DJI Care Refresh Review! My Experience AFTER Crashing my Mini 3 Pro!

  • I recently crashed my beloved DJI Mini 3 Pro and kinda destroyed the gimble... Well, fortunately I had signed up to the DJI Care Refresh service. This was actually something I was initially hesitant to do (after never needing it in 18 months of flying my Mini 2).
    However, now I DID need it so was it worth it? Here is my full review of the DJI Care Refresh program and my thoughts as to whether it is worth purchasing or not. Enjoy!

      Hi Simon great result. Im in the middle of making a claim with DJI refresh on my mini 2 . Completely pilot error trying to hand catch it which I've done many times . unfortunately this time blades court my fingers it fell to the ground breaking battery cover and cracking underside case ware near rear arms open exposing the screws .I don't think I will be trying hand catch again.

      I remember I tried to hand catch the Mini 2 a while back... ended up slicing my finger on one of the props :P Yeah, I not tried that again!

      If your battery is functioning normally, you can choose whether or not to send it back: If the battery is sent back, DJI will provide you with a battery as part of this accidental damage replacement service; if the battery is not sent back, a replacement battery will not be provided.
      - If your battery cannot be shipped out or is rejected by the courier due to severe damage, please contact DJI to provide proof of damaged battery in form of photos or videos, a replacement battery will be provided after photo/video verification.

    As a new DJI Mini 3 Pro Owner, with care refresh - this was a great video to see! Thanks for sharing your experience! I had a mini for 2 years and had care refresh but never needed it. With the more expensive Mini 3 Pro, I;m glad to see how well this went for you. Subscribed!

      Thanks! Yes, I too had Care Refresh for my Mini 2 and after not needing it for 18 months I *almost* didn't get it for the Mini 3 Pro. Glad that I did now though!

    I just put in a warranty claim on my Mini 3. It was the best, easiest, quickest turnaround on I've ever had on a warranty/service claim on a product. Not only that but when i sent it back i forgot to remove my UV filter and SD card. They sent those back with the drone. And they called the day after i received the drone to verify everything was good.

    What a nightmare. Could easily have happened to anyone.
    I'm constantly catching myself flying sideways or upwards without being totally sure if it's clear.
    Delighted it worked out so well for you. It certainly seems to be an excellent service.

    Hey Simon! Great to see you had such a wonderful experience with the DJI Express service. I called them because I was experiencing some issues with Display freeze and lagging (RC) and they wanted me to ship it in and pay $65 but I said I didn't see why I should pay anything if it wasn't the result of something I did. the problem seems to have cleared up (I didn't ship it back) but in retrospect, it is great to see the Express service really is Express and $65 for a complete replacement is pretty cool!! Cheers! Hope you didn't get sick from the pond water!!

    Yesterday when trying to fly my DJI Mini 3, the wind swept mine into a tree breaking an arm. This morning, I wen to the website and yes, the process was exactly as you described and I've now got my UPS shipping labels. I'm traveling so I'll have to wait until later this afternoon to package up my broken drone and send it back. Hoping to see a similar experience after I get it sent off. Thanks for the video, as this crash gave me great anxiety since I've only had the drone for almost 2 months and I was not sure what to expect.

    Thanks for your excellent presentation. I too had a similarly positive experience with DJI Care Refresh with my original mini. Flying low on a beach in British Columbia, Canada, a freak powerful gust tossed my Mini onto the beach and into a shallow tidepool. I sent the unresponsive drone back and it was rapidly replaced with a brand new unit. Brilliant! I will be grabbing the same coverage when I purchase a Mini 3 this fall. Highly recommended coverage.

    Crashed my Mini 3 Pro on its maiden flight (also a tree) 😭 Only my second crash in nearly 10 years of drone flying. This drone was the first time I purchased DJI Care Refresh (out of 2 previous DJI drone purchases). Sent my drone on Friday at 5:30PM by drop-off at local UPS depot. It was shipped to DJI in the Netherlands from the UK over the weekend and arrived there this morning. I have just received the shipping notice for the replacement, no more than 3 hours after receipt. Absolutely fantastic service!

