    Haven't watched yet, but isn't it cool how every abandoned location in this universe has stories that were lost to the time of the post apocalypse? Even locations our characters lived in themselves. Imagine random survivors stumbling upon the prison while it was in ruins, wondering what happened the same way Rick and Michonne wondered what happened at the carnival. Interesting to think about.
    The whole world of the walking dead is a graveyard to the uninformed who may explore it.

      we have already seen this sort of, back in S5 they did post credit scenes to tease Morgan's return, we saw parts of his travels to DC, we even see him go to the church i assume days after Rick and co left it, that's where he finds the map that writes '' The new world is gonna need Rick Grimes '', indeed all of the places we saw and will saw in TWD are just graveyards, i bet at least one of the locations we saw in the whole show got re-built by other survivors and it was a strong community at one point in the universe.

    A couple of my favorite environmental storytelling is the bound and gagged woman in the trunk of a sedan. Another is in Daryl Dixon when he sees two walkers chained together. No explanation, its just ancient history by those points.

      I want an environmental story telling that is just a whole bunch of walkers constantly tripping over or crawling simply because their shoes are tied together. We later find out from a diary or something that it was the local undertaker who did that because he thought it would be funny to see if the dead ever did rise from the grave.

The bound people reanimated before they could be buried and attacked a couple of soldiers. Those soldiers are the ones that were hit with the headshots. Pandemonium ensued. My thinking is that the military held up in the high school and started quarantining people in the carnival to better control the flow of supplies. The civilians did try to rise up and tried to break through the fence. That's why there's a soldier smashed though the windshield of a car and another one who was impaled by some makeshift spikes on the hood of another car. The soldiers tried to fight back but ended up losing control. The troops with bullet wounds in their backs might've just been friendly fire as troops from further back could've hit them by mistake

    I think the key detail to note here are the walkers who had their hands bound. I think what could’ve happened here is a prison break type scenario, similar to what happened in the first season of fear the walking dead. Could’ve been either outside family members or, survivors who had previously escaped the camp could’ve attacked the camp in order to free someone from a certain execution. However it likely failed which led to the death of most of if not the entire camp

    In the later seasons (i think immediately following the weird covid modified episodes our group goes to a military base to get MRE's but because theres a couple walkers in the room with the snacks, and the fact that our group had to repel down a rope to get in "safely" they left most of the weapons/food/supplies. This proves that the writers are not that keen for every detail, our group was STARVING (it was the episodes theme) yet they fumbled guaranteed shelf stable food/meds/supplies because there was a couple walkers blocking them. You never know why the writers leave large gaps in the plot. Sometimes a boom box playing music will clear out a hostile region, other times they can never return and the supplies are eternally lost forever if unsuccessful the first run

    Would be a cool thing to cover in a documentary-esque, in-universe show being broadcast over CR/CW TV and video rental services. "Beyond The Wall: A perspective from the unclaimed lands". A couple of resettled survivors share their tale of the failed coup at an unnamed high school safezone from 14-15 years before. Seeing that cellphones were still being used as recording devices and cameras, we get bits and pieces of footage interspersed into studio recreations of what went down.

    Early on, it's not clear even to the survivors that everyone who dies comes back as zombies. The main group doesn't figure this out until the end of season 2, and it's shown in many cases that there are variants of zombies, some clearly far more intelligent than the others or more self aware. When many of the zombies "come back to life", soldiers likely initially had no idea what was going on and like the Herschel farm people, likely thought they were just out of control people. Them being hand cuffed could easily have been because the soldiers thought the zombies were just unruly or sick people behaving strangely rather than being reanimated dead. Possibly, after many people die and reanimate, they start infecting people and biting them, and panic breaks out leading to mass shoot outs where tons of people die. Soldiers get caught in the crossfire, people try to escape and accidentally kill soldiers or do so on purpose, and civilians and soldiers even get in to a shoot out. Eventually all hell breaks loose and people flee the camps.
    When the soldiers are executing civilians in the hospital in season 1, it looks ruthless, but they're trying to prevent them from turning in to zombies. Knowing that anyone who is killed comes back to life means they have no choice but to kill civilians about to die of disease as they'll become a threat to others. After having done it thousands of times they may simply be at a stage where it's routine, even though the imagery of shooting the elderly in the head looks horrifying. In the same vein, they may have handcuffed civilians not realizing they were coming back from the dead and thought they were temporarily insane or something, or had rabies, or that a cure was possible. Several groups in the show believe this is possible, from the Governor, to Herschel, to others, and so the logic naturally follows these may simply have been zombies handcuffed. People would still see them as their wives, daughters, aunts, brothers, cousins, friends and so on and not as zombies to be killed, so it would be hard to put them down. A few zombies escape, kill a few soldiers, panic breaks out and tons of people die.

