It’s hard to rewatch season 1 now. When I finally did after seasons 2 and 3 I realized the writers did the right thing by creating Xander for Charlotte. Two heartbroken people healing each other. The way he learns to understand her as a woman and his good intentions towards the people he loves, I can’t imagine any other man for Charlotte. They even make hand holding romantic.
@@TheJackdaw77 Same for me. I actually can't watch season 1 since seeing Colbourne and Charlotte in seasons 2 and 3. No. Just can't do it. I love Colbourne. Such excellent acting by BLH! :-) 💗
I totally agree. after dozens of screenings with the Coulbourns, I give the first season a wide berth, although I was hoping for the appearance of Mr. Stringer until Mr. Colbourne arrived 😍
This is my favorite scene of the season 2. I am not talking about the kissing, but he did open up to her & share his grief. The man was lonely for nine long years. With the incredible pain & burden of losing his wife. Ben acted so well in this scene, in my opinion. Thanks a lot, Susan for this video. I hope, everyone should watch this well written continuation of Sanditon.
Again, in a book related to Jane Austen, a scoundrel abandons a young pregnant woman. For a spinster who lived in a rectory, Jane Austen certainly knew about a great deal about illicit love. With all the corrupting of young women depicted in Jane Austen's books, it's a wonder the British Army had time to defend the Empire.
Firstlady...I loved this scene too! I absolutely love how BLH played Colbourne. I thought he was so moving and subtle. It takes great courage to be vulnerable and break free of past tragedy and hurts which to me makes Colbourne a heroic figure. That and he's protective of Charlotte so much so that even tho he loves her and wants her he feels he should let her go at one point. He doesn't want to hurt her as he can't forgive himself for his past. Very self sacrificing. Love this love story so much. And high praise to BLH for creating an amazing Colbourne! And yes...the chemistry between he and Charlotte was off the charts. Love Rose Williams portrayal of Charlotte. Perfect casting IMO! ❤️🔥 I hated to see it end and BTW ..to me, that final wedding scene could not have been more perfect. So beautifully done. 💗
I keep coming back to this one video. I feel like Sanditon will be my forever favorite period piece! Congratulations to the writers, for everyone who helped save this show, for casting those amazing actors!
Finally!!! This is why I have continued to watch this show. The “romance” of season one was painful because Sidney never showed her the respect and love she deserved. Here’s the man who is worthy of Miss Heywood.
Actually I just watched season 1 again and although Sidney was a little hard on her sometimes, she gave as good as she got and he didn't take offense to her tough nature. I think Sidney was just more self assured and certain of his resignation until she undid him altogether which sorely tested him. Colbourne was not honest with her and played emotional games which is more hurtful in the long run because with Sidney, she knew without a doubt that he had wanted to marry her if it were not for Tom's predicament. Colbourne ran away and then hid behind his children when he tried to ask her back. If he could have shared the truth and told her that he would not dare get involved again, it would have been better than leaving her in the lurch thinking that his feelings were not real. That is hurtful. I do want them to be together and hopefully he gets his head straight and does the right and best thing for both of them. On the Sidney issue, we will just agree to disagree ❣️
I just rewatched S1. I thought I had misremembered Sidney because so many people love him and his relationship with Charlotte. But I found I still disliked the dynamic. Sidney spent too much time yelling at and belittling Charlotte. He made her ashamed of herself and then when she was convinced she wasn't good enough he changed his mind and told her she shouldn't change. It felt a bit mind game-y. Even in the regatta episode, when he supposedly has feelings for her, Sidney makes a joke at her expense in front of all his London friends. I know Alexander is not perfect but he feels like a better match. Especially once he figures out his emotional baggage. (Also Ben Lloyd-Hughes is just a more subtle actor than Theo. The amount he infuses into his body language and voice is truly remarkable).
@@ritacheatham9048 disagree with your assessment. Sidney took until the 7th episode to realize Charlotte's effect on him..He did not even defend her against Eliza who tried to belittle Charlotte at the Regatta...Colbourne knew that Lennox is a dangerous man and tried to protect Charlotte...She had to find out for herself about Lennox...Colbourne knows Charlotte has changed his life and his kids life for the better...He just has to come to the realization that he is good enough to be her husband and they will be just fine..
I literally squealed when I watched this. I have been waiting this whole season for this kind of interaction between them. But poor Leo. I hope she doesn't run off, and comes to realize that she is very loved. By far my favorite episode, so many great moments for a lot of characters.
He has a very controlled way of doing things and kissing Charlotte is right up there. It is very passionate and beautiful and she just let herself fall into it❣️
I’m so pleasantly surprised at how season 2 has won me over. I am loving it and was previously super mad at theo for jumping ship. So far I like season 2 even better than the first. Lol. Their chemistry is off the charts. ❤️
@Dillards Shopper I say, Sidney who??? Yes, at the end of season 1 I was heartbroken for Charlotte and her loss of Sidney. And he was hot. Would there ever be a season 2?? I was so thrilled to see it! This season is off the charts. The chemistry between the two of them is so profound it palpable. I was so utterly saddened and outright "pissed" at how episode 6 ended I've been replaying the season almost in its entirety today, plus watching these clips set to music is heart-wrenching! I can't wait to see what happens in Season 3
I was really mad at the end of Season 1…and then for them to tell us it was cancelled- after that unsatisfactory ending???!!!! What???!!! 😠🤬 But you are right- I watched season 2 reluctantly and it totally won me over. Everything was better- writing, story, chemistry, love scenes…everything!
