288 GTO build. The 328 and 288 GTO shared the same gauges so you already have actual 288 GTO parts already. Plus, a black 288 GTO is one of the best looking cars in the world.
Yeah, on board with that.
I think I found my soul mate. Rear 3/4 view of the 288 GTO is the image I see when I close my eyes every night. Haha. And that is a bargain for sure. You may as well just sell the parts, I feel it's got the most profit in it to spend on something else.
Better yet, why don't you just part it out and build a Pontiac Fiero F40! What the hell is wrong with you people?!
The GTO has a 10cm longer wheelbase than the 308/328.
Agreed
I would restore it, low mileage, and original will always be more desirable. Nice find.
When the base price of a project car is so low, and the basic car is in such relatively easily restorable condition, it makes the most sense to cash in on that opportunity and simply finish the car as a 328 and reap the profits. Which then can be applied to another project.
Scott, it depends what YOU want. Personally, I'd love to see it brought back in original form. You have such a good, low mileage base, and I know from your other projects, that when you complete it, it will looks absolutely mint. You could probably on sell it for a great price, and then put that into your next projects.
328 GTS restoration gets my vote. Keeping another classic on the road.
328 restoration gets my vote. Car looks very clean from the front bulkhead to the rear.
Same here! This one looks very clean, deserves a new lease in life !
I personally like the 328 and would like to see it restored to near original.
Naaaaawww
GTO conversion build would be out of this world. Sounds like the right job for Ratarossa🔥
Trouble is : will it be recognized / certified by Ferrari brand as a 288 - GTO or a massive lawsuit will come on Scott by Ferrari brand ?
@@poplaurentiu4148 Not if he makes his own custom emblems. It's a tribute car. Would not have to be 100% accurate to a real one..
@@RayBen555 What i was pointing out is not about the emblems is the fact that at one point the car was registered as a certain model but after modifications at least in Europe in order to run on public streets cars need to be registered and with a valid inspection (MoT), also have valid insurance.. So for such a modified Ferrari it will need first a re-homologation for all modifications in the car papers, then need to pass technical inspection, and have that thing insured otherwise at a quick stop traffic control check police will find all the differences and will instantly seize & confiscate the vehicle +apply hefty tax to the driver for illegal mods, and that is not all because once the law gets involved the main brand (Ferrari) also might ask thru lawsuit and require different legal payments + other pretentions.. so yeah is risky..
@@poplaurentiu4148 I don’t know anything about classic and restored car registration in the uk but I really don’t think police or safety inspectors will care one bit if the is restored to original or varying degrees of gto. They only care about safety, which means the usual mechanically and structurally sound, lights and indicators, and horn. The car will be registered as the car that it is specified in its existing paperwork, which correlates to the frame/chassis. Everything else can be whatever one chooses. And I think you’re making to much of this blown out of proportion Ferrari lawsuit stuff. I really doubt they will care unless he’s trying to fraudulently represent it as a real gto in a sale or making a really really big spectacle of it at a large car event or show.
@@poplaurentiu4148well in this case Ferrari won’t recognise as a true and genuine GTO, it’s more a way to enjoy building a similar one and enjoying of a “GTO” made with a lowest budget then buying a proper one
Every Ferrari deserves to be restored. What a great project.
That car looks like it should be kept original. If the engine can be rebuilt and the front end sorted out, BOOM! you have damn nice car on your hands.
Dude, if you keep playing Warships all day, you will never finish you projects!
LOL
It would be nice to see one project at a time with consistency.
Hahaha! He doesn’t play them just like all youtubers advertising games
boom boom !
LOL Nothing ever gets' finished or started, he is either playing warships of shavings his cobblers!
The 288 GTO build would require stretching the wheelbase aft of the doors, but I definitely think it’d be a very cool thing to do!
Since the lid isn't the original one, in conjunction with all the transfer case/clutch housing damage, I think the flywheel took a "flight"! I mean, looks really consistent with a flywheel disconnecting from the crankshaft and wreaking things. Just a guess, but the only time I saw flywheel damage, it looked pretty similar.
