As an engineer for a large auto company my advice is keep an eye on the wear of your home made strikers for the hood. They are made with a very specific shore hardness to reduce wear caused by hood movement. the last thing you want is a hood opening on the motorway

They chew through tyres like a Fireblade on a track day. A grand a set and you'll be lucky to get 15k out of them.
Yer I just replaced a set but got cheaper tyres £230 a set .... will see how long they last.

Finally, someone does a proper job on the bumper refresh with an explanation on why there is a need to update the bonnet. Especially liked how you converted the radar housing into the neew lower grill mesh. However, you only glanced over the issue with the wiring loom not being long enough for the transformation. How did you tackle this.
really simple you just need to add a bit of wire to two sensors to extend them. 10 min job

I reckon you should invest in a 3/8 "+ 1/4" drive socket set for any future Tesla mods fella. Obviously not that fitter friendly to work on but for buckshee who cares . Being as it has free charging will buying damaged newer models keep her going for ever or is there a limit to the swapping potential .either way enjoy the spoils of a insurance claim and keep up the great content

How did the truck manage to hit you on that corner if you were plugged into a Supercharger at the time? There would only be a couple of feet gap between the charger and the cars charge port.......

I have seen RUclips, In USA teslas with salvage titles can’t use super chargers, is this going to be ok to keep super charging?
Not sure if I misunderstood your explanation of the insurance issue, but if they categorised the car and allowed you to buy it back there have been instances where Tesla have removed the ability to supercharge due to potential damage to the battery packs. Apparently it can be very difficult to get back and requires an inspection.
Sorry I didn't mention ... it was not write off and not categorised. It was a payout to repair and for loss of use
initially, the total lossed and categorised, I made them remove and change the settlement offer

Free supercharging for life? How does this work, like a optional extra for whoever purchased it new? Great project 😎 bought time someone modified a Tesla! Love what you did with the bonnet latch and not just blowing £300 like a lot of RUclipsrs would 👍
It's tied to the car itself. Tesla will remove a car from being able to supercharge for a variety of reasons. There's a race-modded Tesla named E-roy floating around on YT.
If I remember correctly free supercharging for life is only for the older models because they were originally advertise as so. Then Tesla changed the terms so the original free supercharging cars were grandfathered in.

Truthfully on a white goods thing like a Tesla, I wouldn’t have bothered, it’s a old car even facelifted and there’s not really many Tesla enthusiasts around who would actually noticed the difference !!

The Tesla looks really good and I'd have one as they seem to be the best, that said I'm curious to ask the big question, how long has this cars battery got left and can you find that out, and what if? In lieu of the other cars quick demise? Further to that as it's your daily how does it do in snow, ice etc and how does the battery cope with cold weather? As all the testers say electrics prefer warm weather. I have seen a couple of mini cab drivers up here in Leeds on some of my bus routes,using older Tesla's for I would imagine the same reasons as you ie free charging (and it's a hell of a deal, though sort of a calculated risk by Tesla as they know your battery won't last forever, and I presume if you do shell out for a new battery, will you get the same free charging deal?, or is it "new" therefore to pay for like a new car??)

PLEASE put some spacers on the wheels....it looks like it skipped leg day! IIRC, 20mm in the back and 15mm in the front get it flushed up without rubbing.

The car simply has a super muffler system on the exhaust, that's all, so your iPhone is working fine.
When you discovered the Tesla needed a new battery at £18K, you should have done an EV conversion. You could be the first to convert an EV into an ICE.
Just don’t let Tesla know it was written off or potentially they will switch off your ability to Supercharge, which would be extra painful as yours is free

I am a petrolhead and I also have a Tesla Model S as my daily. Scott even has the same colour and same 21` alloys with free supercharging for life. I have saved over £8k per year in running costs. I find his Tesla videos really interesting. Keep up the great work Scott.

Reliable but bloody expensive to maintain and with the scarey diesel prices last year getting to £2/litre made me wonder if a sub 10k Tesla would be a better option as pricewise it's practically a straight swap.
Seeing the way the car you had which seemed to be running perfectly suddenly not boot and a diagnosis of dead 15K battery doesn't ring true.
It seems to le to be very similar to Epsom printers that used to suddenly stop worki g and demand a service after a predetermined amount of prints.
A pirated software reset gets it back up and running until it actually does need a service
By which time it's actually worn out anyway. It's not beyond imagination that Tesla program a predetermined milage into the car to die once it exceeds that point. That being the case I'll stick with my Audi.
Nothing is truly free.. just premiums go up. But interesting project. But im going to stick with a good old combustion car due all battery’s need replacing and they cost way more than a new or refurbished engine. Let alone i would struggle to charge and I wouldn’t enjoy a ev on my long road trips.

I have to call bullshit on this again. First he claims to have bought 2 Tesla`s for under 10k each which believe me is not possible I have tried. I rang every rental and lease company in the country & found nothing under 15k even with 200k +miles on them. I challenge you to find me a Tesla for 10k now that would make a cracking piece of RUclips content.
Would not touch an electronic vehicle with barge pole as they are unpractical where I live and dangerous a potential fire hazard and as you found out after 10years old needs new battery at £17.000 not practical at all and anyone that has a classic car that was exempt well if they convert it to run electric it will need to mot on it
*shrug* It really depends on if there is a third party garage that can repair battery packs in your area that would factor into whether it's worth investing in an older BEV. That being said, you are right, it would be problematic to buy an older one without such a repair shop in the area since full battery replacement simply isn't worth it financially for someone who has to buy a used vehicle in the first place.

It really isn't considering it's cheaper to drive certain vehicles in places that charge a daily fee to drive ICE vehicles there. AdamC mentioned it in one of his recent videos.

What are you gonna do when the battery goes bust? Buy a $20,000 replacement it doesn't seem like much of a great deal between electric and gas when a $20,000 battery replacement looming over your head that can go out at any time!
