The opening scene of the first episode was such a killer introduction. I remember actually going back to check if I had clicked on the wrong show at first. But once I realized what was going on I was 100% hooked on the show right away. So clever.
so true i had to reopen it multiple times until i figured it out
The opening scene of the first episode was the best part of the entire series so far.
I can totally hear Pedro saying “I have none for you.” And laughing. 😅
Now can we also get the rest of the OG cast from the game to react to the show and give their opinions? Sadly Annie Wershing who played Tess has passed away (RIP), but I still wanna hear from the rest.
She passed away?
@@thegeeksister13Yes she did,it was this year if I remember right🙏🙏
I would love to know what Ashley thinks
@@thomasjones4265I looked it up it’s January 29th 2023 but I felt like you did because it’s gone by so fast
Didn't shepass away right around the time the 1st or 2nd episode of the show came out? I remember thinking what a coincidence it was and also sad because she didn't get the time to enjoy the fruits of her work like the rest of the game cast did :(
The intro for the first episode is still probably one of my favorite moment of the series so far. The eerie tension that’s created where he perfectly predicts what’s to come to showing the whole audience and host being speechless and terrified and it was incredible.
totally agree. that, and the opener in Indonesia were both sooo impressive and added so much more depth to the story.
I want a Troy Baker reaction of every thing on the internet ❤
if your ready to set your life on watching it i'm sure his willing to do it lol

most gay thing I have heard today ♥
i can listen to troy talk about anything all day.
There's just something about his voice that makes people want to listen to him - deep, a little gruff, sexy, and compelling all at once. There is definitely a reason he gets hired to be a voice actor on a LOT of projects... but for me, he'll always be Joel and Booker.
14:55 it’s actually crazy how they found PERFECT spots that look exactly the same from the game to film at
It makes sense since ND did a lot of scouting location to really replicate the locations where the games take place, A friend of mine from Seattle swears that one of the levels looks exactly like his neighborhood.
*The Man. The Troy. The Baker.*
A voice acting legend in his own right, praising a fellow role portrayer. _Neat._
Goat of video game acting
Troy is such a great actor, and he’s also great at explaining the craftsmanship behind! True professional right there.
Troy has not only just absolutely wowed me with his performances, he has taught me so much about acting, production and just everything. He’s such a massive inspiration to my creative work. I truly hope to shake this man’s hand one day and just say thank you.
Soon as I saw that Craig Mazin was showrunner, I knew this was going to be awesome. Troy mentioned the amount of detail they got right, and judging from how astronomically right the Chernobyl show was in terms of detail, it was absolutely no surprise he did the same here. Amazing.
Same! My confidence went through the roof when Craig was announced.
Same! All my fears about how the adaptation would go were put to rest as soon as I heard Craig Mazin was behind it. I knew he would do a great job and I was not disappointed.
I think the facets of Joel we see in both the game and the show are all facets that the character feels perfectly capable of. It's cool to have been allowed to see so many of them through the two mediums.
The show is really as close as you can get with a IRL adaptation, but nothing will ever beat Troy's and Ashley's original interpretation. They are the very reason why we are so invested in these characters.
Troy baker is genuinely a cool dude.
Hundreds of VA roles only add to the coolness.
And a few live-action portrayals, too.
Met him in Des Moines. He really is.
He might be acting like a cool dude for all we know
@@DylanAlexander93
Ha-ha, _acting._
I see what you did there.
I almost got through this video without crying and then tv Joel says "We're not sick" and here come the waterworks
Troy Baker is one of the best VA out there. Awesome to see him get a big role like this too! So many voices in shows, anime and games, (and music too) inspiring a lot of future VA's. Great work and thanks for being you man!
I would love to hear Troy talk about one of his older games. BioShock Infinite to be exact. I love him as Booker Dewitt
Delsin Rowe from Infamous would be nice too
I love Booker Dewitt
There is *A TON* of roles that he could talk about.
