It took me almost a year to watch your videos about the 296. That's how much I'm interested in hybrids. No matter how good they are, I'm still not convinced. And the fact that you won't trade your Scuderia and F12 for it makes me believe that driving it won't change my mind.
Thx for this 296 review i was waiting for a long time. (excited to see the last one). This car is just fantastic, the whole package is so good. The electric futur should be that for me. Of course now, based of near 100% reviewers, would be so intelligent to propose a replacement for the steering wheel and/or tactil buttons.. (why Ferrari are not thinking to propose that ? the wheel is already better on the SF90XX). I am quite sure a lot of owners would pay for an upgrade...
While I do love the options fitted in this example, but 400k is _VERY_ steep. Here in Indonesia I've heard that the starting price is in the region of GBP500k (blame our tax, but relatively well-priced compared with Aventadors of old) but some were specced to a rather eyewatering GBP700-800k. I'd love to go with the Tailor Made options if I have unlimited budget, though. Perfect one for me would be that Baby Blue or Azzurro La Plata for the exterior with Charcoal/Baby Blue interior, silver calipers, that forged wheel in normal colour, no Assetto Fiorano and no Scuderia Shield. And no carbon options, adds nothing but an extra wince on your face every time you drive over a speedbump or when you load your luggage for the fear of scratching those carbon splitters or boot cover. Also, funny remarks on the noise. Does sound somewhat like RB26DETT or 2JZ-GTE. Not a bad thing, mind. The GT3 ones sound like... well, any other turbo 6-cylinder GT3 racecar you could care to mention. And that Dell laptop fan noise gave me bad memories from my university days...
Great comments regarding kids. I used to have cars to race around in, but nowadays the fun / laughs / smiles my old Ferrari brings everywhere we go is half the fun. I’ve always felt like Ferraris are slightly silly - if you’ve gone out in one you’re likely up to some shenanigans

Should have seen what Japanese tuners were doing 20+ years ago. Have a look at the video of a Mine's Skyline being thrashed on track by Keiichi Tsuchiya; the response from a TURBO engine is absolutely unreal.
@deanchur the mine's skyline got it's response from a gear ratio change not the cams, turbo or tuning (although 0 doubt they all helped). Motive video have a great episode on it. I'm a JDM guy through and through but I think here you can't compare apples to oranges. A modified car will walk even the most hardcore manufacturer cars with exception to only your porsche GTX RS products. Have a look at tsukuba times, in the 90s shops were putting out silvias which even 30 years ago managed better times than modern gt3's can get

Oh! I finally get the Piccolo V12 thing with that clip a 8:44 :o It does sound like a Ferrari V12! It has than thunderous tone to it! I find that this to the Ferrari V12 is like Audi TT RS 5 cilinder engine to a Lamborghini Gallardo V10 engine, it's the same, just with less layers 🤔
Well, if you're asking for a colour recommendation you know there's only one thing I can say to you: That blue from your favorite Ferrari, the F355. That blue, yes. And then with gold brake calipers and light brown interior.
Although it's very pretty, quick, capable and probably amazing to drive; it's not really doing it for me. I guess I'm an old fashioned person and I like old fashioned cars. Especially with a Ferrari, I want actual gauges with white on black markings. I want switches that click. I think I want an actual gear lever and clutch pedal. At last the cars like that still exist, even if it's getting difficult to buy them new. Not that Ferrari is going to lose any sleep, I couldn't afford a 296 even at base price and never mind the options.
Ferrari used to be about passion and driving experience, so we were more forgiving with the bad infotainment and reliability trouble. The fact that Ferrari are more about a luxury brand experience now, the poor user experience is just a deal breaker.
8:45 Yes 100%, this sounds like a Nissan (I'd say it sounds more like an R35). Ferrari has encountered the same problem with a V6 as Ford did trying to make a flat crank V8 that doesn't sound like a Ferrari.
Even at 20k off they aren't selling.. Also look at the auction sites, final selling prices have noticeably come down this year. Same with luxury watches. Don't know about anything else because that's all I follow haha.

