I respect your humble approach and the extra mile to find the source of the newly found issue and the clear justification you provide the customer. No wonder guys are shipping trucks across the country to your shop. From Canada, I just check every Ford issue I have here first. Most times, the symptoms, tools, parts list and fix are listed here. Huge Thank you for all of this incredible content.

That's absolutely amazing. You wouldn't believe all the things that I've learned just by getting on here.
If I didn't learn it from my grandfather I watched it on here.
I'm a man of many talents now and versatile as it gets.
Keep learning and growing together I wouldn't be half the man I am today had my grandparents not done the same with me as a young man.
God bless and prayers from

This video perfectly demonstrates how a GREAT tech also has to be a great detective.
Well done, as usual!
Brian, once again you've demonstrated how experience and the right tools can get a tough job resolved. Well done!
This was better than any TV show. Thank you for taking the time to make this.
Great video. The problem for the customer though is we have no idea who actually is a professional and knows what they are doing and who doesn't. As evidenced by watching you and other diagnostic guys on YT, a lot of these vehicles are coming from dealerships who you would think could fix these things and they don't. That is the frustrating part for customers. We usually spend all kinds of unnecessary money because someone doesn't know how to fix the vehicle correctly.
I would call you a ford master but no you went the extra mile and dissected every possible outcome and came out on top. You sir are a Ford Genius
Yes he certainly is a Genius!
Once you found the loose plugs , you knew WHO had their hands on it . Anything goes . ALL downhill from there . Great diagnosis and lesson .
My worst fears are someone working on a car that I own and hacking the job. Your videos help so much in getting the job done right. I always do my own work so I know the repair is good and will last. As I am getting older it's so hard to find good mechanics to help do the work with me or find a shop that you can trust or wants to do the work in the first place. Thanks for sharing your know-how with us. You made my life a lot easier many times.
Ive been watching this guy for a minute, and I must say he knows his stuff with these fords. He is a good narrator and has great content! Hey man keep up the good work!
You sharing your experience is a major component of why I watch your video's. Thanks so much!
Thanks for this video. I'm a mechanic too and I learned something here. You explain things well 👍
I love watching your videos, you are great explaing your procedures and actually showing the different programs and tests. Thanks for the great content and please keep them coming!
Trouble shooters are extremely hard to find! I like watching you!
I hate to go behind other mechanics that have caused more issues than it originally had. Good eye!!! I ask the owners if they have the old parts first thing and if they do I like to put them back before I troubleshoot. It almost makes you second guess yourself! Thanks!!!
Great catch Brian! That scan tool is a lifesaver. Those cats aren't cheap either.
And you have to purchase licenses from Ford to use that tool as well .
Wow, just really, truly enjoy watching your shows, and listening to how you explain this stuff, so clearly, and easily understandable
Thanks for your honesty! We are in a time where not only are the new vehicles almost impossible for a DIYer to diagnose we fall victim to the parts changer technicians!
Much appreciated!
Great video Brian. Although you're well aware, it's worth noting that when replacing these injectors, it's a good idea to confirm there aren't any o-rings stuck up in the rail itself that may have come off the old injectors. I replaced some on a 4.6, and although all the old injectors still had their top o-ring in tact, there was magically an "extra" one stuck in the rail, maybe from the time before? Who knows. Now I always look though. Quick glance with a mirror, since there's only so much you can lift that rail to peek under it. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.
@@ialmanza4 I understand what you're saying, but it became within the scope of the video as soon as he took the injectors off the rail.
First triton 2 valve I ever built I accidentally instaled two passenger side cams in the engine and then wondered why it wouldn't start. Luckily I swapped the cam and she fired right up no problem
I wasn't aware of the color band on the injectors.I always wondered why they had different colors. Learn something new everyday. Thank you for your knowledge of engine systems
Just wanted to thank you for spending the time making these videos, been watching you for awhile and have picked up many helpful tips. God Bless you and keep them coming 🙏
I love watching a true tech troubleshooter. Great job explaining also. Thanks Brian
Exactly!!! Too many just fire the parts cannon at it and change stuff that may or may not be needed.
another episode of automotive university excellence, thanks for sharing your experience with us, storing this stuff in our heads prepares us for the automotive problems we are going to face.
