Judging on pure driving skills, he is for me the best from his generation.
A lot of F1 drivers on the grid now,when they were kids have watched Fernando rise to become champion and dreamt of winning one for themselves. Thats why he has that respect from the paddock. Racing since 2001 thats longevity my friends. Some drivers have lasted only a race or 2 in F1.

I think, Mclaren really capitalised on the retirement of Alonso, it freed up 40 million for development of the car, and they used that really well.
