This was very informative gav I was new to this hobby and in excitement didn't activate care refresh an there process after the 48 hours is not very user friendly for none tech minded ppl but on watching your video got a quote in minutes from coverdrone an it's not much more in price an so simple to do cheers bud

Hi Gavin, good video I have dji refresh with my Mavic air 2 have used as I had a problem with it malfunctioning & then having a brand new replacement after giving flight records etc. I gave heliguy refresh cover with my Mini 2 they do repairs in their premises in Newcastle & have dji trained technicians. 👍

I have the DJI Care plan, I'll be honest I never even thought about third party insurance until after I brought it. I only got the one year plan so once that expires I will certainly be getting something like this!
Super awesome information on the drone coverage and my drone actually came with DJI Refresh cover already but I think the prices they charge are a bit extreme so maybe I will check out Coverdrone
I've gone with Coverdrone, thank you. It seemed a much easier process for adding my two drones than the DJI post 48 hour mess about.

Thanks gav...just insured my mini 3 pro with Coverdrone after being unable to get any cover from Dji due to it being used and the previous owners care cover had expired. Got 1yrs cover with 1,000,000 public liability included, £50 excess. Cost me £55 so well happy. Noted you as a refere aswell. Thanks again ;)

Somehow I think DJI will recoup the other xtra costs of fly aways by increasing the price of their drones. Great video 👍

Good video. I think the damages insurance included in the non DJI product is really worth having. I know another youtuber who reports that he sent his drone off for repair to DJI using their chosen courier and the drone has now been lost. Apparently DJI assume responsibility once its been collected however they are insisting he waits for a full investigation on the missing package before they send a new drone. Meanwhile he has no drone for his youtube channel. That poor service puts me off. The channel is ‘OK Portugal’. 👍. I think I may take out some insurance and if I do I will happily use your link 👍

Does refresh just cover you in the uk ? And does cover drone cover outside of the uk ? Im not sure which one to go with tbh 😂
Great informative video Gavin. I just phoned Coverdrone and asked them about their repair excesses, I was surprised to hear that Coverdrones repair excess on all their repairs with Heliguy is £100 even if its a just £50 pound repair.Where as DJI repair excess are included in the premium as long as its not a drone replacement.
Hi Clive, you are totally correct if it's a repair DJI care refresh works better - but if it comes to a replacement or a flyaway then coverdrone becomes the cheaper :)
@@GAVINHR Hopefully Coverdrone will read this as i think they probably offer a better customer service.... I can understand them charging £100 xs for a repair on a £1000+ drone, but for the cheaper Mini 2 a more realistic pro rata repair xs would of been about £50. Where as all DJI repairs are free, and if they cant repair it they only charge £45 xs fee for a replacement drone.
I went with Coverdrone and covered my mp4 £1000 and got £300 cover for land based losses and that was just before i found this video 👌
With any insurance policy - coverdrone, if you claim, there is a good chance your policy will go up next year. But you will also have to inform your home or business insurer if you have claimed also. Like driving cars, if you crash your car and insured on your partners, you need to inform both insurers. Insurers always ask if you have made a claim the past 12 months. DJI care refresh is the best option for me, as I don't want to have to inform insurers that I am high risk in the event of a repair etc.
So I'm just getting into this and intend to get a mini 2 this week. Without going into details I already have people lined up who want me to do paid work - trouble is .. .looking at Coverdrone - the cheapest commercial insurance I can get is not £60 .. but £170 for a yr and it's even worse if you pay for a shorter time period ... guess the paid stuff is going to have to wait... not cheap ...

I bought a DJI drone from Amazon and had problems with it so Amazon refunded me the money but then I tried to get the money from Dji care refresh but can’t get ahold of anyone The support number is always busy. So do I just give up the $239 that I paid? Any wise advise?
I just got a quote via Coverdrone here in Canada however they sublet out to a totally different insurance company who makes you sign up for a COPA membership 1st before I can get the insurance plan, which is kinda lame.
Therefore a year is $160 plus the $75 per year membership.

Hi mate! Yes essentially you get both types in one policy! Sadly it does not cover the US as such but there is worldwide cover in europe so yes if you was travelling you could use it and claim :)
Going through a claim at the moment with Coverdrone, all very easy and quick, submitted a claim through the online form, coverdrone then let me know they had been in touch with Heliguy, who would send me DPD labels, so I could send them the drone for assessment, drone dropped off at DPD drop off point, and is at this point on its way to Heliguy. My premium was just under £50 for my mini 2, and the compulsory excess for loss or damage is £50, this is £100 for damage to a 3rd party

