    This was. Well done! As I home school mom of teenagers due to being behind academically, Due to these issues that even Mom has, its harder than when I worked. I cant leave this job. I have to keep the daily shedule of all of us and have us check each task in Order to follow through until Bedtime. All of this discipline has been so rewarding to see , Especially when others not eating well or working out are looking on. One of the most rewarding things Was handing My kids the bible Allowing them meditation time which brought such peace to our crazy scedules. For me it was thirty years ago when a doctor gave me medication. Didn't work out. I returned it to him and picked up the bible. Yes the Lord balanced me out, He helped me of many Unhealthy choices And then led me to a great schedule like You're doing. I'm gonna show this to the kids and let them be encouraged , Other people have the same struggles, Thanks for being vulnerable with ur beautiful video, Thank you dearly❤

    this is why I make 2 grocery lists the first is based on my house, cuz i walk the house to make the list the second list is based on stores. 1 column for walmart, the second column for whole foods, and a 3rd section for whatever 3rd store may have other odds and ends, say seafood market or whatnot the second list is optimized for how i do my grocery run. personal hygiene, then pharmacy, then cleaning products, dairy, sodas, rear grocery store items working my way forward until i get to front grocery items. essentially i enter from the right, go to the back left and work my way forward, and make a note on what items walmart is missing and buy that from my local grocery store. namely Mccormick Grill mates, my local store has ALL OF THEM. but walmart only has a few maybe 3 or 4 flavours.

    Wow Adam this is so helpful I have been implementing some similar things in my life. I would like to add that sleeping and waking at roughly the same time each day (hard bc regular work-day hours are too early for most of the population and we end up sleeping too late on the weekend), eating organic with the "dirty dozen" and close to a plant-based diet and at regular intervals, getting enough light/vitamin D to regulate our circadian rhythm and limiting stress are all crucial for me to battle the lack of concentration and inattention that comes from trauma and trauma recovery. The studies you showed of cognitive impairment mimic my own experience of using my phone, but may i add one thing: it is not just "screen time" but also the quality of screen time. I can no longer pretend that it is not negatively affecting my brain to read articles online with ads flashing in and out of my vision. Also, shortening my commute time was essential in reducing stress (in the forms of noise, alertness to danger in the proximity, and the flashing ads in the subway as well). Thank you for mentioning exercise as an important part of mental hygeine. I look forward to keeping on top of your channel as it is informative, gentle and practical. I will add that de-cluttering has been essential for me, as well as having almost bare walls in my home and minimal furnishings so that i have more non-thinking programmed into my day by virtue of a space that is "quiet on the eyes." Have you looked into blue light? Also, i think you might have mentioned this, but spending time in nature and with an animal can support heathy endorphins and have a calming effect. I like how you made clear that there is no one perfect solution, but putting some good ideas together in a routine can help some of us tread water and keep our jobs while we continue to make incremental change. Great video!

      Thanks for the encouragement. Yes, to be honest I'm really challenging myself with pledging to do a video on that in the near future. I'm slowly realizing that the work really is on the community to tell companies what we need, and that is a daunting task. Like I wonder if I had a company, what would I do? How do you strike the balance between accommodating employees but still keep your business running, making sure people in their roles are able to do them effectively. Do you think it's hard to explain why they're needed because people don't understand the effort we have to put in in the first place?

    Thank you for making these videos. I really like your calm tone of voice and way of explaining things. Very inspiring. Even though i'm a single mom, and my life situation is a lot different from yours, your advice and your examples of what you do are still super helpful, and inspired me to do some things differently myself. I don't have the option to reschedule stuff, and time off is rarely time off when you have kids, as there is an endless list of stuff that needs to get done. But here are my thoughts, maybe they will inspire someone else too. -On bad days, dinner is one of my toughest hurdles to get through. So making double portions of freezer-friendly dinners will be a priority for the next while, so i have something that is easy to get ready. -Maybe a saturday just gets to be a Disney marathon instead of cleaning the whole house and trying to get kids to do as they are told and not get in the way. -Or maybe we go to a park with a playground, so the kids can run around and play while i sit in peace on a blanket in the shade. - Here is something i already try to do: tell people close to you that you are having a bad day might help too. That way, they will know that today is not a good day for that big thing they need to discuss with you. And if you end up snapping at them, they might treat you with kindness and forgiveness because they understand where it came from, rather than take it personal, get angry at you and snap back. This has to be done in a good way of course, and maybe you need to talk with them beforehand on a good day, explain where you are coming from, and make an agreement with them about what you each do in those situations. Listen to their point of view too. It can't just be the "you better not cross me today -approach". I have an agreement with my kids, that they can always ask me how i am doing, or if i am angry, and i will be honest and kind with them. If i am just busy or energetic, they get an explanation, and if i am actually having a bad day, them asking me is often a sign to me that i need to slow down, recenter myself, and give them some reassurance and positive attention. This takes some practice, but a hug and a sincere apology goes a long way.

