Thank you for a great idea.. cutting picture frames is sometimes tricky and could get expensive.. this is a great way to finish it off!!

I think it looks a lot better for the decking to overhang and the fascia to butt underneath the decking. The way you described how most people do it.
But you should do perimeter boards around the whole deck, so you don't see the ends of the boards. Not a must, cleaner look. Perimeter boards require a whole lot of extra blocking and a lot more time.
It's just a personal preference/opinion. I don't like the way it looks when the fascia is flush with the decking. But I've done many like that.

Why do you tape the rim joist?

Have you ever used white facia board under the solid deck board as contrast or always used the same color ? Thanks

I saw you used a spacer to pull the fascia away from the rim board - Then you took the spacer out - So there is a gap, but no spacer behind? I am just an average DIY guy, so this is all learning for me. Do I need spacers cut and then installed to the rim board then fascia ontop of that - or can just gap it and not have it completely screwed tight? thanks so much

If I go flush with the fascia boards too the top of the deck boards to hide the cut ends of the composite boards should I use a clear silicone too prevent water from getting behind the fascia boards ?

I forget how you do stairs (flush first run, or drop first run), but how do you manage the stepped fascia where stairs attach if you do drop first run? Are the risers installed in the same stepped pattern?
