Carter McLean could sell a ketchup popsicle to a lady in white gloves
Doesn't sound too shabby, tbh.
Ketchup popsicle?
Joseph Kalina I love RUclips. Half the time I’m just reading the comments. This was a very original comment. Haha
@@michaelcarter8620 😂
@@DavidDantePhoenix nope.not that movie.try again
6:33...it's me Mario!!!🤣
Legacy!
Legacy for the high tuning, Classic Maple for the lower tunings. Both sound exceptional and Carter, your playing is a pure joy to listen to.
This.
I am not even a drummer bit see this man play.....fascinating
They both sound amazing with the high tuning. The Classics seem to have a bit more attack but only very slightly. I'd be happy with either kit!
I simply LOVE the Heritage Green color.... and...very tasty playing...
I'm just here for the drumming.
Like all of us
Oh whoa! The Legacy kit has such a beautiful warmth to it!
They don't call it "Legacy" for nothing. Best sounding to my ears, with that quintessential classic Ludwig sound..
The legacy sounded better. However depending on the song, the other model may be better in a song mix.
Good because I may be getting one tomorrow! :D
I just bought a classic maple. Glad I did as I think they have more body in tone than the legacy.
Love both! Legacy definitely 'warmer, rounder, more lush, vintage' sounding. Classic Maple 'sharper', more 'modern' sounding in a way. Great playing, great tuning...
Hands down Legacy Maple, in any tuning. I just dig their smooth, warm, round sound.
Beautiful-sounding drums and beautiful playing
I love the Legacy over all. Beautiful sound. But the low tuning may go to the classic maple. Those toms are powerful.
If I had to choose one, I'd take the Legacy kit, but they both sound fantastic.
Great video! Although I did notice you're playing the Legacy bass drum when reviewing the Classic kit on low tuning
Geez, how I just love watching and listening to this cat play! What else can I say?
Oh god. Those both sound phenomenal! Your playing is so good and effortless. I love your groove and ride work! I'm really jealous at how dynamic your playing is. You sir, are a pro!
that snare from 6:55 OMG!!! you, sir, master your craft!
To my ears the Legacy toms sound more open and full at the high tuning, especially compared at low volume. The Classic kit wants to be tuned low.
Two amazing drum kits. The Legacy is much more open and resonant. They really sing a lot in high tunning.
The Classic is more punchy and choked. Powerful in low tunning.
Amazing cymbals and otherworldly playing. Great articulation and groove. Tasty!
I agree with a previous comment: Legacy Maple for high tuning, Classic Maple for low tuning. But both sound great in both situations. Very nice drums. However, considering the cost difference, the Classic maple wins my vote.
You are truly incredible. When you play you put a smile on anyones face. It just makes my day listening to you play drums, plus its really inspiring. Great work!
THANK YOU!
By far one of the best drummer I have ever heard. Greetings from Chile mate!
Now that was a Fricken Excellent Demo. Legacy for Jazz. Classic for everything else.
Oh, I really like the sound of the Ludwig Legacy Maple kit! Beautiful. Thanks for letting me know what to buy once I have the space - haha. Great playing too!
Apples and oranges my friend. Both sound absolutely beautiful and distinct. DW pales in comparison.
thanks for this show
Carter has a beautiful dynamic touch that and a softer technique than most. The Legacy was more articulate (with both tunings) with Carter's style of playing IMO, but a heavier hitter that played less ghost notes might find the classic maple for fitting especially in the lower tuning. Props for the Max Roach inspired segment! I would love to have either set!
The classic maples sound close-mic’d, the legacy maples sound naturally mic’d. Both sound amazing and I’d trade up to them in a heartbeat.
For me, Legacy maple, high tuning, and Classic Maple, low tuning..
Agree 100% Good call.
Yeah, same here.
opino lo mismo... suena mucho mejor en esas formas
agree
Very musical sound and playing
The Legacy Maple 3-ply shells "pop" more, similar to vintage Ludwig 3-ply. The CM has a more linear decay and response. Legacy Maple is my preference.
Can't tell a difference at all. If I was told what I was playing I'd believe the legacy was the one, but honestly both sound about same on my speakers. In person I may be able to tell, but both sound damn good. Whichever makes you wanna play more is the right one. That green is ugly and beautiful all at the same time.
Increible ambas! Saludos desde Argentina!
I like both kits. Both have a unique sound. In my opinion, their both great for different applications.
I’d love to have the 45 degree edges for the rack tom and rounded over edges for the floor and kick.
Classic Maple by a nose....both sound great.
wow! surprised how different the kits sounded. Really liked the Legacy. generally don't like low turnings that much but these were awesome when Carter plays them.
Love that legacy maple
Beautiful touch
What do I think? Well, I think it all sounds fantastic! And I think if you played my old drums, I would want to buy them all over again 😆 you are a joy to listen to and watch play.
Would prefer Legacy which is my main kit . But I am allways really pleased with my CM !
Both tuning is right for these drums ! And Carter , you are a Master !
Nice Drumming !... bravo!
Both sound great, but I'll always gravitate towards drums with high-end snap. Growing up playing Recording Customs has ruined me 🙂. And, that snare sounds incredible, as well. Btw...please list the cymbal setup. Would love to know what hats those are. Just a killer all-around sound. Always inspiring to listen to you, Carter!
Thanks for this. It was great too. I'd like to hear a super classic/legacy test.
Thank you for this! Will be signing up for the new site day of launch!