_Pagan Min, Shinnok, Erron Black, Talion, etc._
Also his work as Talion
@
Already mentioned by me.
He said “I can’t wait to see where he takes the character in season 2”
He gon take the character golfing 😂
Well you gotta relax while avoiding clickers and runners
I know this is a joke.
But remember, TLOU2 had a crap ton of flashback sequences, those could actually be super interesting to see.
@@gibleyman I think it would work better for the show if they did it in chronological order instead of through flashbacks like the game. Everyone is expecting it to happen early on, so it would be a nice subversion to postpone it until the end, and then have season 3 be the rest of Part II.
Troy Baker could tell a story about going to his mailbox to check his mail and make it seem like a life-altering event. He's one of these actors I could listen to all day as he talks about his acting process, how he collaborates with his co-stars, just everything.
The show, this series, to the entire community/“makers” lol.. of the game/show is so amazing and really changed my life in a way❤🙂
As someone who played the original game 6 times in a row when it first came out, I didn't know if Pedro was the right fit. Until I saw the Sarah death scene. Somehow, he made it hit even harder. He killed it, and I was wrong. Nobody can replace Troy. Troy is Joel. Pedro is just the live action Joel.
Nevertheless... _this is the way._
dude I cried both times while playing the game and watching the first episode of the show, shit hits me like a truck I couldn’t even hold it in
1:12 “national wildlife park in…it’s cold”
The word they cut was Canada
It must be so amazing, reading a script, acting it out in all sound studios with marks everywhere, only believing in your own abilities and the trust in the crew an production. Then to try the game and witness the whole grand vision, then to be a part of it again in life and see it all physically but again in a faithful yet respectful interpretation. Wow
Imma need a Watch Party of the OG Cast Watching and Reacting to the TV Show
It's SO COOL to hear him talk about all this stuff
1:03 and that’s why Troy is goated.
Was a great way to view it
Man this was great - your performance in the game was flawless
When the show came out I was only a little hesitant, but overall excited by the choice of Pascal for his physical approximation of Joel. I'm really glad they had you on cast for the show. It would've felt so wholly wrong to leave you out.
We needed a way better Ellie though…not a fan of the actor they chose
Too bad that the real Tess actress passed away, she would’ve been great on the series. RIP
Troy Baker is a good dude. Humble about his own talents, generous in his praise in the talents of others. A class act.
Troy Baker is the goat of voice acting. Hes literally everywhere on games
Pedro is Joel and Troy is Joel 😮
Season 1 filmed in my city! One of the sets was about 2 blocks from my work, in an alley- I walked by it every work day twice. So cool to know that TLOU was coming together so close by.
I love the last of us, it came out when I was 14 years old and then seeing the show they did such a good job. It makes me emotional thank you!
I share Troy’s opinion of looking at both game and TV Joel from different angles, love them both 🔥
I'm so glad to hear it to speak of the show, he was very proud of the show.I loved watching him describe Pedro and praise his performance. I also liked him talking about the different ways of adapting a story and how HBO thought about The Last of Us. He also talked about the physical conditions of filming and the differences between filming a series and a video game.
Pedro and Troy, both are so beloved, difficult to pick one over other.
I’m so glad he did the running scene m, such a thrilling scene and the hitting the tree is actually so badass😂
I was watching the original upload and it stopped playing about 4 minutes in lol. Happy to see it re-uploaded.
same dude, i think the re upload is like 6 min shorter :(
With the games I didn't own a playstation, so i had to make a deal with my brother to borrow his playstation to play it and he gets the game after ive played it. This went on for pt 1 and 2 and they are still in my top 5 favorite games. Now with the TV show, my parents who don't play video games got to enjoy the same story and we all can geek about it together. That in my mind is what makes these video game adaptations so special is sharing these stories with an entire audience who would otherwise never have known. Troy, you and Ashley get so much respect for your dedication to this game and show, as much as Neil and Craig and the rest of the cast/crew for your parts in creating one of (in my mind) the greatest stories ever told.