@Dillards Shopper Sidney and Charlotte had the fun push and pull of the misunderstood enemies to lovers plot but Colbourne and Charlotte’s relationship just seems more mature. They are building a friendship and a family based on trust and respect and it’s really beautiful. There is depth to Colbourne that Sidney’s storyline just did not have.
I agree on all points! 🙂 ❤️ Such raw emotion. So evocative. ❤️ Charlotte, Colbourne, and all the scenes with these two interacting. Ditto for the daughters. I don’t know what will happen in the future with them, but there surely is deep trust, connection between them.
Thank you to Susan for posting these clips! I've, like pretty much everyone else in the world, been using RUclips for over a decade, and I rarely ever feel the need to comment. But I love Sanditon (and other Masterpiece Classics) and have been having so much fun theorizing and appreciating the show with all of these other people who love it too, these past few days!
I love it when (healthy) discussions start in comments! And there’s so much to talk about with a well-written, perfectly acted and paced show like this ❤️
I feel the same! I usually don't comment on RUclips much (maybe once every six months on average) but I've so enjoyed these discussions of Sanditon, so thank you @Susan Firth from me as well for posting the videos!:)
@@abigailryder8315 me neither Abigail, first time now wanting to be part of the discussion and speculation. It has added to my enjoyment of the series....even though I've made some wild guesses!!!
I am only on episode 4 so very much appreciate this….having s hard time waiting for the next episode. Such great writing, acting, directing and the music is wonderful! Such a treat to have this quality of entertainment and your wonderful talent as well!
I've got a huge "I told you so" bubbling up and bursting out... lol. After it was announced that Theo was not returning, and all those that said the show was ruined, etc.... I've been telling all the 'naysayers' to trust the actors, the writing/directing/casting crew, etc. I could not have anticipated it being even this good!! I am contented beyond words.
Me too !!!! I just can’t help myself and like a lot of viewers I have been watching the episodes over and over again. I am embarrassed at my obsessiveness. But what can I say, it is just really been written so well, acted brilliantly and, inspired my passion for the Seasons. Being a diehard Regency period follower, I am so impressed with everything the story offers. The actors are my all time favourites. Thank you so much.
The slow lean into the kiss was like asking permission (giving Charlotte plenty of opportunity to demur) standing in stark contrast to Col. Lennox grabbing Charlotte roughly and forcing a kiss upon her. Also, the fact that Alexander felt shame and guilt for his unkind words to his wife when he discovered her infidelity, (when he reacted like any red-blooded man would probably have reacted under the circumstances), just shows Mr. Colbourne is a decent person. Plus, he confessed that he had "so wanted to tell" Charlotte but was afraid of what she would think of him, shows that her good opinion meant everything to him, even at this short acquaintance. If she was really listening, Charlotte would already know what he thought of her. When Season 1 ended so sadly, I immediately set out to rewrite the ending with some mental "fan fiction" (never knew what I was doing had a name). I've been playing these little dramas in my head ever since my older sisters introduced me to romance novels at age 12. When Season 2 ended with another heartbreak, I just continued the story with Mr. Colbourne hearing Charlotte burst into tears as he was leaving, and he turns back to comfort her. She's sobbing into her hands and doesn't hear him re-enter the room. He takes Charlotte in his arms and says, "Please don't cry, Charlotte, you'll break my heart." She melts into his arms for a few moments before pushing him away and demanding to know what he and Col. Lennox spoke about, since everything was fine between them until he went to speak to Col. Lennox. After some true confessions, Charlotte points out that she is nothing like Lucy, so history would certainly never repeat itself... besides wasn't this the perfect way for Col. Lennox to punish Charlotte for rejecting his proposal? The fun thing about mental fan fiction is that you can play it whenever you are bored or need a little entertainment. And if you cannot replay the scenario exactly like the last time, you can hone the dialogue and it keeps getting better and better. I suspect from reading these comments, that many other Jane-ites (Jane Austen fans) are already doing this. If you haven't tried it yet, I encourage you to let your imaginations run wild. It is very cathartic and will help pass the time until 2023.
@@rachelsmith5479 Thank you for the compliment of asking, but I've never posted any of these little creative writing projects or re-imaginings anywhere public. I've only kept them for myself and can run them like movies in my head. I did write down a few chapters once but destroyed them years later because I couldn't bear the thought of someone finding them after I'm dead. While my family took cross country trips, and my older siblings would be asking "When do we get there?" or "Can I see the map?" I'd be staring out the window at the scenery amusing myself. Once, on a bus trip to a church youth gathering the youth pastor asked me, "A penny for your thoughts." I'm sure I blushed and refused, not because I was thinking anything naughty, just silly and romantic. And men clearly would have a hard time understanding. I also have a theory that the male writers of the Sanditon adaptation have no idea what they do to us girls with these broken romances.
Here's all the talk about the kiss which I dont mind dont get me wrong 🥰🔥 but has anyone noticed how gently she put her hand in his hand and how gently he curled his hand over her hand. It's like her hand was always meant to be in his hand. It was such a sweet and loving gesture. For me the handholding showed how much genuine trust they have in each other and are comfortable with each other. 🥰 Its always the little things for me
That's what I said! It was like a reflex for him to curl his hand over hers at the touch of her hand, as if it's meant to be there and the most natural/comfortable thing in the world 🥰
Yes…..it was ever so sweet and gentle to curl his hand into hers and it helped him finish his story and release his emotions in safety and comfort… and because she did not judge him but encouraged him to forgive and let go…he sort of melted into her with a kiss… I also liked the knowing glance of the housekeeper when they first arrived, as she saw to it that they could be alone. I imagine she would know the truth of what had happened between he and Lucy. He is a deep character who is gentle but manly… and I just love that he even kisses his horse and his dog💕💕💕
I love the difference in Colbourne and Colonel Lennox's kissing Charlotte. Lennox kisses her forcibly and so fast she doesn't have time to think. Colbourne is slower and gives her plenty of time to say no or pull back, which of course she doesn't because he is just a sweetheart.🥰
@@msjunecarter2593 Ikr! Colbourne wanted in a way to get her permission by being gentle and slow, and once he felt her wanting it he went even more into and forward with the kiss just beautiful! But with Lenox the way he kissed her felt like he was kissing a doll, meaning that she has no emotions and that he can toy with her, shows that he treats women as sexual objects, such a disgusting swine of person
This was all I wanted from this season. I am so happy with how the writers did this and the character development. Ugh. The actors, the writers, everyone knew what they were doing. It's nice to see such a strong comeback after such a huge character loss.
