From a 1984 movie "Against All Odds" starring Jeff Bridges and Rachel Ward. Awesome.
I was coming here to say this too.
Wasn’t Michael Douglas in this?
@@goosebump801Jeff Bridges was the main male character in the movie.
@@SarahKing-qu6di Okay, thanks - I never saw it, was relying on my (unreliable 🤦♀️) memory
Thank you! 😂 I saw it in the theatre and was ugly crying.
Phil Collins owned a chunk of the 80's
The studio version of this, is one of the most beautiful songs from the 80s
yes, the studio version!... not this version.
The film "Against All Odds" is best remembered for the inclusion of the title song, which gave Phil his first solo number 1 hit on the Billboard charts, and earned him the Grammy for best male pop vocal performance in 1985.
In a 2007 story on the National Public Radio show This American Life, Phil Collins explained how he did not write songs with Genesis, but was motivated to write solo material to deal with the pain of his personal life. Said Collins: "That song was written during my first divorce. My first wife and the kids had gone and I was left there. The song was written out of experience as opposed to a 'what if' song. If that personal stuff had not happened to me at the time, I probably would never have made an album, and if I was to have made an album eventually, it probably would have been a jazz/rock thing. Without that stuff I wouldn't have felt the stuff I felt sitting at a piano night after night, day after day writing stuff." Peace out.
Thanks for the info. Phil is my favorite artist. So glad I got to see him with Genesis a few times.
One of the most beautiful songs ever performed.
Phil Collins went on his final world tour with his band, Genesis, a few years ago. I saw the band at Madison Square Garden in Dec 2021.
Poor Phil Collins....since the Genesis Tour in 2007, he's experienced a variety of neck and spinal issues, as well as complications from many surgeries. He now walks with a cane and can no longer play the drums. For the final Genesis tour, he performed on stage while sitting in a chair. His son, Nic Collins, took over the drumming.
To be honest, the show was AMAZING! Phil's voice was still powerful and wonderful.
While he has said he will not tour with Genesis again, he has not ruled out going on another, more relaxed and personal, solo tour. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!! 😊
Yes, sir! He is a great singer, a great drummer, and an amazing songwriter!
Love and respect
Phil Collins/Genesis - Follow You Follow Me - Mama - Misunderstanding - Can't Hurry Love - Come with Me - Do You Remember - Don't Lose my Number - Easy Lover - Another Day in Paradise

Phil is the best!
PHIL COLLINS "SEPARATE LIVES" Duet with Marilyn Martin is a BEAUTIFUL song!! 💜💜💜
That song has Sooo much passion, sorrow, vulnerability etc
‘You have no right….’
@@marsanchez2500 I could listen to it on repeat for hours! 💜💜💜
@@trunktrollz Now I HAVE to listen to it RIGHT NOW! 😊💜💜💜
The live version from this very concert is far superior. Give it a listen/watch. 👍🥂
While he performed during his career, he was so popular, so powerful just so damn good .
This is sooo 80"s. Power ballads galore and this was one that just got to me in the day. 😍 Where has all the romance gone?
Phil Collins I don't care anymore, is a must listen.
I love Phil Collins, and he sounds great live which I can't say many do. Makes me sad that he has so much pain in his body, wish it could be corrected. Thank you BP👍❤️
I'm one of the most emotional men alive. But my wife appreciates it and sees my vulnerability as strength. I'm very lucky (47).
Yes you are so don't ever take her for granted. ❤
My respect for that. My husband is too 😊
I wish the emotional man that I love knew that I would appreciate it too. Your wife is also very lucky.
I'm the same. I'm an ex football player in college 6'1 280 and peare scared of me but I'm polite and friendly until someone pokes me. Lol
This is actually the theme song for the movie Against All Odds
The great Leland Sklar on bass!
yes!!
Now, that's someone who's had an interesting career!
@@laurathornton1456oh yes he’s been on stage with the best of the best as he is
Most people have forgotten I Wish it Would Rain with Clapton video…mmmmm sooooo Phil Collins and Clapton!
