Thank you!! This video was so helpful. I just finished fixing my broken washer! You turned a $100+ repair into $3.99 and taught me a skill. This was an excellent instructional video!
Thank you!!! A repair company was going to charge $400 for parts and labor, but after watching your video, I fixed it myself for a whopping $20!!! Thank you so much!!!
This video was great. I am a 63-year-old woman who does not have any one to fix things so I’m going to do it myself. After watching this video I know I can do it! Thank you very much!
Thank you! I'm beginning to feel like a washing machine repairman. My whirlpool is old, I think it's a 2005 model, and I have replaced the water pump, the clutch, and today the agitator dogs, all thanks to youtubers like you!
Glad I could help you, and nice work on those earlier repairs! It may seem intimidating at first, but with some help, in person or not, it makes things much easier! :D
Also, it may seem like some old appliances may be "money pits" with repairs. But just when you get a new appliance, it may also become a new money pit, and to boot, they may be more complicated! So, it's all a matter of trying to figure out which pit to throw your money into! 😂😂😂😂😂🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Thank you for this video, my wife and I just recently moved into an apartment with a squeaky washer and after watching your video our problems are fixed! Didn't have to schedule a maintenance call or anything (that may had never come)
Thank you so much. I have never watched a clearer tutorial. I shudder to imagine what a repair service would have charged for the $5.99 agitator dogs my Amazon points paid for. You're the best. PS: I'm 70 (F). My husband didn't even question me when I asked if he had a longer ratchet extension than my set had. 😂 😂😂😂😂
I watched several videos on how to do this exact same thing, and this video was hands down the best. I really appreciate how things were shown close up and explained in detail. I'm someone who doesn't know anything about repairing anything, but I don't have any more questions after watching this video. Thank you!
Sharkie626 I just completed this repair tonight and I can say in all honesty that it was the easiest repair I've ever done, with no frustration or cursing involved, because I understood everything clearly. The hardest part of it was finding the parts I needed. Thanks so much!
Thanks. 1. No problem at all, got it done in 10 minutes. 2. I used my socket wrench, but I had to buy a 10-inch extension for it. An extra $7.00, but who cares. 3. The parts store down the street from my office had the agitator dogs. Supco part No. LP338, $5.00. 4. On my machine, the 7/16 inch bolt has a rubber gasket. Be sure to look out for it while unscrewing the bolt, and be sure to put it back.
we replaced the agitator dogs in our 90's Kenmore washer back in August 2015. Super easy fix, RepairClinic is a great site, and no expensive service call. our Kenmore is 26 years old, Long Live classic washers.
We were able to repair the 20+ year old, but otherwise working well, washing machine for just $8. You explained every step that was necessary for the repair and we thank you so much!
Thanks Sharkie! I'm a skilled aircraft and automotive mechanic but am always intimidated by appliances. I noticed my agitator was spinning freely so I asked my local appliance repair shop about it. They sold me a set of dogs for $5. Still scratching my head about how to replace them I found your video and followed it step-by-step. Bingo! Its fixed and I'm doing a load of laundry as I type this. Funny part is that my fiancé said "why don't you just buy a new one"! With your help I'm back in business for less than 1% of a new machine!!! Thanks again
Isn't it amazing how we can know our way around something bigger and more complex, and when we get to something smaller, one can be like “huh?” Haha. But anyway that’s great! Make sure both you and your fiancé never get rid of that machine, can’t get them like that today. Great that you’re back up and running, and glad my video helped you! :D
Thanks to your excellent tutorial, I not only successfully replaced the dog agits on my washer, but also saved myself some money and 4 hours of my time that would have been spent waiting for a repairman. It was as easy as described in your video, and the paper towel trick for the bolt was very helpful!
This video was great!! Exactly what I needed. Clear and concise description. Easy to follow all the way, even where to purchase the "dogs". I actually think I can do this. No expensive labor cost! So this week I can afford gas!
Thank you again. The agitator dogs went just as described in your video, I gave up on the timer, put the wiring harness back on, etc. Now the timer works again!!! Yay! :)
Thank you for this video! Exact same type of agitator my washer has. I have actually paid over $100 in the past to fix the very same issue. You're a lifesaver.
