That's pretty much why I mostly avoided this series. I don't care about being reminded over and over again that celebrities are rich and can get everything they want. Something introspective like this is much more interesting and says more about who they actually are.

because of the qualities you listed he is probably not as easily manipulated by hollywood, hence giving him less opportunity.
He may be intimidating as the Punisher, but in real life he’s really chill. I wish I hung out with him.

I’ve run into him once at a TIFF event I was working at and he was by far the most professional and made all the time in the world for the people that wanted to meet him - he stood out to me amongst all his peers as being a genuine person. A friend of mine who’s in a known band ran into him the same night at a party, they were having drinks etc and concurred that he was an awesome person to meet; no ego about him at all.

He is one of the few people on this series that actually did not bring something they were trying to sell. I randomly watched a few of these and researched some of the more suspicious items and its just hilarious to me how many people brought something they are active spokespeople for... The dude picked a dog and a person... What is not to love.

Arguably one of the only few GQ 10 Essentials that are truly essential to the person. I love this episode, it's beyond genuine. And Jon is goated.
He deserves all the success! The way he talks about his dad, wife, his security person, and his dog. It's just genuine.

This energy of his just got me through the screen. Never expected him to be this way. Absolutely loved it. And how he talks about his wife and daughter. A Happy man right there

This is the most wholesome essentials episode nothing preposterous just somewhere comfortable to stand on, really basic things and what/who is important to oneself. Even the best of us can be simple and humble

The way I see it, he's basically alternative real life version of Frank Castle that never lost his family and lived happily ever after. He's such a nice, humble man. If all men had such a healthy character as Jon, the world would be a better place.

00:18 "...little stint on Walking Dead...". Bernthal was literally one of the most intense, driving-force characters in that series! Those early moments in the first season were fantastic, full of energy and completely, utterly necessary TV.

This series overstretched to much. Was very good at the beginning, then it got slow and boring. I stopped at 8 season or something like that, abandoned.
It went downhill once he left. season 3 was a snoozer

Jon's an icon of positive masculinity. I love that he appreciates what he has, and really appreciates the women in his life. He seems like a great guy. Also, that dog is stupid levels of cute.

He's such a talented actor. He was great in the walking dead and even better in The Punisher
He’s the definition of what a real man is to his family friends, and relatives. You can sense lots of great things on his character just by his essential.
Most people that I’ve watched pick materialistic designer stuff, he picks things that are close to his heart and that’s so loving of him

OK, this guy is actually the nicest example of what any human being should aspire to be.
Just his positivity, the way he looks at his wife's photo while he's talking about her, his love for dogs (and specifically bullies, which have been widely villainified for the wrong reasons), the amazing story behind the reason he chose that lady as his head of security, the fact that everyone who's met him has only good things to say about him...
I know he's never going to read this, but Mr Bernthal, i only wish the best for you and those around you.

Yup, I've seen him in over 10 movies/tv shows and he nailed every role he was in.. Since punisher was the first one (that I remembered him by atleast), it's kinda hard not to always partly look at him that way but hey atleast it's a badass role

This is arguably the most essential GQ essentials video EVER. This guy just showed you that to be a man, you don’t need a fancy watch, bag, headphones, clothes: the essentials in life are precious memories and the good people around you, everything he showed off was just mementos that remind him of that 👏👏
amen to this. I know that GQ's bread and butter is advertising and celebs advertising tacky items is good for their brand as well. But Jon's list is the textbook definition of what is essential in life: the people you love and the memories of the people who surround you, inspire you and love you. Plus I'm a huge dog guy so yeah this is the entire package.
