I've been banned on this subreddit for 7 years now. All because when I was a kid I made one minecraft animation and wanted to share it with the community and they said it's self promotion and banned me immediately.
I remember building something I had spent a couple days on, only for the same mod who wrote that apology to delete it as it was a "chain" post from another build I had made a few days ago.

It's a systemic issue. Not just with that sub but all of Reddit. The filtering system for who gets to be mod is purely activity + connections + interest. The three things most likely to make someone corrupt.
"We have investigated ourselves and found that we are not guilty"
@@janehrahan5116 its actually insane when you look into just HOW few mods control the majority of subs, this leads to shit like being banned/shadowbanned from other subs just because you pissed off one of the self fellating mods. combine this with the fact that the mods who actually have connections to big subs are WAY more likely to have this absolutely braindead karma mindset. There was this one mod I was keeping an eye on, who would manually delete posts to his sub, and the COPY PASTE IT HIMSELF. That loser had millions of worthless karma. I cant remember who it was RN maybe awkwardturtle? but they modded on multiple of the biggest (1m+) subs at the time.
there should be NO problem "karma farming" as long as its not by spamming or with the intent to sell the account. What the **** do they think the point of posting s*** on the internet is? If not to have other people give you attention, and to express/share something you care about.
But these noodle squeezers get so in the weeds with DA RULEZ they forget the vast majority of (non spam) posts are made by people who care about what they are sharing.
I got out of the reddit hole, I hardly post now, and really just use it to look stuff up. If I want an argument ill go on 4chan lmao way easier to ignore braindead stuff there when its gone in a few hours. My advice if you want to keep using reddit, is to get the www.reveddit.com/ extension, that way you are actually notified when a mod silently deletes your or others posts/comments. You can use it to check threads too could be fun to see the graveyard of comments on MC rn.
You will be shocked to see how much stuff is culled on old posts. Ive literally had mods manually go back and delete MONTH old comments after the fact. Just keep in mind, especially when browsing subs like MC, the stuff you see is whats left, not all the shit they have removed.
@@janehrahan5116 Plus if you know that if you farm karma for like a week you can usually ban just about any sub by lying about it to one of the trigger happy subs, you can basically blackmail them into letting you be a mod.

This happens because every subreddit, across all of Reddit, eventually employs a series of "Supermods" that moderate dozens of subs at once. These "Supermods" not only tend to have very strong inclinations to specific views, they often are decisions on the fly, often to the detriment of the subs in question. Many a sub has been killed by "Supermods" going on powertrips and basically making all subs into _their_ subs.
TheRealWormbo being one of them. In fact, he's suspected of being the one to make that milking karma comment.
Actually, Reddit itself often FORCES those supermods onto you, I'm friends with the owner of a fairly big sub and he told me about it, apparently reddit will threaten to delete your sub if you don't accept some of the moderator indications they send your way when your sub starts to reach a certain size.

Not to mention that many of those supermods are extremely homophobic, transphobic, and generally really bigoted.
No idea why any subreddit owner would let those people take over, considering how bad their reputation is.
God, i fucking hope the DRG subreddit isn't gonna get one of these wankers

What i could i think of that is we need a moderator team that actually has empathy, while also stick to the rules of the subreddit itself.
So what i could see in the problem itself is that the mods lacking some empathy thus thinking that the person who posted it milked his own girlfriend passed away from this world.
They need BOTH honestly, they need to change the rules and hire better mods
I'm fully convinced at this point that the mods are the problem here. No matter what their rules say, they've been making problematic decisions like this for years. The sub can't be fixed unless they're ousted.

Since there's been so many new updates, it's been quite a blast playing single-player worlds and finding out all the new stuff that they added into the game. With the integration of multiplayer, content-creation, and money into the mix, the simplicity of having the freedom to quite literally do what you want, is gone.
There's so many things left to do in the game! Create datapacks, learn command blocks, learn redstone, learn mapping, texture-creation, back-end coding! Their main issue is that whole "confidential until launch" thing. Moderation should not be a black box.
Moderation should always have been a transparent process. It makes mods more careful about not being shady, it allows users to clearly know what's acceptable and not, and shifts dicipline from what is effectively an oligarchic council to a public forum
Some of the most well-behaved communities I'm in keep a public log of their strikes and bans, creating an easy and effective connection between user and admins, making both more accountable.
I’m a mod in a large (350k) discord server. We have a private channel called #moderation-evidence, and the first day I joined I was told about 7 times to REMEMBER to file evidence. Moderator who took action, who the action was against, the time, the date, and screenshots, videos or logs proving this. Taking any action with no evidence is a capital offence basically lol. And if users wish to know why they were muted/banned, we show them the log. I’m not really one to abuse my power, but I know some tried, and got instantly shut down with this system.