Awesome video sharky, you've got a gift! I have a Whirlpool wtw5300 and the bottom half of the agitator is fine but the top spins either way easily. With your great instruction, it was easy to take apart, my dogs are not broken, it's all relatively clean, they have teeth but there's nothing to apply tension to make them engage with the outer ring teeth. I flipped the dogs over actually and they have too much tension, it accomplishes what I want, the top agitator only moves In One direction but it has and annoying ratchet sound as the what is now probably over tensioned teeth slide across one another. Could it be that my dogs are worn out at the hinge point where the lobe of each dog drops down into? I presumed that to be the case and ordered not just new dogs but also the plastic ring that holds them, was just hoping for confirmation as I await the parts LOL
My Whirlpool agitator is a little different (for the Ultimate Care II Imperial Series, the dogs were part# 3366877) but the basic removal steps are the same. Thanks for taking the time to post this video, you did a great job, it was very clear and easy to follow. Thanks so much!!
Hi. Thank you very much for the fantastic video!! It saved me much agony. For others needing this type of repair, I suggest you do that last load to hold you over, and then take it apart to see which parts your particular model needs. My Whirlpool didn't have a thrust washer, it has a "short" cam (as in the video I think), and it had a yellow plastic "bearing" ("retainer" that also supports the dogs) instead of the black one in the video. I ordered this: "Ultra Durable 285809 Short Cam Agitator Repair Kit by Blue Stars - Exact Fit for Whirlpool & Maytag…" - it was a few bucks less than the others and it was exactly the kit I needed, as the yellow "bearing" was torn-up also. Easy-piezy. Thanks again!! :)
You are welcome! I have indeed seen the shorter/smaller cams. I think this type is still more common, and procedure for the smaller ones is near identical. I have a friend in Florida who has the other type, and the video was still able to help him!
I'm 52 year old woman who just fixed the used washer I bought to replace the awful front loader we've had for 20 years. It cost me $6! My husband wouldn't listen when I told him it wasn't working right, so I took care of it myself & it's working perfectly!
Thank you for the detailed step by step. You made it look so easy. You saved me a few hundred dollars because I thought I going to have to buy a new washer.
Thank you for this video! I have slightly different type of agitator, but I did it. Just $3 for dogs instead of $100 for calling technician. You're the best!
Thanks for the video. At the beginning, I don't want to mess with it since it is still "working". After I saw your video, I decided to change it. Thanks again for the excellent video.
I’ve done this many times as a maintenance tech. But I just ran into my first one without a retainer ring. Thanks for that tip (I shoulda figured that out myself) 😎 Excellent video!
I really appreciate your video. It helped me save a lot of time and money. It was very clear and took me step by step through the process. I got it done thanks to you and I'm "just a girl" Thanks, I appreciate you taking the time to film this!
Thank you! we had some paper disintegrate in the washer and I thought, let's take the agitator off and see what is what. This was the best how that I looked at. It was a real chore taking this thing apart - things were stuck pretty good. Turns out the dogs are worn, but I never knew the agitator wasn't working. But the real problem was all the black mold that was on the internal parts. We spent a good amount of time cleaning that all off. I ordered a kit for my WTW5200VQ2 an when it arrives, it will be much easier to replace the dogs.
Thank you so much for this video. I watched 4 others. They all pretty much skipped the putting back together piece. Your was not only there, but it was detailed and you provided a couple of tricks to make it easier. Thanks again.
This is a great video to replace the agitator dogs which have gone out on my washer. Unfortunately the timer has gone out as well. Do you have a video about replacing a timer on this model? I'm having trouble with it.
That's true, it's a good time to do that as well. We've never used softener on the washer before, only the dryer sheets. Every occasion I would run hot water through it, just to keep it clean.
I think the worn dogs keep the fabric dispenser from reaching top speed during spin and the dispenser workings are never spun "dry" of fabric softener, so it builds up. LOL... She likes to use dryer sheets, I like to use softener!
