    Bought a mercury based on this review and finally had a chance to ride it today! (Mt. Hood Timberline opening day) It felt incredibly nimble and was lightning fast edge to edge! Even as a newbie sill learning to jump I could feel the camber helping me pop up into the air. Bottom line, paired with the union force this guy is responsive as fuck. Really looking forward to progress on this quiver of one!

    Hey. Already have one of these due to your recommendations and it is absolutely wild. Couldn't say better things about it so thank you! Gave my friend a turn and he doesn't like it cause its too stable at warp speed and he thinks he's going to orphan his kids if he gets on it again. Question, what else could I buy that would be better for pressing, butters and general mucking around on the mountain? The Mercury is fantastic, but every time I ride it it just wants to go berserk and kill everything in its path while laughing at me manically. Thanks in advance :)

    I owned one of the first generation Mercuries just after they got renamed from the TFA. It was a great board - totally as described in all your review to date. Last week I tried out a new one - 161 on hardpack. The edge hold was horrendous, it just slipped around like a wet eel and I was on my ass more times in one hour than the past ten years.
    Have they changed it? It felt like the contact points had been really pinched in for more rocker zone??? It was also softer than I remember.

      If you're a confident and competent rider shouldn't be an issue, if you're someone that doesn't understand ankle flexion and how to drive an edge in that way probably not the board for you. Here's the thing I've realized most people that snap a Capita are 1. Idiots that tomahawked down a mountain dug the nose/tail in and the board just folded and cracked. 2. Hit a rail at mach ten speeds and then complained it's not covered under warranty, probably the same people that hit a deer with their car and then try to get it covered. 3. Over the weight limit by a long shot but have never learned how to ride a board sized appropriately for them and upset that their fat ass broke it.
      Every brand will break under the right conditions.

Always ridden Burton since they've never let me down but curious to branch out. @@bbolanda18 thanks for the heads up. But the stars aligned and I was able to pick up a 2020 Mercury 155 at a discount a few weeks ago. Ridden it twice and am loving the flex, edge hold and playfulness of the camber/rocker tips. Factory wax on the base is quick (not as quick as my Custom tho). Both quick and long carves are fun. The extra width is a little noticeable at slow speeds (toe edge turns are a little slow to initiate) but at normal speeds momentum takes over and its a non issue. Haven't ridden any pow yet so can't comment on float. The board is super light and agile which I love. Damping is good and I don't really notice any chatter at the tips. Graphics are surprisingly dope (much better in person than online) which is nice. 8.5/10 until I get a chance to ride it in pow. Would recommend.

    Excellent review. How would you compare the Mercury to the Burton Free Thinker?

    • @AngrySnowboarder
      @AngrySnowboarder  5 лет назад +3

      Free Thinker is going to be a bit more freeride oriented and I believe (don't quote me on this haven't been on one in a while) is slightly stiffer.

      @@AngrySnowboarder Great thanks. I have a Free Thinker. You may think I'm crazy, but I like it a lot. It is pretty stiff. I think that's why it's not a crowd favourite. I've been eying of the Mercury for the last year. Thanks for you view !

    Between this board and the Jones Frontier which board is better at carving and holds a better edge? Or would you say they are fairly close as far as edge hold goes? I am on the east coast so that is number one priority for me because of the icy conditions that happen sometimes.

    • @AngrySnowboarder
      @AngrySnowboarder  4 года назад +1

      The Frontier has magnetraction so it will compensate for someone that can't hold an edge on ice better.

      @@AngrySnowboarder right on. So would you say that makes the Explorer the better board for carving?

    • @AngrySnowboarder
      @AngrySnowboarder  4 года назад +1

      No it will just grip better on that boiler plate crap the east coast gets. The Mercury is the better board through and through.

      @@AngrySnowboarder cool man thanks for that bit of info and reply. Love your reviews and your brutally blunt and honest reviews. Mercury it is. Coming from a outerspace living here so the camber profile is basically the same besides the little bit of setback the mercury has and the flex difference

    Hi good evening,
    I have been riding the regular DOA and the Jones mountain twin this season and both feel pretty good. I’m looking to purchase maybe the Capita Mercury or Super DOA. Would you say the Mercury is more aggressive than the Super DOA? Also Is the Mercury much more aggressive than the regular doa and mountain twin? I’m between intermediate and advanced skill level, 5’9, 175-180 pounds, 10.5 boot, ride 60% all mountain 40% park also want to hit natural features, side hits, and butter around. What size should I be looking at in the Mercury or SDOA? Thank you much in advance for the advice it’s really appreciated!

      No. Just get the Mercury you'll be fine.

      Thank you much for the advice again! Do you think the Union Atlas bindings are too stiff or a good fit for the Mercury? In your opinion what’s a good option? Again 60% all mountain (natural jumps, hips, buttering around, bombing, carving) and 40% park riding.