Was thinking the same thing. Also locking up the rear end which probably caused loss of control and crashed the front end. Seems plausible.
110% agreed! Even the angle it jettison is consistent with the rotation of the flywheel itself in conjunction to the crank.
And maybe Thats why the lid was change
That must have been one scary ride.
Worth saving this one scott , would love to see it restored back to original and your the man to do it
Revive & flip enough Ferrari’s to buy a real F40 😎
F40 Real ..... 100%
@@Ratarossa LS Swap LOL they have been swapped into everything but my Ex-Wife...
@@peterschancel7223
There is a reply there about it being the only thing that hasn't but I'll refrain!
Exactly. I can’t stand replicas. Just save your money and buy a real one. There’s plenty of them going up in flames so buy an F40 to restore. Keep buying, fixing, and flipping till you get an F40 to fix up and drive.
@@Lamster66 A cheeky response would be ... She preferred Electric Battery Power ..Or Privateers..
20:52 This may not be a popular opinion - But I would love to see a video breaking the car down for parts and an analysis of just how profitable it can be!
I hate to see it, but that is probably the smart and most economical thing to do.
It's got to be a 288 GTO tribute all day long !😊👍
Before the arrival of the F40 this was the poster on the wall car in the 80's for many!
How amazing would it be to be able to drive a 288 GTO tribute as a daily ♥️
You have to build it at some point .. if not this one !
Love your channel
👍👍👍
I can certainly see the fun in creating a unique 288 GTS, much like the Challenge Stradale Spider.
You unlocked a childhood memory for me when you showed the 288 GTO reference images. I had a Majorette 288 GTO die-cast car as a kid that I loved. I didn't know what it was, what Ferrari was, but I loved that car. I'm from the USA for reference so Ferrari isn't as common here, especially in the country areas. So I'm all in for you recreating a 288! Google the Majorette if you're curious what I had. Mine was red with gold 23 on it. I don't remember if mine was the all red or white on the bottom, but I believe it's full red. There's pictures for both online Rata!
Lovely story mate ... I will google it
@@Ratarossa Bburago (much like your model) also had some very cool and superbly detailed diecast miniatures
of Ferrari toys in different sizes 1/18, 1/28, or even larger scale..
The 288 GTO replica would be the default instinct but realistically it would be too much work and the bones of a potentially nice 328 are already there. I personally would think doing up the car as a nice 328 project for the channel(not many 328 projects ever done on RUclips as it stands), driving it for a while and then selling for a profit would make the most sense.
If it has a salvage title it's never going to be worth what a clean title low mileage 328 is fully restored. I say go for the 288 tribute! Would love to see that engine run as well!
this is a very good point
That is in remarkable condition and yes it's worth having a good look at
I was simply going to break it for parts until I saw how good condition it is
Don’t ask us as we are along for the ride. So whatever you do we are gonna still enjoy the show.
A 288 tribute would blow your channel up into the bigtime! Do it!
That’s got to be worth saving Scott! Buzzing for the F40 build👌🏻👍🏻
Scott the price you paid for that 328 makes that car a gift!!! You scored big time!!!
I love the interior. From the drivers seat view, you can really imagine sending it. More power would be awesome too. I would go for option 1 if you want a bit of filler content or option 3 to spend on other projecs
I really enjoy your channel and all the Ferrari projects. There is no other like it!
I am loving the idea of the 288 GTO tribute!
Hi Scott. It was great to see you on Samcrac's channel fixing his Burnt Ferrari. You were Wicked, he never would have done it without you. God this 328 GTS looks very nice. That engine had a Good Bang against something hard. Falling off a Crane sounds perfect Scott. You have to try and fix this Car. It's what you do lol. This Ferrari seems to be very very clean, low mileage, Jesus I don't want to be you Scott for awhile, I havnt a clue what I would do, knowing you I think you would probably Save another Ferrari from the Scrap yard lol. Still choices to be made. Good luck with that bro 😅😅 🇨🇮🇨🇮
Too nice to break, big decision to be made, I would restore but the 288 route would be very tempting!!