I love this man Phil Collins - his music never misses! 🔥
This is one of my all time favourite songs! Phil Collins is amazing and I also miss all the romance from back then!
Phil Collins was my first ever cassette tape I bought back in the late 80s ❤
If u want to see a whole other side to him, check out Land of Confusion!! It's one of my favorite songs by Genesis, and the video is crazy!!
I was gonna suggest that too. I love the video! It's also got an important message that you just won't understand unless you were there at the time.
I think I've said this so excuse me if i am repeating myself.
Phil Collins was a great live performer and was the only artist who sang in the UK and Philadelphia stadiums for Live Aid. He sang one 20 minute set, jumped on a plane, and then sang another 20 minute set. I remember that as being incredibly cool.
He jumped on the CONCORDE to be specific. No longer in flight it was the fastest passenger plane w/only 3 in existence at the time. I believe it flew across the Atlantic from London to NYC in about 2 hours. Amazing plane.
@@katscully wasn't that a really cool?! We were celebrating my 26th birthday that weekend. BBQ and Live Aid. I got engaged the next weekend too. Yes, we're still together. Seems like yesterday!
@@karensilvera6694 it was indeed! Beautiful story of yours. Congrats & to better days like those.🥂
Being able to Perform in front of a crowd that size is a skill and talent all by itself.
You can't go wrong with Phil Collins!!! And Black Pegasus, we can't go wrong with you! You do an excellent job! And the pics of your new little baby girl is so precious! Eat up every minute you have with her!!!
Here for my Phil fill
I wish he still did concerts, he is in his early 70’s now, and has had a couple of back surgeries……..
phenomenal singer/ songwriter … drummer.
"health issues began in 2007 when he dislocated vertebrae in his neck during a Genesis reunion tour. The injury caused lasting nerve damage, ultimately forcing Phil to give up drumming. “After playing drums for 50 years, I’ve had to stop,” he wrote in 2009, per Daily Mail. “My vertebrae have been crushing my spinal cord because of the position I drum in""
His son Nick has been drumming for him for a while now as well as for Genesis shows.
He started performing for Phil when he was like 16-17 and is amazing and down to earth and humble. He has some videos on Drumeo and they are great.
Cried many teen tears to this!😂🥺♥️
If you have seen the movie, the meaning of this song is crystal clear. It fits beautifully with the plot. Great movie and song. This is my first time hearing this song live and his voice is amazing.
I love it when reactors essentially say I was born in the wrong era. That's when you know they are truly feeling and understanding music from the 80's and 90's. I'm too young for the 70's 🙂 but great songs there too.
What still shocks me is that his daughter is a very successful actress and most people do not connect them.
She’s great!! Bono’s daughter is, too! She was in a Netflix movie(or series)can’t remember 🫣 Love City of Bones!
I know! She's wonderful!
Yes, he should be on the drums. He Is ONE OF RHE BEST
Stepped out from being a drummer fir Genesis when Peter Gabriel was singer and front man ,then Phil Collins took lead when Gabriel left...
Lily Collens played as Ted Bundys girlfriend on the Netfix movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. Metallica singer James Hetfield played the Utah highway patrol officer who first arrested him.
You HAVE to watch Let it Rain with Phil and Eric Clapton.
YES!
Love Phil Collins he’s One of the greatest vocalist I’ve heard very unique voice you have to react to his song I wish it would rain down the video version features Eric Clapton playing guitar
best Phil Collins song for me
"Against All Odds" was created explicitly for the movie of the same name, although it was based on an earlier unreleased song Collins had written in 1981.
My favorite Phil Collins song to date
At 44, I just began learning the piano. This is the only song I know how to play so far and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
You should also listen to his other soundtrack song from 1985, "Separate Lives", a duet with the singer Marilyn Martin, which featured on the soundtrack to the film "White Nights". It's a wonderful song. 😊
Yes separate lives and wish it would rain down our phenomenal songs with amazing vocals
Phill Collins is a great artist. He's in his 70's now and has a bad spine. Read somewhere he's in a lot of pain every day, which sad to hear. So unfortunately no more live gigs.
