I thought this was one of the best old timers' days. DiMaggio was honored on the anniversary of his hitting streak, and some 1941 Yankees were there. I have all the introductions on tape.
During my year without YES last year, I watched some games on MLB network with other teams’ announcers. Most of them were very dull. I realized that Michael Kay is far from the worst announcer that we could be listening to in baseball at this time. He exhibits more energy and excitement in his broadcasts than most others that I heard. He also was a kid from NY and shows a certain pride for the Yankees, so I do like him for that.
That's your opinion and you're entitled to it. I also agree that most other broadcasts around the country are dull too. We are lucky here in NY to have some of the best of the best. However, Michael Kay treats his broadcast of Yankee games as if he doing his radio show. I'm sorry...after growing up listening to Murcer, Rizzuto, Kaat, Seaver and Singleton I just can't listen to Kay. In my opinion an announcer of a team should be enjoyed and loved by all. For example Sam Rosen of the Rangers is fantastic and a joy to listen to and is respected by all Ranger fans. The Met broadcast, and I hate the Mets, is more enjoyable to listen to the than the Yankees. Some people do like Kay and a lot do not. To me, that's a problem.
Well, Kay wouldn’t make my all-time Yankees broadcast team. If I was to name three all-time TV and radio broadcasters that I’d choose to listen to on a permanent basis, this is who it would be: on TV Phil Rizzuto, Bill White, and Bobby Murcer; on radio Mel Allen, Frank Messer, and John Sterling. Each would have three innings of play-by-play, three of color, and three off. I always liked that format to the broadcasts. Each announcer works part of the game with each other, and also three innings where there is a break from hearing each announcer. The other thing about Kay is that he was originally a writer, not an announcer. Like the former players who become broadcasters, he can do a good job but he also is not perfect in certain ways.
I actually enjoy listening to color from flash, Michael Kay is nothing more than a Rudolph Giuliani, loving POS (i’m probably one of the few people who thought that YES should have held on to Cameron Maybin)
These were the best days of baseball listening to Phil Rizutto. & the Yankees on WPIX!!
Holy cow!
Bobby Murcer is one of the classiest ballplayers ever! Miss him.
Besides, Mattingly, one of my absolute favorite Yankees of all time
I miss these days yankee baseball Rizutto wpix on hot summer days
One of the classiest announcers in sports announcing history. I missed Scooter in the booth along with Bobby Murcer.
Bobby had one of the best voices for baseball RiP. Mattingly's mullet is a 10
And his hands are even higher
Rizzuto and Murcer were the BEST!
Please take me back to these times :,(
Phil/white/frank = GOATs
Bobby spent time with the Giants and the Cubs but he will ALWAYS be a Yankee.
I miss Scooter so much
Murcer and Rizzuto both now gone...R.I.P.
I agree rizzuto Bill white Frank Messer WPIX 👍👍👍
*Luis Soho was so young.*
Legendary Ken Kaiser with corkscrew out call umpiring at 1st base
Old school rules.
I was at this game. They honored Joe DiMaggio on the 50th anniversary of his hitting streak. A "core memory" of me and my Dad.

Boy, Luis Soho sure made the rounds in his career. he always seems to pop up somewhere.
stevedrums
His last name was shown on the at-bat graphic, and on the back of his uniform, and you still couldn't spell it correctly?
Dullard.
He look just like a little boy back, then, but looked very well seasoned on that 96 Yankee team
I was at this game

Just a pleasure to listen to. Now we have crap with Michael Kay..just terrible

@ dwedge I’m with you Kay is horrible! Just can’t stand listening to him.

Can’t help but notice that Bobby Murcer and Phil Rizzuto have passed away. The 1991 Yankees won 71 games. They were not a good team.
I always thought that Mercer’s number should have been retired along with Jeter’s
1:02 Luis Sojo
2 #1 THAT PLAYED ON THE YANKEES... TRUE YANKEES
Who is pitching?
Greg Cadaret
He shouldn’t have been wearing Tommy John’s number
Get a haircut, Mattingly! And trim those sideburns!
Whatever you say, Stump Merrell
