I usually get pretty detailed in my how-to and review videos. You never know how familiar your viewers are with your subject. We do love our Outland Firebowl. It's a cool addition to our campsite and a great conversation starter in a campground. The same with our Trailmanor Trailer. Pretty unique out there. Thanks for watching.
They're really great. I was expecting to be completely underwhelmed but was pleasantly surprised with how well it works and how much I like it. I love a wood burning fire it. I love everything about a wood burning fire pit, the smell, the crackling of the wood... all of it. What I don't like is that I have a small backyard that doesn't legally allow a wood burning fire pit. This product solves that issue with a few bonuses. No more getting wood and cutting it, no more getting the fire going, no more adding wood and keeping it full of wood to maintain the fire and having to get out the garden hose at the end of the night to make sure the fire's out and not gonna bur my house down while I sleep. All I need to do with this product is to make sure I have enough propane, turn the knob to ignite it and set the flame as high or low as desired. Enjoy the beautiful fire, the ambient light and the amazing amount of heat these fire pits put out. Then when I'm ready to go inside at the end of the night, I simply turn it off and put the lid back on. An added bonus is that I can use it on my deck or on a table on the deck without worry of anything catching fire. I highly recommend this to anyone who is on the fence about buying one as I was. You won't regret it, you'll just wish you had bought one sooner!
Thanks for the review and such detail on unpacking it. I got this exact one, which worked great, but I wanted to get one a little taller and smaller, so I needed to return it using Amazons exchange program and I could not remember or figure out how to repack it, it always stuck up a 1/2" to high in box. This video allowed me to realize I had the wrong Styrofoam piece on bottom, I swapped them and it packed perfect. Thanks!
Thanks for watching and commenting. My set-up isn't anything very high-end or very-new. I use a Rhode NT1-A in a suspension rig with a pop filter on an articulating studio boom arm. This comes out of the mic in XLR to a Behringer U-Phoria UMC 22 USB audio interface. For field audio, I use a GoPro Hero 5 Black with the GoPro audio interface and a Boya BY M1 lavalier mic. I record the voiceovers with Audacity 2.3.0 (free and latest version) with normalization, noise reduction, and amplification applied. I do my video editing with Hitflim Express 13 ( latest free version). It has some audio processing, but I don't feel I need to use it. My computer is an older AMD Phenom 2 based custom build I put together a while back. I may have to build a new machine soon as this one is beginning to complain as my programs update themselves. The technology is always advancing. This answer ended up a little long, but I hope it helps. Thanks again for watching and commenting. Stay safe.
Hi Breanne and thanks for the comment. Yeah, I know. Modern tanks have safeties built into them. They can still leak, but minimally. I was apparently reflecting back to some earlier tank experiences. Thanks for watching and safe travels.
Hi AFK and thanks for watching. We've been able to have campfires everywhere we've set up. Very cool. It's not camping without a campfire. Enjoy your firebowl.
hi nice video thank you... were thinking of buying one of these from costco can you tell me how long a 15 pound tank of propane would last at half open. time wise
Hi and thanks for watching. at 432,804 BTUs for a full 20-pound propane tank and approximately 27,000 BTUs/Hr for the firebowl at half flow, you would get somewhere around 16 hours of burn time. There are many variables, but that should be in the ballpark. Safe Travels.
You are awesome. Of all the Outland Firebowl 863 vids on RUclips, yours was the only one to show me exactly what I needed to know, and at the level of detail that I wanted to know it. Thank you so very much!
Same here. I appreciated the video because I just got mine today (same model) and just couldn't figure out how to get the carry straps attached. After watching, I realized I just wasn't trying hard enough. :) Only the last inch or two of the straps is elastic so I really had to work at it, but I think I got the hang of it. Also, for whatever it's worth, I got my 2 bags of "M" rocks and one of "L", but honestly the large rocks seemed the same size as the medium. Oh well - still looks decent.
Love your review.but just a thought. No need to open valve all the way. Two turns is enough.that way bottle can be turned off quickly in case of emergency.
Thank you for this detailed video. My 863 Cypress just arrived today and I'm trying to educate myself on the best size propane tank for this unit. Is your tank a 20lb tank? Do you think a smaller one could be used for a 3-4 hours as I would prefer something that is a bit lighter in weight.
Hi James. The Cypress uses 58,000 BTUs an hour at its highest setting. A 20# propane tank has 430,270 BTUs of energy stored in it. The Cypress would run on its highest setting for approximately 7 hours on a 20# propane tank. A 10# propane tank looks to be the next physical size down. That would last around 3 hours. We use a 20# and a 40# tank depending on if propane is easily available where we are camping. We usually only run our firebowl on high to warm the rocks, but some nights it does get run higher. Thanks for watching and enjoy your new firebowl.
Thanks for watching. If we were buying firewood, the propane for the burn time is cheaper. For us, it's more about how can we have a campfire when there are no open wood fires allowed due to drought or air quality regulations, or some city ordinance. It's also much easier to pack, and much cleaner to use. No smoke, no embers, no hot (or cold) coals to dispose of. There's nothing like the smell of a wood fire, but it just isn't camping without a nice campfire in the evening. Thanks for your comment.
May I ask another question. Which is if I can use this fire pit over the table laminated top would that be safe is there big heat coming from the bottom of the fire pit
Hi. I don't know if you tried using the firebowl on the table yet, but our Outland Cypress has very little heat underneath as well as a pretty substantial air gap with the legs. Have fun with your firebowl.
Hi L K. Glad the video helped you out. We find our music through much patient searching in the RUclips creator studio audio library. Thanks for watching and enjoy your firebowl.
Hi, Camping Adventures 101, and thanks for the question. the numbers work out like this; The Cypress uses 58,000 BTUs an hour at its highest setting. A 20# propane tank has 430,270 BTUs of energy stored in it. The Cypress would run on its highest setting for approximately 7 hours on a 20# propane tank. The manufacturer doesn't have BTU ratings for lower settings that I have been able to find, but your run time will be better. Using the numbers for other sizes of propane tanks the run times can be approximated. We use a 20# and a 40# tank depending on if propane is easily available where we are camping. We usually only run our Firebowl on high to warm the rocks, then run it fairly low for the rest of the evening, but some nights it does get run higher. It's nice to have a campfire whenever and wherever we would like one without restrictions. Thanks for watching and safe travels.

I just ordered an Outland firebowl, but a different model I think. I've NEVER hooked up anything to a 20 lb propane tank so I was a little nervous about how to do it. Thank you for doing this video.
Hi L.M. and thanks for watching. Be sure when you turn on the propane bottle you turn it on slowly to start. There is a safety mechanism in the tank valve that will limit the output pressure and the flame will be lower than it should be. Enjoy your new firebowl. Safe travels.
@@thecritterandthebutterfly thank you. I'm in So Cal and recently went camping but no fires allowed. Really a bummer. So I order the Outland to get around that and to enjoy at home.
