This game was incredibly special to me. I was 12 years old visiting my dad for the weekend in his basement apartment, we just set up a new flat screen TV and baseball was back for the season so we were excited to get to watching some baseball. We ordered pizza and next thing we know the Yankees are not doing so great. 9 run deficit didn't really phase us, My dad and I. We were excited to be watching baseball again, but I had so much faith in my Yankees. I remember right before I took a bite of my pizza I looked over at my dad and I told him "Nick Swisher's going to hit a grand slam over the big monster and it's going to bring us back" and I could not believe how right I was. I miss this squad, I miss those days, and I miss my dad. But baseball is forever.

I checked the TV again in the top of the 9th and just wondered how in the world this was possible. They had come all the way back from one of the biggest deficits in MLB history. To this day, I regret not watching the middle of this game and keeping faith throughout. Thank you for bringing back an excellent memory.

Speaking about missing a game. I remember back to '86 Mets vs Braves. Started watching the game with my brother. Had plans to meet some friends and ended up closing our favorite watering hole. Got home 2:30am and coming up the alley way, heard the game and wondered why my brother was watching a replay? Game ended at 3:55 am. This was the year I introduced my older brother to baseball. He was a fan till his death and when I think about him, I remember the times he would bring up my missing a great game. This game is one of my reasons never to do away with extra inning games. ps. I still hate the DH rule. RIP MIKE.

After I watched them win in 1996, my love for them grew stronger and stronger. Many of us were blessed to have watched them win in 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000. And boy what a time it was to be a Yankees fan in the late 90s. The current 2022 roster could be viewed as the best put Yankees team ever and rightfully so, but I’ll go to my grave thinking the 1998 juggernaut that won 114 games was by far the best Yankees team I’ve ever seen in my 34 years of life. This was absolutely dramatic, enhanced by the Pink Floydesque theatrical music during the games most historical feat: fifteen unanswered run during the Yankees supreme surge and subjugating. The impossible comeback teaches us a useful lesson: When you are playing for your supper, life, and pride, one must pile on. Keep piling on. Take not thy foot from the gas, for there is enough time to exercise one's "gentleman's agreement" *after* the game; hence, starting the ball-in-motion of reconciliation with humanity.

I watched this game with my dad as a teenager. He explained that when unselfish play, teamwork, passion, and determination all come together for a brief moment in time, this is what it looks like. He asked me, after swisher's HR when they showed Jeter's face, Swisher batting his chest like the king of the jungle and then watching Jeter run out a weak infield ball when they were already up 14-9, he says "You feel that kiddo? It's the greatest feeling in the world, doesnt happen very often, so enjoy it when it does and make your own magic in life."
Its been 12 years since that day and I miss you Dad, we all do very much.