There are so many auto mechanics that need to take ethical and repair skill training from you…
thank you for going to such great lengths to help where other garage don't or can't .
Nice piece of detective work and knowing the proper tests to perform. Amazing engine operation turnaround for a very distraught patient. Hard to knock a professional for a successful outcome.
Intelligence, perseverance, experience, and detective work wins every time. Very well done Brian.
Love the content, keep up the honest, quality work. Always lookin forward to the next concern.
Nice catch! My first 3v timing job on my 06 explorer I put the one cam in 180 degrees wrong because I lined both sides up with L arrow on the sprocket, didn’t know there was an R because I thought the L was just a arrow not letter lmao.. nothing was hurt luckily
Wow, congrats on getting 10k views in 5 hours. Your videos help me a lot, thank you and keep going.👍
What can I say when you catch all the little ones, It all comes out big ones for you Way to go You
the man, I like it when someone can be trusted!!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, you're customers are lucky to have you repairing their vehicles Brian, another masterful job!
These videos you make and the knowledge you share is invaluable man and I for one appreciate it. Thank you
Thanks F-:Loco, You know, Ive been watching you for the last 7 years, and your shurely know your stuff.
I appreciate what you do for US. GBU!!!
Great troubleshooting skills! 👏💯 Those scanner diagnostic tests are really helpful
Injectors are not something to use off-brand junk. Never understood folks buying cheap fuel injectors. Some parts you can…not fuel injectors. Glad you found the fix. Good work as always!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hello Brian, I had a friend back in the Intel 486 - Pentium days who managed a computer store tell me that you just could not teach people troubleshooting. They either had the ability or they didn't.
I've always been very good at it but with the newer cars / trucks like you work on I'd probably be in a bit of trouble. My wife and I will both be 74 this year and have driven pretty low mileage low problem vehicles for years and I'm sorry to say that I've gotten behind the times. My two current cars are a 2015 Mustang GT with about 9,000 miles and a 2018 Focus ST with 11,000 on it and they both thank God run great.
Love your videos Brian!
George
Great diagnosis. I enjoyed the whole ride and learned something new today.
Great video, the way you explained the issue and tests was perfect. The issue of color codes on injectors make perfect sense, with the use of a scanner any good pro should make the correct DIAGNOSIS.I never deal with v8s but if i do ,you can bet I'll remember your lesson for looking at color when someone says they put {NEW} from the wrecker fuel injectors in ,and now they have issues ,haha good lesson ,thanks
It's not a problem making a mistake it's how you stick it out and resolve the issues. Niece work!
I've have learned so much from each and everyone of your videos.....this was an exceptionally good one 👍 ty
Great Video Brian! Yes those color rings should always match! Gotta love them Multiple Problem Vehicles (MPV's)!
I ran into a similar situation with wrong injectors when a Honda Accord came in with 2 cylinders misfiring shortly after coming out of a body shop back in the early 1990s. Checked spark plugs and spark was confirmed good. I then did a compression test that confirmed engine was still ok as all cylinders were close to specs. I ordered 2 from the Honda dealership and upon receiving them I notice the new injectors had a different color ring than the old ones did! Knowing that color corelates to the specific flow of an injector I called the dealer and they said what they sent was the proper flow rating and that I shouldn't worry about the color ring. After installing the 2 new Injectors the vehicle didn't idle smooth and idle now would hunt when cold! After going through everything else I could think of, I decided to order 2 more injectors from that same dealer but to my surprise these were yet another color and the dealer said they are all the same flow! Now yet again the idle was worse then before! Needless to say after all that wasted time I called back the dealer and told them to send me 4 more injectors and to quote "MAKE SURE THEY ALL HAD THE SAME COLOR RING" and I would send the others back to them! And that fixed the vehicle! Just a series of issues creating new problems that compounds the initial problem does challenge our diagnostic strategies. And from that day on I have always made sure that injector color rings all match and always recommend replacing it a complete matched set if flow rates can't be confirmed by onboard testing options. MPVs (Multiple Problem Vehicles) can be more challenging from time to time!
The hardest part is "finding someone who knows what they're doing"!
My 04 F150 had an 06 Expedition 5.4 swapped in and the injectors with it. Will be swapping out for the correct ones. Thanks for taking the time!