Yeah, he did the Big Interview awhile back and explained that he never sat right while playing the drums and he screwed up his back. Chronic pain is no joke!
From this same concert , Phils duet w/back up singer on “SEPARATE LIVES” is phenomenal performance. 👍🥂
one of my favorite songs!
This is a song by English drummer, singer and songwriter Phil Collins. It was recorded for the soundtrack to the 1984 film of the same name.
Phil Collins did not want to be the singer. He wanted to be the drummer, which for him was the most respectable part of the group. 'I've always felt the singer was the cheapest gig in the band, 'cause all they had to do was look good and wiggle their bum,' Phil said.
Phil is one of them best of all time
I fell in love with this song when I was a 15 yo teenager because the lyrics resonated with me on so many levels. I identified them with the sense of loss and hopelessness that a teenage boy without a father in his broken home feels. I also related them to a sense of being disconnected from, and my true self being unseen by, those around me and the world in general. My life experience has only enriched and deepened my profound personal connection to the song; Hence, it has been my LITERAL favorite song for nearly 40 years. "Against All Odds" has been an integral part of the soundtrack of my life: My cathartic hymn of spiritual lamentation for the loss of what was and/or what could have been in so many parts of my life's journey. Thanks for the great reaction, B.P.! Cheers!
I'm glad you persevered against the odds. Not very many do. Peace and blessings. ✌️🙏
So eloquently put. It’s amazing how certain songs follow us throughout our lives. Much love from 🇨🇦❤.
@@MamaJewels99 "Ura" ("thank you") for taking the time to share such kind thoughts. 🤝 Much affection from this nʉmʉnʉʉ (person) of the Comanche Nation of Oklahoma , United States of America. 💯
Phil Collins was the second lead singer of Genesis, but most people forget about the Peter Gabriel era. I would highly recommend Collin's Genesis song "No Son of Mine." "Supper's Ready" is listed as the best song of the Gabriel era.
Phil Collins never disappoints 💪♥️
Gotta do Mama, by Phil Collins. Very underrated...
It's actually a Genesis song , when he was the drummer/ lead vocal
Phil and I were due to be married years ago... I'm sure it would have gone ahead, if only he'd known 🤪😝😝
I saw him at Wembley arena in the 80's... Brilliant 😍
Made me cry listening to this beautiful song.
Listen to another tearjerker by Genesis,a little known gem called Open Door!😭
This song is from the Movie, Against all Odds. Fire movie, fire song!❤
Phil can just breathe out those perfect friggin notes...just beautiful...beautiful :)
check out his sng "Sussidio"...yes, he is impeccable
Brightley beautiful name 💡 let that light shine
After a really rough break up with my ex fiance I played this on repeat and just cried.it helped me heal and move on...Phil Collins is my go to whenever I'm sad,his voice soothes me and his lyrics speak to my heart.thanks for checking him out again.🎶❤✌
His great drum roll is in this, too. Gotta love Phil's singing, drumming, piano, and writing. He's incredible. He has had nothing but heart break. A lot of bad marriages.
Great tune! It was on a soundtrack from an 80's movie of the same name I think! People lying on a beach comes to mind! 😅
I still love Romantic songs ❤
This performance was his second of the day! It was for Live Aid. Phil performed at Wembley stadium in London & then hopped on the Concord for a flight to the US so he could perform in Philadelphia for the crowd there that night! Gave excellent performances on both stages & also filled in on drums for a few other bands. Love his voice & he sings with such heartfelt emotion. He was such a great songwriter among his many talents. ❤❤❤
This is not from Live Aid. This is from his July 1990 performance in Berlin, on his Serious Tour.
@MoonlightDagger Whoops, you are correct! I goofed 🤦♂️
Thanks!
Currently, McCartney, Jackson and Collins are the only three artists to have earned this title, to have secured 100 million record sales in a collaborative project and in their solo, yet Phil Collins is not in the rock and roll hall of fame for a sole artist
Against all Odds is also a 1984 movie starring Jeff Bridges.
Yeah, brother, he is one of the greats!
Love me some Phil Collins!! Paradise is a great one!!