Oh I tell ya. Even when working correctly, it still loves to build up! Probably the best thing to do is, if there will be a load where it won't be used, use hot water with it like before. It can really help keep it clean.
Love all these videos where everything works with no problems. Took the top off of agitator and the inside was filthy with grim and and I don't know what else but I could not remove the inside bolt. Was not rusted that I could see but can't get it out. Finally got the bolt out but was a big pain. Sprayed with WD-40 and soaked for several hours. After taking apart all the dogs were all melted and disintegrated, not sure how long it was busted. New parts come in later this week. Hope this will fix it.
The dogs needed replacing but looks like my motor coupler will also need to be replaced, luckily I went ahead and ordered the coupler. I have the part but will wait till tomorrow to fix. Somehow I knew it wouldn't be as simple as it is shown in video but I was smart and ordered the coupler just in case.
Thank you so much for your wonderful video, which is so clear. Would you have a suggestion for how to deal with a 7/16 bolt that is so corroded that there is really no head on it? How do I get that sucker out of there? Please let me know and thank you so much!!
This video is a great help! Thank you. My top agitator is spinning freely so I definitely need to replace the dogs but I'm worried the bottom agitator may need some kind of repair too. How much should it be spinning? Should there be resistance? I bought it used a few years ago so I don't know the ideal performance
I DID IT I DID IT I Fixed my agitator!!!!! Some things I encountered that I think are funny and unique to my situation. As a woman of smaller build, I wasn't able to simply hold the bottom of the agitator while getting the bolt to turn. I'm not that strong and it was in there TIGHT. So, I had to sit on top of the machine with my feet in the drum and hold the bottom of the agitator still with my feet while using two hands to loosen the nut. The other thing was that I have no tools other than what was in this old house when I bought it. I sorted through piles and piles of miscellaneous tool parts before I found something long enough and of the right size to reach down into the agitator. It was a flimsy little thing from some torn-up, half missing, rusty and flimsy little set (maybe to repair bikes or something?) and I broke the EFFF outta it and had to Frankenstein some other pieces together to screw the nut back in when I was reassembling. STILL though, it worked and I can now wash clothes without using my hands to move the clothes around. Ahhhhh the luxurious life. I have a load of clothes in there now..... getting all agitated and shit. thanks for the great video!
Trying to clean up a second hand washer - many thanks for the tutorial on how to remove the agitator and dogs! When I got underneath the agitator (which I wanted to remove to be able to repaint the drum) it was a mess! That little cap that's supposed to prevent water from going into everything wasn't clipped in place - so there was gunk everywhere. I've since washed everything to a nice sparkling white on the agitator - but the base of the center post was horribly dirty - and I wanted to know once I remove the agitator - those 4 holes where I can see gear teeth at the bottom - can I get that wet? Took a photo - but there doesn't seem to be a place to attach it....
You should be okay. The best way to keep a machine clean is to use powdered detergent and warm or hot washes when you can. If you need to wash anything in cold, do that first, and then wash the others.
THANK U SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO! I WATCHED A FEW OTHERS BEFORE WATCHING YOURS, AND U EXPLAIN AND SHOW IT ALL SO MUCH BETTER THAN OTHER PEOPLE DO!!! THANX! I NOW KNOW FOR SURE, THAT IT IS THE WASHER DOGS THAT NEED REPLACED, AND I FEEL CONFIDENT I CAN DO IT!!! THANX SO MUCH!!! I'M GONNA SUBSCRIBE TO U. EITHER I, OR SOMEONE I KNOW, MIGHT NEED YOUR KNOWLEDGE IN THE FUTURE!!!
@@Sharkie626: Hi. I did it! With the help of your video, I replaced the agitator dogs and the washer is agitating perfectly!!! Thanx for your help! The washer has another problem, too, that I'm wondering if u know what might be wrong. It doesn't fill up with water as high as it used to, and I always have to add about six gallons. Any ideas? Candy
@@eyesopen5644 Awesome! Glad it's all working again! In terms of the water level, there may be an adjustment screw on the back of the water level selector. Try turning it clockwise (in) some. Don't turn it too much though! Go 1/4 of a turn at a time, and check it each time.
