Thank you so much for this video. I just ordered my Gopro and you made the settings for underwater SO easy to follow. And it's great that there are customization settings. Thanks again!
I really enjoyed your video. Very informative and presented in an easy to understand way. I am beginner level and found this to be incredibly helpful. Thank you!
I appreciate the time for you to share this information saved us a lot of Hassle and we can hopefully have an enjoyable trip and share our adventures with our loved ones. God bless
Great information I just subscribed; underwater shots are difficult, at least in Maine. Light quality in the water, and the natural sunlight changes so quickly!
Nice informative video thank you. I have a GoPro 8 and will definitely watch this again before I go diving next. I mostly dive where visibility averages 5m and at depths down to 20+m. I will use the narrow view due to me videoing small subjects and use a macro lens made for a GoPro3, unfortunately I have to hold the macro lens up to the housing lens to get the desired result. Also using narrow disable 4K so I shoot in 1080.Thanks again
I found this very helpful and have adjusted my settings as per your advice. I'm just looking forward to getting the correct light to collect some shallow water and SUP footage.
Hey, I have a couple questions about the GoPro hero 9. Does The Max have to have a case to go underwater? And also do you have to have a camera stabilizer to make it look good?
Hey, thx for your Video. When i use a filter for scuba diving, is it also importend to make the ProTune settings - EV, ISO Colour - GoPro 10? Thank you. Regards Bobby
Werner, this is a great video, its very informative. I have a question, would you use these same settings when using the GoPro with video lights? Thanks
Thx - essentially yes. The video lights could have an impact on the white balance. If it causes problems you could try to set the white balance manually
Thanks for this, I’m diving next weekend and going to try it out. I’ll be in Monterey so it’ll be a little darker in the kelp forests, any specific suggestions for that not mentioned in your video? Also my biggest problem I’ve found is like you said the shots get very shaky, especially when I’m cold. Are there any camera setting that help stabilize shots?
Lowering the frame rate to 30fps or 25fps will help in a darker environment - the electronic image stabilization needs high shutter speeds to work properly. Raising the ISO would be the only solution but this would lead to ugly footage
As always, an excellent treatment for underwater. I've found the pink filter perfect for snorkeling with my Hero 7, but my new Hero 8 it's hard to get a filter mount unless you use the dive case. Without an underwater filter you have to do more work in post.
Well... I used a red filter on a recent scuba dive with my GoPro 9 and the footage looks awful when the sun hits le lens, it takes a lot of work in post to remove the red hue which changes widely depending on surface conditions (the more waves on the surface, the more shifts in light conditions). I will never use a red filter again with a GoPro, it ruins everything, it is easier to add some red in post than removing it in any kind of wild range.
Nicely done. Would these settings be good to use between stills and video? Also what about taking shots on land just before the dive starts. Don't really want to change settings back and forth. I don't think my hero 7 black has option to save settings like for water.
@@MountMediaChannel This also using the White Balance and Color Balance setting to Native? On shallow water it happened to me that the filter, perhaps too strong, gave a color that I was unable to recover in post. By the way, if you live in Trentino, we are pretty close ;)
Werner, amazing information and tips ! Question for you my friend, I do metal detecting, snorkeling and scuba diving, what GoPro would you suggest me to buy for all these activities that I do? Thanks for your help and time.
Hi Edgar, the Hero7 Black, Hero 8 and Hero 9 all work fine and are great cameras. The white balance of the newer cameras could work better underwater but I didn't make a direct comparison. Consider getting a red underwater filter for better colors.
@@MountMediaChannel Thank you, thank you so much for your help and advice, I'm buying one tomorrow, I'm super excited!! Grazie amico mio! Buona giornata!
I use the recommended setting and are amazing, the only problem is when I pass 36m, the image is to dark (very blue) using the Polarpro red lens for deep water, what I can do fix this? thanks
Get a dive video light. Has to be a wide angle designed video light. If you can afford it get a good/powerful one. Regular dive light ‘spot’ lights tend to overexpose one ‘hot spot’ and underexposed the rest. Can be used as a dive light too.
Super video, congrats 😀 Im about to get for the first time a go pro camera. I like to dive around 5-6m max. It is nessesary to buy the underwater case? Or i can go through without it too 🤔
@@MountMediaChannel how do you add sharpness in post? I shoot with low sharpness and flat color like you suggested in another video but can't figure out how to add sharpness!
Hey , thanks for these helpful tips . I’ve a question. Actually,I am a beginner with using a go pro ,so while trying to take a shots of fish underwater with a selfie stick by the go pro , all the fish run a way and the footage looks bad , so the question is ,Are fish afraid of a selfy stick because it looks like a hunting weapon?
Spend some time, extend your arm even when you're not shooting. The fish will get used to you but you need to stay around for a long while. Don't chase. They sense it, My best shots happen when i just chill and relax. also, bring a bit of bread rolled into balls or bait with you to get them to school around you. Takes time. :)
Would you not use 5k underwater since its only 30fps? Night dive the 30 might be better wouldnt it? What about if im using a DIVER PROPULSION. Id be moving pretty quick so id want a higher fps for that dive, should i go up to 120?
If possible I would use 60fps even - I would not go up to 120. For the night dive you should use 30fps. 5K gives you a slightly better image quality but I personally would prefer the higher frame rate.
@@MountMediaChannel so youd do the 5k@30 at night but pull it back to the 4k@60 for day diving? I probably wont be changing to many things in post but you never know right. Might see something. Surfing and rafting i know id use the 60fps for sure. Is 120 for when you are really moving fast?
THANKS BRO IM DIVING WITH MY GO PRO 10 UNDERWATER I tried underwater I have dive underwater 5 times 😍😍😘😘 with my underwater go pro I' have dive underwater 5 times 💓🙏 in green water 5 times
One YT video says to use high ISO. This YT video says to use a lower ISO. One YT video says to use a wide FOV. Another YT video says to use narrow. You can literally find a video that contradicts every setting stated in another video
Hi James, using high ISO on a GoPro will never be a good idea - the image will look really ugly. Narrow leads only to a digital crop - this can also be achieved in post - and why should someone prefer a narrow field of view under water?