Hey Carter, Ian‘s friend Dave up here in Vermont. I went with him to your clinic in Portsmouth New Hampshire a while back. For my playing and my ear I really like the first legacy higher tuning although they all sound great. My first kit was a 1961 three ply mahogany Ludwig. Wish I still had it!
That green though. 🔥
Legacy maple here, but still prefer mahogany.
Love the low tuning.
Ive got an old set of luds, now called legacys and a set of classics from when they first came out. They both sound great. i tend to lean towards the classics. Both have different charactoristics and both are very versitle.
IMPRESIONANTE! AWESOME
cool as a cucumber. I bet his throne doesn't even get moist. legend!
I own a set of 2018 Classic Maple drums, this is a very accurate representation of how they sound in the room. In this video I prefer the high tuning on the Classic, and the low tuning on the Legacy.
the legacy maple is probably my favorite, the color is awesome too!!!
Surprised how much more I liked the legacy maples.
Chào bạn nhiều lắm hay quá 👍♥️
I prefer the Legacy for tone, low & high, but owned a the classic maple Downbeat in mod orange during 05/06, and that set kicked butt. Been a Ludwig guy my whole. I dig the way you play, & lovin' those cymbals, too!
Classic Maple for modern rock - more attack, brighter. Legacy Maple for more indie or retro stuff - warmer, rounder.
They both sound great! The green kit is a little warmer sounding?
Your drumming is phenomenal!
I love how he plays with the "whatever" face but actually destroys all the other drummers
Many incredible drummers go into that "whatever" face cause they're focused as all hell. It doesn't manifest the same in all drummers but that's one of the ways.
Came for the playing - stayed for the playing
Both sound great but I prefer the attack and volume of the classic maples if I had to choose.
Jo-Jo Moceri drums Same. A little rounder sounding.
Does it really matter?😊 not to me it doesn't. As long as I got my own cymbals and snare I can make whatever junk kit work. You know what I'm talking about, man.
With Remo only; what r your batter/reso pairings for coated and clear Ambassadors and Emperors? Your achieved sound is perfect on video.
I prefer the Classic Maple, wider tuning range.
the red 60's Club Dates for sure :D
Great kits. like cymbals. what is?
Great playing bro!
Did you leave the legacy maple bass drum on when demoing the classic maple at a low tuning?
I noticed the same thing!
Dude love those cymbals. What are they?
Also I’d say I’d use each kit for different things. For Studio Recording/ at home, I’d use the Legacy Maples Hands down. For live I’d use the classic maples because of the added projection!
Both sound great. Was there a bass drum malfunction here. Seems the kits are mixed in the low tuning of the Classic.
Master que over head usas?
So juicy and super groovy!! 🔥👌🎶
Восхитительно!
Did anyone else catch him not switching out the kick when he played the Classic Maple in low tuning? I wonder why? However, it makes no difference to how he flow's around the kit like a symphony
Bobby1502Jetty good eye. Yes wondering why as well
LAZY sorrry.
Yes I did.
@@cartermclean my apologies Carter for waiting so long to reply. I'm just lazy🤓 From one Ludwig gentleman to another thank you for your wonderful tutorials. 🤝🏼
can you name a snare that sounds close to the Caropathian? cant afford 1.5 K. but love it!
why not legacy maple vs legacy mahagony?
They sound great I especially like the Legacy kit but both are killer! How do you have them mic'd they sound soooo good?
voto por la Legacy!
Satisfying
Jeepers man. It's a joy just watching you play. Super inspiring. PS. How much do go into tom tuning in your course membership?
What’s your recording set up?
I'm looking for vintage sounding drum set like you have. But sadly Ludwig classic maple & legacy maple drum set is too over priced in S.Korea. We have to spend at least 200 bucks more than U.S. So I have to think about some other drum set such as Sonor Vintage series. Because it doesn't has serious cost difference. Have you guys consider Sonor vintage drum set as similar rate with Ludwig vintage set? or willing to purchase it over Ludwig series even if you have enough money for purchase any options? I know this could be silly question but just out of curiosity. It seems like beech shell has sharp and cutting sounds from other youtube drums review channel. Is it just only me feeling that way? Anyway great sounding drum set. Especially legacy one is all time favorite. But I kinda think that it's overpriced drum set not only in S.Korea. Why I feel like we have to spend more money to buy old fashion designed drum set? I mean I respect the legacy not the price.
The sonor vintage series are hard to beat.Check out British drum company. There amazing.
What are the sizes?
I think the Legacy sounds very Ludwig, the classic sounds similar to other maple drums from other brands.
Why is the Legacy bass drum used for the lower tuning segment of the Classic Maple drum set?
You should do a video on your mic'ing and mixing for these videos!

Main difference seems to be the overtones on the legacy unless I’m missing something?
I obviously suck at tuning drums. I have the same size Classic Maple and I can't get my toms to sound that thunderous and you don't even have any close mics. Must have cranked the low end on the EQ.
6:33 again! hahahaha
Carter, can you please tell us the intervals between the top and bottom heads for the toms and kick for the high tuning Legacy performance? Thank you
I believe they’re a 5th apart
Blues for big sid at 0.47 min
Great tone man.. earthworks microphones??! Cant see them
Nice
Legacy win! 😍😍
Mr. McLean, you sold me on the legacy maple. That 12 is one of the best tom sounds I’ve ever heard. Do you mind sharing the depth on it? 8x12? Any thoughts on if 9x12 would work well for alt rock (like Radiohead)? If you get this, thank you for your time.
That was helpful - Classic Maple all the way!
He gots some chops … oh and the drums don’t sound too bad … 😉
