      @@nathxn05 I'm not saying they're horrible characters, but instead I'm saying 2 things: why kill off fan favorites because you couldn't give the actor the screen time needed then just introduce FIVE new main characters we don't know, & objectively speaking, Carl, Jesus and Morales are far superior characters than any of the new group in pretty much every way. Connie was cool, the others had the most meaningless storylines and dialogue that didn't matter, I like the actors, the addition of their characters in place of fan favorites was extremely silly. Imagine instead of watching Kelly lose her hearing in season 10 then all of a sudden be fine in season 11, we saw Jesus become the leader of Hilltop and have him deal with his home being destroyed by the Whisperers. As someone who puts the downfall point of the show WAY LATER than a lot of other people Carl's death was that moment for me. I still loved it up to that point but especially as someone that read the comics and knew his biggest storyline was coming up next that was simply infuriating to see. Not to mention the simple fact that he never died at all at any point in the entire run of the now complete comic series so that by itself was enough reason to hate it. From that point Rick left too a season later and quite literally the entire heart and soul of the series was gone. Which I don't blame the actor too much for he left for personal reasons but it doesn't change the fact that it gutted the quality out of the show.

It gave Rick a new perspective of things, we could see how It affected him and that was important fo the storytelling and Rick's character arc towards the end of the season. If I was a writer, instead of Daryl killing him, he would knock him unconscious and both him and Rick could've taken him prisoner. In fact, he would be one of the few Saviors who would become good overtime after getting his backstory beforehand. Btw, I would've shown how his family died and when the Saviors found him. I would have him survive through the All Out War Arc, the Whisperer Arc, and have him get killed in the Reaper Arc to at least make it feel important because the only major character who died in that storyline was Alden yet we still didn't get to see how he was killed.

Then there was the guy named Allen who had a wife named Donna who we see die, but he's basically just Allen in name alone and joins the Governor which he doesn't do in the comics (I can't remember if he died before or after we even met the Governor). And then in season 4 we had that guy with the two kids who died and left them in the group's care where one kid kills their sibling because yadda yadda yadda. Then we have Mika and Lizzy who take ben and billys storyline, Morales who fills in for the family back in season 1, carol who takes carls role in killing Billy, tyreese dies in Wiltshire Estate where Donna dies in the comics, Carl also kills a young boy back in the prison in season 3 which is similar to killing Billy etc. for such a minor family in the comics, their storyline and plot are really important to the growth of the characters. I always thought that it did have impact, Daryl showing up and instantly killing him without hesitation showed how far they had come since season 1 and how their morals (one might say their "morales") were now a shade of grey when compared to the officer friendly attitude at the beginning. Daryl was out for revenge against the saviors and didn't care who was at the receiving end as long as it wasn't Rick's group, and this behavior shocks Rick into questioning whether they're still the good guys or if they're as "bad" (depends on perspective) as the saviors.
    I will agree that it was missed opportunity and more could have been done, but the impact that the short 5 minutes had on the overall season and story as a whole was pretty meaningful, in my opinion

    With TWD losing both Carl and Rick along with Dwight and Morgan within episodes of Morales returning, it wouldn't have hurt the budget to add Morales as a fleshed out character. Adding 1 and losing 4 is still a net loss of 3 people. Especially since he's an OG season 1 character. Morales could have taken the role of post all out war Comic Dwight who led the sanctuary after Negan got imprisoned. Morales could have gotten shot in the head by Daryl in season 11 at the commonwealth.

    I get the idea of showing this guy who was an easy going guy, a family guy, a guy Rick knew, and having him show up as a Savior. It'd be like Luke finding out some guy from his school was one of the Storm troopers holding Leia.
    But yeah, wasted potential. Imagine Negan realizing Morales has a connection to Rick, and making him his #3 in the saviors. Or maybe seeing Rick makes him not as viscous as the rest of Negan's band, and he becomes a double agent. But no, five minutes and done.

