I’ve just watched S1. Because of Theo. Dammit, he s such a handsome devil. Not really into his character tho. Him not being in S2 is a bit the same as not having Simon in Bridgerton S2. But I was so not a fan of the Duke and S2 was better. Can t wait to see what Sanditon has in store for me in S2😅

My soul.... Coming back to this scene after hearing Theo James (Sidney) will not be returning is heartbreak. I really feel now how Charlotte felt in the last scene. That is real life, unfortunately. Not everything ends happily but I am hopeful that Charlotte will learn and grow from this. :( I can't wait for season 2!

This scene is like the one in ‘Pride and Prejudice ‘, when Elizabeth is visiting Pemberley with her aunt and uncle and Darcy arrives. Sydney even asks Charlotte about her family as did Darcy. As this production was said to be based on Jane Austen’s unfinished novel, then it should have gone the same way as her other six novels. This production should not have envisioned seasons. Within the eight episodes, the drama should have ended with Charlotte and Sydney marrying. That would have been Austen, as she would not have had her heroine traipsing from one man to another. Also she would have had to write a Trilogy to encompass three seasons. The drama was beautiful and I could have enjoyed it if I had not been expecting an Austen novel. This production with its three seasons should have been entitled, ‘The Adventures of Charlotte Heywood’.

Theo James is outstanding in this role. From begining to end, you feel his sense of self, his passion, the duality in the character. Slowly, his goodness and sense of duty emerge as the main commitments in his life. They grow as he gradually falls for Charlotte. The vibrancy is masterfully played. Kudos to Charlotte too for portraying innocence and growth so well. These two work magnificently well together. It was a real blow not to see Sydney in S2. I think we all felt the loss as much as Charlotte did. While I like Alexander, his character has not yet reached (for me) the level of passion and commitment Sydney had. He might get there. We'll have to see (the London season preview seemed promissing). I have not read Sanditon, but it strikes me that Sydney has similarities with Darcy (the haugtiness toward Charlotte at the begining) and Willoughby/Wickham (dashing and adventurous but without the scoundrel part) and Alexander has similarities with Colonel Brandon (both have a quiet disposition and a troubled first love history). Yet they are their own characters. What a novel this would have been, had JA been able to fully finish it... Nevertheless, I think the adaptation has done a pretty good job of keeping to the spirit of a JA novel (despite a few "improprieties" that clearly would never have taken place in one of the novels). What I miss is the wit in the dialogue (except from Lady Denham). But altogether, it is satisfying and well acted (beautiful decor and costumes as well). A pleasure.
I finished watching Season 2. I like all the actors but that magic was not yet there for me. I didn't like the idea of copying a Jayne Eyre version of Charlotte being a Governess and falling in love to Mr Rochester kind..Somehow I like the originality of Season 1 and I long for that story to be completed because to me the ending of Season 1 and 2 is not Austen like..so there is a part of me longing for that return of the main hero to be reunited with the heroine of this story. Sidney and Charlotte will always be for me who truly captures my thoughts and my heart. Thank you to all the actors, staff and crew for making this for us. I do hope you enjoy the whole process. Sanditon was left unfinished, at the point where Charlotte and Mary go to visit Lady Denham, in Ep.1! The rest is created by scriptwriters. Jane Austen's book was about the Parker brothers. Tom is married, Arthur doesn't want to marry and Charlotte falls for Sidney. Unlike previous JA adaptations, they wanted to make more money by stretching the story over several series. Series 1, at 8 episodes, was, already, longer than previous adaptations. Due to low viewing figures, in the UK, and Covid, Series 2 was dropped by ITV. By the time they got funding for Series 2, after a campaign, mainly by US fans, a lot of the lead actors had other work and could not return. Theo James, who was, also, an executive producer, did not want to return. For reasons known only to himself (certainly, not to JA!), he thought that Sanditon should have a 'damaged fairytale' ending! Series 2&3 had to be re-written and a host of new characters created! This left fans disappointed/heartbroken/hating Theo James/ dissatisfied, with the end result. Andrew Davies had wanted a Sidlotte HEA ending, originally, too! Alas, it was not to be. Mainly, the Theo James haters are relishing a Heybourne ending, now. The SP fans are bereft. The JA 'purists' have accepted it and just want ANY HEA, for CH! S2 has a brighter colour palate (like Bridgerton) but the story is darker and less satisfactory, than S1! Theo James is not looking back/not returning/doesn't care. Apparently, Series 2 got more viewers, than S1 (though, I prefer S1, apart from the end of Eps. 6&8). The controversy has brought him more publicity but, so far, no better roles! The role of SP was, very probably, his best acting role, due to the great chemistry with Rose Williams, as CH. A lot of viewers just thought that he looked 'hot'/enjoyed seeing his naked bottom. Theo James seems to agree with them! 😏
Oh please dear Theo James come back to Sanditon. I have S1 and I wish to have a copy of S3 with you on it, not just your voice in S2. Sidney Parker and Charlotte Heywood has a special place in my heart. Thank you very much! ❤️👏
I loved every plot of the story, every character, primary or secondary it was! And I don’t think at all there were any unseemly scenes! The settings are very beautiful and the performers are absolutely excellent. What I liked most, were the internal evolutions of the main characters, in this Andrew Davis is particularly good! I wholeheartedly beg the creator to work on Sanditon’s second season because the ending is unfair. It is not too much to ask a brother to sacrifice his happiness, and his feelings in order to avoid bankruptcy! It is true that there is not always a happy ending, but in this type of adaptation yes! Jane Austen would never leave us with this sense of injustice! In this dark period then it would be really useful to have something positive to think about!
Well this is Jane Austen! They could have been Darcy and Elizabeth, even some of the conversation. Why Davies et al could not have added a couple of more episodes and had the happy ending that we expected and waited for. If it was just some period drama in seasons, it would have been different, but by calling it the unfinished novel of Austen, we expected an Austen ending, well I did!

