Hello! So the Pole thing doesn't work for me. It just rotates the bones entirely and doesn't do the result in the video and my bones are just stuck and not doing anything even though I already set the chain length. Help?
For me, this was an issue of my forearm and upper arm bones being perfectly in line. I added a slight angle change to the elbow joint in edit mode (not in pose mode, added an angle on the actual bones), which fixed the issue of them locking up no matter where I moved the wrist bone.
Most clear tutorial of the kind I've seen so far. Really well explained thanks. P.S: Instead of Alt+G, Alt+R, Alt+S, just do Shift+A to reset selected bone(s) in Pose Mode.
I have a question about setting up the splice IK constraint. I'm using Blender 3.4 . I can't select my armature as the target or any of the armature in my scene. There is no option to select anything so I'm kind of stuck on what to do.
Just so you guys know if your arm is really stiff after adding a pole target it's because you need to make the elbow slightly bent, otherwise it doesn't know where the bend in the rig is!
I tried doing IK with empties earlier and one of the arms was flailing around like it was demonically possessed so I'm definitely going to do this method later, your method looks pretty logical.

In my case the pole vector did not differ in a 9ß degree manner. Porobably thats the reason you said "usually". This might not be a big problem but I would like to know how I can fix that exactly (not by eye measure). Thank you
I don't understand, I setup my IK just as he did in the video and my elbow on my character doesn't bend or move. It only bends when the chain length is at 1, but when the value is 2 it only moves my shoulder and rotates my entire arm. If anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know!
I have a modeled spider, I want to move its body, and not its legs, but the root bone is the one that controls the body, and when I move it, the entire model moves me, I can't get the ik to move only the torso/body without the legs, any advice?
I'm not sure this will help but I was fighting for an answer for like a year and couldn't get anything to work even though I was following step by step. In the top right there's an options drop down that had a box checked that said affect only locations. Once I turned it off, I was able to finally start posing.

for the bone visual resize, you can use ctrl+shift+alt+s which worked for me

Try bending the elbow joint a bit in edit mode, that's what worked for me :)

so you need to go to edit mode, then make a little bend in the elbow, after that, it should bend normally!
