Wow Hainan Airlines looks very impressive. It's like a cheap business class! Amenity kit, hot towels, a menu with a wide range of choices! It looks amazing! No wonder it is in the top 10 airlines in the world!
The one thing I do like about the A330 is the 2 - 4 - 2 seating in economy, makes it really nice if you can grab a two seat. Amenity Kit, Menu's , that's a great economy service. Thanks for posting.
Air Asia and Cebu Pacifc run their A330s in 9 seats 3-3-3. Some airlines run their 9-seat planes in a 2-5-2 though. Theoretically a 747, 777, A350, or A380 could be run in a 2-6-2 setup on the main deck.
Hainan Airlines has to be one of my most memorable flight experiences, because the first time I flew with them to China, I won a 1:100 scale model of a 737 in Hainan livery :D
I first took Hainan Airlines from Mel to Beijing for return trips, costing me only $450 AUD, around $400 USD during 2017-2018 Christmas. I was a bit shock to see the menu onboard. It was like a business class menu and the food tasted so damn good. !! They have creamy mushroom spaghatti with turkey slices! Mouss cakes as a refreshment!
Me and my wife Visit China every summer, Hainan is by far the best Chinese airline! We try our best to always book with them. Unfortunatly leaving from the Americas is difficult on Chinese airlines currently. Hopefully in the future we will have more flights!
Great work Felix, not a lot of Hainan Airlines trip reports on here. Product looks pretty good for economy, similar to standards Iv`e had with Emirates, even the amenity kit. Good to see Hainan introducing a new service to Edinburgh from June 2018. If I head back to Korea soon, I think I will skip the Middle East and go via Beijing, a few days there then head to Seoul. New airline for me as well as a new country. I always find your work informative and interesting, thanks.

I grew up in Haikou, the capital of Hainan Island in the south China Sea (lived in China for about 12 years). Our apartment was maybe a mile away from the big central road in the city which was also the old runway for the old Daiyangshan airport before they built Meilan International outside the city. The original (and still used) headquarters for Hainan Air is still on that road although the majority of the airline is now run out of Beijing. While I never flew "international" (a few trips to Hong Kong on Hong Kong Air. Part of the Hainan Air Group) and never long haul, they were my go to airline for domestic flights inside the country. Nice staff, at least one cabin crew member is required to be able to be conversational in English should a "Westerner" (like me or my father who also flew with them alot) happens to be on board, even on domestic routes. They usually have china daily newspapers printed in English. And just overall better service than the other Chinese airlines. I'll always love this airline, even though I'll probably never fly on them again sadly. Edit: the building on the magazine cover at 4:16 mark is the building I'm talking about!!! That's the Hainan Air headquarters in Haikou. Second edit, I lived over there from 2001-2013. During those years Hainan really was ahead of it's time and set the standard for what most Chinese airlines now offer as standard.

Very cool Prague airport. Huge. I like the maroon interior of Hainan Airlines. Slow IFE but with a good selection. NIce first meal with veggies and rice. Hated that the inflight magazine was all in Mandarin. Pfffft. Nice sunrises 14:04 and 14:56. Pork for breakfast? Umm...okay. It's China. The rest of it was more breakfasty hehe. Smooth landing in Beijing. Nice report.
I'm very curious about your Xiamen Air video as I've flown them last year and was very pleasantly surprised Hainan definitely looks very teasing and I hope to give them a try soon
The product looks similar (almost identical in some areas) to the British Airways premium economy onboard the A380 but in different colours and better looking food, for economy it looks brilliant. Great review as always.

Last time i was on a connecting flight from beijing to guangzhou and there were like 2 cabin crew standing at the door welcoming me.(economy class) I think Hainan 100% stands out from all chinese airlines. especially when you consider the price.

I’m flying Hainan on the SYD - PEK route (with a couple of stops along the way, but the price was just too good). Never flown with them before, looks decent.
took a Hainan charter flight from Chongqing to Manchester in September 2020. They didn't give amenity kits but the only flight I've ever taken that's more comfortable is the Etihad A380.
We have no flights booked with these airlines yet...maybe soon though! :D A list of airlines we are going to travel with and the upcoming destinations can be found here: www.simply-aviation.com/airlines/
Great video. As a frequent traveller to Beijing, its too bad that you didn't use the new terminal 3. It's quite impressive. Although, PEK is a pretty inefficient airport. I have found some cheap business class tickets on Hainan and might fly with them. This gave me a bit of an idea on what to look for. Thanks for another great video!
Have you experienced the new terminal in CAN already? It makes BJS feel like traveling back to the last century again. Little robots assist with boarding pass printing, luggage tagging etc. My favorite airport.

A congee with pork is very typical Chinese breakfast, but I wouldn't recommend anyone who is not used to its test to order it on a flight. I have never come cross any westerners who actually liked it. Having aviation breakfast on a Chinese carrier, western option is definitely the one to go for anyone from non-Chinese background.

+isaacflyaway I usually get on every flight in China 2-3 "strikes" means that I have to stop filming because it's not allowed during taxi, takeoff and landing. ;) Also you're not allowed like on every Chinese Airlines to use your phones or charge electronics during the flight, use of Powerbanks is strictly forbidden.
Simply Aviation Wait really? I flew China Eastern ORD-PVG and they allowed use of phones (in airplane mode) and I brought a power bank aboard and used it.
This restriction has been lifted off since Jan 2018 in all major Chinese carriers. Mobile phones in flight mode are allowed to use during the whole flight. And Hainan Airlines is the first airline to benefit from the deregulation in China. Feel free to film some videos if you fly with Chinese carriers next time :D

I've only gotten amenity kits and menus once while sitting in economy class. Was on a Qatar A300 between FRA and DOH in 2004.

I think they personalise each route. Even the menu had "Prague - Beijing" written on the front.

Try XiamenAir, just flew them SEA-SZX, comfy seats, power ports, OK IFE, excellent food and the crew were amazing!