We just finished Season 1 and Episodes up to 8. My husband and I enjoyed it all. It's my first time to hear about Jane Austin's unfinished novel. I am fond of her books and to me this story is unique. I think this is the best period drama so far at least for me. It's because of the story, the actors, beautiful settings, beautiful costumes...The actress Charlotte is very interesting and I love the story which was started from the beginning of the season with Sidney, is exciting that you can't help to want to follow the story arc. The ending in Season 1 was not great. I think it's not what would Jane Austin wanted to happen in her book... but I just wish to see a beautiful and happy ending for Charlotte and Sidney or at least for the heroine. To me Theo James is the best actor for this role. At this point I couldn't think of the best love for Charlotte. I think for Charlotte, that is the best ending of the story and seeing her what she becomes and growth. Hopefully in Season 3, we’ll see. It is a definitely a keeper for me.
I am still mad! I did not watch the other seasons. I found the unfinished novel by Jane Austen and another woman, which had a Jane Austen ending. How dare Davies et al put Jane Austen’s name to this costume drama! She wrote six books and they all had the same ending. Sanditon was not Jane Austen. As Theo Whatever says that he could not do a second season, Davies et al could have added a couple of more episodes, and had the ending that Austen intended.
I wish Sydney and Charlotte could have married. I don’t think Colburn ever has the passion that Sydney and Charlotte had. I was mad that they didn’t at least let Sydney kiss Charlotte good bye on the cliff.
Beautiful season 1. Beautiful and perfect couple Sidney and Charlotte. Theo James portrayed Sidney Parker perfectly. He was Sidney Parker. A huge disappointment what the screenwriters did with it in the so-called sequel. For me, #Sanditon will always just be #Sidlotte and Season 1.
The ending was terrible and definitely not Jane Austen! I could not watch season two because that was not Austen either. I found the book that was finished by’ Another Lady’, and on reading it, I could see Charlotte and Sidney and of course they got married. Why a beautiful period drama was ruined with such an ending, I do not know. They could have added two more episodes and got Lady Susan to sort it out and ended with the marriage of Charlotte and Sydney. I know that I will read the book many times and will always see Rose Williams and Theo James as Charlotte and Sidney. The period drama will always have the title, ‘The Adventures of Charlotte Heywood’, because it has nothing to do with Jane Austen.
Typical Austen format. Grumpy, handsome, misunderstood man with a penchant for getting his kit off near water meets level headed, tolerant, deep thinking damsel. Still quite good though.

Me neither. B4 I knew he wasn't coming back or Stringer I started to watch season 2 and to my horror he was killed off. And both actors weren't returning as they had movies to film. Think stringer had vikings.

We just finished Season 1 and Episodes up to 8. My husband and I enjoyed it all. It's my first time to hear about Jane Austin's unfinished novel. I am fond of her books and to me this story is unique. I think this is the best period drama so far at least for me. It's because of the story, the actors, beautiful settings, beautiful costumes...The actress Charlotte is very interesting and I love the story which was started from the beginning of the season with Sidney, is exciting that you can't help to want to follow the story arc. The ending in Season 1 was not great. I think it's not what would Jane Austin wanted to happen in her book... but I just wish to see a beautiful and happy ending for Charlotte and Sidney or at least for the heroine. To me Theo James is the best actor for this role. At this point I couldn't think of the best love for Charlotte. I think for Charlotte, that is the best ending of the story and seeing her what she becomes and growth. Hopefully in Season 3, we’ll see. It is a definitely a keeper for me.

I am still mad! I did not watch the other seasons. I found the unfinished novel by Jane Austen and another woman, which had a Jane Austen ending. How dare Davies et al put Jane Austen’s name to this costume drama! She wrote six books and they all had the same ending. Sanditon was not Jane Austen. As Theo Whatever says that he could not do a second season, Davies et al could have added a couple of more episodes, and had the ending that Austen intended.
I am hoping that the body found was not Sidney's, and he would show up in a later series. But it didn't happen.

Beautiful season 1. Beautiful and perfect couple Sidney and Charlotte. Theo James portrayed Sidney Parker perfectly. He was Sidney Parker. A huge disappointment what the screenwriters did with it in the so-called sequel. For me, #Sanditon will always just be #Sidlotte and Season 1.

The ending was terrible and definitely not Jane Austen! I could not watch season two because that was not Austen either. I found the book that was finished by’ Another Lady’, and on reading it, I could see Charlotte and Sidney and of course they got married. Why a beautiful period drama was ruined with such an ending, I do not know. They could have added two more episodes and got Lady Susan to sort it out and ended with the marriage of Charlotte and Sydney. I know that I will read the book many times and will always see Rose Williams and Theo James as Charlotte and Sidney.
The period drama will always have the title, ‘The Adventures of Charlotte Heywood’, because it has nothing to do with Jane Austen.

Typical Austen format. Grumpy, handsome, misunderstood man with a penchant for getting his kit off near water meets level headed, tolerant, deep thinking damsel. Still quite good though.

Me neither. B4 I knew he wasn't coming back or Stringer I started to watch season 2 and to my horror he was killed off. And both actors weren't returning as they had movies to film. Think stringer had vikings.
