It's great to see James and Jeremy team up, again. I've followed the 'School of Wok' for a long time, and Jeremy knows what he's talking about. His teaching is excellent and it's great to see him getting the recognition he deserves.
This is MUCH BETTER than watching a normal cooking show where they just do everything. Getting an "everyman" like James and then quickly showing the expert at the end and comparing the result is very, very effective. Well done !
I never thought I’d learn anything from May cooking-wise. But this is one of the best informational videos I’ve ever seen. It’s also great seeing an old dog learn new tricks :)
only james may would go do a video for a promotion of his own cookbook, and then just be like "yeah, you know what... whatever i put in the book is wrong."
As a Taiwanese, I have seen lots of chef doing that wok cooking skills. But it all feels so complicated and hard almost like an arts work to master lol. Everything comes out of the wok just tasted delicious.
My wife is Thai, she cooks everything without fuss or problems, she just cooks. She was amused when I suggested buying a "wok", she asked me what it was, here's it's got a special name, it's a pan. 😀
Amazing how much fine point technique there is to stir fry. To the casual observer it looks "easy" but, like most things that take knowledge, practice, and sills it is most certainly not. Great video!
James May's new Foodtribe series idea, " my cooking recipes ripped apart by chefs so you all don't make the same mistakes I did when I assembled the book."
What you need to do with veg with wok is that you need to first do something called 走油 which literally means run it thru the oil so you get the moisture out, take them out before you put them back to wok with things like meat.
As a subscriber to Foodtribe and a fan of James, having watched him attempt this stirfry, I feel like I have in fact done this myself now and will never need to attempt it personally! ...Result!
James should do like I do and watch School Of Wok. He'll enjoy what he learns. :-) LOL. BTW, I learned about School Of Wok from this channel. THANKS!!!
I used a thin carbon steel wok for years, but then I got an induction hob 😮. High powered but couldn't use my round wok anymore. Got myself a Skottsberg carbon steel wadjan (fits my Indonesian/Scottish ancestry) but you cannot toss a wadjan 😢. Do you think it's possibly to use a flat bottom classic (thin and cheap) wok on an induction hob??
Encyclopedia’s used to publish a year book and a bunch of stickers you would paste onto encyclopedia articles referencing the year book page with updated info, he could do that.
I just bought a wok from the local charity shop courtesy of James and then discovered the apartment I'm moving into has induction hobs, and said wok won't work on them
Jeremy says veggies first, then meat. I'd think meat first so that the veggies would be less likely to become too soft or not hot enough at end. I'm trying to learn and this point would seem to be an important part of the process.
I don't get the logic of cleaning the wok at 9:35. It's all going to be cooked together anyway so it really doesn;t matter. If anything it will give the veg even more flavour because they are cooking in the meat marindade.
I think it's amazing how they all know how to use chopsticks, I spent the first 30 years of my life growing up in England and the past 20 here in America and I don't have a clue how to use chopsticks, and of all the hundreds of Asian restaurants and takeaways I've been too I've never even once been offered or had a chance to even try to use chopsticks, I wonder how people who have never been to a country that uses chopsticks learns that skill
@@thomasmccourt215 Cant even buy chopsticks to try at home, where I'm from in England they was at the time unavailable and where I currently live in America there unavailable And I'm not paying a bunch of money online to get a couple of sticks to eat with
@@bigdaddigaming You can buy packs of them on ebay for a couple of dollars. Also, it's just practice... just like using a knife and fork is, although you were too young to remember.
@@StockportJambo I'm british and often eat with chopsticks out of preference, especially rice. I dont even notice I'm doing it,except when I try to pick up a whole cherry tomato! Rice definitely tastes better with chopsticks. Daddi, once you get the hang of it you will wonder what the trouble was,and chopsticks can last years. I keep a short pair in my handbag for emergencies.
Love watching 'Isambard Kingdom May' & Jeremy Pang doing stuff in the School of Wok studio kitchen! Pity the sound quality has let you guys down in this one though... Would be a great video to see Jeremy in James's pub making a steak and kidney pie or something! :D Can't wait for the next video!
"How are you feeling?"
"As a person? Old. Slightly disappointed."
Classic.
Imagine how he'd feel if he wasn't a multimillionaire
@@BodywiseMustard Much the same I'd imagine, since he echoes the sentiment of many of us (myself included) who aren't multi-millionaires.
It's weird hearing James say the name Jeremy followed by a positive comment.
☺️☺️
indeed
I'm used to hearing James say Jeremy followed by is a Pillock lol
CLARKSON YOU INFENTILE PILLOCK
Even worse , hearing a "Jeremy" called "Master" !
Hes done a bit more work than usual, but I'm putting this down as another episode of James tricks someone into making his lunch
AbabahH
That should have it's own playlist
Which park bench did he spend the night on.?
James may has taught me that there is never a wrong time for a chip butty
Except after you've already just eaten 2 of them and feel like death
@@aquaticpears3183 u mean, feel unstoppable and want more chip butty
Much Better than Cat Food!!! 😎👍🍺
James may has taught me that I can let my hair air dry after a shower
Bad time for a chip butty? Yeah, at NOPE O'Clock.
I love the strong “old dad” vibes from James. I am in my 30s and a dad, and this man’s vibes is what I aspire to.
I think many of us here aspire to be just like James. I know I do. In every way. He’s a very class act, that’s for sure.
You'll never be an old dad if your a dad in your 30s mate
James may's when learning life hacks is the best thing.

Besides this being a very enjoyable collab, I actually learned a couple things. Thanks!
This is probably the best cooking video ever done. More working chefs need to show home cooks these foundational techniques! Thanks
I love you, James May.

I want to see James do more wok cooking! This was such a fun video!
Funny to see another Jeremy also using 'speed and power' to get things done :)
This is fascinating. I could watch James do tummy and head with a yummy dish in the wok for hours.
A little humility goes a long way Jeremy.
James May is a better chef than Gordon Ramsey don’t you know?
James should have told him, that he beat Gordon Ramsay in a cooking contest once.^^
Is that somehow difficult?
@@patagualianmostly7437 do you think you could beat Gordon Ramsay?
I could watch these two cooking for ages.
These two have amazing chemistry together. I absolutely love these videos. I hope you make more together!
Agreed! I'm usually nervous going in to collaborations, but these two are a lot of fun to watch
I concur. Greetings from down under 🍻
Must be strange talking to a Jeremy who actually knows what he's talking about.
I was going to say that James is learning from another Jeremy. :)
@@bodhi2932 Sometimes if you listen very carefully you can hear Jeremy's Genius over the droning of James May talking about Cheese.
Best of all, the first trick Jeremy taught him was how to use his cleaver as a hammer...
I find James May in the kitchen doing stuff thoroughly relaxing. This dish also looks like fun!

Thank you food tribe for introducing School of Wok ☺️
Very nice!
So with your pub you should also make a Parsnip Gin Barrel Aged Spruce Tip Dunkel to go along with this dish.
SPEED AND POWER for the cooking right there.
I’ll be waiting for ‘Uncle Roger Reacts’