@@Sharkie626 : Ok. I'll try that. When u say water level selector, do u mean the knob on the front panel of the washer, for choosing small, medium, or large loads?
I'm getting a bit if up & down play on the top piece. I see there's a plastic flat ring sitting on top of the bottom part and wondering if it might be worn. The dogs look ok and appear to be slightly skipping on account of this play. Any thoughts?
very understandable presentation..thank you very much.i had one more part that fits inside lower part of agitator to help guide top part.. very easy to follow your guidance...
Great video. I've done this procedure in the past. I have this exact machine. Now my problem is, I can't get the drive block off, after removing the tub nut. I am going to replace the snubber pads and while I've got it torn apart, I may as well replace the suspension spring and the agitator dogs. There are few videos showing how to remove the tub on this old machine when it's stuck. Anyone?
Have you ever had agitator get stuck? I removed the bolt in my maytag commercial technology top loading washer and now I have the bolt out and I have pulled pushed pryed and it won't come off I have tried to find tabs line stuff up shoe string to aracket straps nothing works!
Thanks for this video. My bottom half of my agitator seems to only rotate in one direction. When you turn your machine on in this video....your bottom half of the agitator goes back/forth, back/forth, back/forth..... where mine only keeps going in one direction. Do you know what the problem is?? Thank you!! I checked the "agitator dogs" and they seem to be functioning properly.
Hey! Great video but I have a question, my top agitator doesn’t have the 2 holes to connect to the bottom agitator like yours does but the bottom agitator does have the 2 slots for it so do you know where I can just buy a top agitator or do I have to buy a whole new agitator set
this is crazy, the sob at the parts store was trying to BS me into buying an entire new agitator. for 135.00 lol I was like ,man, i came in here to get a part and I have not rebuilt an agitator before but I have torn apart and rebuilt entire machines repeatedly. I Just thought a store like this would have a guy that was not a liar in it. LOL he was like oh , sir, we would never lie to you, you need a agitator to repair that. Thanks for this video, I need to go find the parts still now though. I wish there was a way to make these work till the new parts get here , the dogs on this one are smooth, I am betting if I put new grooves in them with a file they will be too short/ I have to order the parts in because the only store around here has a liar for a sales person in it. I might try that file thing anyway since they are ready old and need replacing. seems like it would not have been too much to ask for whirlpool to put a better set up inside there. all plastic is pretty lame for what this stuff costs. metal ring with roller teeth and the a pivoting metal rolling dog would have probably lasted forever. rolling edge like a bearing that clicks in positively but doesn't eat up and grind to nothing. stainless non rust.
Changed out motor coupler and agitator dogs. Got everything done but washer will agitate only in one direction but will complete the full cycle. Have any clue what may cause this? Read where it could be the capacitor. If not may have to look for a new washer. Thanks
@@Sharkie626 No, the whole piece spins in one direction to the left. Guess I need to take the agitator apart again and see if their are any problems. It seemed fine with the new dogs before I installed it.
I can't get the bolt off. I have the 80 series Kenmore and it has a hexagonal bolt with same ratchet assembly as yours has, and I got a 7/16 nut driver that fit perfectly, but the dang bolt is stuck on there like the dickens. I'm not seeing rust, but it could be rusted where the threads are maybe. I don't want to spray chemicals (WD-40 or the like) to loosen up that bolt...how else can I get that dang thing off? Any tips or help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Having trouble removing top part of agitator from bottom part. I got the entire agitator out with no problem. I sprayed some WD 40 in it to see if that will help. Any other suggestions appreciated - thanks.
@@Sharkie626 Thanks. The screw had rust around it, so I'm thinking that may be the problem. If the WD 40 or PB blaster won't work - I think I will have to order another agitator. It is a shame because I'm 99% sure it is just the dogs. Sigh.

Great video sharkie626! I did it! (the repair man who was here yesterday gave up and told me I needed a new washer) NOT calling him again.
Glad it worked out!
Yeah, sadly a lot of repairmen wont repair these kinds of washers nowadays. Pretty pathetic.