    Great Video, I have Care Refresh and Public Liability Insurance.
    I wasn't aware that Care Refresh covered crashes that were pilot error, that actually puts my mind at peace in case I ever have an accident.

    Thanks Simon I did take the refresh service with my purchase and it’s so reassuring that DJI do as they say on the can. So glad you have a replacement and I didn’t laugh when you said you fell in the pond ……sorry… 😂

    Thank you for the information! I'm about ready to go through the process for a M3P. I do have a couple of questions though and was wondering if I could ask? Did you ship it back in the original box and what did you have to include? Mine only has a collision damage. Broken gimbal and props. Since it did not have water damage, I'm not sure if I should include the battery. Any information is appreciated. Thanks again for the information and I'm glad to you are able to fly again.

    I also crashed my Mini 3 Pro into a tree while flying when tired…. I paid the £62 fee, packaged the drone and took it to a UPS Access Point (local WH Smiths) on Saturday, and it got back to DJI in the Netherlands on Tuesday. A replacement was dispatched the same day for delivery on Wednesday….which I actually got on Wednesday but no thanks to UPS who delivered it to a totally different UPS Access Point to the one agreed!!!
    DJI were fabulous, and kept me informed all the way, even phoning me to say they had received my drone and dispatched the replacement….excellent service from DJI and worth the cost of the care plan 👍

    I picked up the Mini 3 Pro yesterday and it is my first drone. I wouldn't normally take additional insurance but as there are more chances of something potentially going wrong compared to my TV on the wall, and also as I don't have the experience of flying it yet, I thought it was safer to have that peace of mind. I went with the two year plan and then I will see after that whether it is worth renewing and by then I'll also have a lot more experience of flying it making it less likely of me making a costly mistake

    Lost my Mini 3 up a tree yesterday... operator error, was doing a point-of-interest shot and misjudged height. Was nothing I could do after the crash.... drone stuck up tree, out of sight but could hear it when I did a "find my drone". Went back to the site today and was so lucky to find drone had since dropped to the ground. Some cracked plastic and a slightly broken arm. Was covered in dew too so suspect battery and electronics may have suffered too. Have put in application for replacement via Care Refresh, hopefully my experience will be as painless as yours. And I've learnt my lesson... take more care when flying!

      @sidneimarques Drone replaced with shiny new one - I had to pay a fee, I think about £65, but it was a simple process, turnaround was about a week.

    Thanks, I received the UPS labels and I will take it to them when they open. I don't know how much it will cost me yet, but I had to put quite a bit on deposit (credit card)

    Wish I had seen your video before filing my claim. I found it fairly confusing with so many different avenues to claim. I chose the express option with help of a phone operator, got my replacement in 3 days, and sent my recently deceased one back. I also got a new drone instead of refurbish! Lesson learned for me is that canyon walls are always higher than they look 😅

      I've been debating getting the refresh on my mini 3 pro. I bought it used in perfect condition it's probably well worth the price I'm just scared they would pull a typical insurance card and call something uncovered

    I crashed mine in the first week. I hit a power line and the drone landed in the middle if an intersection. It was mangled pretty good. The Drone was in the mail the same day back to DJI CARE REFRESH. Within a week my drone was replaced and in my hands. Great service. I will always pre scan for highwires from now on. The object avoidance just couldn’t see the wires.

    I’ve already had to use DJI Care Refresh after flying my Mini 3 Pro a total of 4 times.
    Hit a tree branch in my backyard. Fell on top of a patch of pine straw.
    Approaching it I really felt that it should have survived the fall.
    But of course the gimbal was broken.
    I’m in USA btw…drone was sent to DJI in California and I had my new replacement Mini 3 the next week. Total out of pocket was $65.