7:40 YESSSSSSSS a perfect example of taking liberties and improving upon its story, Bill and Franks story was such a great episode. That episode alone gives me hope that season 2 will also make great changes to The Last of Us 2’s story while still respecting the main plot. I can not wait for season 2!
Bill and Frank’s episode broke me, especially towards the end when you hear that theme when Joel and Ellie find the giraffe in the game! I couldn’t stop myself from crying.
It was a great story, but also, not at all how their relationship in the game ended. I also am really disappointed we didn't get the interactions between Bill and Ellie
Sounds like he’s got his own sound recording at home so he can record lines any time! That’s pretty badass for a voice actor.
pretty sure he just writes and makes music lol
@@ezra5737yeah but that’s a pretty cool flex
The amount of iconic games Troy is in is crazy!! Obviously Joel, Sam from uncharted 4 and recently the new Indiana Jones game and countless others
I got a very close friend who is working on season 2 at Storm Studio in Oslo. Of course he tells me nothing, and I don't ask. But I can't wait to see it.
I still can’t believe Troy voices Joel and Sam from Uncharted. Like I can hear it, but I CAN’T HEAR IT. So talented!!
Nothing will ever replicate the characters in the game - the planets just aligned with respect to the appearance, emotion, and dialog delivery. BUT… I will say the show was spectacular in its own right and was a joy to watch.
I’m hearing the voices of so many amazing characters that impacted my life
Played the game many times, but I have to say I was totally sold on Pedro Pascal's Joel, which I really wasn't expecting.
Pedro to play Joel is perfect. He looks like Joel and he really plays the character well!
He looks like Joel’s Mexican brother
I like him as an actor but I can't see him as joel
No he’s absolutely not. We could’ve gotten Nikolai Waldu or Hugh Jackman, or Josh Brolin. What a miss.
No he’s not 😂. It’s just the radical left wing Woke garbage striking again.
Tom Cruise would be perfect to play MLK Jr. though.
P.S Joel isn’t Mexican. Sarah isn’t Black. Ellie isn’t British.
The show just made the same mistake the Part 2 game made where they wanted to shove radical left wing ideology and politics down the customers throats.
Hence why Abby is rightfully getting a lot of hate.
He should have played Abby's dad. It'd be so fitting for so many reasons. Ashley Johnson played Ellie's mother, so he should have a part like that too.
I really like troys first breakdown of Joel.. it was apparent in the game that underneath the shell, Joel was a loving father. By winter in the game, when Ellie gets captured by David, thats where his wall really comes down. In the next arc with his interactions with Ellie, he’s like a totally different character.
This man is an absolute natural treasure!!
The intro to the last of us shooting that late night show. The guy talking about the cordyceps is the same person that played Jonathan (I think his name was) in the movie “The Mummy.”
I stopped listening to "Play, Watch, Listen" because Troy is no longer a regular part of the podcast. I love his style and viewpoints; he is very intelligent and well-spoken. Love you, Troy! Keep up the great work.
Thank you for this. This was awesome.
O troy baker é um dos maiores atores grande ator. Eu sou muito fã dele todos nós games brasileiros...
If mel blanc was the man of 1000 voices then troy baker is the man of 1000 video game voices the dude is the epitome of the word legend.
i want troy baker to tell me the entire of the last of us story in joels voice in a school lesson
both are unironically and genuinely 10/10
I love this video Troy himself talking about the show and everything
The benifit of Troys hardened stoic version is when he finally lets emotion get to him it hits harder and the time that he gets impaled is shocking because of how competent he had been until that point leaving ellie in a really bad situation. The Giraffe scene hits harder then after this
This man should tackle some more acting stuff, more TV Shows and stuff. It suits him quite well
12:47 I had the same note as Troy did that I saw it as him planting himself onto something stable/solid to get the best shot.