Was his name gomer LOL
Thank you so much for this video. I watched 4 others. They all pretty much skipped the putting back together piece. Your was not only there, but it was detailed and you provided a couple of tricks to make it easier. Thanks again.
Haha, glad my tricks helped ya. Thanks for watching!
Thanks. Both cleaned previous owner's dog's hair out of the dryer and replaced the disintegrated cogs.
Nice job!
Great info, clearly illustrated!
All explained very well except for ordering the parts. Are they fairly universal? I have a Kenmore from 1995, Model 110.
Yeah the Kenmore should be pretty similar.
This is a great video to replace the agitator dogs which have gone out on my washer. Unfortunately the timer has gone out as well. Do you have a video about replacing a timer on this model? I'm having trouble with it.
Well done! I might add that while things are apart it is a good time to rinse out the fabric softener dispenser and free up the mechanism.
Yep! It should easily fix it.
Worked like a charm, the dogs on mine were just flat on the teeth. A+ plus for the explanation!!!
Hey excellent! Nice that it helped ya!
This was perfect. I watched a few and yours is best, by far! Ordering parts today! THANK YOU!
Glad it was helpful for you! Good luck on your repair! :D
Thank you so much for your wonderful video, which is so clear. Would you have a suggestion for how to deal with a 7/16 bolt that is so corroded that there is really no head on it? How do I get that sucker out of there? Please let me know and thank you so much!!
Hey no problem!
Unfortunately I'm not sure what to do in that instance. Maybe some other vids out there can help ya!
This video is a great help! Thank you. My top agitator is spinning freely so I definitely need to replace the dogs but I'm worried the bottom agitator may need some kind of repair too. How much should it be spinning? Should there be resistance? I bought it used a few years ago so I don't know the ideal performance
It's all good if the bottom spins freely by hand.
Hey you're very welcome! Sorry ya had such a hard time, but I gotta say, you totally improvised the stuff well!
You so clearly went through the steps! I was able to fix it without any confusion. Thanks for the great video!
Great to hear, Hannah. Glad it's all fixed!
TRUE!
After watching this video,
I performed this repair, without a hitch!
Hey nice job!
Clear and concise Sharkie....well done!...Paul
+gospos1 Thanks a bunch! That was my goal in this video, to help ensure that it would not be too long.
Thank you! Just fixed my washer. So easy!
Awesome and nice work!
Thank you for posting this video. It was very helpful in repairing a similar washer I recently obtained via Craigslist.
Glad I could help ya! :D
Thanks for making an easy to understand and easy to follow along to video. You rock!
Hey no problem at all! Glad it helped ya!
Simply excellent. The best one I saw.
Thanks for watching, glad I could help!
Thanks ! 15 min repair..gotta love it !
There ya go! Glad it all worked out!
Glad I could help you! Every detail counts for sure, so I'm glad I show it!
@@eyesopen5644 Yep! That's the one.
Thank you for the video. We are back in business.
Nice work! Glad it's up and running again!
Thanks. This video was very easy to follow.
You are very welcome!
You just saved me over $225! Thanks for this
Anytime! Glad it was good savings!
This is the best tutorial ever. Thank you so much!
Happy to help! :D
Thank you For this video! So easy to do following your step-by-step instructions!
Hey anytime! Glad it helped!
Great video, Thank-You very much for taking the time to show us how-to!
Not a problem at all! Glad it helped ya!
Thank you so much for your video! I just replaced my Agitator Dogs on my Whirlpool washing machine. Your video really helped!
Glad it helped ya, and it's all fixed! :D
Thanx sooooooo much for your concise and quick video...you saved us an expensive service call!!😆
Awesome! Glad it saved ya money!
Glad I could help! Nice to see that it helped you along!
Love the upside down install. I got ahead of the instructions and dumped my parts lol
Yeah the first time this was done back in 2002, we learned that too. Haha.
Thanks for posting this video it was like hands on training. My washing machine is back on the grid. Great job!!!!
You are very welcome! Glad to hear it helped you!
Great video. I have a different type of whirlpool but your video helped nonetheless
Thanks a lot for watching!
