I have quite a few drones from DJI, love them and have mostly good experiences with them, but my experience with Mini4 Pro lasted for about 15 min. Everybody said how well and great the active track worked, so after flying for about 14 min I tried it out, It was about 1 min in the air before it crashed into a substantial tree fell to the floor and broke. So I mailed DJI gave them my reports and told them that I did not fly the drone but AI did it, so they should take care of the incident. Well they came back to me, quite helpful in a way and told me sorry but it was pilot error, even though I did not fly the drone.
Your first point is KEY! I film boats, while on boats, moving at up to 50mph. I could never figure out why there isn’t a “return to controller” feature. That would save me the constant heart attacks if I lose sight of the drone for a second, while doing 50mph! 😮😅
RTH to the controller might seem like a good idea but then some dufus would activate RTH to the controller and the drone would hit them on the head as it descends to land. Lawsuit. It’s really not a good idea.
@@CAMTechChris There are drone licenses required for a reason. No one goes out on the street buying a car without or even with a license and crashes into a pole and sues the pole. If someone is that dumb they them self get put into the prison/gets a fine for not knowing how to operate basic human inventions. Not a valid point at all.. If you didn't read T&C that's your own fault. In T&C it clearly states that you are required to learn all the basic rules of flying a drone and following the local regulations which state, you should be aware of the drones position / keep it in line of sight at all time and always make sure for a safe landing. It's the pilot responsibility for all that
@@CAMTechChris That thing has crash control on all sides. Return to Controller could also mean one meter in front of the controller. Or, it could mean hover at 2meters over the controller so it can be grabbed.
For flying in rain or moisture I will place masking tape or any tape covering the USB and SD slots. No big issue, it might be a couple of times a year…..
this, and they also intentionally withhold features and mess things up, so that they can sell it in the next version, they give us just enough for it be worthwhile, where as competitors do everything they can to make a perfect product but are unfortunately hampered by inferior tech, oh and dont get me started on how in this world of symbiotic relationships between brands and content creators the game is to slowly 'fix' the product with firmware updates over the lifetime of the product cycle to garner constant news headlines
dji market the RC2 as having external antenna for better signal and totally ignore how they're fragile and also quite annoying to have to fold out, and at the same time they market the DJI FPV remote 3 as having no external antenna so it's more convenient and quicker to deploy... it's so absurd
This is the case for all companies who are at the cutting edge of innovation, as consumers we have to realise it and if you’re an early adopter like me you have to recognise companies will exploit your weakness for the latest thing, and your susceptibility to influencers - like this channel (with the greatest respect Darren as I do value your videos). Anyway, having bought the mini 4 Even though I had the mini 3 I do utilise those next steps and incremental benefits and will probably buy the mini five as soon as it comes out. in the meantime, I will await the arrival of my M4 iPad Pro and the latest version of Final Cut pro for iPad to edit all the lovely footage from my latest DJI drone no matter what they are withholding. 🤣🤣 life will be simpler and cheaper if I wasn’t an early adopter 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Every tech company does this for products at this price point. Just don’t be a brainless consumer. If the value proposition isn’t good enough for you then just upgrade every few generations.
I agree that you should buy the fly more kit to get the three batteries - but also buy one more battery so there is always one in the drone. 👍🏻 Also buy the Philips 000 screw driver you’ll never regret that purchase.
10:56 DJI Spark had the push-and-twist as well. Easy to do a quick check that the propeller "feet" are intact. Disappointing to learn M4P requires a screwdriver.
I agree with the home point update. Same happened to me, had plenty of battery but because I had moved from the home point the drone calculated what it needed to get back to that home point and took off to get back there. Then I was hauling butt to get back there. And there it was just there on the ground I’ll always remember to set it to hover when on my bike
Couldn’t agree more to what you said about the RTH function. What you describe is exactly what happened to me. Being on a downhill with my mountainbike, the Mini 4 Pro ran into low battery and as my controller was in the backpack, I was not able to react in time and cancel the RTH process. The drone went back uphill to the home point and was waiting for me, while I had to climb back the hill to the top. For me it would be the most important improvement to be able to set the controller as the home point.
I think the way the props are mounted is ok, admittedly not as convenient as on the air series but just changing to Torx screws would improve things no end.
My biggest gripe is the frame of the body - it's so thin to keep the weight down while packing in all the tech so it's so thin and makes this creaking/cracking sound when handled!
Be ok if, while your in tracking mode that you could press c1 or c2 to be able to update home point rather than pulling down and scrolling to find update home point.