Troy seems like such a chill dude.
The thing i love about the show was it was almost exactly like the game in most of the time and added necessary changes to areas where it made sense
it stuff like this, that, as much as i'm a bit worried about seasons 2 and 3 not translating as well, i have confidence that if anyone can do it justice, its this team
I honestly wouldn't of minded Troy playing Joel in the show. I know hes a little leaner then Joel but he could of still done it. However Pedro brought another take and showed Joel's softer side we didn't get to see and rounded out the character like Troy said. So excited for next season!
this guy played jake muller in re6? crazyyyy, the range
The man himself
15:53 I’ll never get over how wrong it was of the soldiers to knock Joel out for trying to save Ellie. He didn’t even hold a gun at them, he just wanted to save her
when you see a guy coming out of a flooded tunnel crawling with infected, including 3 bloaters, you know he's not a guy to be messed with
jokes aside, they suspected it was the immune girl from boston approaching so they didn't want to take chances
Yes, but they entered their territory and they didn't know them, it could've been a trap like the guy faking an injury in Pittsburgh. One of them clearly took over reanimating Ellie or she would've died there. And they brought both in to recover. It was a dick move to hit him in the head like that, but I understand why they didn't want to take risks.
I actually wish that instead of being cast as David’s right hand, he would’ve been cast in season 2 as Jerry. For game fans you know he would’ve been perfect for that role, for tv only viewers, you’ll find why out soon enough.
that would have been good.
Jerry is Abby’s dad right? Been a while since I’ve played Part II.
@@taxi5047 yessir
Nah, he wouldn’t look or embody the part, talented as he is. Jerry’s voice actor is his face model too and already a live action actor, they should just get him. Could’ve maybe had Troy as an older interpretation of Jason (?), the one from Abby’s crew with the bitch scar across his face.
I can see the people editing this video love the story as well. Amazing work
Edit: Even the friends meme omg
Such a goated game, with goated VAs/actors. Amazing work by everyone, me and my dad are so intertwined with this series i can't wait what's next
So happy I have met Troy, Ashley, and Laura.
i love the last of us greatly both games and show, comparing the game to the show, the game is clearly written to be a game, joel is this badass beast of a man. but what the show did differently is that their joel is more fatherly more often, even when he doesnt know it himself, and that made the game more personal for me, pedros joel reminds me of my own father, a stoic man but one with lame dad humor (the very same humor that i have HAH) in some of the later episodes he even has the same fucking hair like my dad (the overgrown "i wasnt asleep what are you talking about" hair) and i recognised myself in some of ellie. sooo long story short..... season 2 is gonna make me cry EVEN MORE than game 2 did.
Hi, I’m Joel Miller, i played the character of Troy Baker in the last of us.
Troy baker is one of the goats of video game voice acting
Every time James in the show talks I hear Joel 😢😢😢, don’t get me wrong I like Pedro he was good in the Mandolorian too but I think with an little bit of work Troy’s reprisal of Joel would of been so goooood.
"I can't wait to see where he takes him in the second."
On a short trip to the golf course, is where he takes him.
I like this game. I bought it four times, three times in the digital version and once on disk. The TV show perfectly complements it.
Drakman is a genius! Troy and Ashley - I love you.
I believe that there were many things that the show got right when adapting from the video game such as the way they made the world look and feel. The intro from John Hannah was phenomenal, that's one of my favorite scenes and every actor acted their parts amazingly but some of the small detail changes I wasn't so sure about. And It was nice to point out all the little easter eggs that were in the show from the game like some of the POVs that were shot in the show
Pedro looked really good as young Joel
10:38 "pardon the pun" is crazy lol
fully agree i wish we got an episode on ish
Holy shit troy baker thee Troy baker this guy is the best if not the perfect voice actor besides Erica Lindbeck I'm such a huge fan I love his batman acting he's the second best batman
I wish more gamers were more understanding of the show like Troy is! It’s an adaptation-they’re going to change things!