I agree with another comment...the ballroom dancing scenes between Colburne and Charlotte, which were some of my favorites, are filled with such emotional tension and magic. They gave me butterflies as well..almost like being there. Sigh ..❤️🔥
Just cried my eyes out at the end of this scene....so beautiful and yet poignant as well. I can only echo everyone else's sentiments...it's so emotional ❤️👒🐴
This whole scene is incredibly poignant, evocative. For a man, in 1820, to open up re such long-standing pain about such a personal matter and his feelings of shame-wow. (Obviously due to his deep trust of Charlotte and the depth of her empathy, his love of Charlotte, and, of course, Lennox/Charlotte balcony incident compelling Charlotte to gently but firmly press him re the need to open up to her. Brilliant acting and writing. Wow. 😢❤️ I don’t know what will happen with these two people in the future, but something like this creates a permanent deep connection.
@@susanfirth9883 I have a query, because something tells me that you just may have viewed season 3 and are privy to more than we are. Please tell me that she does not actually succumb and marry farmer Ralph, please. That information alone will suffice please?
No, I haven't seen any more of the show than you have. But I have read every Austen novel (multiple times), and have seen many tv and movie adaptations. The writers of Sanditon are being true to Austen, so I have no worries about Alexander and Charlotte having their happily ever after.
This certainly makes Lennox's comments to Colbourne at the garden party in the previous episode so much worse. I think Colbourne kept his cool quite well actually. If I were him, I'd have broken Lennox's jaw.
Right? Good point. Knowing the context, in retrospect it goes from "oh Colbourne, that hot-headed man" to "wow Colbourne really kept his cool with that &$@hat" 😂
Masterpiece sent out a newsletter to members this week about the garden party. From Ben Lloyd-Hughes (Colbourne): "Because of what has happened in Colbourne's past, Lennox is that person in your life-and I know it from my own personal experience-that as soon as they walk into a room, your stomach turns and it flips. You can't speak; you freeze. It's something that you can have with people you love, as well, and Charlotte, for Colbourne, is someone of that certain type, where his stomach flips-he's in awe of her, and he cannot quite get the words out. But with Lennox, it's something different. I have certainly had that with people in the past, in terms of someone who really pressed your buttons, and it's definitely stuff that I remember feeling and tapped in to as an actor. I remember talking to Justin Young, the head writer, and Belinda Campbell, the producer, thinking gosh, there are so many moments where I want to, as Colbourne, just punch Lennox in face. Why am I letting him get away with this kind of whispering in my ear? But I think it brings so many things flooding back, that it just leaves Colbourne in shock, and completely disarms him. Coming to the garden party is such a big thing for him, having been isolated for so long, and it does remind me of going to a party as an 18-year old, and suddenly the guy who stole your girlfriend is there and you are completely immobilized in fight or flight. He is that one person, for Colbourne, who all sense of calm and any sense of focus goes. I think there is a glaze of anger."
@@susanfirth9883 You're most welcome! I thought it was very interesting too and I thought people here might enjoy it. I like this season much more than Season 1, which I liked, but I find the storylines are more interesting in this season.
@@michelle1me ship is short for relationship. So when someone says "I ship them" it means we hope they get together. Often times, we might combine the two characters names. And it becomes their official ship name.
This whole scene was amazing….such a stark difference in how Lennox’s kiss was imposing and forceful starting from holding hands while this was the exact opposite….the slow lean with just a millisecond of hesitation as if asking permission and then she leaned in as is saying yes….oh my heart!!! It’s going to crush me if they leave this season on a cliffhanger of her leaving him!!!
100%. I feel like in this scene she kind of has the power as well; he is vulnerable due to sharing his painful past and she makes her feelings clear with what she said about having a future together. There is so much feeling and passion between them 🔥
@@frogprincess8203 She wasn't talking about them having a future together. That would be WILDLY presumptuous of Charlotte. She realized during this conversation he has been keeping Leonora at a distance because of his guilt and because Leonora is a "living reminder". His inability to forgive himself is depriving both Colbourne and Leonora from having the family life they both need. It was brilliant of Charlotte to give him that advice and it was exactly what he needed to hear and of course made him love her even more than before, hence the kiss. How could he not?!
@@amritawhitman8112 I'm certain that's what she meant, and that's why he felt moved to kiss her. If you watch it again, that's what she was telling him with her eyes. Of course she meant all of them together, but she definitely told him how she felt with that comment. It wasn't presumptuous, she'd felt the electricity between them and he had already admitted he was afraid of what she'd think of him - she took hold of his hand.
@@frogprincess8203 As it happens I decided to watch Episodes 1 - 5 again over the weekend and the way I see that scene hasn't changed. There are a lot of emotions, and an unspoken subtext of emotions, happening within each of them in that scene, but we will need to agree to disagree about what is and isn't happening there. The cast and crew will be able to talk about many things about Season 2 after Episode 6 airs next week and hopefully we'll learn more about this scene then.