HI there. One point on the Mini 4 propellers and the screwdriver. I went and got a higher quality one at a hardware store. It is very easy to strip these screws if you do not get the screwdriver in the screw exactly right.
Excellent video and all points mentioned.. I trashed the screwdriver, bought a proper one. My favourite feature, hands down, is cruise control. Using this feature only I'm getting about 18 minutes out of the batteries. Mini 4 Pro is all I need at the minute.
Another really helpful video. I am still getting to grips with my Mini 4 but so far it it an impressive piece of kit. Your channel is a wealth of information. Cheers mate
And the subject scanner Why do we need to turn it on with every flight Just leave it how I set it And the 360 wheel how do you use it when it’s so small My fat fingers can not get it to work But in some of the how to videos it appears to be a larger icon With no explanation of how to get it larger
With my M3P the included screwdriver was worthless. If I’d kept trying to remove the screw from the prop the screw would’ve been stripped. I bought an inexpensive micro drive set that had the proper screw head.
Does anyone know if you can set this drone so that photos/videos etc you capture save to the RC controller SD card rather than the drone SD card 🤔 (or as well as) thanks in advance.
Yo i want to start a youtube channel about drones, because of the amazing footage you keep showing on your vids. I was hoping you would be able to send an older drone. Maybe the air 2s or avata 1?
The mini 3 Pro has that one tiny screwdriver. I had to use it when I crashed into trees in follow mode (my stupid fault trying to hide the Rc😢). Static electricity causes the screws to move around. Attach the new screws (supplied) to the driver and into the props. Only then place the props onto the drone arm. Worked for me. Then I went online and bought a bigger 000 driver.
I often fly from moving boats. The lack of a simple way to update homepoint is driving me mad, and I've had so many near losses because of it. It doesn't take more than somebody disturbing me for a short while and the drone is halfway to a spot where it intends to land on water.
My biggest problem with DJI is pre-existing software features not included in products. For example, on the DJI Mini 3 standard, I cannot turn off artificial sharpening, which makes the footage look worse. This is a common theme on DJI products. Sigh. I sent a request asking DJI to update software to allow me to turn off sharpening, but they don't do anything.
Definitely the combo deal with extra batteries. I bought another two: with 5 I can go off into the hills and have never run out yet. With RTH I thought you were going say just to cancel RTH and just land it wherever you are.
I broke a prop on my Mini 4 Pro and absolutely could not get one of the screws undone with the supplied screwdriver. The screws have a thread locking compound on them which makes some of them almost impossible to undo without rounding out the head. My advice would be to buy a decent Phillips 000 screwdriver from Wiha or another good toolmaker and then heat up the screwdriver before use to soften the locking compound. I had to send my Mini 4 Pro back to DJI to get one of the props removed as both screws heads rounded out. Always use the new screws supplied when you’re replacing the props as they have fresh thread locker on them. Shit design tbh and very frustrating when compared to the simplicity of the Air 3.
RTH should always be the controller, or there should be a shortcut button enabled to update the RTH to controller. It is quite easy to land the drone in the palm of your hand.
This is my favorite drone, but after recent updates I've noticed erratic flight in Normal or P mode. When flying forward the Mini 4 will regulate its speed causing erratic flight. This is with obstacle detection off. It's like someone getting on and off the gas.
Considering buying this as my first drone. The controller kind of concerns me, it was one of the primary attractions to the drone. I appreciate the heads up on the batteries and will get the fly more. Everything else is okay for me
Isn't the home point issue the same on all DJI consumer drones? I don't think it is so much a Mini 4 issue, as it is a DJI drone issue. But I strongly agree with you about the props, DJI please get rid of the screw on props, and save the extra weight of the twist on props somewhere else. Great video Darren, and thanks for sharing.
Are those super expensive DJI care package worth it? do people ever use it? I'm getting into the drone thing soon & just need to know what to & not to buy with it.
I'm a drone pilot sinds the Spark. Much longer than that I'm an RC-plane pilot. With the Spark I could customise the control sticks in the way that pulling the stick is going up and pushing is down, same as with common (RC-) planes. The Mini 4 Pro offers several customisation settings for the control sticks, however, no option for pulling is up and pushing is down. As a drone- and RC-plane pilot it is very tricky to fly these types of aircraft with reversed up-down stick setting. Here too, DJI should offer an upgrade to the Spark feature.