Sadly, I think during a concert in I think 2011 he broke a vertebrae in his neck while playing the drums. It messed up one of his arms and hand so he's not able to play anymore. The he was diagnosed with diabetes and his health has gone downhill. I saw a clip yesterday and he was on stage and announced that it was the last concert for Genesis. (This was in 2022) He is unrecognizable to the Phil we're used to seeing. He looks like he's 90 years old instead of his early 70s. It made me cry actually, because you know he's suffered from his health issues! I'll always love him though for all his talent as a songwriter, musician and performer! He wrote this song and a few others when his wife left him. ( I think for another man) What a talent to be able to write your heartbreak into words in a song! His songs express how you feel when you're going through it. His songs got me through a lot of emotions in my 20s and 30s. Both sad and Happy times. Thank you Phil, your music will never have an expectation date, because it's Timeless! ❤️❤️
I'm a Boomer and I believe we had some of the best music, ever made. From the '50s to this very day.
This song was written as the title track of the movie Against All Odds, Phil did other soundtracks as well. Check out "You'll be in my heart" which he wrote for the Disney movie Tarzan.
can you imagine getting hired to be Phils Drummer. That pressure must be insane compared to anyone else in the band playing his songs.
He wrote this as the title track for the movie Against All Odds.
He started off as the drummer for the band Genesis. Peter Gabriel left the band, and Phil took over as the lead singer. He continued making platinum albums both with Genesis AND solo.
Another piece of trivia: He's the first artist to EVER play two continents in one day. At Live Aid in 1985, he played a set at Wembley stadium in England, then flew to America on the Concord to play a set here. (The Live Aid concert was being done from two venues, alternating stages, then simulcast on the radio and TV around the world.)
Beautiful song, thank you
I was so fortunate to be in high school during this period with Great Artist like Phil Collins. So many awesome songs....
More Phil please❤
This song is my favorite of his but, he cannot make a bad song.
The man can sing, play the drums and certainly write amazing songs..
Take me Home live in Paris...
You wont regret it, it's got everything that is Phil Collins IMO
Hello, young one, welcome to the world of the greatest music ever written, produced and performed. Hope you continue to share it with the other young one. You’re priceless!
SUSUSSUDIO is a must see. Great performance by Phil. The official video is the best! You'll see him dancing some!!😁🔥❤️
oh man...YES!!!!
lfg phil collins for the win every time
His dad left the family when he was young. On the Air tonight was about meeting his dad for the first time in his memory. Against all odds was about the love of his life.
I love Phil Collins! I saw him in concert when he was with Genesis. So talented. Great song writer, plays drums, amazing performer. Just a great talent. Unfortunately, he has back issues because of years of drumming. He’s retired from performing. I wish him the best!
Phil Collins @ The Live Aid concert , check out that performance - he sang this- live and playing piano- in front of millions of people there and all over the world , watching the Live Aid concert in Wembly stadium in England- he really knocked this song out straight out to the universe!
Love Phil
Incredible song and also a really good movie. Phil was one of the biggest artists in the 80's/early 90's both as a solo artist and with Genesis. He could do no wrong. Everything he put out was a hit, or so it seemed. The guy has so much talent.
Phil is great in concert - fantastic love and quite funny. When I saw him, his son had just started drumming for him on the tour.
Ive been a fan of Phils since the 70s Genesis, when I got to see him live in the 90s, after having heard this song countess times, his heartfelt rendition still brought me to tears. He was soooo good.
Baby you better preach it!!! Phil is the man!!!!
Phil Collins was an amazing singer, songwriter, drummer, entertainer, & just all-round wonderful human. Unfortunately, like you BP, I was never able to catch him in concert before painful injuries made him retire several years ago. That final performance was done sitting down & he has a cane to help him walk. You could tell it was killing him emotionally to give that up. Even retired, he has a loyal fan base he stays in touch with via social media. Nobody like him. As a Texan, I'm still hoping to go back to the Alamo & see his collection of Alamo items he'd collected since childhood and donated to the Alamo a few years back. He's left such a legacy to his fans.
