Never build or buy a mansion unless you plan on spending $2+ million on property taxes/every single year and around 1 million in upkeep every single year. No breaks in the cashflow. Mansions are extremely expensive. You'd be better off buying several smaller properties to vacation in/work in.

Let’s say it costs $5K / month to insure. Let’s say it costs $10K/month for 2 gardeners. Let’s say it costs $6K/month In electricity for AC or heating. Add another $5K month for structural upkeep ( replacing locks..fixing stairs and windows etc.). That comes out to a rich $25K…now if you are talking about 40-50 room estates…well that’s another story.

In in UK and if you buy a home and have paid it in full or the the mortgage in full its yours,, Where's as years back from being young I would see gorgeous looking houses in Florida etc that would be at bargain prices that would only get you a terrace house here but then noticed they all came with huge monthly /annual fees that had to be paid for life and the fees were what you'd make in a month or more if you poor or middle class, so it'd be no cheaper than renting the mansion. They never really own it, absolutely no point forking millions and millions on a house you have to keep paying taxes on etc

These people have millions in funds available, but never purchase a home outright. They always take mortgages for homes that rely on fulfilled contracts, which most of them cannot satisfy, because they end up washing-out or becoming less popular. That, and literally all their homes are ugly.