Hi Darren, Thanks for Highlighting THE MOST Infuriating Flaw in the M4Pro's Firmware, ie, the Fundamentally Flawed RTH Function when Tracking! So if DJI gives the operator the facility to have the Drone Follow them in or on a Vehicle, do they expect them to just drive around in a Big Circle so as not to get out of range of the original homepoint? I just can't see the point of having this facility when it fails the moment the Operator sets off in one distinct direction! When the RTH kicked in my first reaction was to Cancel it, but then I kept getting Onscreen messages that my Battery will explode if I don't RTH Right Now!.. So, I had to Stop everything and Land the drone there and then. So next time I will be prepared, But there doesn't seem to be an easy way to manually update the homepoint in the App? You have to go through the Safety options until you eventually reach the 'Update Homepoint' screen, which when everything at that moment is time critical, it just seems counter intuitive which goes against everything DJI has stood for thus far! I haven't attempted to use the Tracking Function since! I really can't see the Reasoning behind DJI's decision to omit an absolutely necessary Safety Function in Tracking Mode.
New to drones. Mini 4 pro my 1st ever, thanks to this channel's candor. I'd like instruction without reading the manual - call me lazy:) I was trying to land in a tight spot but OA wouldn't let me. EZ way to override when want to manually land?
Hi there Darren first thing Great RUclips channel I have a DJI mini 2 and definitely would like to upgrade to a DJI pro 4... just a quick question would it be better to wait for the DJI pro 5 which will be out sometime this year... or just get the DJI pro 4 done...? Cheers Rob 👍
Great video Darren. You’re right about that diddy screwdriver. What a nuisance it is. Being disabled I prefer the push/twist propellers. I have to get someone to change mine with the screwdriver. Hope you are well. Take care ❤
@@DMProductions I also do find the controller very slow getting up to speed. I’m sitting waiting for everything to come on the controller. It never used to be like that. ❤️👍
Definitely, love the Mini 4 Pro. I personally think that the active track sucks for the terrain where I use it, unfortunately. Better than the Mini 3, though.
I totally agree with you when it comes to return to home .. It should update the home point automatically when the controller changes position. And there should be covers on the card slot and the USBC port. All that being said though this drone is so much fun to fly.
In France for all of May with my Air 3 and Mini 4 Pro…….very frustrating that the altitude on the Mini4 is limited to 120m when using it in rising terrain. I’ve tried to unlock the altitude limit by following your videos but all it does is directs me to a link to supply a ‘Class 0’ sticker. It’s a 2023 drone so I was under the impression I could unlock the altitude limit…….
Declassifying the drone was only possible till the end of 2023. Now your only option would be to get it certified as a C1 drone to be able to set the max altitude to higher than 120m above starting point.
Did my second flight today, the footage is very impressive, hope to see those software updates . The music sponsor sounds good, I just ordered the LUT'S and cheat sheets. Cheers!
DJI should make a RC Pro2 that's compatible with all dji drones....o4 (Air 3/Mini4Pro) and 03+ (M3 series, Mini3 Series) with all the bells and whistles. I've always wanted the RC Pro because of its 32Gb on board storage, 1000 nit screen, and because it has buttons galore for an insane amount of customization. I'm kinda on the fence on either picking up one or the Mini4Pro Flymore Plus kit
Great video! I am new to your channel and just subscribed. I just purchased the Mini 4 Pro. I also own the Spark and the OG Mavic Pro. Had my first flight today with the Mini 4 Pro. Went well. Very nice drone. However, post flight I found that I could not load the photos onto my Apple products. Wondering if there is a setting that would allow Apple products to see photos on SD card. I did not have this problem with my other DJI drones. Thanks in advance!
I'm new to drones and looking to buy my first one but can't decide which one to get . What would you suggest for an absolute beginner ? Is the Mini 4 Pro worth the extra over the Mini 3 Pro as I won't be using all the camera capabilities.
Mini 4K would be an economical great choice. You have to learn how to fly the drone as it doesn't have obstacle avoidance which is what a new flyer will fall back on. I have the mini 4K and the mini 4K pro and love them both. I started with the MUCH cheaper mini 4K to see if I was going to stay with the hobby. The 4K pro is a fantastic drone, jut don't rely on OA completely or you'll end up crashing it. Better to crash 300.00 than 800.00 to start. Just imo.
hey, once again a great, informative video. The disadvantages of the hardware that you mentioned (i.e. props, non-watertight openings, etc.) cannot be corrected or only on future versions. On the other hand, I really hope that DJI will hear your voice and offer appropriate updates, as well as the one about the completely unsuccessful update for the RC2 ! (which I didn't do after your warning in the video!). Another solution that I use for the batteries and that might also be interesting for other users: Thanks to the combo, I have a total of 3 batteries. I also bought a FASTCHARGE ANKER 24,000mAh. As soon as the first battery dies, I fastcharge it immediately. By the time I've flown and drained the other two batteries, the first one is full again. Very efficient and practical.