  • @rostig01
    @rostig01 5 месяцев назад +12

    I figured it was most likely an internal revolt gone wrong for many reasons. It's possible the military was intending to keep the civilians in place for future evacuation but of course that never happened, maybe through prior orders before losing communication with higher command. Perhaps they wouldn't let anyone leave initially as a safety concern but eventually it made the school seem more like a prison than a safe haven. Add that to a combination of continued false promises of evacuation/rescue, food rationing, demoralized troops/civilians, decreasing trust in military leadership, and heavy handed punishments to those who stepped out of line(arrests and potentially even executions). Eventually it could have reached a boiling point where a firefight took place between opposing sides. In the confusion some people may have escaped but also provided openings for nearby groups of zombies to wander in causing even more chaos. Gunshots are loud, that'd have attracted a lot of unwanted attention. In the end most if not everyone still within was killed by roaming zombies and the newly resurrected dead. This is all just speculation of course but hey. 🤷‍♂

    Really would have liked a spinoff following a group of US army solidiers at the start of the outbreak, during it, and also about a year in. Wonder what kind of story that would be like is there ANY chain of command left? Or like a rendezvous when things got hot? maybe follow that up

    It kinda gives me ideas like the movie The Crazies. Military sweeps in and round up everyone to try and control the situation while awaiting orders. But family members or neighbors hear about the situation and ride in guns blazing trying to free their captive neighbors and family members and in the chaos people die on all sides, the military are all that remains and they bug out when the dead start coming back. Would explain the lack of military style vehicles and non-military grade weapons among the perma-dead

    Interesting take on it Ty. I love these videos 😅
    Always thought it was the other way around, though. I viewed it as civilians/raiders trying to break into the complex and launching a surprise attack on the military men stationed there. The bullet riddled car being part of the attack, and the tied up civilians as people who’d earlier been detained by the military (possibly the reason why there was an attack on the fairground).

    I think the other ignored mistery here is "why they had a Carnival in the school and it didn´t was tooked off after the military took control.
    My theory is that the School had a Carnival the same day the military came to took control of the building, and all the events told by Swell happened in just a spawn of days, not weeks.
    they left everything set because the security zone was working well (or at least thats what the military officers running the zone tried to make the people believe), so looking they still had the tents and games from the school festival set, they decided to make a "festival day" to boost the morale of the civilians somehow in all this chaos.
    The worst is that the coup happened during the day of the festival, and the rebel military stuff attacked the people and the soldiers guarding the festival.

    I liked your own analysis on the whole situation!
    Thought of giving my own spin on it as well:
    My personnel theory is that the Gun-wounds on the soldiers weren't exactly caused by hostile civilians hosted in the camp, but rather by Rogue Soldiers.
    Imagine this, you've been cooped up, god knows where, in a dinky old circus, the threat of these walkers only being barely kept back by the oready installed fences, and the resources that were spread out State wise, You've lost communication with HQ, basically being kept in the Dark, your only source of information being the news, and its all the same, Outbreaks of the same shit, from Dallas to Texas. People are confused, People are scared. they aren't sure of the safety of their families their loved ones.
    Neither are the Soldiers.
    One day, someone tries to make it out, a mad-dash in their car, shot rang out as they begin to fill the car with holes, only for it to loose control and ram one of their men, his body going through the windshield and breaking his neck, but still living him alive, slowly dying.
    The Driver is alive, they pull them out and gather all of the civilians, huddling them together, and discussing what to do with them.
    Being tired, being fed up a argument breaks out, only to be snuffed out by the sound of fire, two soldiers, their mind oready made up went "Fuck it."
    They shot the other soldiers in the back, then the tied up civilians. then themselves.

