I met Jon, at a 'Walker Stalker' Con, in 2017. I remember going up to his booth, and I said 'Shane is a very misunderstood character, and was/is one of my favorites, of the show.' He literally talked to my wife and I, for almost 5 minutes, even though he had a huge line of people waiting. He was so down to earth, and listened and engaged with us, almost like we had known each other for years. Just want to say, meeting you, Jon, was a highlight and I hope I get the chance, to say hello again someday. Cheers, Mr. Walsh

Very rare to see someone in the industry that is so down to Earth as Jon is. Met him back in 2014 in Louisville and the same thing... He took the time to really talk to me. We talked about his alternate end to Shane that he pitched along with Fury, which hadn't come out yet... Talked about the WWII vets those guys met with... You can tell he truly cares about the craft of storytelling and what that means... The humanity angle of it. This podcast reflects that too... It's real conversations, no bs... It's about the humanity and that may sound corny, but it's respectable and commendable as fuck.

59:23 I think they’re referring to Jon’s idea of Shane’s gun being purposefully empty, implying that Shane had no intention of killing Rick, but to push Rick to do what it took to survive. To me, it made more sense for the character to sacrifice himself in that way than wanna kill his best friend to have Lori and Carl for himself. There’s just no way that would even work and he knew that.

over a decade later and everyone I know still says "Shane!" when Bernthal appears on screen in other media. It may have been a short stint in the show in the scale of things but it had such a huge impact that you could still feel the presence of Shane (or the absence of him and how needed he was) all the way to the end. Absolutely phenomenal performance and deserves all the flowers.

Sad story about the dog. Me too I cried when my dog died. I never showed it to my parents or siblings. I went in my little corner so nobody could see me and I bawled. Crazy how the bond you make with an animal can affect you emotionally. It never hits in the moment until it does.
Crazy how Daryl lasted this long. The OG crew carried the show. You could of have your own spin off too. Shane was such a character. People hated the decisions he made but he was all about keeping it real and stay grounded especially in the reality there were in.

So much respect for these two guys. For such successful actors, they just seem so down to earth and real. Setting a great example, especially the part Jon says about the responsibility of friendship. Wow, really moves me to know there are people that see it that way, what a beautiful thing. Good for him taking the heat about Shia, people don't change unless we engage with them and there are a limited number of people that can reach people in that kind of head space. Take responsibility, doesn't mean it will always work but you got to try. You'll learn something in the process, doesn't mean you condone whatever.

I loved the walking dead show in its entirety. After Andrew left, it lost a bit of its touch for me. After Steven left, a lot of people lost touch with the show. (Not me because I loved Jeffery as negan) But I can say with full confidence, and everyone would agree, seasons 1-5/6 were some of the best television in history. There was something so special about every single character, and the actors did some of the best work I’ve seen to bring them to life. And Jon made such an impact in the beginning of the show, honestly I can say he carried the beginning of the show, alongside Andrew. Those two worked so well together, I wish Shane’s character was brought further along, even though we all obviously hated him haha. I would love to see more old co workers on the show Jon! Especially Andrew

I appreciate these conversations and thank you for just talking amongst friends. People get so caught up in the game and limelight when in actuality, just like you said, we all have more in common than what is portrayed on propaganda media. We're all human beings, and we have relationships with each other. You have worked with someone for years, you develop a relationship with that person, and you bond. People need to relax on the whole fanatatism of celebrities. Ya'll are just normal people who chose a different career path. We need to do more communicating. Drop the egos and just talk. You might find we have more in common with the folks we see on the screen than not. Much love to ya'll.

Hello John. This was great interview. Ironically I have only scene Season 1 of The Walking Dead. I saw you there and I have seen you in other things along the way. You have always brought a dangerous intensity to your roles, which I see even in this interview setting. For the longest time, and like many actors, I only knew you through the characters you play. Many of those characters haven't been good guys. That said, I discovered Real Ones though the interview you did with Shia Labeouf. Not only did I hear his heart related to his past, but I head some of yours as well. Your level of honesty and vulnerability and ability to speak harsh truths to those who may need to hear struck a cord in me. I am not familiar with many of your guests, but I plan to return because I like the 'REAL' you are sharing. I know there is still a level of performance, even on a podcast, but I like that you are talking about hard subjects and that your guest are willing to meet, as much as possible, in an honest environment.
My memory of the Walking Dead S1 is strong and I was disheartened by what happened to Frank Darabont. He is a favorite director and, in my mind, the creator of the look and feel of TWD.
Keep up the good work. I'm sure I'll be back even if I don't know what the hell is going on. Thanks, again, and be well brother.

I can’t lie, your role as Shane kinda spoiled you as an actor for me (I was in junior high😂I’m 22 now) but after growing up a lot and especially after watching that episode, I faced my ignorance and realized how great you really are. I learned useful things from you and Shia watching that, and I learned quite a bit here too with Norman. Honestly, from poor man to cool man, you are a legend brother 💯