One important thing to bear in mind is Coverdrone policies also give public liability cover in the event of a claim from a member of the public if say you damaged their property or injured someone.
It also gives cover for invasion of privacy claims!
Coverdrone will also provide cover for theft.
None of the above are provided by DJI refresh etc which is really just a “Hull cover” (excluding theft) for crash, malfunction, fly-always etc.
Coverdrone (Heath Underwriting) are a good bunch of guys and have used them for my commercial cover previously. 👍
100% mate, I did mention the public liability and privacy in my video as it's a huge benefit! As I said not sure if you got to that point but as I say it's not about your equipment ... It's all about if you damage somebody else's property or hurt somebody that's what you should think of! I tried to make the video as comprehensive as possible so mentioned all the points you have brought up! And yes thanks it's working just perfect.. to be honest with you it was a bit out of sync so between me and you they ship footage flight was after the swim so it's absolutely all good thank you're asking. Please continue to write on Disney's videos by the way .. somebody sent me your one from today, incredible 😂👍

3:35 you don't necessarily have to wait 72 hours. It can take UP TO 72 hour but I submitted my video 4 hours ago and it already got approved by DJI to purchase care refresh for my mini 2. As long as your drone is functioning normally and you're able to complete the steps in the video it's almost a guarantee that they will approve your ability to purchase care refresh according to their customer service.
In glad you had a easy positive experience on getting it all approved! I have heard recently they have been getting quicker so that's a good thing all round :)

Thanks Gavin. I have DJI Care Refresh For my Mavic Mini I, and contacted Coverdrone for insurance. At the time they wouldn't cover Cyprus. Now Cyprus have adopted the new EASA regulations, maybe this will change. Cheers

@@GAVINHR I was informed by my local training provider yesterday here in Cyprus, that 'there are loads of drone insurance providers in Cyprus now'. I have yet to find a single one locally, and have asked him to provide a recommendation. Let's see what he says eh? I will contact Coverdrone UK again, to see if they have any changes in providing cover to Cyprus flyers. Cheers mate!

I got my cover drone sometime ago one of the questions I asked me was how much liability insurance I wanted 1 million or 2 million not the 1 million you suggested so you can go for more than 1 million if you want to
Cheers for this, great info. I got a quote yesterday and signed up for a year’s cover today. Conveniently before my flight in light snow, just in case ;-) it was great anyway though.
So much easier with them isn't it! Less excess if you fly Away .. cover more and public liability if needed! Glad the flight went well - never flown in the snow myself yet!
@@GAVINHR exactly! Those are the points that sold it to me. Oh its great but I wouldn’t (purposely) go in too heavy snowfall. I did sort of accidentally the other week as I flew it into some quite heavy snow but turned around and got out just in case it dropped in a field. Was very impressed with it today as it had 30-35mph gusts against it as well at times.
It is a great drone there's absolutely no denying that - I wonder how on earth DJI will top it to be honest
@@GAVINHR Yeah, if they do a Mini 3 I’m kind of hoping its end of next year as opposed to this year. Can’t be and won’t be buying another one that quick. Total guess is that they might do the Mavic 3 later this year then come back to the Mini’s next year, but thats purely speculation!

I actually bought the dji refresh care after the 48h... and had to do the tests. In my personal experience, I think they were actually pretty reazonable in the asked for tests and those were pretty easy to do. Now, for the added bonus of the flyaway feature, it doesn't please me that much, as i'm not that confident about the app new version, but I admit I haven't test it or even looked at it properly...
You and everyone else at the moment Carlos and don't seem to be confident, I had the app crash on me last week - what I found worrying is at that time the drone was unresponsive I feel despite the app you should be able to still operate the drone, thankfully it came back - if you have DJI refresh flyaway is included - when you get chance bind the drone and controller then at least you have it !
I just bought a mini 2 from Best Buy yesterday, and every time I try to bind the new device (mine is); and I also purchased coverage they are not showing active even after now the 48 hours. I am not happy with DJI.

Last time I was this early, all the ships Lloyd's were offering good cover terms for triremes.
The uk nearest repair centre is the Netherlands, sent mine away and it took 2 months to come back, I was kinda a bit
Disappointed about the wait to be fair, but it didn’t take long for it to get a replacement sent back to me. I didn’t get charged for custom charges, I was worried that I might even know DJi said they will cover the cost of the postage

Just to make people aware that to annualy insure my Mini 2 with Coverdrone for Loss, Damage etc would be £59 as a non commercial pilot. Add Commercial to this and I'm looking at £226. 2 Days Commercial cover was £10.95

Hi Trevor - thank you, well the policy is quoted yearly but completely whatever suits your budget ! What's good aswell is you get public liability thrown in so it's really competitive!
@@GAVINHR that's what swayed me to it the public liability side of it , can you confirm whenever I have to claim for anything damage to drone etc is access £100 each claim ?
That is correct the excess is £100 however of course should you use DJI care refresh and not be able to recover the drone such as a flyaway then the price you pay is over £200!