    Hi does it also cover internationally during travel? Say..I bought it in US, but crashed or fly away in Switzerland. Does it cover too or I can just process the claim once I'm back to US?

    my experience with customer support....
    the data analysis team has burned me several times: on a recent one claiming there was no product fault when there was (compass failed and mini 2 went 99km northeast crashing into a tree- thats normally impossible but I have a record) using them has caused delays in getting timely drone repairs.
    however the rest of the CS has been top class- they've given me discounts on drone repairs almost making care refresh pointless to have- however it IS great for fly away coverage and express refresh options alone (where you know damn well you had a pilot error)

    I was using Active Tracking with my MIni Pro 4 and it decided crash into my house. Was it my fault.... Maybe because I put to much faith in obstacle avoidance. However I'm so glad I got the 2 year plan. I had a new drone in a week. Very good service and I'll be more careful trusting the avoidance feature it does have it's limitations.

    My experience with care refresh goes like this, caught a branch (my fault), went through the motions with care refresh, dislodged one arm but didn’t actually crash on the ground so that was the only damage, had to pay $65, paid that as it is supposed be the deductible, ten days later got the drone back, under inspection it turned out to be a brand new replacement, am l happy? well yes, but l am patient. 🙂

    Hi Simon when sending it from uk did you have to put the invoice on the box aswell as the drone and provide to extra copies which you handed to the driver who picked up the package .also is there extra fee for arranging a slick up ?

      I attached two commercial invoices to the outside of the box and the third one I put inside of the package alongside the serial and case number of the drone.

    I did the same with my mini 2. It was in the river for at least 20 mins. But after sitting it in a bowl of rice for 4 days. It flew and has done ever since.😁 Trouble with the mini 3 is the camera sticking out. So it's always going to be a refreash case waiting to happen.
    Ps. For you and your viewers info. You can now get the mini 3 batteries on Amazon uk for £59 each.
    (In case flyers want extra batteries but not the cost of the fly more kit)

    After watching this video luckily I didn't start/ activated my brand new DJI mini 3 Pro and got my two years DJI Care refresh coverage.
    Hopefully nothing bad will happen.

    So I unfortunately crashed my 2 month old Mini 3 Pro. I have sent it to DJI per their instructions. They are covering this under the standard warranty which I appreciate it. For those that had your work done, I am curious... I've read lots of folks saying DJI replaced their drone. Most say with a new one, some say refurbished. My current status update gave the two broken pieces they found and noted they have "repaired" it and it will be returned. Did your online status say "repaired" as well when you were really issued a new one? I'm waiting on the return now which UPS is estimating Friday. Thank you.

    I flew my air 2s backwards in sport mode and twated into a wall I sent it back with care refresh a week later at no cost a new drone arrived fantastic service I'm a lot more diligent now

      MP3 doesn't have an 'above' sensor , just forward, backward and down.

    I've accidentally crushed my Mini 4 Pro.
    DJI had just two questions. When can you send us the damaged unit and confirm your address. I have a brand new one today.
    Excellent Customer Service.
    Great brand, pricey but well worth the effort.

    What packaging requirements are required, original box? I’m asking as I am possibly sending my mini pro back for the ‘Foggy lens’ issue that many are experiencing.

      I just wrapped it in bubble wrap and stuck it in a cardboard box with the required UPS labels and customs forms that DJI sent me by e-mail.

    Crashed mine along the wall of my house, broke the right rear propeller arm. Filed a claim, payed $65, shipped to them which took 5 days because of 4th of July holiday. They received it on a Tuesday and in that same day the sent out the replacement and got to me on Thursday. They did forget to send me my spare propellers but after emailing them about it they gave me 2 spare sets for free! So, my experience with them has been excellent! Glad I got the care express for that reassurance that it will cover my damaged drone. THANKS DJI!

    Did you have to take another dji refresh plan? Or they took automatically new drone id and added in to you old one?

      According to DJI, the original plan is automatically transferred over to the replacement drone.