The love and empathy , compassion Charlotte shows him in this scene is so touching as if she giving this man back his reason for living telling him to forgive himself for the tragic loss of his wife because he has a cherished future to look forward to not just with the children but if he wants with her . Their is a promise of love and healing in their shared future .the kiss that followed was a kiss from a man starved for love and affection it was not a chaste kiss but one full of promise and she drank it in .
Yes, exactly ❤️ her compassion is so important in that moment. It just opened him up. This scene is so beautifully written and acted. I can’t get enough of it. I know with another whole season to go they will run into obstacles but these two are so beautiful together 🥰
Well said. It also had to be deeply wounding for Alexander to know that Charlotte has been guarded and possibly fearful of him all this time because of the venomous lies spouted by Lennox, the very man who was responsible for the downfall of his beloved wife, thus villifying Alexander in her eyes. All poor Alexander has done is try to pick up the pieces and raise other people's children while being riddled with his own grief and more than likely misplaced guilt as he is not the one who broke his vows and betrayed his spouse with adultery. I have no doubt that the only reason why Lucy felt any remorse was because she got caught as her liaison was not a one-time lapse in judgment, not that I find that excusable either, but a multiple encounter affair, so she knew exactly what she was doing. Alexander is the TRUE protector here (not the stereotypical man in uniform), but his late wife's secrets that would scandalize poor little Leonora's existence, who is the innocent victim in this whole mess, prevented him from speaking to Charlotte more openly.
Susan, you're our saviour ! Episode 4 today, here in the UK. I feel as though I've already watched it thanks to you and others on RUclips - but I don't mind a bit.
oh no! poor Leo to hear that about her parentage. Im so sad that she had to hear that at the door, that is not the way to find such a thing out. Im glad about Charlotte and Alexander though.
First Kiss: By the end of S2E5, CH is head over heels for AC, tumbling closer towards him with each encounter, having laid bare her heart to the power of his love with a soft grab of his thumb on the sofa. He leans towards her ever so gently and we’re all with her in knowing what’s coming. She moves closer to him without hesitation. There is so much being said with all that softness. I have found that this scene cannot be watched too many times. There’s the question of the propriety for a Regency era spinster of three and twenty to be alone in a room with a man not her husband, but she values many 20th Century standards, so she is not a typical woman of that era, and it is for that reason we are interested in her. Anyway, I’m going with Charlotte on the subject since she has already expressed her opinion, “Well, society is wrong! Sir!”
Well done, indeed! I am excessively diverted! Oh, but to be in love and in doubt of a return! It truly is too much to Bourn! To be kept in such suspense! They should have more compassion for my poor nerves!
The acting and writing on Sanditon is so great. Didn't expect the kiss until the last episode! Hope Leo can be healed and there isn't a repeat of history. A change of subject but I find myself FIGHTING the urge to fast forward Edward's scenes which is a tribute to his acting ability!
Oh good I'm glad it's not just me! 😂 If for some reason I was ever accidentally sat next to the actor who plays Edward (on an airplane or something) I feel like I'd have a hard time not glaring at him, haha... really is a tribute to his acting ability! 😂
Same here. Edward makes me sick. And honestly I want to scream at Clara. She better get it together and do the right thing in episode 6 or I will be mad. I want to cry for Esther. And really, Lady D, you are being extra obtuse right now. Wake up and see what is happening!
@Anne Curran yes I think Lady D is written as a pretty sharp character so I think it would be more believable to see at least a tiny hint of suspicion on her face when it comes to Esther's newfound health problems (that only started occurring after her step brother showed back up!🙄)
Best episode yet, season 2 is way better than season 1, I can't believe this series ever got canceled, what were they thinking. I think we will be seeing these actors / actresses for many years to come. Characters that you love and characters that you love to hate. Excellent writing, superb acting. I was hoping/thinking this episode would turn out the way it did, it did not disappoint. I was cheering at the TV screen hoping that Colburne would lay a big wet sloppy kiss on Charlotte and he did. The way she looked at him when they danced made my heart flutter Poor poor Leonora, I fear she will confront Lennox somehow and that will somehow push Colburne over the edge.( I hope he bashes lennox's head in ) Too much more to say, I could go on and on. I might be able to wait a week for the next episode, but I don't see how I'm going to be able to wait till next year for season three.
That was a GREAT kiss. I was splashing cold water on my face at the end of this episode. LOL I also loved the kiss between Miss Lambe and Mr. Lockhart. I just hope she can trust him. Can't quite figure him out.
I think the writers have been clever the way they have handled Theo James not returning, his death made Charlotte herself and her story more interesting and poignant and it has also been part of Georgianas story. So rather than just sort of sweep him under the carpet they have used his 'presence' to push the story forward
Sanditon and Downton Abbey have this in common. When Matthew Crawley's character in Downton decided not to return, his death on the show was a real shocker (and a downer) for the viewers. However, writers said later that his death actually improved the show's story arc. People tuned in to see how the writers would handle Matthew's death.
@@KellerThree Good point! You reminded me how horrified I was by Matthew's accident and it's true viewers were very engaged and tuned in to see what would happen next.
