Doing decent "passable" sweeping isn't really as hard and scary as most people perceive it, the hardest part is making it all sound clear and fluent. Props to Ola for always learning and evolving!

This, and when we start going into patterns that aren't just up-down plus other shapes beyond minor, major, and diminished. But sweeping is such a fun world to explore much like other techniques

I've been learning a bunch of Between The Buried and Me songs like Selkies and Alaska, progressing slowly through each riff. They got a lot of wicked technique, and a lot of the sweeping parts are frankly easier than their fast alternate riffage, take opening of Backwards Marathon for example. Anyways, I gotta get back to practicing lol.

    Hey Ola :)
Short Question, How you Setup your DAW to Capture the Sound into your Recording Software?
I would like to Stream some Recording Session on Twitch.
The only way i found was with "VoiceMeter" but.... holy crap, the latency is horror-terror-fucking-damn-creapy-shit.
I can remember that you some Month ago talked about a "VST-Effect" that broadcast your stereo Out onto a Broadcast server and that will bring you the sound of your DAW into OBS....
Well, it looks like google isnt my friend currently OR... i'm to stupid to look for...... ok... the last can be but thats not the point :)
Can you Tell me short how do you capture your Output?
    I'm currently using:
Windows 10 (i know it sucks)
Behringer Uphoria UMC 1820 USB Interface
    Streamlabs OBS Broadcaster
    Cubase 10.5 Professional

Holy Moly on a Goaly xP Why no one hasn't told what to ACTUALLY do with your pick while sweeping? All the tutorials what I've seen have only told like "you have to just glide your pick over the strings like this" and then they just keep swoopin and poopin and I can't make any sense of their stupid lessons because they just didn't show this one little detail that actually might made all the difference whether or not I might actually be able to sweep after all. We'll see, have to try it once I'm done with this comment :D Because of all those other tutorials I've always thought that you actually have to glide the pick over the strings and it just never sounds good. This guy actually digs in quite deep and is actually picking the strings rather than tickling them like you'd have a feather in your fingers. Because of how he does it, it might actually made sense to me, finally. And yes I actually used this word way too fucking much. Sorry but actually not sorry :D

I am no expert but I have been sweeping comfortably for a long time now and I tried this out. My 'newness' to this method aside, I feel like this is more complicated than the way that I learned it. With his picking technique your picking hand is almost always ahead of your left hand. Being that the main issue people seem to have with sweeping is keeping their hands in sync (and of course muting) this seems like added complexity by having one hand one step ahead of the other instead of simply together. The reasoning for the added complexity (as he stated) was (essentially) for a secure feeling to make sure you don't hit the wrong string but is that a problem people actually have when sweeping? It's always the next string so idk how you run into that problem. Not to mention this makes sweeping seem less fluid since its a series of bouncing to and stopping at the next string. Also turning around when you hit the low note but then suddenly skipping resting on the next string just seemed awkward.
Both of these guitarists are immensely talented and I'm not trying to take anything away from that. Also I always appreciate people willing to put out free lessons. I'm just curious if this method deserves some criticism.

    • @Shredwizard445
      @Shredwizard445 4 года назад

@@pedrosilvaproductions the trick is to mix hybrid picking with string skipping and sweeping, to have multi technical approaches to groupings of notes, then different picking accents per note. Then tapping and slides from shape to shape or note grouping. Then various patterns leading into bends, or rakes or sweeps leading into bends.
I find that its easier to "flow" with a "hammer ons from no-where" approach to sweeping and string skipping. You can have limitless fluidity through chord changes with accents from the right hand.

Greetings Ola the learnerer! You recall Sylosis-ish riff on you last Sunday with Ola and this particular sweep move on 5:04 reminds me of Empyreal by Sylosis;) Btw, Josh told on one of his streams that it would be great to have a coffee with you, make it happen pls:)