    I think it was dissent among the civilians, similar to the difference of worldviews we saw with Rick and the residents of Alexandria prior to Rick pulling his gun and furthermore we might have had the same situation in the armory when Eugene overheard a group talking about killing Rick, however in this case the soldiers tied up the small group of dissenters which only served to escalate the tension to the breaking point that led to the shootout. Chances are this might have occurred before people realized a bite/scratch wasn't necessary to turn because everyone is infected, so the shootout itself is how the walkers got in.

      You can hear suppressed weapons pretty well as it only knocks of a dozen decibels. There’s a few advantages like elimination of muzzle flash after the first shot and it being harder to pinpoint the origin of the gun shot.

    The scene where Michonne and Carl are searching a house and stumble across a creepy painting that someone vandalized has always stuck with me.
    It seemed so bizarre and out of place; like the explanation for it might be simple enough, but that doesn't make it any less unnerving. It's not as if the house was ransacked or anything, someone just decided to target that painting in particular.
    Makes me wonder what the intentions behind that were. Why did the show writers feel like that was a necessary detail to include?

    I follow the "the simplest thing" hypothesis. The bound dead are outsiders or scouts, disguised as Civilians hence them being unarmed. They were likely found out and placed in a detention tent somewhere, and when they didn't return, their group came to free them but either died or fled the overwhelming odds. A good a theory as any!

    My assumption is the Military in control there most likely 'lost' their control. They either became way to tyranical over the populace here, started to detain, and withold food, and then the civilian populace just lost it and an entire fight broke out. That's what came to mind for me first.

    A couple of points, if there was unrest brewing it is highly unlikely that so many soldiers would be caught with slung weapons, escapee's would likely loot things like weapons and food, most outside groups would likely loot as well. However one outside group would easily explain both anomalies, soldiers from another unit that was following the orders of cobalt came upon them and slaughtered them after approaching in a non hostile manner and then moved on. The bound people were interogated before execution.

  • @HyenaDandy
    @HyenaDandy 5 месяцев назад +2

    Okay let's see if I can think of a good theory.
    Evidence:
    Unopened food supplies
    Soldiers shot with rifles on shoulders
    Military and civilians in defensible location
    Carnival still standing
    Handcuffed civilians
    One soldier killed with car.
    ----
    So two things I'm noticing here. The first is that it seems that the ONLY combat that occurred was outside, and limited to small arms fire. The second is that whoever shot the bound civilians didn't know, didn't care, or didn't have time for the destroying the head rule.
    I think the guns on the shoulder is interesting because that says to me that these guys weren't just sentries. And maybe a few of them could have rifles on their shoulders if they were just chilling, but that many?
    Now one thing I find interesting is that this is clearly not something the highschool had supplies for. There's a large slide and Ferris Wheel. That means that there were carnies. And I'm guessing that they ran booths too, not just rides.
    The two problems I see with your theory are that one, that many people with rifles over their shoulders if tensions were high already is weird. It looks more like the soldiers were on a march somewhere. And two, the supplies aren't just full, several of them are unopened. If you find yourself in a situation where you may be without supplies for a long time, the first thing even a greedy or corrupt military officer would do is a calorie count. Which means opening up those boxes and checking to make sure every single one of those MREs is properly sealed.
    So here's my thought: When things started to really go to hell, there was nobody at the carnival except the carnies. They couldn't get into the school but they had some food and supplies so they hunkered down. It's a good spot.
    Later the military came to town, gathered up a large number of civilians, and took them to the highschool along with supplies, only to discover people already there. The carnies let them in and even started to help set up the camp.
    Civilians, escorted by soldiers with rifles over their shoulders, started to arrive and get ready. As this happened, the carnies found out that they weren't going to be allowed to stay - The camp was for people in the surrounding areas, that's what supplies were calculated for. They weren't from Chilton so they'd have to leave.
    They naturally didn't like this and they, along with some civilians, began to argue about it. The military commander, already overwhelmed, ordered that any of the troublemakers be handcuffed and taken to one of the tents. The carnies misinterpreted this as a planned execution... And also knew where the guns were, since they had helped store them. So they got the guns and arranged a breakout for their friends. On a prearranged signal, they all attacked at once, killing several soldiers who were still in the process of arriving and setting up.
    But they didn't know about walkers coming back from being murdered. They might have just thought that you transformed if you got sick. So when someone went down they just moved on to the next target.
    Unfortunately for them, this is several (admittedly probably pretty tough) civilians against a trained military force. They had the benefit of surprise, the soldiers had the benefit of just about everything else. Headshotted bodies were killed by the military. The others by the carnies.
    As the military started to regroup, the dead rose again. These were fresh bodies wearing thick clothing, so it wasn't always clear who was a soldier and who wasn't. During this time, the bound civilians were killed by reanimated military, since they couldn't defend themselves. People start getting shot left and right, anyone with blood gets accused of being a walker... Pretty soon it becomes clear this safe zone is compromised. The surviving soldiers withdraw, trapping any civilian survivors in with the walkers. One of those civilians gets their hands on a car and tries to break out, hitting one of the soldiers as they're trying to close things up. Any civilians still alive in the carnival are eventually killed, leaving us with the situation we have - Soldiers who seem to be on the march having been taken by surprise (they thought the carnies were helping them,) bound civilians in one area (having been taken away to be dealt with later), only or largely military weaponry (the carnies weren't originally armed) too many dead from headshots to be unintentional but many people shot in the body (the shooters didn't know the rules) a clearly ORGANIZED attack that took a lot of people off guard (again they thought these guys were both unarmed and helping them) and a bullet riddled car that had run into a soldier (last ditch breakout).