    I heard someone once say that having ADHD is like having bees in our brain. That makes so much sense in this context. So the ADHD is the bees, and all the distractions we engage ourselves in are like feeding the bees sugar. They get all hyped up like toddlers at a birtday party, and start multiplying, so now you have even more bees, who crave even more sugar.

    I'm wondering how this could work for people who live in a small space where they don't have an extra room that is relatively empty. I'd say that I could find distractions anywhere in our flat. Even if it's just cleaning it 😅. I think I often take this "time out"time when I wake up in the morning and "don't manage" to get up. Then I look in the air and let my thoughts wander around. The only bad thing with it, is that I usually have a reason why I wanted to get up and this often ends up in me beeing late 😅. Even though I'm often angry at myself for staying in bed and everything I know for sure that my system also benefits from it. Would be great to manage to take that "time out time" consciously - also without being in nature... 😊

    • @AdamGrantDotInfo
      @AdamGrantDotInfo 4 месяца назад

      Good question. I have the luxury of having rooms in my house where I could be doing this which is a big difference from my apartment in NYC. ...but I don't use that room. I prefer to do this at work and I will actually book a meeting room for just me. It's actually better that I'm not at home with the temptations of home comfort pulling me out of time out. Depending on your work environment, this may not be an option for you either. At which point I would say this is something you'll need to explore more. Is there somewhere you could go that is separated from your usual space? I've also used a shower room without turning on the shower or the couches in the atrium of a neighboring building with my AirPods playing ambient music to drown out noise.

    • @fifafafo4914
      @fifafafo4914 4 месяца назад

      @@AdamGrantDotInfo thanks for sharing. I'll keep exploring :) Even if I would have the "perfect" space and the "plan" to do it, i guess it would still be hard for me to really do it since classic time management is not really my strenth . I mostly get everything done bot often I do many important things during the night. It's so much easier for me to enjoy a calm brain when the rest of the world is asleep:) since that kind of "Rythm" has a lot of disadvantages for me I keep trying to change it. Guess if I would manage to creat "calm time out" setting during the day that would definitely help in getting sleep during the night too 😅

    • @AdamGrantDotInfo
      @AdamGrantDotInfo 4 месяца назад

      @fifafafo4914 that makes sense you have to find a way that works for you and a time of day that works for you as well. I think this is more like eating your vegetables and going to the gym in that even if it's good advice, it's still can be hard to motivate yourself to do. A lot of times I drag myself to these prescheduled sessions kicking and screaming, but I just try to get myself there

    • @KnittedSister
      @KnittedSister 4 месяца назад

      I agree very much with all the above. And i have a few suggestions. Maybe start with just 10 or 15 minutes if half an hour is unachievable. Practice for a bit and see what it does. Also, my first thought was if it was possible for you to set your morning alarm for half an hour early, so instead of laying there, stressing out over getting started on your day, you knew that for the next half hour, you just have to lay there and do nothing. (If that won't impact the amount of sleep you are able to get in too much of a negative way, of course. ) then have another alarm go off at your usual time, and your brain might be more ready to get going. Imo there's a possibility that you might benefit more from the half an hour of timeout, than you would have from the extra sleep. Or maybe the last half hour before bed? It might make a good wind down after the day is done. This might also help with not having a screen in front of ones face right before bed. (I am super guilty of ruining my own sleep with doomscrolling at bedtime.) Try harnessing the ADHD appetite for novelty to try out some different times of the day, and be curious about what it does or doesn't do for you. Btw, i know that none of my suggestions are easy to achieve with an ADHD brain, and i know nothing abt your life, so i might have missed the mark completely, i just think we need someone to come in with a different pov sometimes, to get us unstuck and looking at things differently. It is not easy living with a brain full of bees.
