  • Rizom-Lab has released RizomUV 2020.0 Virtual Spaces (VS) and RizomUV 2020.0 Real Space (RS), the latest versions of its UV unwrapping applications and today we would take a look at how to get started with this awesome tool.
    There are integration plugins for 3ds Max, Blender, Cinema 4D, LightWave, Maya, Modo and ZBrush.

      Used Rizom on both 4 core i3570k and 32 core 2990WX didn't notice any difference.

    Hi :) how to select polygons or edges only inside lasso or selection rectangle? Because on defaults I can select all polygons or edges which crossing selection rectangle - but not only those polygons which are completlely inside this rectangle.
    I mean function similar to 3dsMax Window/Crossing selection toggle on main toolbar
    I cannot find this information anywhere

    It sounds interesting probably for Blender users. As for MayaLT's UVU tool its extremely similar to Rizomuv (since they dramatically changed the UV unwrapping in 2018). I was thinking of switching to Blender since its free, but for game development, Maya still beats blender when it comes to rigging, retopologizing (quad draw) and certainly UV mapping. Switching to Blender would mean relying on other external software for retopologizing (like Topogun) and UV unwrapping (like RizomUV), the combination of which would be more expensive than MayaLT license (let alone giving away Maya's powerful rigging and animation tools)

    It looks like a cool app but I can already uv fairly quick in maya using a combination of camera view uv projections, cutting seams, unfolding and optimize. It would have to be able to some crazy fast stuff to mitigate the pain of exporting from Maya, importing to Rizom to then UV and bring back to Maya (not a huge deal, but given the time it takes to do all that, would Prob take the same time to UV a mesh in native maya tools, for me. I'm saying all this without giving it a fair try though - I'll check out the trial today!

    Is there any special third party software for retopology? I use blender. And it's tedious in blender

      Wrap3 is your best bet. Retopo will always be tedious if done manually

      Blender is the best retopology tool out there if you know what you're doing. But keep an eye on RetopoFlow 3, it's coming soon. Topogun is a specialized retopology tool. I doubt it's really worth the cost if you already know Blender.
      Blender is really good for retopo-- wide variety of modelling tools, fast hotkey workflow, sculpting tools, modifiers.
      And yeah, Retopo is always tedious, but that's what some people like about it!

      @@darkknight4353 There is mitical beast called Topogun 3 beta and "really soon" it suppose to be Topogan 3. From my emails with creator, any with topogun 2 license will need buy completly new licence to have topogun 3 so i suggest to pirate tp2 and wait for tp3 to buy it legally

    Is it better than UV tools in Maya and Max?

      Hi. It has a lot of similarity with Maya's UV, better than Max in my opinion, but for the most part it's tailored to UV and that to a huge extent makes it a worthy tool since it does UV a bit faster and more efficient than most DCC tools.