  • @lonelee141
    @lonelee141 4 месяца назад +1

    my best guess, this place was set up and civilians were voluntold to stay in place, some of them got rowdy and started getting detained, word spread one way or another of the big bad army capturing innocent survivors in a prison camp and an arm group came by, by surprise, had a shootout and in the chaos there were lots of army and civillian deaths. The gunfire caused more infected to show up and the casualties re-animated, swarming the area and rendering the supplies inside unattainable to the surviving side of the exchange. The surviving side of the exchange then likely fled.

  • @redgaming6701
    @redgaming6701 5 месяцев назад +3

    I wonder if the supplies were left a cache. It wouldn't be the first time walkers were used to defense a static position. Fenced off location, dozens of walkers and the loot wasn't touched. Possibly the group that attacked was either defended off or retreated? Compared to other safe zones, there is a severe lack of actual walkers here maybe dozens compared to others having hundreds. Didn't earlier in the season walkers get up way faster then currently? Trying to defend off a location while being attacked from within by walkers would be difficult when walkers are getting up around you while you're focusing on the attackers and ran out of ammo to retake the location if they retreated. I doubt this was a typical safe zone as well due to where is the actual population we don't see alot. This could very well be planned to eliminate the remainder of a safe zone, as Marines and the Army were practically at war in the beginning. So many opportunities and ways to look at this scene.

    There's some pretty good ideas on this thread.
    My take on the bound walkers - is that they were people that were considered high risk. Perhaps they had a slight fever or were acting out of sorts. Somewhat similar to Nick and Strand in S1 of Fear. The people were growing paranoid and wanted to leave the camp, while the soldiers prevented them from leaving. Eventually a fire fight broke out, which lead to a huge death toll.
    In regards the CGI deer, I've heard that they actually filmed a real deer and then digitally added it to the scene. However, it was viewed at a completely different angle than what it was filmed - which caused the distortion. Budget constraints prevented them from redoing it properly.

    Adding to your theory the clip of the revolver being picked off one of the dead bodies, supports the idea the civilians were smuggled some weapons too (probably even their own they had to give up to stay there). Since the military don't use revolvers and the soldiers would only be allowed to use what they were issued, it could have only belonged to a civilian. Though you could argue that once ammo started to became scarce the soldier's started using the weapons they confiscated.

    My guess is maybe the high school didn't know about an apocalypse happening, and the military tried keeping it quiet.
    But by forcing quarantine, citizens wanted to rise up and leave and quickly turned into a fire fight. My guess is, this place went down pretty early and when people started turning into zombies citizens never knew about the outbreak and slowly started to turn. Which led to what ever fight broke out to nobody winning

    What if whatever happened there was something plotted by outsiders; they would send some people into the place to steal things and escape. Then the soldiers caught them stealing, and decided to arrest all those who arrived recently, perhaps taking some innocent people in the middle, and those who were outside, not receiving anything, decided to attack taking the guards by surprise, unleashing chaos inside the place then, seeing that they couldn't enter they retreated and after all that, the wounded and dead converted, killing all those who could not escape.