Troy: “I play Joel.”
Me: “Actually you’re James from S1 Episode 8.” 😂👌
I personally wish Joel n James went toe to toe. Fans of the game, including myself would’ve lost our minds seeing TV Joel n Game Joel fight each other. 😂
Can’t wait for S2. 🙏
I feel like the thought must have crossed their minds too but they considered it would be a bit too "meta" or jarring to take seriously for those who already played the game. Still, the idea is nice though - but it seems hard to execute.
David is quite a noticeable character in the game
i always wondered if Nolan North got offered to cameo in the show 🤔
Why is Troy not in more movies? He's a great actor and easy on the eyes. What gives?
11:33 "I can't wait to see a stunt person do this" - lmao
John Hannah is a criminally underrated actor that doesn't get mentioned nearly enough
Rewatching and replaying the last of us 🙏🤙🧡
Troy, you freaking rock. Hope to see a Bioshock Infinite expert video someday (with Courtney of course 🤞🏻)
I will never get used to Bella Ramsey's face and portraying of Ellie...
it's not just about the physical aspect, she's a completely different person in the show, unfortunately
@martincapek96 she's so ellie. they were able to explore her character more. even ashley loved her since day 1
@@smiley-4532 what do you think Ashley just gonna shit on her? of course not, she's even playing her mom and to be completely honest, how Ashley feels about Bella has zero influence on my opinion. Ellie in the game is innocent and adorable and that doesn't translate to the show one bit. It has little to do with her appearance as they make her seem bloodthirsty from the very beginning of the show, when she utterly enjoys Joel beating the soldier to death and later on cutting into a helpless infected's face for whatever reason, among other instances. Like if you didn't know Ellie from the game how can you fell in love with her in the show? you can see there's something off about her from the get go. I came into the show with an open mind and got my father to watch it with me, who never even heard about the game and we both found her annoying. She's just not a right person for her, I'm pretty sure they casted her more for the second season where she gets to be ruthless and just fucked up in the head lol, I mean look at Bella's previous role in Game of Thrones, she played strong, fearless character there too and I loved her in GoT, she was great, but she is not Ellie and can't evoke the emotions in the show for people that are introduced to TLOU for first time like Ashley did in the original. it's a completely different person.
yeah? lets see your face bud. she does a great job at being ellie. a believable teenager. you just dislike her face and so you use that as a way to hate her for everything else. shes great. your take is stupid
@@martincapek96holy yappers and you’re still wrong. ellie? innocent? adorable? what a weird take. ellie literally tried to stab joel the first time she saw him in the game. what part of that screams innocent to you? adorable? i mean come on. she was always that type of badass character
“Everybody on that crew, that show, was a fan of The Last of Us.” INDEED. slowly turns and stares at Rings of Power, Halo, and Star Wars
How did we not cover the Ellie being born scene?
troy was busy talking about himself(i like the guy but he is a bit into himself)
troy in the tlou reaction video: "I love ashley so much"
troy here: doesn't mention ashley
@@kyletotten1685 The entire video was about his role in both the game and the show. He probably wasn't even on set for the birth scene. So why would he talk about that when it had nothing to do with him?
@gagetaylor192 no the video was "Joel talks about the last of us tv show.
I wonder if troy has a specific character that he would like to be the live action version of in a tv show, from a video game that he's seen or played.
the real, actual historical figure joel miller
troy : i play joel
us : you ARE joel
I really wished that Troy and the rest of the OG cast would have been given more permanent roles in the HBO adaptation. They are all such gifted actors. It would have been so fun to see how they would have handled new characters throughout the show's run. Why Neil, whyyyy???? lol
-16? That's warm spring day here. *Laughs in Arctic Snowman*
Would love to see Laura Bailey talk about TLOU 2 on here!
