I've had the truck for about 8 months now. The parking brake light was an issue as the temp outside rose. When the summer got hotter the "Door open" warning light would come on and an alarm would sound, occasionally. Sometimes the regular brake light came on. The doors were not open, and both brakes worked fine. Now that the weather is hovering around 40 degrees, even the parking brake warning is not coming on. I'm glad inspection is due in February and not August! Just in case, I need to be prepared. So, if it needs to be fixed to pass inspection, what is the thing called that I would need to replace? And, can you buy them used? Are they on the lines of "plug and play" that an old lady can install, or more complicated? So, if heat is a factor, would lose soldering be the cause? I can do that! Thanks for recoding how to get the dash apart too! Many Thanks, and God Bless!
If you’re comfortable soldering, then yes it’s a pretty easy fix. Take that whole instrument cluster out, take it apart, make sure you mark the exact spot of the needles on your gauges- and then solder the connection on the motherboard. It’s in the upper left corner as you look at the motherboard.
It's going to come back on. There's a video of how to actually fix it but it's pretty complicated, seems easier to find a used cluster.
Yeah this fixed mine for a while but now it isn’t going off. Do you have a link for that video you are referring?
@@evanpaine5236 ruclips.net/video/RoIPWOYrL98/видео.html I ultimately had to take my son's truck to the shop because their was an issue with the computer and airbag control so they replaced the cluster in the process, but the video above is the one for the permanent fix
I guess its a problem with a surface mount resistor (cracked solder joint). Numbered 812 (upper left hand side. A used cluster may need that same repair. It seems common on 06 and 07 f150s. If someone is handy with a soldering iron. Just 2 tabs of solder on each side of the resistor, you should be good.
Ahh Haa sounds like you are seating a cable. Nice to the point video. Thanks!!
You bet!
@@AndrewDoesLife cool.
Yep. Mines been on for years. Gonna pull it apart tonight
Thank you so much for this :-)
By chance will that now stop the annoying beeping every couple minutes
Wow, I tried just shaking the instrumental panel and light went off. Thank you it helped a lot but might need to replace the instrumental panel.
Glad it helped! Hopefully it stays off!
Does the cruise control work?
Yes it does
So are you supposed to move the wires behind the cluster? What is it you're actually doing when you disassemble the dash around the guage cluster?
I am adjust the little gauge thing behind the cluster. Essentially what happens is a solder fail behind the cluster causes the wire gauge thing to come loss and move to the side which triggers the E brake light to turn on. By pushing it back in place and putting something in there maybe to hold it in place, it keep the E brake light from turning on when it is not supposed to
@@AndrewDoesLife
I see. Thanks for the explanation.