He is such a man of honour and integrity!! To think that HE fell responsible for his wife shortcomings and death and shouldered that burden alone. Only Charlotte could be his perfect match for she displays the same qualities and on top of that she can challenge him in his ways and his thinking. I guess she will be the one to heal the Colborne / Markham’s wound (as someone else so beautifully said in a comment). I absolutely love Sanditon and thought episode 5 of season 2 was the best so far. My only negative critic is I am not at all on board with those weekly episode. I just want to binge watch the this show over and over, on repeat…🥰. I already saw episode 5 but thank you for posting these clips. It spares me from fast forwarding to my favorite scenes when I feel like it. I HATE Edward Denham so bad I couldn’t watch any of his scenes. Such a vile caracter 🤮.
I agree that Charlotte and Alexander are the perfect match ❤️ And you’ll notice I haven’t posted any of Edward because I can’t stand to look at him either!
I am positive Clara will be the one coming through for Esther. I never thought she was bad. Just a survivor. But all will probably be reveal at the end of season 3.
The beauty of it includes her own vulnerability, that if he persisted in his blaming himself for the past he won't get the future that he wants and which she can imagine for him. I really think his kissing her was about appreciating her acceptance, but also a recognition that it might be possible for him to have something with her going forwards. What is even more interesting is how it begins. Mrs. Wheatley imagines it to be a typical evening, he's gone out and is now returning, so she's giving him her report. Then she sees Charlotte, and says, "I wasn't expecting you." Neither says anything, which lets her know that something is up. This isn't a typical evening return from going out, so she draws the kids away. She gives him a final glance: team Heybourne!
If Alexander and Charlotte end this season happily married, there will be nothing left for Season Three. Because Allison and Frazer marry, it is unlikely that Season 2 will feature more than one wedding.
The Two Flos: I will watch anything that these two actors appear in. Flo the Elder has deep acting chops, so there is catching up to do with her past work. For now, her Mrs. Wheatley knows what Lady Susan knows - you can’t fight love and come away the victor. She is the family’s history book, and she knows what prevents AC from allowing himself to be happy. We will need her in Season 4 (we can hope!) to quietly steady the new family finding its way and to reveal the reason for her strong bond with AC. Flora the Younger is the wise Leo, and she commands attention at every appearance on the screen. Even with Leo’s unconventional view of herself, her Leo is a most credible and persuasive character. It is clear from the Better Father scene that her father loves her fiercely, so I expect that in Seasons 4 and 5 (we can hope even more!) she will be there to help calm the storm when he questions himself again.
Much discussion on this point has already been had, see further down and Archery contest (I think). Not sure we could reach an altogether satisfactory conclusion.
I would truly love to see another season of this show, to see how Charlotte and Xander continue their lives together. Don't think it's gonna happen, and I don't know what kind of conflict would be needed to make this an exciting continuation since there is no such thing as a happy ending. They make such a beautiful couple; maybe these two wonderful actors can work together again and give us a new world to love.
Ok then, he has 9 year's to make up for and if this kiss is anything to go by the future certainly looks very bright. Love this 2nd season, can't wait for Sunday nights.♥️
Well well well. Now what in the world is going to keep them apart until Season 3? Charlotte will help Leo heal her heart and bring the family together. I am such a sap.
Me too God I just love them together plus I just realized Colburne has no biological children of his own! Charlotte better marry him and help out that front lol
@@elizabethkennedy9733 Even before this episode, I was thinking given that Charlotte’s mom not only gave birth to 11(!) kids but they’re all living and the older ones are so obviously well-educated, that from the perspective of being great mother material, Charlotte is an amazing catch!
Yeah...I loved this scene! (Haha! That kiss!) I do wonder how they are going to do season three...My thought is they will go the Jane Eyre way (wife actually alive) or the Sound of Music way (something happens in Sanditon that they will have to fight together (with maybe Ms Lambs love interest taking the romance lead...) don’t know but actually really enjoying it!
I'm sure they won't have a totally smooth ride, but I do hope that they get a happy ending :) I'm assuming that they found Lucy dead so the likelihood of her being alive is slim, BUT stranger things have happened on television! I hope there is some type of confrontation with Lennox and he gets exposed for the rogue that he is.
@@jennanadrolewicz yes!! I would love if Leonora is part of that confrontation and she says something like “he (Alex) kind and is more a father to me that you will ever be!” Or something like that lol!
So I'm a late bloomer to Sanditon. I didn't get really interested in it till last year (Aug 2023). Saw parts of it on channel 7 (PBS/Masterpiece) in Utah in March -Season 2, 2022 & March- Season 3, 2023 when it aired. So let me just say that Charlotte gave Colbourne the green light when she put her hand in his and today, people if you do that not much has changed!!! The kiss as all scenes is well "choreographed" right down to his lip coming up to meet her. (I read Ben's interviews, he says that they filmed all day that scene and they always had an intimacy director/coordinator on set). Sorry Ladies. The director has a vision and directs the actors to what they want seen. So say thank you to the actors, directors, writers, and producers for everything. The kiss on his estate outside the next day....... Colbourne could not keep his lips off her!!!!! He has it bad. Did you notice the flirting that Colbourn would do from the first meet??? Charlotte was not sure what he was doing, but it was getting obvious with the flowers and the comment he made about the garden party. Did you see her looking at him after that comment??? Did you see Colbourne squirm in his seat when Charlotte talked about leaving her position in his office??? Did Ben do that on his own or did the director direct him. If Ben did that on his own, THAT was great. The breakup scene. OMG. When I watched it in Aug, (after getting my hands on the DVD's), it didn't get to me, but after reading an interview that Ben did on the internet, I watched it again weeks later and I must of not been in a good mood that day, but I broke down in tears!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I finally got what he was going to say!!!!!!!! But OMG did Colbourne say it in Season 3. The dance!!! Did Colbourne seduce Charlotte???? OH YES He knew what he was doing. He is a smart rich man. Thanks again to Colbourne (Ben) and the director for that scene. The cliff kiss, Colbourne is rejected again. Charlotte was so messed up after that. Mentally and emotionally screwed up. So was Colbourne. It didn't show it on the show how both were messed up. Colbourne got pissy?? I had to laugh at the scene where Charlotte, Mrs. Parker, & Ralph( boring) go to see Colbourne. Charlotte kissed Colbourne and now she is sitting at his house with Ralph. Colbourne is not liking it and probably hurt by it. But it happens in real life!!!!!!!!! I wished there had been a Season 4.
