Wow Adam this is so helpful I have been implementing some similar things in my life. I would like to add that sleeping and waking at roughly the same time each day (hard bc regular work-day hours are too early for most of the population and we end up sleeping too late on the weekend), eating organic with the "dirty dozen" and close to a plant-based diet and at regular intervals, getting enough light/vitamin D to regulate our circadian rhythm and limiting stress are all crucial for me to battle the lack of concentration and inattention that comes from trauma and trauma recovery. The studies you showed of cognitive impairment mimic my own experience of using my phone, but may i add one thing: it is not just "screen time" but also the quality of screen time. I can no longer pretend that it is not negatively affecting my brain to read articles online with ads flashing in and out of my vision. Also, shortening my commute time was essential in reducing stress (in the forms of noise, alertness to danger in the proximity, and the flashing ads in the subway as well). Thank you for mentioning exercise as an important part of mental hygeine. I look forward to keeping on top of your channel as it is informative, gentle and practical. I will add that de-cluttering has been essential for me, as well as having almost bare walls in my home and minimal furnishings so that i have more non-thinking programmed into my day by virtue of a space that is "quiet on the eyes." Have you looked into blue light? Also, i think you might have mentioned this, but spending time in nature and with an animal can support heathy endorphins and have a calming effect. I like how you made clear that there is no one perfect solution, but putting some good ideas together in a routine can help some of us tread water and keep our jobs while we continue to make incremental change. Great video!
This was. Well done! As I home school mom of teenagers due to being behind academically, Due to these issues that even Mom has, its harder than when I worked. I cant leave this job. I have to keep the daily shedule of all of us and have us check each task in Order to follow through until Bedtime. All of this discipline has been so rewarding to see , Especially when others not eating well or working out are looking on. One of the most rewarding things Was handing My kids the bible Allowing them meditation time which brought such peace to our crazy scedules. For me it was thirty years ago when a doctor gave me medication. Didn't work out. I returned it to him and picked up the bible. Yes the Lord balanced me out, He helped me of many Unhealthy choices And then led me to a great schedule like You're doing. I'm gonna show this to the kids and let them be encouraged , Other people have the same struggles, Thanks for being vulnerable with ur beautiful video, Thank you dearly❤
As I said before, thank you for posting this. I look forward to your viewpoint on accommodations. I find it hard to explain to others why true accommodations are needed.
Thanks for the encouragement. Yes, to be honest I'm really challenging myself with pledging to do a video on that in the near future. I'm slowly realizing that the work really is on the community to tell companies what we need, and that is a daunting task. Like I wonder if I had a company, what would I do? How do you strike the balance between accommodating employees but still keep your business running, making sure people in their roles are able to do them effectively. Do you think it's hard to explain why they're needed because people don't understand the effort we have to put in in the first place?
I have ADHD and autism makes for a difficult work life for sure