All because of one moderator. But it's needed. Considering the controversy over the years in that sub-Reddit, a change is needed, but maybe a change of mindset too. This was bound to happen and thanks to big channels like you who pointed out the issue, it'll hopefully get that change. For better or for worst.
One moderator because it only takes one moderator. No way of knowing how many other moderators would have done the same thing.
If it were one moderator, that moderator would have been asked to step down. This is systemic.
Universal. It's not just one sub. It's the majority, if not all, of Reddit.
I will find that mod, and i will feed him so many eggs that he becomes a balloon and flies away into the vacuum of space.
It's hard to tell
Even if majority of the team genuinely cares, just one or two bad moderators can make the entire group look bad.
That's disgusting, I think the mods need to clean up their act or get changed. People like that shouldn't be in power.
This is exactly the reason I'm not using reddit anymore. That, and the fact that they've screwed up that API protest really hard
They absolutely deserve everything they're getting.

I stopped using reddit a long time ago. Although there's a lot of good on that site and I've personally seen many cool creations and good things happen, the bad actors in the community ultimately ruined the experience for me, and watching a situation like this unfold is what keeps me from coming back.
I genuinely feel so bad for B_freeoni and I hope wherever he is right now that thinks are going ok. If you ever read this or are someone in a similar situation reading this, I feel for you. Keep doing you.
I'm from Russia, so i never used Reddit, Twitter and Instagram in my entire life ( just cuz we have better alternatives ). Life is great, my dudes
No offense DLP but although user generated content on the alternatives you use may be great, I suspect those platforms to be full of governement propaganda
I have been utterly astounded at the level of degeneracy I have witnessed on that website. Yes it's not all bad, but there are communities on there that perfectly represent that part of the internet that makes you need eye bleach after seeing.
@@samsibbens8164 no offense, but the fact you said this proves that propaganda is everywhere (our is, btw, is proved being quite silly). You can't trust anyone now, so people just do their own research and make their own conclusion. I'm glad that you brought the issue the attention it deserves. But did they even remove the mod that caused this in the first place? That's making me iffy on if they'll actually change or not. I feel bad for what that poor guy had to go though in the first place, much less having a moderator say that to him.
Good news is, B_freeoni found r/PhoenixSC to put his memorial post in after that fiasco. As for the mod in question, we’ll just have to wait until everything clears up.
@@dfquartzidn6151 I'm glad that he has a place to put his memorial up, that's great news! And yeah, we'll have to see.
Considering that other similar posts have garnered the same mod response, I doubt this mod is being kicked out.
Either one mod is being an ass, and has been for a long time, therefore not being kicked out (since he would've been kicked out by now). Or it's multiple mods acting like this, meaning the enitre moderation team needs to be replaced.
@@jadecoolness101 Have they ever before suggested a user was milking the death of a loved one for meaningless internet points? Because I don't think they did. @@theblackwidower based on what I've seen, the other posts like this have gotten similarly heartless and cruel responses. I haven't personally seen "stop milking the death for karma" specifically, but the general vibe of "stop attention seeking" has been there in a LOT of these cases
Niarra and Brendan deserves so much better and the audacity for the r/Minecraft mods to only apologize after a popular youtubers such as Phoenix makes a video about it says how not sorry they are.

Honestly accusing of karma farming is kind of insensitive but they could have completely ignored this and could have said something like “i am so so sorry for your loss i hope you and her family members can get thru this. But unfortunately posting any form of memorials on this subreddit is a rule violation so i will remove this post soon. Again i am so sorry to hear about your loss i hope you’re all well and god bless”

Finally, a youtuber with a huge following who goes after a group and the youtuber legitimately wants them to chill.
Yes
I looked at the subreddit after seeing the previous video before they made the edit to add the name. Everyone in the replies were furious and calling them out for essentially side-stepping what happened by not directly apologizing to him by name. I guess the pressure had an effect.
Something that I noticed here is that, not only do these mods, maybe admins, and owners seem like they don’t care enough at first is that, this is probably the first time they’ve actually had to apologize publicly which is why they made mistakes.
Props to you getting the issue noticed, handling it professionally, and addressing your viewers to make sure they don't act on your behalf inappropriately. Hopefully it gets worked out soon as whoever that mod is needs sensitivity training at the least and maybe some time away from being a moderator to get their own issues worked out as no one says something as disgusting as that without having their own unresolved personal issues.
You're one of my favorite MC youtubers because of the short little experimental videos.
You Phoenix, have earned my subscription. Like, I'd been thinking about it for a while, but this finally tipped me in your favor. You call out the garbage but also encourage your community not to just pour gasoline on the fire, something I don't think enough content creators do.