I felt the same way. I'm worried about how it will affect Leonora and what she will do with that information. After hearing Charlotte's last piece of incredibly wise advice for him, I hope the show writers will have Charlotte help Colbourne to see how important it is for both Leonora and Colbourne that he honor Lucy's memory and the love he had with her by being a loving and kind father to Leonora. Being more involved with the girl will be healing for both of them. She needs a father and it certainly can not be Lennox! I can imagine scenes where he buys her a microscope and he takes her out to explore the land and collect all kinds of specimens to study! 🙏
@@elizabethkennedy9733 Thank you! It's true, I am a hopeless romantic. However, this part of the story resonated for me because my father died before I was born and I grew up without a father. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
@@elizabethkennedy9733 Thank you very much. That's very kind of you. This storyline took me by surprise this season. As Barbra Streisand once described it from her own experience of growing up without a father (hers died when she was a baby), "it's a hole in your soul that never goes away". It took me years to come out of denial and admit that to myself. Like Leonora, I grew up believing that "you can't miss what you never had". I'm very impressed by how the writers have (so far) handled this part of the story. And I love how Charlotte is nudging him with truth and not cliches.
Well I figured Leonora could be for Lennox…their names are similar, eyes and hair too. I hope Charlotte told him every word and action Lennox did. Please Charlotte just love Alexander back. Mrs. Wheatley might have to help them become a couple. Oh, I hope Charlotte will tell Tom, Mary, Allison and Georgiana what that disgusting Lennox did to her! I didn’t think I would see a kiss this season so that was a welcome surprise. Thanks for doing this Susan. Did the episode end like this?
Yes, that fade to black was the end of the episode. Such a beautiful end 🥰 I don’t imagine it will be completely clear sailing for these two, with another whole season to come. But it certainly does feel like they found their future in each other.
@@elizabethkennedy9733 😀 So I have no idea how many episodes will be in Season 3. I am hoping that what we will see is Charlotte and Alexander working through some issues TOGETHER. I am hoping that Charlotte will help him tell the girls the truth. Once they know the truth... Will Lennox be a jerk and want to take Lenora or will he just pretend Lenora is not his. I am hoping he will not want to have anything to do with Lenora unless it makes him change into a better man. I think we will learn how Augusta's parents died in season 3. From watching these clips and not the episode I am happy to see the girls are already attached to Charlotte. I adore Alexander and what he did and how he lives speaks volumes on how amazing he is. So far he looks a bit intimidated by Lennox and I am hoping in season 3 we will see Alexander stand firm against Lennox. Dreaming me would love for there to be a scene where Charlotte enters a room and Lennox calls her Miss Heywood just to have Alexander right after say 'correction it's Mrs. Colbourne'. That would be a good invisible punch into Lennox's gut... and I am here for that!
@@elizabethkennedy9733 LOL no gift just dreaming. I would love to know someone who already know the very last episode so that I could know and peacefully watch.
I was literally squealing when I saw that this episode was up on Prime! One more episode and then we have to wait a WHOLE YEAR for Season 3! IT'S SO CRUEL!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 Episode 6 had better be a whopper! I wonder if Lennox knows that Leonora is his. Ugh, what a mess. Everyone, including the child, thinking she is your child, but she is actually your enemy's child. And if you were to place her back with her blood, you (and she) would bear the heartbreak of having a child you housed and raised (and I hope loved) since she was a baby, and had her thinking she was yours, being just cut out of your life. What a pickle. I hate that Colbourne and Lennox are permanently connected, and in this way 😩 And Leonora is so precious. I hate these lies and scandal for her, that she never chose. On a lighter note, I think Mrs. Wheatly ships Colbourne and Charlotte, lol.
@@susanfirth9883 Oh yes, I have no doubt that Leo is a good girl. It's she and those that love and care for her having to reconcile what really happened and this fake normal life, that is so unsettling. 💔
Just loving this season of Sanditon! Is this from the last episode or is there one more after this?? If so, I have no idea what could happen but I hope Charlotte stays, any spoilers would be appreciated lol
There are not 8 episodes?.. Oh dear that will not do!! I would love to see more of this beautiful tenderness btw them as they are both beginning to trust one another.
I unfortunately saw a pretty huge spoiler for the end of the last episode from someone else that watched it, and I feel like it might be very disappointing.
Thank you for sharing, such a beautiful clip. Do you happen to have the clip where they are walking? I can see Charlotte saying something and it starts with him playing with the dog? I found the scene in one of your compiled videos. I guess it might be from Episode 6 or possibly 6?
That scene of them walking together is when they're looking for Leonora. Called Charles and Alexander find Leonora, and it is posted here S2:E3. The scene where she bends to pet the dog is when she believes she has lost the job and walks away. Later Alexander rides out to the cliffs to tell her she has the job after all. That is S2:E1 Charlotte's interview, also posted here.
@@susanfirth9883 Thank you! I saw that one. There is another clip where they kiss while they are walking? That scene. It's in the compiled videos. And he's petting the dog, not Charlotte.