The insurance is no good from my point of view. I am in retirement because of my health. So getting a replacement Mini 2 would be hard for me, as well as buying the one New Mini 2 I have now. I looked into the insurance with fly away, and said NO. The Sums don't add up, and I would say many will find that the insurance when they need it most will not work, or they will have to pay out big time. Keep safe and well brother. Hi Shaun, that is absolutely correct since making the video it’s been reduced to £50, I should probably add a pinned comment! Damage and flyaways are covered, Truthfully I’m not sure on the unlimited cover but usually they replace the drone like for like

Most of the time they send a different drone yes that is correct, as for if it's refurbished I don't know but either way they usually claim it will be repaired then one turns up with a different S/N

Hey mate, I found this very interesting as I'm in the process of buying a new drone. Having never heard of Cover Drone i was happy to hear they are available in Australia.
I tried to get a quote through their website and it doesn't seem they offer recreational insurance in Australia from what I can tell. It was not possible to select it. They also don't have any support available it seems during Australian business hours.
Seems like they have a great product and I was really interested in them to be honest but I ended up getting the DJI Care Refresh as I still haven't heard back from Cover Drone and it's the end of our business day here.

Further to this, I have now heard back from CoverDrone that they don't have insurance for recreational flyers in Australia.
Oh that is deeply disappointing especially as they say on the site that they offer it, I do apologize for the delayed response I have had a busy day filming. Yes indeed it's a great product maybe they should look to cover your area as it's s big market! Can only think it may be due to logistics if the drone was crashed etc

Do you happen to know if there is a time limit for adding DJI Care Refresh if your drone is still sealed in the original box, and never activated? for some reason I cannot find a straight answer to this question on their website, on forums, and even a live DJI CS rep seemed to say there was no limit, but he didn’t sound confident.
absolutely no limit I can assure you, the drone only becomes "active" once you first turn it on and during the setup process, following this you will be promoted to purchase care refresh, the CS rep was correct

I can assure you ! Want to know how I can tell you 100%? I have a video here I bought a drone from eBay - it was first firmed on in 2019 but there was an activation error so it never got activated therefore as far as DJI were concerned it was brand new. They covered it, replaced it and gave me a new 12 month warranty and I didn't even have the original receipt.
yet another thing I didn't know, that if you buy your drone from US and bring it to UK, you won't get the DJI Care Refresh cover. I live in UK and bought a DJI Air 2S from US 4 days before coming back to UK. Could not get the cover. BTW, I thought I would save money, but with customs tax, I ended up paying more.

Can I ask a question please. I'm new to all this and bought a dji mini 2 but I've an Samsung A41 and can't seem to download the dji fly app!
Is there another app that you could recommend that does the same job but I could be able to download?

You could always try maven for free or litchi but you would need to initially borrow a phone and use the fly app to activate the drone

No you can activate it with your android if you can get the app working, if you check out my video DJI fly app fix for Samsung follow the steps and see if it helps
If, let's say, somebody used all their DJI Refresh replacements, can they purchase a new DJI Refresh once they receive their latest replacement (possibly a refurbished unit) from DJI? If not, I guess Coverdrone is their next option... or maybe sell it on eBay and purchase a new standalone drone with a fresh DJI Refresh.

Coverdrone is not available in the U.S.. You should have mentioned that from the start.
So someone can just say “ my drone flew away and I was unable to locate it “ they would be charged 200 dollars and now they bought a new drone for half the price? Now they own 2 drones and just need to purchase another controller... Sounds like a deal lol..

That's positive news, still saw one yesterday though at time of filming. Shouldn't happen anyway. All DJI needed to do is advise it's a replacement on the commercial invoice and it's no issue
Very few new pilots ever even consider liability coverage. Inadvertently smack someone in the face with a .55# Mini in Sport mode ?? I like my house ....

If you are worried about third party claims, you should join the BMFA. You get £5M personal injury and £20M property damage for £38 per year, and it covers all your models. If the drone comunity had joined the BMFA in the first place, we wouldn't be in this mess.

Cover drones website is appalling doesn't show the different policies levels or what's covered in each without putting in loads of personal details . You can't even contact them to tell how bad their website is without telling them you name address shoe size, sexual preference favourite film etc .
I 100% agree the website and levels of cover should be clearer at quote stage or at least after, but there is a workaround ( I know it shouldn't take this ) after you get your quote, if you log back in to the website you can see the policy document and schedule before you buy it. I agree that information should be available without having to do that however.
I can’t recommend DJI care refresh. I had a damage claim for Mavic 2 Pro 5th Jan, using UPS to send to DJI in Holland is impossible. Still stuck in transit. UPS are useless. DO NOT GET DJI Care refresh it’s useless
Same here 🤦🏻♂️ they lost my replacement and I had to make loads of complaints to UPS and DJI and wait almost 2 months to actually receive my replacement. Apparently UPS delivered to the wrong address 🤦🏻♂️