    Mine just crashed so I contacted dji with my refresh and with in a few hours I had the labels sent to me for shipping so dji was spot on but UPS are crap I dropped mine of at a ups drop of point and its taken them a week to pick up joke then I get a phone call for custom clearance although they had all the details wanted them all again so sent this to them thought that was that and them got a email saying I had to fill another form out so done that then they told me it would ship yesterday and now I've just checked its still in this country and now scheduled for Monday there a bloody joke I go away in a week and thought this would be sorted especially this is meant to be a express delivery but I did speak to dji about this and must say so far they've been spot on I just hope they receive my drone early next week and get one back to me before my holiday but so far dji 10 out of 10 for support ups waste of time. As usual Simon informative video thanks for sharing 👍 😀 👌 🇬🇧

    i got the mini 3 and on my 3rd flight crashed it as i was distracted but dji replace it for £39 regular care refresh and now i've crashed crashed it again should not be distracted next time

    Did you have to do the non commercial invoice (multiple copies) thing? If so how did you get that done?

      Great question. Yes, DJI sent me a copy of something called the 'Commercial Invoice'. I printed three copies, signed and dated them all. Put one in a clear 'Documents Enclosed' pouch and stuck that to the package along with the UPS label. The other two I placed in a sealed envelope which I just stuck to the package also (I believe those two are spare in case customs requests them).

    I am in Australia and I had a very good experience with DJI the mini 3 I got was a dud wouldn’t update took it to DJI and was replaced on the spot.

    My drone had screws too tight so I could not change one of one of the propellers. So I made a service request. They did untighten the screws.
    Then they did send me the drone back. The drone was in the same carton package as I send it, but without any protection, it was loose in the box and the gimbal cover was off. This process took 2 months in total. This didn't cost me anything.
    I complained about the packaging and I asked if I could get a DJI Care Refresh still and then they asked me to do a video to prove the condition of the drone. Now, I have also DJI Care Refresh.

    The main problem is it will not be new. Its a refurbished unit. That happened with my new goggles when one screen went out. Dji sent me a different goggle that had been refurbished and the screens looked dim compared to my new ones. I ended up selling them cheap and buying a new set.

    Here’s my experience sending my mini 3 rc controller back for repair as it had battery issues.
    Dropped it off with ups drop off point 16th June. Tracking from that point never got updated.
    For days. So I chased it up with ups. One week later they confirm that they don’t know where it is and want 10-14 days to investigate. Around 14 days later (5 July) ups find the controller and send it to dji, from this point it takes them until 11th July to deliver it. Today is 14th July and dji still have it. Over 4 weeks later… although this is an issue with ups I still think dji are taking too much time (4 full days) and not been dispatched back to me yet.

      Wow that sucks! I have heard a few people have had issues when using UPS but yeah, DJI should really have acted sooner. Was that the Care Refresh service or just a standard repair?

      I had to return my air 2 under its warranty. Sent it to the Netherlands on the monday. Got a brand new replacement on the Thursday. Their new Express service is just that 👍
      Im.not using coverdrone again. The money you have to pay out for a replacement is a lot higher than dji refresh. Also dji now cover the loss in water.

    My drone had a fault and flipped when landing then wouldnt work again, clear fault, DJI care refresh rejected my claim even though i was covered, useless in my oppinion, whey wont replace. This is my 4th DJI drone so loyal customer, no loyalty coming back at all, and excuse not to replace or repair.

      How did you know if it was a refurbished one? I got mine back too not sure if its new or refurbished. When I contacted DJI they say its new but I don't believe them as I didn't have care refresh and they charged a very small amount to get it replaced.

    Hi Simon, it all depends on who you talk to, when I crashed my mini 2 I spoke to 3 different people and got 3 different responses.
    I screenshot the best repsonce (for me) and went with that one and have the chat recorded so they had to go with that lol
    I am getting more and more disappointed with dji..

    I watched tons of videos before deciding to buy the Mini 4 pro, then after buying I wanted to buy Care Refresh for sure. Sadly, Care Refresh is NOT available in entire South America. I am from Chile so there is no option.

    I think this clearly demonstrates why some people shouldn’t be flying even paper aeroplanes