I've never seen a scene like that, and there has only been one kiss and it's at the end of Episode 5. Are you sure it's Charlotte and Alexander from Sanditon?
I agree, but just remember they have another whole season to go. I expect that they will throw some roadblocks at them, but it’s so clear to me how much they love each other, they’ll get through it ❤️❤️
They are all posted. Unfortunately the BBC blocked them for viewing in the UK, which is where I’m assuming you are? I’m so sorry there’s nothing I can do about that. There are people who have virtual IP addresses that allow them to view things in other countries, you might look into that.
@@susanfirth9883 yes, that’s where I am. Typical that they allow all the others but not the last one🤦♀️😂. Thank you letting me know, I’ll just have to wait until next week. 🥰
I haven't seen anyone mention this yet, but now that we know they "married young" how is that possible when Lucy's twin sister has an 18 year old daughter (Augusta)? How old is Colbourne? The actor, Ben Lloyd-Hughes is only 33 (turns 34 on April 14).
I've heard that mentioned and it might be a plot hole. But there are still mysteries to uncover about Lucy's twin and how she died. We'll talk after the finale in Season 3 😂
@@susanfirth9883 It seems strange that if it's a plot hole that someone didn't catch it, but it happens! I'd also like to know what is Colbourne's work? He seems busy every day, but doing what? More mysteries to be revealed indeed!
@@amritawhitman8112 a few of us discussed on another video, we speculated Augusta was adopted, maybe daughter from her father's first marriage or indeed a bit of a convenient plot hole by the writers??
It is possible Augusta's mother married even younger than Lucy. If she married at 16 (Lydia Bennet married Wickham at that age) and had Augusta quickly the age works. COL Lennox mentioned Augusta looks like her mom/Lucy so adoption doesn't work. Alexander and Lucy could have married in their early twenties which would still be "young".
I can’t remember the last time I fell so hard for a fictional character as I did with Xander. My gawd 🤤🥵 The heat and passion behind those brown eyes is intoxicating!!😍 I agree that he Is a way better match for Charlotte then Sidney ever was. Rewatching season 1 is so painful now, not only because of the tragic ending of their love story, but also because in comparison to Mr. Colbourne, Sidney was kind of a grade A asshat for the majority of the season. I'm obsessed with Sanditon now. This and Bridgerton season 2 are on constant repeat!
Hey, Ladies! The months are ticking by...about 3 months to go? Miss our, sometimes nightly, talks! Alexander STILL does it for me! 😌 Busy time of the year will make the months go by faster...Happy coming Holidays to all!🎃🍗🎄
Oh I can finally comment. Love this so much Susan. Using it to check on my comments since there was something wrong with my account. This is 🔥😍🔥😍 completely. Oh let’s see if this works 🤞
There was an accidental release onto iTunes that lasted for a very short time and some were allowed to watch Ep 6. Most of us chose not to get it because the season is short enough as it is. ❤️
It's not my choice. Those have been blocked by the BBC for viewing in all countries except for US and Canada. I'm sorry, but I have no control over that ❤
Four months later and this video never gets old. Undeniable chemistry! Thank you, Susan.
I agree, I'd find it hard to watch season 1 after 2 and 3. I find Sidney harsh compared to Alexander.
Totally agree!
Sydney was very rude to Charlotte in S1 at the beginning. Not gentleman-like at all.
I agree. They are both so good in this scene, near tears - Alexander reliving the pain, and Charlotte feeling it through him ❤️ Ending in the kiss 🔥🥰
@@susanfirth9883 Charlotte didn't me the future with her It may turn out that way but not for a whole season
Yeah, I felt that way a year ago, and feel even stronger about it now!
Rose...I feel the same.

Theo who ?
@Dillards Shopper yes Season 3 has been shot already with Charlotte and Alexander Colbourne as the main characters (End game)
I was really mad at the end of Season 1…and then for them to tell us it was cancelled- after that unsatisfactory ending???!!!! What???!!! 😠🤬
But you are right- I watched season 2 reluctantly and it totally won me over. Everything was better- writing, story, chemistry, love scenes…everything!
Their chemistry is unmatched, better than Charlotte & Sidney. I actually prefer this season much better! That kiss was perfect. 😍
I agree! After all we went through to get season 2 we really won big with the way things turned out!

I too find myself watching this scene over and over. So romantic and great character development for both Charlotte and Alexander.
Me too, loved the on screen chemistry of Ben and Rose. Excellent acting. Hoping for a 😊 ending in S3.
Can you leave the link for yours as well? 🙂
🥰 They make this such a sweet scene with those small gestures of trust and affection. I can't seem to stop watching this one! ❤️❤️

Thank you for adding that. I saw that in the newsletter and it was so interesting to read!

@@frogprincess8203 She wasn't talking about them having a future together. That would be WILDLY presumptuous of Charlotte. Of course she meant all of them together, but she definitely told him how she felt with that comment. It wasn't presumptuous, she'd felt the electricity between them and he had already admitted he was afraid of what she'd think of him - she took hold of his hand.
@@frogprincess8203 IMO her statement his 'dear future' can be taken both ways, in general & also with herself.
Yes! Thank you so much for posting this!

Hoping for a happy ending in season 3.Season 2 much better than season 1. Hope this show will continue for as long as it need to.
He's a darn good kisser!!!❤❤❤
Totally agree👏👏🔥🔥🥰
Especially for someone who hasn’t done it for 9 years! A lot of pent up passion!
And Mrs. Whitley also seems to be a kind of mother figure for the girls, which I think is very nice. The good soul of the house ❤
Mrs Wheatley is great
Susan, you're our saviour !