The way you walk us through the problems is gr8 .. I have learned a lot . Thx. You have the gift of teaching...thx again.
Them small details really go a long way. Thanks for the video.
Thanks! Would love to see a Forscan tutorial.
Great video Brian. Never know what you are going to get when other hands on parts cannon trigger. The pink injectors were for an 07 08 expedition. You know this, but not everyone else might....the injector flow test is only available on vehicles with fuel rail pressure sensors, like F150, but not Expeditions. I have done this test with an analog fuel pressure Guage and an injector pulse box recording pressure drop after pulsing for a preset time.
Never would have figured that a 5.4 3v expedition would have a different injector than a f150.
@@dunbarautomotive The fuel delivery system is different. F150 uses a fuel rail pressure sensor with variable speed fuel pump with driver module that likes to split open and fail. The expedition doesn't have a fuel rail pressure sensor and uses a fixed speed pump.
@@D2O2 Thank you for taking the time to explain that.
I just learned something. 😀
Awesome video! Learned a ton, your experience and understanding is impressive in diagnosing this!
Love your videos as a DIY mechanic. Factory parts are key. Cost more but always get what you pay for in the end! Keep it up!
i was thinking a clogged fuel rail on one side , nice catch on the pink bands , never would of looked for that, im just a weekend warrior mechanic on my own stuff . the computer program you use is really interesting . great vid , you really know the 3v fords
This should be required viewing by customers that don't want to pay diagnostic charges. The ones that say "don't ya just plug in a machine that tells you what's wrong with it"?
Definitely a good demonstration of having the right tools to diagnose a vehicle is important and you'll spend a ton of money just hitting it with your purse. Instead of just putting pride to the side and seeing a professional to get the proper fix
Great diagnosis Brian! I am waiting just waiting for somebody to bring you a Ford Ranger with the Perkins diesle in it to work on! Such a cool Ranger back then. Gutless, but really cool and the fuel milage they got was incredible for the year models:P
Timing jobs are so critical with a ton of parts that have to work in unison. I have no worries about your work as it is the best in this field.
Another happy customer. Sadly you had correct somebody else’s mistake and it took a week.
Excellent diag Brian thanks for sharing!
Always amazes me how an injector o ring can roll off the injector and stay in the rail lol, awesome job on the cool diagnosis sharing. What tool was that for the injector flow, thats a nice option to have.
Learn something new everyday, Thanks for the video!
wish i had a guy like you in my neighborhood... i'd never ask you "how much?", i'd just hand you the keys. love you bro
I have this same truck. Had misfire and timing issues. So I had a shop do timing job and locked out cam phasers to delete the variable timing. After tuning it runs amazing!!!
I thought I screwed up the timing job on the bosses 3.6 in his caddy last week after doing the chains. It was idling a bit rough, but nothing too bad considering it was figuring things out with the new chains. I hopped in and gave it a little snort once it warmed up. Immediately it began to shake like crazy, I thought it was going to fall off the hoist. Shut it off, scratched my head a bit wondering what I did wrong, then noticed I forgot to tighten the intake hose, it sucked it off the air filter housing so it was pulling air after the MAF. What a relief!
I did my 2006 thanks to you. Mellings 340 pump.
You really know your mechanic stuff. Really love watching your videos. Too bad I'm not in your area for vehicle repairs, I'm in Texas. Thanks for the great videos!
I’ve been learning a lot from you lately, thank you! Do you think the misfiring on that bank is what ultimately destroyed the catalytic converter on the driver side? I’ve read that unburned fuel will destroy the cat and set off a flashing MIL so you don’t keep driving. Thanks again, you’re awesome.
Great video. Thanks man 😊
It be nice to have a mechanic with your abilities would be a great help for everyone that are looking for someone they can trust
Excellent video once again! And please make the video on 2001 Expedition 5.4 2V with an engine code. Always want to see diagnose a problem and fix it right !
Nice. Experience and proper scan tools help but knowledge is key.
Different FT numbers bank to bank can be really interesting, forcing you to "ignore" everything shared by both. good thing you were able to eliminate timing so easily, only because it was the last thing touched. i know that feeling.
possibly the most helpful part of this is verifying fuel trims after the repair, seeing LT + and ST - on the bank is what we want to see.