Great points Darren. Still quite happy with my Mini 3 Pro Fly More at the current time. Got my annual DJI refresh cover coming up plus my Operators ID is due again, so have stuff to sort while waiting for the rain to stop 👍
My biggest complaint with the Mini 4 Pro is that the auto tracking consistently does not work. Why can't the drone stay within 20 or 30 feet from the controller? My testing with auto tracking this winter while skiing is that the drone stays close (desired) to a skier only for a few seconds; even when there are no trees, twigs, or obstacles between the drone and the skier/controller. The drone responds by flying higher and higher until it loses tracking contact with its controller. I believe that water or snow sensing maybe the culprit for my poor tracking issue? Mini 4 users tracking themselves also need a RC screen lock feature (similar to the Osmo Action), so they can fly hands-free. It is way too easy to touch or bump the controller screen settings and halt the hands-free ongoing tracking recording. And yes, an updating home point feature would be great for this type of drone use as well!
I just purchased the 4 pro About a month ago It does have some great features But I had to go find it yesterday As it was following me through a canyon as I was getting close to 30 percent battery I knew of a nice flat spot just ahead of me but by the time I got there I was 28 percent and the return home feature was activated I tried to stop it and get the drone to come to me but the low battery and return feature kept popping up I was not sure of the drone’s exact location and there were several large rock formations in between us so I pointed the camera down and picked a clear spot and put it down Ok it landed but were Turns out about 600 meters around a big bin in the canyon I can tell you the find my drone feature works As I walked to it the dots got closer and closer until I saw it setting their waiting with the camera still on With that said Would not a come to the controller button be the best option rather then constantly updating a home point I think it would be a better choice Return home or return to the controller location Look how many people use these drones off shore and they are constantly in motion and they have to fly their drones back to them for a handicap or land on a deck. If the drone considered the controller to be the home location wouldn’t that work out the best?
As a first time user of drones i noticed all these points you made, im really hoping im able to attach a Mavic 4 pro later to the RC2. i really want to see camera swaps to these i wanted the triple lens mavic but i was afraid i would crash my first drone immediately so i went with the latest most affordable version.
@DMProductions Great review Bro!! I might have to skip that firmware update, and wait for the next one. “World’s smallest screwdriver” 😂😂😂 I think there may be smaller ones, but definitely agree with you on keeping it all in your bag. That’s why for everyone watching I highly recommend getting the Fly More combo if it can be afforded
Awesome video Darren, your right with what you said about update home point, not very ideal when you are cycling, by the way are you going to be uploading some vegas videos soon, from the NAB event, im asuming you are, it looked an amazing event
Not necessarily, if you use pro settings and lower the shutter speed yes but if you shoot in auto and stick a nd filter on it’ll still look too sharp without changing that settings I mentioned

I will be getting a mini 4 pro next month which is an upgrade from my mini 1 will check back over your videos to get the best settings.
Are those super expensive DJI care package worth it? do people ever use it? I'm getting into the drone thing soon & just need to know what to & not to buy with it.
Your reviews are quite something else fella your indepth reviews are brilliant!!👌🏻👍🏻
Thank you I appreciate that
I'm a drone pilot sinds the Spark.
Do you still rate the dji mini pro 3 flymore with rc, and do you know of anywhere it's still in stock?
Thank you for this input and review.
I love my mini 3pro. I use it more than I use my air 3…which is an amazing quad! But the mini 3pro is just so great.
ifixit kit, amazing for so many things, including the props.
Some valid points about the RTH opportunity
Thanks Eddie but did you like the Simpson cameo 😂
New to drones. Mini 4 pro my 1st ever, thanks to this channel's candor. I'd like instruction without reading the manual - call me lazy:) I was trying to land in a tight spot but OA wouldn't let me. EZ way to override when want to manually land?
Yeah turn sensors off
Hi there Darren first thing Great RUclips channel I have a DJI mini 2 and definitely would like to upgrade to a DJI pro 4... just a quick question would it be better to wait for the DJI pro 5 which will be out sometime this year... or just get the DJI pro 4 done...? Cheers Rob 👍
Great video Darren. You’re right about that diddy screwdriver. What a nuisance it is. Being disabled I prefer the push/twist propellers. I have to get someone to change mine with the screwdriver.
Hope you are well. Take care ❤
the push/twist propellers are indeed so much better! I have no idea why they can't add these unless its down to weight but doesn't make sense...