    @randomWeirdNoodleman532 Месяц назад +7

    Interesting take. Actually I always thoguht Morales' return was cool. Yes, it was short and not very meaning and impactful, but I really think it served its purpose. As you just said in the beginning of your video it was interesting to see two people starting together finding themselves on opposite sides years later. And I also don't think it's bad that Morale's come back was so short lived, in fact, that's what I liked about it, especially because of what Daryl said afterwards. It doesn't matter who he was (at least not in-universe), he was an enemy and had to go. Morales even himself questioned Rick's behavior when Rick said he would try to find another way to handle this, by asking him "Why? Just because we knew each other for a few days back at the start?" And technically he's right; it was so long ago that it didn't matter anymore. It was either him or Rick, and he eventually lost.
    I know many fans were unsatisfied by this, but I really do think it was a bone chilling moment seeing him becoming an enemy. I actually prefer this way of how thing went than taking Morales into the group and making yet another long-lasting boring character with endless plot armour and zero personality. That's the same reason why I have no problem with the fact why we never learned what happened to Heath. Because that's one of the few things that are realistic on the show. People dissapear all the time without a trace, and especially in an apocalypse this is very likely to happen.
    The only thing I really didn't like about Morale's return was how they 1. announced and promoted it and edged the viewers because I really think it would've been far better if it happened out of nowhere but sadly everything is about marketing these days, and 2. how they made a cliffhanger + splitted his return into 3 different scenes which kind of took away the "vibe" and also didn't make much sense considering they killed him anyway. I think it would've been much cooler to see that 6 minute event happening in only one scene instead of a cliffhanger and multiple story switches, but I still like it as I said. I simply don't believe every single character needs a 10/10 redemption arc and a tragic and epic death. If they would've kept every single halfway interesting character to keep their story on, almost nobody would've died in those 11 seasons and the whole series would've felt like a minecraft gamemode 1 session.

    I really don’t mind what they did with him. He was such a minor character that it didn’t really matter to me. We got to see what he became and we got closure for his story. bringing back morales was interesting especially for fans who have been around since season one like myself. This would’ve been a nice way to gain back. Some of those fans have been gone for five seasons, they could’ve been creative. They could’ve easily switched back to how they used to film the show and how they used to edit cut scenes and how Walker used to be a threat they could’ve brought all of that back since the show has turned into a basic generic looking mess. This could’ve brought back a lot of old memories for fans, not to mention, expand Rick a little bit more into ways that we’ve never seen him expand before, especially when it comes to touching on the past because that is obviously very hard for him to do given all the events that he’s been through. This could’ve been more creative, but they just did what Star Wars did introduced a very interesting character and then killed him right off…. HELL I could say the same thing about Terminator dark fate…. Nobody liked that decision😂

    Morales’s return felt like the impact with Carl losing an eye with either playing a role or having some impact going forward but ended up being pointless. Carl losing his eye didn’t really cause trouble for his sight in the show and Morales gets forgotten about and never even mentioned after his death.

    Morales does not exist in the walking dead comics. He’s one of those non-exits characters in show that don’t even exist in the comics. That was one of the reasons what I hate about the show. They kept on adding pointless characters and they would steal one of the main characters story arch.

    I agree that they wasted the potential, but I think that Rick meeting him after all that time really mad him question how much he's changed since back at the quarry. It also could've had Rick pondering if he lost everything just like Morales, would he had fallen in with the saviors?
    After Daryl NO-SCOPED Morales is when I think Rick could've been thinking "Even after this war is there going to be anything of who I used to be left?". They def wasted potential, but I think that it was still a influential part for Ricks mindset during the war with the saviors.

    I just watch The Thrifty Typewriter, it suprised me that he saw Carl's characterization in season 8 was inconsistent just like i did. And the reason of that was because Amc fired Chandler Riggs to avoid paying him the adult wage by killing him off, showing how greedy AMC is. Carl possessive traits of wanting peace were actually Morgan's, meaning Morgan was originally supposed die in that season because his comic counterpart was killed off in the arc of Alexandria overrun by walkers. With Morales alive i think he would have help Morgan convince Rick to understand Negan's intentions and spare his life, similar to the arc of his comic counterpart. The show version of all out war and Rick sparing Negan and the Saviors always felt lacklusting to me. The comic version was interesting and build up the character arc not just for Rick but for those who survived the war against the Saviors by ending conflicts of the living and coexist to fight against their real enemies, the Walkers.

    The thing is there's a limited amount of screentime and if you bring in a Morales story then some of the story they DID tell had to not be told. I'm not necessarily saying that's a bad thing but what do people think a Morales storyline should have replaced - what should have been taken out? Personally I think they gave an actor they liked (and the audience had registered) a payday / bit of fan service - and I'm not always against those things.

It was a kill or be killed situation and both sides would have to end the other side as quickly as possible . Those 5 minutes shared between rick and morales were like an eternity in terms of battle. They should have brought him in during another situation so that they interacted more.
