      @@damiansockey3008 I’ve had to do some work on mine. Nothing major tho. Replaced most of the Fire/Fuel System (spark plugs, coils, injectors, fuel filter, fuel pump) around 237,000 miles. MAF, TPS, Battery, Starter, Alternator, all Idler Pulleys, Tensioner pulley, Fan clutch, O2 sensors around 255,000 miles. Suspension work (Upper Control arms, lower control arms, hub assemblies, brake calipers) done as well around 270K. So she’s had a ton of maintenance but so far it’s paid off!

    I have a 5.4. It’s been extremely reliable for me. One thing I constantly do is change the oil every 3-5k miles with good oil and filter. That’s key on every engine but especially the 5.4. You will avoid a lot of problems

    • @eventhorizon2218
      @eventhorizon2218 2 года назад +6

      You are absolutely right, and I do the same.
      I've always used a high quality synthetic oil, and high end filters.
      I purchased my 08 Lariat new, its has been so reliable.
      So many people look at the oil change intervals on the oil container or manual.
      Pull the dipstick, look at the oil color.
      Do the maintenance, and the truck will last.

      Let me tell you something you did not know young man you do have a very nice looking truck but that are system you got underneath the hood of that truck will eventually shorten the life of the vehicle think about what you're doing you're no longer getting fresh air from outside your recirculating all that hot air underneath your hood back into your air breather and what is one of the most important things to an engine they do not like heat so before you destroy the engine in that nice looking truck please remove that and put the stock air breather back on it I've seen no less than 20 of these trucks coming to my shopping identical air system that you have on there and it's a bad thing

    I've got a late 04 with 227k that runs g r e a t. My grandfather bought it in 05 and maintained it extremely well, later giving it to me when he stopped driving. The only problems it's ever had in its life is a bad driver window motor, bad o2 sensor, and the volume on the radio sometimes goes up a little when I try to turn it down. I know the engine is probably going to go sooner or later, it is what it is, I can admit the fault of the 3v 5.4. But it has always been a great truck. I'll have mine forever so if a motor, trans, or rear end gives up on me, I'll just throw a new one in.

    I worked at a scrap yard for the better part of a decade, we couldn't warranty these engines because of everyone being afraid of failure. I have owned my 5.4 3v for about 6 years now, sitting just shy of 200k, and I want to say these engines have gotten a bad rap. i regularly abuse my truck, but I also regularly maintain it and she hasn't let me down (knock on wood). These are great motors making great power with plenty of aftermarket support but still great out of the box, I stand among few as a believer in the 3 valve. The fact is they have a bad design that is easy to remedy, lock the phasers and update the spark plugs. If you own a 5.4 3v my advice is either lock out the cam phasers, or just know in the back of your mind you'll be replacing the engine at some point, like you said in the video "that could all change tomorrow" lol

    There’s one thing to know. If you drive one long enough, you’ll either get really good at working on it, or you’ll be walking everywhere you go. My 2008 with the 4.6 liter has 280k miles on it. Both modular engines had the spark plug issues and the plastic intake/coolant crossover tube issues, but aside from that the 4.6 is a good engine. Replacing an intake or having a blown out plug repaired is a lot cheaper than paying $50k to $70k for a new F150. I think the 3 valve 5.4s were the worst engines Ford ever made. They seem to be more prone to total failure than the 4.6.

    • @JayThompson25
      @JayThompson25  Год назад

      Ha I definitely agree with the first sentence all the way. I just pulled the transmission on mine first trans I have ever pulled so I haven’t been recording a video, but honestly, it’s a pretty straight forward process. They’re not terrible engines, but they most definitely could’ve been better. Maintenance is a huge factor in keeping these engines going. That’s not to say that it still wouldn’t have a failure.

The body is one of the best truck bodies ever and by far the best ford has ever made, and they are so customizable as long as you do it right (please dont add flairs without spacers on these trucks I keep seeing em around and it looks so bad), also the interior Is so comfortable, and finally my favourite thing the power. Iv drag raced people in my truck and have beat bmws, chargers, subarus, I even beat a raptor on the dirt because my truck was the last without traction control.

      I’d take the lower panel under the steering wheel off and see if you can see what might be causing it to hang up. It could be an issue with the release mechanism or it could be froze up

    2003-2004 5.3 were rated 295 hp and 330 torque and 2005-2006 310 hp 335 torque. The 2003-2005 6.0 345 hp and 380 torque so the horsepower was the same as the 5.3 but your torque was a bit higher but also the Silverado was lighter and reved more freely which is why the Silverado 5.3 is faster than the f150 by a bit.

    • @JayThompson25
      @JayThompson25  3 года назад +1

      For sure, the numbers on paper say one thing, however that particular 5.4 has actually beat two 5.3’s from a dig while on 35’s. Granted truck is well taken care of and tuned with a cold air, but however the 5.4’s make a decent torque down low and can move quite quickly if they’re taken care of

    • @curtisgore1611
      @curtisgore1611 3 года назад

      The 5.4 was built to be efficient for what the average truck owner needed. Ford shrunk the bore size and kept a long stroke. With the cam phasers it gets 90% torque at 2000rpms. Other makes need high rpms to reach 90%torque

    Regarding the instrument cluster, systems self test, that is only relevant on Lariat trims (was the King Ranch trim available then? The Platinum trim was a Lincoln then). However, all trim levels could do that since maybe the 12th gen.
    Everything else, I already knew (I don't use the keypad, because the dealer never told me what the previous owners combo was (2006 model, I bought on 2009 with 23k miles), and I don't want to remove the rear seat back to get the factory set code on the module behind the seat)