Do the levaplus ae86 drone review !!!
I totally agree with you when it comes to return to home .. It should update the home point automatically when the controller changes position. And there should be covers on the card slot and the USBC port. All that being said though this drone is so much fun to fly.
it sure is and it can only get better!
Cheers!
Thank you ! Glad you're liking the drone !
I’d be happy with this controller with a better brighter screen and slightly faster. Having the lightweight size is a good advantage
Very efficient and practical.
yes Anker make some really good fast chargers ! Very good choice
Great info here . Subscribed
Glad you agree ! Thank you 🙏
Great points Darren. Still quite happy with my Mini 3 Pro Fly More at the current time. Got my annual DJI refresh cover coming up plus my Operators ID is due again, so have stuff to sort while waiting for the rain to stop 👍
Can you add more to the DJI refresh after it expired? Mine M3P is going on 2 years and I think it's about to expire.
@@Voltis-5 Mine is only the 12 months plan. DJI tend to send you reminders to renew a few weeks before it is due for renewal.
I just purchased the 4 pro
It does have some great features
But I had to go find it yesterday
As it was following me through a canyon as I was getting close to 30 percent battery I knew of a nice flat spot just ahead of me but by the time I got there I was 28 percent and the return home feature was activated
I tried to stop it and get the drone to come to me but the low battery and return feature kept popping up
I was not sure of the drone’s exact location and there were several large rock formations in between us so I pointed the camera down and picked a clear spot and put it down
Ok it landed but were
Turns out about 600 meters around a big bin in the canyon
I can tell you the find my drone feature works
As I walked to it the dots got closer and closer until I saw it setting their waiting with the camera still on
With that said
Would not a come to the controller button be the best option rather then constantly updating a home point
I think it would be a better choice
Return home or return to the controller location
Look how many people use these drones off shore and they are constantly in motion and they have to fly their drones back to them for a handicap or land on a deck. If the drone considered the controller to be the home location wouldn’t that work out the best?
As a first time user of drones i noticed all these points you made, im really hoping im able to attach a Mavic 4 pro later to the RC2. i really want to see camera swaps to these i wanted the triple lens mavic but i was afraid i would crash my first drone immediately so i went with the latest most affordable version.
yes future mavic drones should 100% support OC4
I might have to wait to get this one when its cheaper because the newer one comes out
When’s the Mavic 4 due?
not sure,,,,,
Very valid criticism and DJI should take action‼️
Thanks mate!
Great video! I've seen enough to know that I'll be passing on this model. Like the Mavic, this seems like more problems than it's worth.
From sarawak borneo malaysia watching🤝
Miles better than the M3P???
@DMProductions Great review Bro!! I might have to skip that firmware update, and wait for the next one. “World’s smallest screwdriver” 😂😂😂
I think there may be smaller ones, but definitely agree with you on keeping it all in your bag. That’s why for everyone watching I highly recommend getting the Fly More combo if it can be afforded
Hey Darren thanks for sharing. RC2 is super sluggish too since last update. Thank you again for the video and highlighting certain issues the M4P.
Thank you !
Great video! Should I get a DJI OSMO POCKET 3 or a MINI 4 PRO?
tough one depends which one you'll use most
@@DMProductions which one do you use most?
Thanks for sharing... that's why I stick with dji mini 3 pro... regards from Denmark 👍
Awesome video Darren, your right with what you said about update home point, not very ideal when you are cycling, by the way are you going to be uploading some vegas videos soon, from the NAB event, im asuming you are, it looked an amazing event
Yes lots more on way buddy!
@@DMProductions can’t wait. That sphere in vegas is a must see. I need to see that when I’m there lol
Great Vid man. What have u heard about the Nxt air, as far as when it's expected ? Thanks!
Not sure yet still loving the Air 3
@@DMProductionsFor sure man. I'm asking bc I'm getting it if the other one isn't coming out in a few months.
@@ipadmini1874 yeah nothing mentioned about it currently
@DMProductions cool man. I'm getting it.
I had to saw and cut the propellers off and use pliers to get the screws off lol
Thanks for sharing... that's why I stick with dji mini 3 pro...👍
That sharpness issue can be nullified if you use ND filters
Not necessarily, if you use pro settings and lower the shutter speed yes but if you shoot in auto and stick a nd filter on it’ll still look too sharp without changing that settings I mentioned
@@DMProductions I cannot find the sharpness settings you mentioned.. I think they removed it with the new software update
You say you "didn't hit anything"... That's clearly incorrect. Air doesn't chip plastic.