Brings up the value of resetting learned trims, both to confirm the issue is still present, and to improve driveability for the owner after.
i repaired a vacuum leak, and the car ran worse, until it learned, Alpha 164, no reset without battery disconnect, so i didn't.
because i work on multiple makes, it's always the issue of how quickly the pcm writes to memory the new values under all driving conditions.
side note, also reminded me about getting the Ford baro value to update.
Nicely done, I learn something new every time.
As retired Ford Instructor in Denver and mechanic from Wichita, I enjoy watching someone that's got it.😃
Master Ford Tech! Nice job !!! Knowledge is Power !!
If you're doing it yourself, you could use the build date the VIN and the calibration code to order the right parts.
Then it wouldn't melt the Cat convertor.
"There's your big savings"
You could also consider the cause of the original concern not even being injectors.
Not a good part to throw in willy nilly.
Your video sure helps people understand why that is.
Nice presentation.
That sounds like a frustrating diag. Nice catch. I'm pretty sure I'd have missed that, I won't now. Thank you.
Great diag, Thanks!
Having a real top notch automotive technician is so important.
Great videos thanks
Fantastic diagnosis. Love the thought process.
You the man,I'm learning every time I watch your videos
Your the BEST ford engineer I've ever known. Keep up the awesome work!
Hey Brian, I’m late but I never want to miss any of your videos .peace n love bro💪🏿
Brian, you are absolutely the best!
Not only have I learned a lot about my Ford vehicles but your attention to the details, the quality of your work is inspiring!
Thanks
I mistimed my mom's Taurus by following the manual. Fixed it right by following RUclips. :P
Problem was the way Ford marked the chain and the way they described it was different from what I pictured in my head. I thought they had a single mark for each shaft, but they had a double mark for the crank. This put me 1 tooth off. I figured out the issue by pausing a video and counting links. Ford says 35 between, I would call it 35.5 links between.
Man I wish you lived near me, I just had a Ford technician replace everything on the front end. Didn’t even make it 10k and have to do phasers again. I’m having them locked out this time. I feel I could have bought another truck with all the money I’ve put into this thing. I like all the diagnostic work you do rather then just throwing parts at it. Great work
Thank you for all you do
Great job Brian you got to be a teacher at the university but they don’t gonna pay you what you earning and this job you have all the skills to be a teacher keep up all these great videos I am a 65 old man and I still learning a lot from you
I remember working with the IDS with problem vehicles. Extremely Helpful! I wish aftermarket diag tools had this power for Asian vehicles!
I'm saving this video as a very good step-by-step diagnostic test. I know it won't work all the time, but when it does, the answer comes quick!
Great video, thanks Brian!
@@coreybabcock2023 you can get a Chinese clone that works fairly well. I use it on my powerstrokes. Power balance is very useful
Good job. Yes to the professionals.
Awesome like usual, keep it up❤
Thanks for the video Brian well done 👍✅ All good. Take care of yourself and family and be Blessed ❤️❤️ it.
Awesome diagnostic as usual. Thanks!
Well done, and explained well. Thank You very much.
Nice fine... hopefully the owner asks you to do a deep inspection on that taped up wiring harness to that intake sensor. I'm sure they are going to be very pleased you pulled this one back from the brink of apparent destruction.
Great video! Always learn something. Have you ever thought of relocating to VA? Lol
Keep up the great work!
That's a cool test built into your scan tool.
Ive seen a tester that pulses the injector for a set time and you monitor the drop in fuel pressure.
The problem is that you have to set up a fuel pressure gauge and connect the pulse tool to each injector.
Time consuming to say the least. Old school I guess, lol
I got remand injectors. Ran great initially for the first couple days. A tiny misfire developed on One Bank. Fuel trims &everything looked great similar to this. I too did a timing job but before I tore into the engine I plugged in a scanner that I have that gives me a little bit of live data. Saw the number two cylinder had a misfire. Here one of the injectors was different. Well the Bosch injectors were dia& misfire one was a CIA. Everything would smooth out when it got warm. Replace the injector with the correct one and it was fine
I truly believe that those motors get such a bad wrap because of incorrect parts being used. It is so important to use Vin specific parts on those tritan motors.
Excellent video, I learned a bit!