"to show the community we really want to help."
"all confidential until its actually launched"
no, this shows nothing has changed. you want mc reddit to change? start with some transparency. you cant get good, working feedback about what you're considering changing without transparency.
This is why I prefer interacting with the community through youtube comments sections and on select creator's or dev's twitter accounts instead of entering the general community patforms. The minecraft community is just so widespread that you can't predict what kind of people are in or even manage these communities. All communities have bad eggs in them, made even more obvious when a community is so large such as that in minecraft and we really need to have more mature people behind those groups. So instead I prefer interacting with sub-communities where I know the people are far more palatable.
Well it is reddit. They're known for their edgy jokes, man just chose the wrong platform to be on. Not readying up for the killing blow on reddit is a mistake
It's a warm and cozy winter dumpster fire if you can handle the edgy reddit punches.
@@jamestedjo3736 As much as I'd like the agree to the sentiment of "well that's just the culture there" it's still an admin who did this, a person who is expected to be the most mature in the room and set things straight for everyone else. And it's not just a reddit community either but also it's tangentially a minecraft community too, a community of all age groups, yeah in reddit anyone can take the helm as admin but there should be some discussion by those in charge of that subreddit that they have to be mature enough to take the responsibility of ethically handling this large of a community.

I don’t have much hope for the mod team left, but lets wait and see how they do after their rework
It's reddit mods. They will always be a disgusting combination of Stalin's nkvd, child molesters, the SS and lizard people.
What rework? The rules were never the problem. You shouldn't have hope. Pressure them to be better, leave the subreddit or get used to this kind of bullshit, because they won't change out of the goodness of their heart if they weren't willing to kick the piece of shit that made the original post.
@@ekki1993 the rules were part of the problem. They follow them to strictly. Could be bad but could be good.
@@liamdutchstackr4828 Following a rule too strictly isn't a problem in the rules. It's a problem in the mods. And while changing the rules could be a step in the right direction, right now it's like trying to fix your stove while your house is burning.
@@ekki1993 rules, mods, it’s the same thing (in certain ways). Rules are made by the mods and I stated before that ‘they’ follow them to strictly. And the fire comparison is not that accurate since a fire spreads over the whole house while the mods don’t spread over the people. We just need to hope for the best. The bad mods getting fired. An actual sincere apology. And so much more
I think its already a very bad thing that they say all these revisions are not allowed to be shared until final. That's NOT how you work together with a community
The mods fell into the "apology trap". Writing an apology only publicizes it further, and chances are that nobody will think your apology is legitimate. Bending over to popular requests may sound good, but people now know that you easily respond to criticism. Not only that, they didn't even remove the moderator responsible; that's easy ammo for people who are criticizing you to use. The correct course of action would have been not making an apology, and also removing the moderator in charge. It would have blown over.

The subreddit needs a refresh on the moderators in general. A new set of staff (save the ones that actually value moderation over karma).

The minecraft subreddit shall be remebered forever as a case study of "How disconnected you can become to other people while being in direct contract with them constantly"
tbh, i think pheonix could be a pretty good mod for r/minecraft, he's pretty involved in minecraft news and seems like he would actually know what to do in situations like this
the fact that this is probably the 'official' subreddit, or at least the /r/url of being an official subreddit that most people will think of as the official subreddit, with this kind of moderation is absolutely wild. microsoft is a bajillion dollar corporation & this kind of stuff is a giant liability for them lmao.
I feel like you, Phoenix, hold a whole lot of power in the Minecraft community. I respect you a lot for making sure everyone knows you aren't trying to go to war against the r/Minecraft subreddit. I knew you weren't, but it's the Internet where people will interpret what they will. No anger/criticism towards anyone who thought otherwise originally, everyone's brains just work and think differently; that's why this clarification is so important.
2:15 maybe that will actually convince them to clean up and be better
“Am I out of touch?”
“No it’s the users who are wrong”
So the issue seems to be, the staff have had these sorts of issues for years, nothing has been done, and their solution is saying that its being fixed internally when clearly the entire system is rotten to its core
For me until there’s some actual change along side an apology, I’m just gonna treat that subreddit like it doesn’t exist. Also, in my personal opinion if it hasn’t happened already, whoever was involved with sending that disgusting response (not the apology) should be removed from the mod team immediately and permanently. But I also hope no one harasses anyone involved, that will only make things worse. If you truly care you will give your support, speak out if you want to, and that’s it. I just hope change actually happens. Even though I’m not an active part of that subreddit. Minecraft is still my favorite game of all time.
I would consider removing them too. A moderator talking to someone shouldn't be cold, unless the situation warrants it like a user disregarding the well-being of other users, and even then, something like *that* should *never* be said by a moderator in any situation.
The user in question was not endangering the well-being of other users, and yet the moderator went with an emotionally and mentally manipulative response. That kind of response could turn the user off trusting any moderators from now on
Why shouldn’t people “harass” them when they harassed that innocent guy for no reason. People should let them know about themselves. Not saying anything is the only thing that will make it worse because these douche bags will think they got away with it. They aren’t gonna fix anything or make any changes because they don’t care. Let them know they’re trash.
I am so sorry about all of this