Totally agree, Ferrari are I believe cutting off their noses to spite their faces, as customers will loose all the value of their ridiculous extras after a year and a lot will suffer a £100,000 loss and so their customers will be reluctant to keep taking losses like that 😢

And yet their order books are filled till the end of 2025. People who are buying these cars don’t seem to care about depreciation and overpriced options.

The throttle response gets the job done in transmitting urgency but acceleration (which does gloriously build with rpm buildup) responds in delayed molasses-like squirts. The unprecedented performance levels are 'egged on' with too much deliberation for my tastes. Satisfaction will come at incarcerating speeds. I would rather feel the tug instantly with small throttle inputs as with the MC20 and thus have more fun within legal speeds.
Paying *more* not to be able to have a front lift? That is completely insane. I don’t know how a front lift is even an option, cars without them are extremely hard to sell and drive.
luxury cars should have physical dials and analogue speedomotor and RPM gauge. As manufactuers start slapping ipads everywhere, physical buttons and analogue dials could be something that differenciates the luxury car, along with the soundtrack the engine provides.
I looked at one of these and amazing car but it lacked soul and was really expensive, i chose the technica in the end, it just seemed to tick more boxes apart from HP
Blame the horsepower restrictions in the GT3 rule book for that. The Le Mans winning 499P hypercar uses the same base V6 as this car with more aggressive hybrid assist.

I got mine in Blu Pozzi without AF pack, Blu Medio bucket seats with some yellow inserts. The exterior in my mind looks hideous so better hide it with a dark colour.

As an owner (non-AF) I enjoyed your review, couple of things - my GT3 RS sounds better, in fact a lot better. And I agree the pricing on the options is obnoxious, the reality is buyers are not worried about that. Lastly, its a great car, epic and pliant at the same time a very difficult trick to achieve.
What about this review caused you to come to that conclusion? I’ve owned both cars, the 296 is a far superior car to the 458 in virtually every single area
@@jameswillard1 Sound, looks, impression, resale value. The 296 just has nothing that speaks to me or other car enthusiasts unless you talk about absolute speed and acceleration. What good is a car that doesn't feel right with an inferior V6 and is too fast in every instance to be enjoyed? I only drove an F430 before but that was more than enough to be biased towards the older gens. You'll never get to use this amount of speed unless you live in Germany (which I do)

I typically don’t watch many of JayEmm’s car reviews because he seems to rarely be impressed with anything, and in my experience, dwells too much on any negatives…..so for him to say that, despite his test cars insane price and it’s quirks/issues, that he’d still have one and go on and on about how impressive a driving experience this car was to him says something right there. I realize it’s one persons opinion but this conclusion is echoed by many other people who have experience with previous Ferrari’s and supercars
@@jameswillard1 Yeah, I gotta admit Jay's videos can be genuinely biased (it's probably just my theory but British people really do tend to dislike the 911 for example, I mean Clarkson had a genuine hatred towards it). It's not that I'm not impressed, these numbers really speak for themselves and it's capable of beating the holy trinity for a fraction of the price, but at least to me there's just not such a wow effect like other previous Ferraris give me. Admittedly I have a rather unprofessional opinion towards this as only my Ferrari driving instructor got his hands on a 296 so far. Maybe my mind will change when I get to drive one. For the moment being, I might have to test drive some other sports cars before that, as I'm not confident in driving an 820 hp car yet. I didn't even expect anyone to reply to this comment let alone someone with experience, so I'm glad you don't take my view personally.
I really miss the days with the F355 was 80K and the options on that were an automatic gearbox and a convertible roof. I think this modern problem of insane prices for the cars and the options (this doesn't apply just to Ferrari though) is a problem created by the people themselves, because they've let Ferrari get away with it by agreeing to pay these stupid amounts of prices. So with the people waving outside the door with money in their hands, of course Ferrari is going to charge as much as they can.
This has to be the most unfortunate Ferrari spec to ever leave the factory.... just unbelievable. I'm really sorry for the negativity, but this has to be THE SPEC to get if you want to keep it forever.
New cars are just blinking big - and wide! I looked at the Audi EV GT as it’s basically a Taycan 4S for less. Have you seen how wide they are on any road!
Great looking car. Like the paint (although generally don’t like red cars). The wheel color looks terrible. I drive a plug-in hybrid daily. If I had the means to buy a Ferrari, it would not involve an electric motor
I'm borrowing that Ferrari next so they said to tell you to just drop it off at my house when you're done. Don't worry homes, I'm a professional. I'll take real good care of it! Seriously though it's a good looking Ferrari, which in my opinion isn't a given anymore.