Hi Scott, I love the 288. But as you said you could spend the money on your F40 project. I take it you got the 328 for the chassis for the F40. You could then double the cash on parts. I think that's the best idea. But if you did decide to rebuild the 328 into the 288. At least it would give you more content for the channel. What ever you do it will be a fantastic project. Kind Regards Bob Rose Northampton.
Cheers Bob appreciate your thoughts on this
I think a 288 tribute would be an interesting project but to do it justice you would need to mount the engine longitudinally and of course add twin turbos, that’s a lot of engineering. Otherwise it would be just a 288 lookalike and I don’t think that’s your style. Good luck with whatever you decide.
The flywheels either let go or become disconnected from the crank, you can see the clutch pressure plate has also been ripped from the flywheel, when they let go its utter devastation, iv’e got the faintest off scars on my ankle from this, i consider myself pretty lucky to still have my feet attached considering the rest of the damage it caused. Should make for a good project but what damage has been caused to the crank and bearings. Good luck as always.
Definetly the 288 GTO ! And as much as a black delivery would screem character, I think a GTO Badass RestoMod with a wrap in some modern mat color (Bentley Opalite or Jetstream II, Merk Verde Silver...) would really stand out !! Add a very light yellow mirorish tint to windows, mat black air intakes, a slightly raised back suspension to add diffusers... Just have fun and make an outstanding "Badass Rattarossa Signature" exclusive built 😃It would be a treat to follow you on that kind of project !
I think it comes down to how easy the missing parts are to source and how expensive they are. If you can find them for a somewhat reasonable price then definitely restore, otherwise go back to the plan to be use the chassis for the F40 project. Given the good condition of a lot of what you do have, you can probably recoup your money.
As a teen of the 80's, any of the cool cars from the 512BBi/400/308/328/Testarossa/Mondial, M3/M5/M6, MB 560 SEC (AMG especially), Countach/Jalpa/LM002 and a few others all should be brought back from the brink if they are found abandoned, junked, reparable wrecked.
The 308/328 is such a timeless design of what was the modern Ferrari, and it is sad whenever I see one that isn't well kept, but I am glad there are people like you that will take the time to make them beautiful again.
288 GTO tribute done really nicely would be amazing.
Go go go!!!! Love my ‘89 328. This channel is a gift for anything Ferrari. Thank you. Engine was dropped and it’s not a euro! The Sherlock Holmes of Ferrari!! Part it out!
That damage to the gearbox was clearly caused by a clutch pressure plate failure. You can see the mounting points are ripped away around the outside of the pressure plate. Definitely not caused by being dropped.
Only a true Ferrari romantic with your experience would see the resto potential. Tough decision. 👍
Oh my word Scott, when I first saw the backend and the interior I was screaming at the TV, save it save it please save it until you mentioned the 288 GTO semi replica, it was then when I understood your unique logic and I think that would be wonderful
Dude, yes. Ham it up, make it a fun daily tribute. Big power, big noise, big pantomime, use it all the time without worrying about an idiot in a minivan hitting you and ruining a multi-million dollar car. Take it on a road trip down to Monaco with Matt Armstrong when you are done with it and have a blast with it.
Not like it will turn out any worse than it already is.
I like your restore videos & this looks like a good start
You can hit the power window motor with 12 volts if you want to seal the cabin until you score the missing switch, but you knew that already.
Ask a.i. to copy the metal needed to replicate the front frame, then box it all in accordingly with your meshes from the new Revopoint Miraco 3d scanner, accurate to a mere smidgen of a morsel of a millimeter.
I just bought one of those.
Wotcha Scott. Use the chassis for your F40LM build, always chase your dreams. If you do go down the 288GTO route you need the conversion kit from CASCU in Norfolk, Mark is the best fibreglasser I have ever seen.
What a beautiful machine, I hope you are able to save it! I eagerly wll follow your progress.
