I bought my 07 new and just rolled 81K miles. I dealt with the IWE for almost 11 years. Had it in 3 different ford dealerships when it was still under warranty at least 5 times and they could never figure out what was wrong, they replaced the solenoid with the upgraded cover and the vacuum lines. The "grinding noise" remained at times while driving. So last year i finally said i was going to fix it if it came down to replacing every component in the IWE system. I replaced the hubs, the check valves, and finally threw on another (now the 3rd) solenoid and it finally is fixed. After 11 years, cost me about $300. Your videos assisted with all the work ive done and ive learned alot about doing my own minor repairs. Thank You!

I didn't know this channel existed until my mom purchased a used 08 Expedition (long story short: asshole ran stop sign smacked into my mom's 04 Exped so hard it bent the frame.), I searched everywhere (100mi radius), for another Exped for my mom and found an 08 Expd with 153K miles and at that's all she could afford without going into payments. That was 4yrs ago I take care of my mom's Exped more like baby it as best as I can she's 80yrs old now and still drives like a commercial driver. It has 207K now and still drives solid, I change some things on it either OEM or better but when it comes to oil and transmission I'm strict in replacing them on schedule (except oil instead of 7,500 I change it at 5,000). I still can't fathom how Ford wants to save some pennies by not putting a dipstick for the transmission. Thanks for this great video and another listings what to look for for my mom's truck. God Bless you & to your family.

    I must say -
You can either scare the shit out of someone buying these trucks.
    OR
Make someone feel better about buying one.
I've been turning wrenches for 35 yrs. Mostly Chevy - then everything when I worked in a shop. That being said - I have not worked on anything newer than a 2000 model. So most of the fuel injection & computer stuff was still pretty crappy at that time. The big boys were still figuring it out. Now I just work on & build engines for vintage Air-cooled VW's & my own vehicles.
I was doing research as I was looking to buy an F-150. I had found 3 local trucks.
    2006 - 2007 & 2008 / I came upon one of your videos. I must add - you seem to really know your S**T !!!!

YUP! I have a plug that will not come out on my 99', 5.4!!! We're affraid to pull it because if it sheers, we're into pulling the head since there is no physical way to get back there for a heal-a-coil! So, even with the better top end on the triton motor, the arrangement was designed by morons. Just so you know, we are over 560,000 miles on that motor and it's still running without burning more than 1/2 pt for 1,500 mi.s..... A tribute to Ford 4.6 and the original 5.4...... Then Ford decided to design the 5.4 for obsolescence. They did a fine job of that. Most the second generation 5.4's were pulled or top ends rebuilt as part of massive warranty issues. I will not buy a new truck until the 5.0 and ecoboost engines are proven. GM and Dodge are still building junk. What can a union guy do to find a decent rig these days? We are so screwed.

I will have to deal with many of these issues, but the truck I bought is still worth it. The guy selling it was short on details and had a great photographer to sell, but I'm happy I bought it. I have a 2006 f150 "heavy duty payload" 4x4. It's got 102k miles. Bought new and it's been pretty good overall. I bought a programmer which improved the performance and mpg both after fixing the intake restriction and putting a magna flow in place of the stock muffler.
The problem I have is these automakers deliberately designing things to fail. They lie on the window stickers about alternator ratings. They only put 110 amp alternator in my truck which is listed at 130amp on window sticker. Others have said same thing. Power steering lines rusting out is completely preventable with stainless lines. I fix my own stuff and I think only because I dont drive the f150 daily has it lasted this long without any major issues. When I asked the dealer about the sound, he said "all of these cars make that sound, it's nothing to worry about" (obviously, I got that in writing). A year later, I was driving up past Houghton Lake, MI and something broke- it didn't feel right, power steering was gone, the temp shot up, and I got all kinds of warning lights.
Turns out that one of the idler pulleys seized up and nearly disintegrated the serpentine belt. Moral of the story to everyone else is to get everything in writing and to watch videos or read articles on common failure points of particular vehicles before you buy them.

Mine was an early 2004. I fixed the third.brake light leak probably in the first year, the overdrive servo snap ring broke and turned overdrive into neutral, 1 rear axle seal went on me, a brake caliper stuck on me once, the 4.6 was the best engine that I ever had and the 4WD was flawless. Unstoppable in the snow. 200,000 miles on her and she is a daily driver up in Michigan now. My 2020 F150 with the 5.0 and hopefully “smart” 4WD has got some mighty big shoes to fill. Happy to subscribe.

This is one of the most comprehensive and thorough truck walk thru videos I’ve seen. Thank you very much.

Thanks Brian, that's very valuable information. I think I'll hand on to my '95 F150 with the 5.0 a little longer.

I would keep it until you can’t fix it anymore. The new eco-bull is way too complicated and expensive.

Those are highly sought after........hang on to it.........it's well worth a new motor and tranny if it's worn out........newer one's are not as good.......modular engine's are much harder to work on........

Put a mustang 5.0 in it if you want more power........or a supercharger........

Fantastic video. A lot of the issues I have dealt with on my 2005 with the exception of the rusting and corrosion issues and it being 4.6L with 327,000 miles. The only thing I could add are the multiple issues with electrical windows and such that turned out to be the wiring passing through the driver's side door jam to the door. Several power wires that just broke off inside the boot seal. Very hard to find and impossible to see. Not corrosion related.