That house keeper is low key shipping them. She's like "Your daddy needs to ask Miss Hayward a question, let's go..."
😂😂She is.
Love Ms. Wheatly!
The way he shifts his left shoulder to tuck her into it.....aaaaagh! 😍😍😍 And the way she grabs his arm at the end...
SAME! I can barely stand to look at Edward, and from what I understand, Jack Fox is actually a really nice guy so it’s very good acting. 😂
Same. I actually do fast forward them, and then go back after the fact. I literally hate that man!
The way she looked at him when they danced made my heart flutter
Poor poor Leonora, I fear she will confront Lennox somehow and that will somehow push Colburne over the edge.( I hope he bashes lennox's head in )
Too much more to say, I could go on and on.
I might be able to wait a week for the next episode, but I don't see how I'm going to be able to wait till next year for season three.
WOW! Thank You. 😊🥰
One of the best emotional scenes of all. The truth and to trust.
That was absolutely lovely. I was just happy he was finally opening up to her, and then, that kiss...wow. 💙💠
That was a GREAT kiss. I was splashing cold water on my face at the end of this episode. LOL I also loved the kiss between Miss Lambe and Mr. Lockhart. I just hope she can trust him. Can't quite figure him out.
Yes, both those kisses were 🔥
I think the writers have been clever the way they have handled Theo James not returning, his death made Charlotte herself and her story more interesting and poignant and it has also been part of Georgianas story. So rather than just sort of sweep him under the carpet they have used his 'presence' to push the story forward
I agree. I'm very impressed by how they wove it into the story and it really has made it much more interesting to watch.
Best period series ever
That kiss made my toes curl... holy moley.
Yes it’s my all time favourite,I just need help i keep watching repeats ,& wish they would do another season or two or three
They remind me of Mr Darcy and Lizzie Bennett. Much more emotional during seasons 2 & 3
Sanditon is soooo much better than Bridgerton!
Agree. I’m not sure if I’ll ever watch season 2 of bridgerton.
They are both great!!
Yes it is!!
Do you think Clara might come good and do right by Esther and tell her what Edward is up too?
I agree that Charlotte and Alexander are the perfect match ❤️ And you’ll notice I haven’t posted any of Edward because I can’t stand to look at him either!
@@susanfirth9883 Your comment made me laugh! Saying/thinking his name has become almost like a curse word to me.
I am positive Clara will be the one coming through for Esther. I never thought she was bad. Just a survivor. But all will probably be reveal at the end of season 3.
@@gerom2712 I agree. Clara just like Esther fell for Edward’s lies. The ladies will win and Edward will lose rightfully.
My heart melted seeing this scene. Sydney who?
If Alexander and Charlotte end this season happily married, there will be nothing left for Season Three. Because Allison and Frazer marry, it is unlikely that Season 2 will feature more than one wedding.
A scene demanding multiple views, indeed!
I keep wondering what Alexander would have done if Lennox had not abandoned Lucy?
Leo so excited that dad brought home potential mum!!😁
It is clear from the Better Father scene that her father loves her fiercely, so I expect that in Seasons 4 and 5 (we can hope even more!) she will be there to help calm the storm when he questions himself again.
saw alexander's actor on the crown!!! Got hyped again for next seasonn
I’m confused. if Alexander says he and Lucy married young, how old was her sister when she gave birth to Augusta knowing that they were twins.
I question the same...I think writers goofed here....but let's go with it for the sake of everything else
Much discussion on this point has already been had, see further down and Archery contest (I think). Not sure we could reach an altogether satisfactory conclusion.
Yeah good question. I wonder if was an oversight, or if Alexander and Lucy couldn't conceive?
I would truly love to see another season of this show, to see how Charlotte and Xander continue their lives together. Don't think it's gonna happen, and I don't know what kind of conflict would be needed to make this an exciting continuation since there is no such thing as a happy ending. They make such a beautiful couple; maybe these two wonderful actors can work together again and give us a new world to love.
Ok then, he has 9 year's to make up for and if this kiss is anything to go by the future certainly looks very bright. Love this 2nd season, can't wait for Sunday nights.♥️
Oh Susan. I stay up so late every night because of you. 😂 This scene still hasn’t gotten old! 😘😘😘

So perfect together!
Well well well. Now what in the world is going to keep them apart until Season 3? Charlotte will help Leo heal her heart and bring the family together. I am such a sap.

Not a sap, a hopeless romantic groundcontrol and good observation Lindsey. They should go on and have loads of babies together ❤

Gracias, gracias, gracias,Susan por compartirlo en español .Larga vida para ti y los tuyos con mucha salud, pazy prosperidad ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
Oh nooooooo poor baby heard 😢 like I'm ecstatic over the kiss but now I'm worried!
@@amritawhitman8112 you are a hopeless romantic. You have described this perfectly 🥰

Michelle, you, Blue Ginger and Rusian all predicted this ages ago. Maybe you can predict what is going to happen in season 3 and let me know 😉
Yes, that fade to black was the end of the episode.

One more episode and then we have to wait a WHOLE YEAR for Season 3! IT'S SO CRUEL!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Episode 6 had better be a whopper!
All true 😢 But I have hope that Leo is more like the father who raised her than her birth father 🥰 And Mrs. Wheatley is definitely Team Heybourne! 👍

@@amritawhitman8112 a few of us discussed on another video, we speculated Augusta was adopted, maybe daughter from her father's first marriage or indeed a bit of a convenient plot hole by the writers??
@@elizabethkennedy9733 Oh that's an interesting idea! Maybe we'll learn about her parents.