Re haptic controls, on a much lesser car its what stopped me upgrading my Golf GT mk 7 to a mk8.
Now you need to be consistent. You did not buy the newer model Golf because of these buttons, so now you can't purchase a 296 either ;-)

Ferrari to dealer profit is 32% dealer profit is 12-15% when you drive it out of the dealer it is worth 33% less .
Also it's 20k on any used California, probably way worse with something more exotic

I think i'd rather take your advice and wait for the Porsche market to cool. Just recently some 992 GT3's have reduced by $10k - $20k AUD 😊

Regarding the color you'd have it in, I saw a 296 the other day in a semi-flat earth-tone green. Can't say I though it wore it well.
They should have a 'selector' that is the same as a gated shift! Why not? Have all the selection on an H shift!

@@jameswillard1 Sound, looks, impression, resale value. The 296 just has nothing that speaks to me or other car enthusiasts unless you talk about absolute speed and acceleration. What good is a car that doesn't feel right with an inferior V6 and is too fast in every instance to be enjoyed?
I only drove an F430 before but that was more than enough to be biased towards the older gens. You'll never get to use this amount of speed unless you live in Germany (which I do)
@@Corvolet5 well based on your opinion I’d say you’re less than impressed with the 296 which is fine, but clearly you’re in the minority. I typically don’t watch many of JayEmm’s car reviews because he seems to rarely be impressed with anything, and in my experience, dwells too much on any negatives…..so for him to say that, despite his test cars insane price and it’s quirks/issues, that he’d still have one and go on and on about how impressive a driving experience this car was to him says something right there. I realize it’s one persons opinion but this conclusion is echoed by many other people who have experience with previous Ferrari’s and supercars
@@jameswillard1 Yeah, I gotta admit Jay's videos can be genuinely biased (it's probably just my theory but British people really do tend to dislike the 911 for example, I mean Clarkson had a genuine hatred towards it).
It's not that I'm not impressed, these numbers really speak for themselves and it's capable of beating the holy trinity for a fraction of the price, but at least to me there's just not such a wow effect like other previous Ferraris give me. Admittedly I have a rather unprofessional opinion towards this as only my Ferrari driving instructor got his hands on a 296 so far. Maybe my mind will change when I get to drive one. For the moment being, I might have to test drive some other sports cars before that, as I'm not confident in driving an 820 hp car yet.

I really miss the days with the F355 was 80K and the options on that were an automatic gearbox and a convertible roof. I think this modern problem of insane prices for the cars and the options (this doesn't apply just to Ferrari though) is a problem created by the people themselves, because they've let Ferrari get away with it by agreeing to pay these stupid amounts of prices. So with the people waving outside the door with money in their hands, of course Ferrari is going to charge as much as they can.
I drive a perfectly nice estate with lots of nice gadgets including android auto and it cost less than the stripe on this car.

This has to be the most unfortunate Ferrari spec to ever leave the factory.... just unbelievable. I'm really sorry for the negativity, but this has to be THE SPEC to get if you want to keep it forever.
New cars are just blinking big - and wide! I looked at the Audi EV GT as it’s basically a Taycan 4S for less. Have you seen how wide they are on any road!

I'm borrowing that Ferrari next so they said to tell you to just drop it off at my house when you're done. Don't worry homes, I'm a professional. I'll take real good care of it! Seriously though it's a good looking Ferrari, which in my opinion isn't a given anymore.