Thanks man, you saved having to buy a new washing machine as the wife thought ours was dead. 😁
Glad I could help keep a quality washer! :D
Really well done video! You explain very clear and concise!
Just for the record: This is the second time that this washer needs new dogs, right?
+Metrini Naranjoide Thanks a bunch!
Yes sir! The ones I replaced were put in, in 2002. So, just about the same life span.
I did this repair today. Thank you for a great video.
Hey no problem. Glad I could help!
Thanks mate, you made the job a lot easier. Your instructional vid was well done :)
Hey no problem! Glad I could help! :D
Anyone?
Simple enough for me! Thanks! Free washer! Now works!
Awesome! Glad it's fixed!
Have you ever had agitator get stuck? I removed the bolt in my maytag commercial technology top loading washer and now I have the bolt out and I have pulled pushed pryed and it won't come off I have tried to find tabs line stuff up shoe string to aracket straps nothing works!
Worked perfectly. Saved me a ton.
Glad to hear it! :D
Hmmm, I may have seen that issue before, it might be a transmission problem.
Worked like a charm! Thanks!
Anytime!
You are the best, Sir. Thank you!
No problem at all! Glad I could help!
Man I appreciate you! Saved me a huge headache.
Hey no problem. Glad I could help ya!
Hey! Great video but I have a question, my top agitator doesn’t have the 2 holes to connect to the bottom agitator like yours does but the bottom agitator does have the 2 slots for it so do you know where I can just buy a top agitator or do I have to buy a whole new agitator set
Hmm, that sounds like you have a different type of cam for the dogs.
Thanks Sharkie! Very well put together
+Will “Ford” Butter Thanks for watching, my friend!
this is crazy, the sob at the parts store was trying to BS me into buying an entire new agitator. for 135.00 lol I was like ,man, i came in here to get a part and I have not rebuilt an agitator before but I have torn apart and rebuilt entire machines repeatedly.
Yeah some of those sales people are pretty crazy. This part is easy to find! Just search on Amazon or Repair Clinic.
Thanks for posting this!
You are very welcome!
You sir, are a savior!
Glad I could help! :D
Thank you this is my preferred video on the subject. Thank you for helping me out.
You're very welcome!
So, where do you buy the parts and how much are they?
Thanks man! New dogs in place and working fine.
Great! Glad to hear it!
Thank you! Perfect steps, was able to fix myself for a few dollars! Woo Hoo!,
Hey no problem at all! :D
Changed out motor coupler and agitator dogs. Got everything done but washer will agitate only in one direction but will complete the full cycle. Have any clue what may cause this? Read where it could be the capacitor. If not may have to look for a new washer. Thanks
It is? Hmm. Do you mean this top piece?
@@Sharkie626 No, the whole piece spins in one direction to the left. Guess I need to take the agitator apart again and see if their are any problems. It seemed fine with the new dogs before I installed it.
@@Berkner80 Hmm, that's odd. Yeah, not quite sure why that is.
@@Sharkie626 thanks anyway
I can't get the bolt off. I have the 80 series Kenmore and it has a hexagonal bolt with same ratchet assembly as yours has, and I got a 7/16 nut driver that fit perfectly, but the dang bolt is stuck on there like the dickens. I'm not seeing rust, but it could be rusted where the threads are maybe. I don't want to spray chemicals (WD-40 or the like) to loosen up that bolt...how else can I get that dang thing off? Any tips or help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Yeah some of them can be insanely tight. Maybe try some penetrating oil or silicone spray. Those might be your best bets.
@@Sharkie626 Thanks for your reply! I'll look into those options. Appreciate it!
Having trouble removing top part of agitator from bottom part. I got the entire agitator out with no problem. I sprayed some WD 40 in it to see if that will help. Any other suggestions appreciated - thanks.
Hmm, I know one other who had this issue, though not too sure on the fix unfortunately.
@@Sharkie626 Thanks. The screw had rust around it, so I'm thinking that may be the problem. If the WD 40 or PB blaster won't work - I think I will have to order another agitator. It is a shame because I'm 99% sure it is just the dogs. Sigh.