Restore it! Rob and Chris at Salvage rebuilds would have that fixed in an afternoon.
Definitely do it! 288 GTO rep would be awesome! Would be the first GTO Targa if you keep the roof!! 😁👍👍
A 288 would be sweet, I love the 288, the evolution and the F40. But I would rather see you get going with the F40,💪🏻💥
Yes GTO build and an F40 build yes dude 2 of the best ferrari's in my opinion do both
Agreed two of the best there !
YES 288 GTO build! I'm a Ferrari purist and I STILL think this car would be rebuilt best as a 288 GTO Tribute! Keep the Targa to make it special and different. Just don't do something silly like replace the engine with a Honda, rotary, or electric. Modify that 328 engine into a twin turbo beast. If you properly rebuild the rear into a 288 shape - you'll have plenty of room. Love the content - keep it coming!
Id say something went bang in the clutch area.
My favourite Ferrari has always been the 288 and it would be really cool to see what you could do to make a tribute car from that 328. The sensible thing to do would be to part it and put that money into another project, but as a fan of the channel I want to see the tribute car. 😉
Im a bit conflicted on restoring a 328 or make a 288GTO. Im leaning towards the 288GTO tribute, I think that would be cooler (its not like your sacrificing a complete and working 328)!
Exactly my thoughts
Restore it back to stock.......the engine work required and the front end work would be great to follow.
GTO build defo. I still have the toy car model of the GTO in black from when I was a boy, great looking car but unobtainable for most. I also kept the F40 in red too :)
A GTO replica/tribute is the best option - you are repairing a damaged Ferrari & putting it back on the road, but making it your own and something that you aspire to. It's the only way forward!!!
My dad had one of these for a few years when I was a kid. Before selling it on for 996 turbo. Wasn’t the fastest thing in the world. But he put a Larrini exhaust on it. And it sounded glorious
I had always wondered why I had not seem more 288GTO replicas. There is an awesome Petrolicius Morning Coffee video of David Lee's 288GTO blasting round some awsome roads👍🏽
Its not straight forward as to do it correctly you have to lengthen the rear chassis
Scott, great find ! I have 328 motherboard as the F40 motherboard for this fuse board in case. You just need to find the black housing of it ! Guido
Thanks buddy ... i will need both boards from you very soon
The wheelbase on a 348 is the same as the F40 and 288 GTO. 328 is different. Starting with the 348 frame and using the 328 components is probably your best choice
Absolutely without a doubt 288 build, that would be awesome to see. You got a bargain there for a spanner time. Is this the new workshop?! All the best👍💪
I see you were spotted driving around Portugal in your Ratarossa 😎 enjoy!
The 288 GTO project sounds like an awesome idea.
However if it’s going to financially affect your other projects I would either restore it (or at least get it to the point that it runs) or just sell it as is
Agreed...288 GTO build...would love to see it mate 😊
Love the idea of a 288 conversion (one of the best looking cars ever imho) but I would beware of stretching myself too thin, with too much going on at once. F40 on the way? Maybe do the 288 idea after that one?
ABSOLUTELY do a 288 conversion I love the GTO. There should be more conversion kits on the market. I’d love to see you done so I can know if I can do it to. Been thinking about it for years.
Great video as always, thanks
288 GTO tribute would be awesome!
Careful when you get the battery plugged in. The lighter will heat up and can possible eject when it pops up.
Yes i instantly regretted pushing it down
It’s even still wearing its period Goodyear “gatorback” tyres. Incredible!
Simple answer Scott, get the 328 GTS back on the road 👍
As much as I love the 288 myself, if you go that way I reckon all people will see is a car that's neither a 288 nor the 328 it's based on, so given the extra work might be far less profitable. Restoring as a 328 makes a lot more sense money wise. But a 288 conversion better to watch 😬 and breaking this then the F40LM an even better series 😎
Up to you of course!
I love the 328 design. Such an iconic 80's car.
