- Yep - it happens..
It started out as a challenge to see if I could walk to the pub in the next village and get the Mini 4 Pro there on 3 batteries (and with really rather challenging lighting conditions as you'll see!).
Yes there's a crash, but that's not really what this video is about. It's more of a meandering waffle, chat and random 'topic drift', but most importantly it's dedicated to the people that have subscribed to the channel and give me feedback and encouragement every day. I think I get a genuine dopamine hit every time I see a new comment, so thankyou.... 💗
You are all awesome and I want you ALL to come for a pint, but I think we might have issues fitting us all in the pub, so we might have to do it in shifts... 🍻🤣

Cheers Paul - I think a touch of superglue may save me from having to send it off - keep your fingers crossed for me!.
Don't let the fear of crashing hold you back *too* much - just make sure you only fly in sport mode in wide open areas and if not then fly in normal or cine and make sure obstacle avoidance is set to 'normal' not nifty or even just set it to brake mode fi being extra cautious. When tracking, set the camera to 'normal' not 'quick'. It's no guarantee that you won't crash, but these settings will minimise the risk. And obviously just be really careful around 'twiggy branches' and wires! (not like me! 😳🤣)
Regarding the trolls - most of the time I just find them entertaining, and if I don't I'll just send my son round to deal with them! He has 'a very particular set of skills' 🪖😉😆

Weird you should comment right at this moment - I was literally just watching that back just now - When I was editing it I thought it was just my magnetic personality interfering with it at the time🤣🤭, but pretty sure it got fixed in a firmware update since that vid.

Great video beautiful scenery, apart from the potholes. really enjoyable content, shame about the crash! but if it helps modellers glue "liquid polly" is the glue to go to for the mini 4 and most other dji mini's just don't over do it , let it set overnight it will fuse together perfectly 👍
Thanks - Yep - I've used a dab of Loctite on the sleeve and that seems to do the trick, but thankyou about the tip on liquid polly - if the Loctite doesn't seem up to snuff, (I'm thinking it may be slightly too brittle) I'll give it a go. Thankyou so much 👍🖖

Hi I’m from Montreal Quebec Canada. Sorry that you crashed the Mini 4 Pro! Live in the beautiful countryside north of Montreal on the mille isles river! We’re having a nice warm early March which is more like our April like weather. I have the Mini 3 pro since the summer of 2022 and the Mavic 3 since December 2022. Love them both. I’ve only had one crash so far out of my 100s of flights since then. I’m overly cautious. I know about the fact that the obstacle avoidance can’t avoid tree twigs nor power lines etc.. So I only do Active track (Active shots now) only in open spaces and away from obstacles. Summer flights, waypoints etc.. all the features. Night flying etc.. I don’t have a drone flyer nor Nomad traveller RUclips channel yet but will create a nomad traveller one and a videography one once I’m retired. I’m almost 66 in 3 months and on the verge of retirement from public school teaching since 30 years. So I,ll have a good pension. I’ve done many amazing range test fly around type creations with my Final Cut Pro in our tons of snow here and also above the ocean and beach last summer. So about my one and only crash story. It happened was when I practiced my bike riding tracking which worked great and went around trees. Then I went into a small space and the mini 3 drone refused to go into it. My crash was totally my mistake. I accidentally pushed the drone up and it hit a twig and crashed onto the asphalt. Oh no! 🥲 Camera gimbal fell off, broken. Also chipped on the body and propellers. So i sent it back to DJI and they sent me a new one. Wow that’s great! Love my Mini 3 pro and Mavic 3. So far hundreds of flights and I intent to never crash any of these big investments again! yes extremely cautious! Probably boring flights but nice video creations that are definitely portable. I managed to fly in open country side my 2 drones very far and back. Range test flights. Flying back at 50% when flying back with the wind. 60% when flying back against the wind. I’ve studied all the procédures, checking the environnement, UAV app and others. Windy app etc.. I made amazing video productions of both of these drones and their amazing range flight videos. I'm very jealous - I wish we were able to do range tests in the UK, but unfortunately flying beyond visual line of sight is against the law here😔.
You may have seen the RUclips channel 'PhillyDroneLife' - he's got into a 'bit of a pickle' with the authorities over his drone flights flying miles away over the city and is being fined hundreds of thousands of dollars for it!
The closest I can get to a range test is going on a long walk with mine (and we all know how that turned out! 🤣)

I fly in unrestricted areas using drone map apps! I also do lots of fly around types within a few kilometers and also often visual line of sight flights too! LOL I always see it however on my controller! Honestly when doing real visual line of sight flights one can’t really see the drone itself beyond 200 meters! I want to get into fpv flying soon as well. I’ll get the googles and avata! Also the motion controller and fpv controller to develop better fpv skills. I know that in North America the FCC range is bigger than in Europe which has more restrictions (CE) yep I’ve watched the Philly drone life guy who’s quite humorous as you are as well. Yep he flies in Philadelphia which I’m sure the us drone map doesn’t allow one to fly in major cities! In my beautiful city here of Montreal one isn’t allowed recreational drone flying unless you get a special permit! I think the permit is allowed for movies or sports events on tv etc.. as well as professional city 4K drone videos

I wear the surgical gloves I have left over from covid! Only thin but they keep my hands warm surprisingly and allow me to touch the screen with no issues!