Against all odds is one of my favorite songs!! Phil Collins is super talented.
Phil Collins is a SUPERSTAR FOREVER !! Thank you BP for taking me back into this emotional music which has touched so many people over many years. I agree with you about today's generation not being truly connected to what is important. Their WHOLE lives have been hijacked by tehnology. They think THAT is a relationship, and miss out on the human personal bonding which is the only way that real romance can occur. Hopefully, they are just SO young that in time they will gain a more realistic concept of what's important mainly, faith, family, purpose, and love . And from artists like our dear Phil, we understand that deep feelings are real- sometimes painful, sometimes beautiful- and it is o.k, to express them. Feeling loss does not mean you are weak, it means you are human and it is understood by everyone who allows themselves to feel vulnerable. I wish for everyone to know true Love. 🤗❣
hes so good
If you really want to go down the rabbit hole with Phil Collins, he is a huge Texas/Alamo historian. He has one of the largest collections of Texas war and Alamo memorabilia that he has chosen to donate to the state upon his death, but he constantly gives donations. He loves Texas. We have made him an honorary Texan.
Great reaction. Sad to say that Phil Collins already has retired. He loved the stage, the audience and just making good music. That's all over now.
I am also 44 and grew up with Phils Music from the 80ies. My first album was ...but seriously, that resulted in this concert. This was filmed in Berlin in 1990. The Serious Tour was one off his biggest successful tours in his solo carrer and they played 128 shows all over the world. For me this whole concert is just awesome and on his peak of his career.
Another very good songs from this album are 'Do you remember' and 'I wish it would rain down'. But there is so much more to explore. Especially as a drummer he is (was) a beast.
Have you ever heard of his famous drum duets with him and Chester Thompson? Definitely a must see!
Greetings from Germany
✌🏼😎
Been trying to get reactors to do the Chester/Phil duet from the Invisible Touch Tour at Wembley from 1987 i believe. Greatest drumming ever. 👍🥂
@@katscully You're damn right, but including 'Los Endos'...
Greetings from Germany ✌🏼 😎
He could also play every instrument in that band y'all!!!!!!
MORE Phil! Yes!!! This performance is from Berlin 1990. Great concert.
Later in the night he covers Steven Bishop's 'Separate Lives', singing a duet with Bridgette Bryant. It is HOT. The look she gives him. sheez. Love it.
When I was a teenager everytime this song came on the radio or in video on MTV I would sing along and cry.
Amazing! So sad he can’t perform anymore. One of the greats! ❤️
I LOVE this song!
June 6, 1980, my best friend in college died in a car accident graduation night. I think of her when I hear this song. She knew me better than I knew myself. I hope to God she'll be there to greet me when I go to the other side. RIP Julie Leisinger. 😢😊
Can’t hear this song and not cry, but I still love it. The lyrics, delivery; brings me to a time in my life. Must say this is a case where the studio version is better, IMO. Next MUST HEAR Phil Collins song: “I DON’T CARE ANYMORE” 🔥🔥🔥😢
Here for my Phil!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I know he’s in the RRHOF with Genesis but dang it, he should be there on his own too! I mean…before he’s gone.
Phil never wanted to be front and center. He’s a natural, so it had to be. ❤️ Phil since he was drummer for Genesis.
Phil Collins has many great songs, I'm pretty sure that he wrote this as a title track of a movie.....keep checking, he's a great singer and song writer...both in his successful career as lead singer and drummer when warranted and in his also successful solo career!!
Love this song and loved the movie. Peace out ✌️ ☮️
Its so awesome to see younger individuals finally get what us Gen x-ers say that we grew up with the best music. Live back in the day was an event and actually live. He also had a suit on.❤❤❤
He will be touring with his old group Genesis 2024
1984 Against All Odds was a movie that came out as well
Look up his Bio (written by him) called Not Dead Yet - if you love him now, you'll really love him more in that book. Phil Collins is a treasure! Phil Collins is retired and not in the best of health anymore sadly. Also - I hope your wife and new baby are doing well, sending love and hugs to your lovely little family!