Definitely a 288 GTO tribute Scott. That would be epic and very interesting for us all to watch to see how you achieve it
F40 needs to be prioritized Scott. Everyone in the world watching is waiting. 288gto is my all time favorite Ferrari so that would be by 2nd choice. Part out would be third and finally just rebuilding it back to stock would be last. I wouldn’t sell it as is. I’d rather hold onto it for later after the f40 if that’s possible
288GTO build would be really something. Happy to watch either way.
288 GTO build sounds amazing 🥳
If anyone can do it, it is you 💪
Would love to follow that build.
Br Jacob
Cheers Jacob
You are the Ferrari man with the total knowledge. We can all suggest, but it is YOU who knows what is best, and the finances you have available to work on your decision. My comment, not decision choice, for this vehicle would be to restore it to original. There is too much around of converting cars that soon there will be very few originals available.
How about a coffee table motor…? And a lot of parts for e-bay!
GTO GTO GTO all the way. I have a 1/24 Burago GTO that I got when I was 12. Would love to see a real "tribute" one built.
288 is the best looking car of all time. Please, please, please do this option. I’d only want it in red, but black would be acceptable. Think this would give you the best content. You already have a restoration going on with the 512.
Rebuild this 328. Would be a stunning car. Trading up to a wrecked F40 🇮🇹
Some spoiled crypto kid will wreck a F40 sooner then later for you to pick up 🇮🇹👍🛠
No need to wait ....watch this space
@@Ratarossacrypto cryptic clues..🤔🤔
I agree on the fun project.I think you might be able to weld and fix he motor parts maybe not you but an expert in welding. I would love to see the GTO.
GTO build would be insane
A 288 project would be wicked cool but despite the crash damage this one seems too nice to hack up and with the potential resale value it seems like a waste. Only thing to consider is if a donor car for a 288 project can be sourced instead of this one and still at a good price
Get an entire front end from a crash damaged car and restore it. The engine can be saved or replaced (potentially from the same donor that the front end comes from). It's tidy and low mileage, so worth saving, and you will make a good profit on it.
288GTO is my favorite Ferrari. The world needs one more 288, we can stand to lose one 328 in the process
For now just keep it. What about the silver 308? Come January bonus time I’ll genuinely bid you on that Scott. And the black one and the 456. Etc etc. we all waiting for the F40 build! Let me know on silver 308
The silver one currently is being looked into, ill do an update video on that very soon
I would try to rebuild the car! Such low milage and overal condition seems to be pretty ok. If the engine is not tatally gone i woould for sure do it. I think between 15 and 30K you will finish the car and have a great value for it and we have the content. So much looks very nice still. So go for it. At least build out the engine and see what it's like. Maybe it's bad, but maybe it's not that bad and you rebuild it and buy the parts needed, missing and destroyed.
😂 Scott u are never going to find a donor car for the F40 build everyone you buy you love them to much!!😂 save this classic!!👍 work your magic and get her bk on the road ! Thanks for another great upload❤👍👍👍
I personally think you should restore it to its former glory. Given that the 328 market is as good as it is and that you got your car for such a bargain, you could make a really nice profit if you were to restore the 328 and sell it on and vice versa you could make some money that could go towards the cool project.
Part it out, and use the money for something else. A 288 build would be cool, but you would never get out of it what you'll put into it. Being practical is always the fun, or exciting thing do. It's the right thing to do in the long run though. Some opportunity will come along where you will wish you had that money.
Fix the car as a low milage 328 and sell it at a decent profit or part the car out at a profit, keeping the bits you need for the F40 project. I would not go down the GTO tribute car rabbit hole, especially since you already have the F40 project started. Just my two cents (pence):)
Build it !!! bring back as many as possible!
19:05 the gallery aaldering is not in the UK its in the netherlands in fact ive been there recently lovely collection to see and most cars are for sale
Scott mate what best i think is to restore the whole car and then when its all complete then sell it off for big propit .👍good luck
288 GTO conversion - just has to be that choice!, was my dream car growing up and in that black colour scheme, just looks great