Hello mate sorry about the crash that's the only trouble when the trees are bear. I do a lot of active track with my mini 4 and Air 3 with my electric bake and my car, I love it. I noticed you put your first battery on charge straight away without a cool down period, it's not good for the battery and it could be a fire hazard.
Anyway you keep the videos coming I'll look forward to the next one.

Object avoidance is a brilliant feature, but it has it's limits.🤣 It's not too great with small twigs. Like your style though and the responsible way you fly. One question for you. How come we can't hear the drone on the audio? cos sometimes it is quite close. Hope you get your drone back soon, carry on the good channel.👍
Thankyou so much Bathog. LUCKILY I think I've been able to fix the arm with superglue - it had just been dislodged from it's sleeve, so I was able to slide it back in a just put a dab on. Time will tell, but I'm quite confident I may have dodged having to send it off! 🤞Follow up vid coming up this week...
As far as the sound of the drone is concerned, that's Davinci Resolve Studio for you . It has a voice isolation mode which is amazing - you can control how much isolation there is, although too much and it can start to make the dialogue a bit distorted.
I also use the DJI Mic 2 which has a noise cancellation mode, BUT it cancels virtually all noise apart from the voice and I prefer to be able to control it to let a bit of the atmos bleed through for a more natural sound (Jeez I'm starting to sound like a right AV geek! 😂).

Managed to get a replacement Top Cover quite cheaply, and fixed it good as new. I now have the mini 4 pro which, as you know, is an awesome bit of tech. I also use Davinci Resolve and that's pretty amazing as well. I have the free version. You may have just convinced me to upgrade.😁

Seriously though, I always fly sober and sometimes reward myself with a pint afterwards. I cock up enough when I'm sober, so I don't need alcohol in the mix as well!
It's a good point though - Best case scenario you damage your drone - worst case you damage someone else's property or, god forbid, injure someone. You'd be in deep doo-doo then and even indemnity insurance probably wouldn't cover you. It would be contravening the ANO (Air Navigation Order) which, in brief, says that you must not fly in such a way that it causes risk of damage to people or property.

Here's an idea for you ?. I got a Gnd filter for my dji mini 4 pro, and what a brilliant filter. I've haven't seen anyone doing a video on them sort of nd filters, and I would think that would bring in some more viewers for yourself. I got the startrc 16 gnd filter from Aliexpress 🎉

Ah yes, now I remember - the old 'JJ Abrams effect'! You say you haven't seen anyone doing a video one them, but you just sent me a link to The Drone Creative's video! 😂😉 - He's a ledge isn't he? I could defo go for a GND though - I could have done with it when I was filming this vid TBH - Sky was really bright, but the sun was constantly behind clouds making the ground dark - was a nightmare to colour grade and I still don't think I did a great job of that!.

I’m using the same power bank as in your video description for my drone, however, what strap do you use for your controller? I wonder if it’s compatible with the 3 pro as I’ve not upgraded to the 4 yet!

Also comes with a 2 screen protectors that fit the RC, which is why I originally purchased it - the whole lot is only a tenner, but as far as screen protectors go I would recommend getting these matte ones as the reduce reflections (I use one on my RC2, but they will fit the original RC) :

And yes, it's also compatible with the RC controller that comes with the Mini 3 pro, because that's what I originally bought it for. I have to say that it's uncomfortable when worn around the neck as the neck pad is too wide for me personally, which is why I sling it over my shoulder (and then get it all tangled up with my backpack straps when I take it off 😂).
For the audio sync - re-watch the vid and at around the 17 minute mark there's a clue.

That's a really good question, thankyou!
It was a big update just before Christmas, so I suspect there won't be that much more in the bag for a while, but you never know!
Off the top of my head 've got two things on my wish list :
1. A mode that dynamically updates the home point every 'x' seconds/minutes to save you having to dig into the menus and do it manually - would be so useful when filming vids like this one, but also in general for when someone it out hiking or filming from a moving boat.
2. An option to immediately start recoding when you power on the aircraft - you wouldn't believe the amount of time I have forgotten to hit record and have effectively just been doing some 'fancy flying' (I know I'm not alone on this and anyone that says it hasn't happened to them is telling porkies and needs their bottom slapped! 🤣) I believe Skydio had this option so I know it's possible.
I flew once 500 meters, with a connection with 100 per cent, and then realized I hadn't opened the antennas 😂
@@garylinnane917 same happens to me more often than I’d care to admit! Perhaps some little motors that automatically open the antennas when you power up the RC would be a good hardware upgrade. Unlikely to happen and kindof ‘sledgehammer to crack a nut’ but it would look really cool! 😎
How does it cost a load once you have purchased the drone? The electric bill?
It's a fair question and thanks for asking. The short answer is - There are always NEW drones! 🤣
The slightly longer and more boring answer is :
There's a not insignificant amount that I've invested already to facilitate me being a content creator, but I'm still not at the standard that I believe subscribers deserve. For example, there is lighting, software and sound that is still not up to a standard that I would like to provide.
Along with this, the tech landscape is always changing. If people that watch the channel want to find out about new drones or new gadgets etc, then being an 'early adopter' is inevitable and expensive.
A Sisyphean task, but it's also not just a case of trying to recoup the costs of what I've already spent, but to ideally get to a point where the channel is self, or at least partially self funding and I can fully concentrate on content as opposed to cost.
The closer I can get to that, the better the quality of content I can provide. Realistically however, I don't think I'll be able to give up the day job any time soon, and I'm certainly not expecting to make a profit! 😉🖖
