It takes a certain amount of humility to put yourself out there like this and show people that you can always learn more or be better. Thanks for the video Ola!
I cannot say enough how important minimizing the amount of excess movement and pressure is, which Jon touches on very well. How hard do you need to fret? Just hard enough. How hard do you need to pick/pluck? Just hard enough. Any more is just a waste of energy and time, and will slow you down. Great video.
First, Ola thanks for introducing many of us to Jon. I am doing his video exchange students and he has given me so much to work on. He gave me that first exercise he is showing here and it did a MASSIVE amount for my timing.
I practice first thing in the morning, then I start my day, without practice I question my whole existence. When people say I don’t have time, get up an hour earlier and make that hour time to practice. Awesome to see Jon on hear I’ve learned so much from him, excellent teacher and musician. Excellent questions Ola!!
Jon helped me level up my gains on guitar Just this last couple months. Been a fan of both of you two. At the gates back in 2005 freshman year highschool changed my whole perspective on music.
This is great! A lot of us get to a certain point in our playing where ego stops you from reaching out to other players or teachers. I try to remind myself about Randy Rhoads and how he would seek out guitar teachers when he was on the road. Always learning is the key. This was a great reminder in humility.
Ola!!!!! Your best show ever. I hope you plan to pursue more programming like this. The human side of guitar playing and human interaction . The music is within us all. We just need the tools to create and express it. You made the connection. Thank you!😊
I stopped regular guitar lessons about a almost a year ago as I couldn't afford it and tried to carry on by teaching myself with online stuff. When Ola advertised one of Jon's courses on his patreon I thought I'd give it ago and I found it super helpful for having structured learning and practice again. Thanks Jon
So great to see Jon Björk here! Great advices, he's awesome. Also, it's very inspiring to see Ola learning and seeking improvement, even already being a great player
I admit, Ola inspired me to take some lessons awhile back, I been playing 30 years but you can always get a new perspective and sharpen the axe a bit so thank you for teaching me a little humility
Definitely checking out his RUclips channel. Thanks again Ola. You just keep coming through man. You must take some time and reward your self and your family. Plan an adventure and you and your lady friend eliose is it ? Just go for it. Hire some dude named Jack to run things while you guys are away. Take care of yourself. Remember, us fans want you to stick around and keep be you man. Amazing. But ya gotta step aside once in a while and clear the mind. 🍻
Dude Thank you Ola and double Thank you to Jon! I have too many words for this video but it all boils down to thank you, thank you, and thank you both for such a great video. This was just the lesson I needed. Cheers, Chugs, and Rock on🤘🤘
1. Great video, thanks Ola! 2. Never heard of this dude before, but damn, that dude is super clean. 3. His exercises today reminded me of what most classical musicians know from their “hanon” books (piano hanon, flute hanon…there’s a guitar hanon out there) 4. I saw a vid with Devin Townsend and that opera vocal teacher chick that does reaction videos, and she said something very profound: You have to approach your instrument the way you approach your marriage (or anything in life you care about) and set aside time daily for that thing. Tending it the way you would a garden. So Ola, if you are burnt out at the end of the day, DONT practice at the end of the day, make practice part of your morning routine, THEN do your work, then go home and play video games knowing you gave your playing the attention it deserves. Shit, shower, shave, breakfast, coffee, practice, exercise, THEN work. If there’s no time for video games at end of day, at least you did the shit that matters. Youre the boss of your own company bro, pretty sure you can make your own schedule:)
Love the garden analogy, playing an instrument is definitely something that needs to be nurtured and maintained in that way. And when you pay it the right attention it blooms.
I wish I can do the same with Ola but I get to ask questions about developing songwriting techniques and how to sound like a master Chugger like him. Love this video, very inspiring.
Ola you da man! What a great idea for a video, I‘m guessing it‘s the truth for many of us guitar players out there. So I hope the video will pick up some traction and help as many tired mfckrs as possible to get back into playing. Cheers!💪🏼
Many good tips, I’ll start bring my 🎸 in car and practice when have a break at side of road. At office my guitar always beside, so easy get some 5 min in between 🤘🤘
I keep 3 x 5 paper cards near my guitar and keep three items on each card that I want to work on. I keep any card on the top of the pile for a week and use them to hyper focus for a few minutes each day. And a metronome...
Very helpful for me. Thank you. Every year I get stuck somehow on my playing. I need a kick in the ass to get me motivated again. This is a good start.
I love learning by ear!! with all my cover tracks on my channel are learned by ear, I actually learned the song just minutes before I start recording lol
My Two Cents: Cracking The Code and Mike Mangini Rhythm Knowledge II make wonders in a short matter of time. Scientifically proved. Like Jon said, counting is very important. Cheers
I play riffs between loading screens and while waiting on the world boss spawns when I play Diablo 4...it is definitely improving my guitar playing and time management.
One thing you can do is watch short guitar video lessons and playlist them for later but try to memorize the important parts so that when you sit down to play you can maximize your practice time.
You should start a new series called "learning some technique" 😅 or something, but the point is you gonna practice and continue bringing content to us.
So if you're counting 8 and playing 6 notes, it's just math 24/8=3 & 24/6=4. You would do the 8 count 3 times and play the 6 note sequence 4 times each time the 1 would land on a different note within the 6 note sequence starting on the 1st note, then the 3rd, then the 5th, and back to the 1 the starting the sequence over again.
Ola... My son (10 years old/mega shredder) and I are huge fans. Interested in getting him a solid metal guitar 1500usd or less. He's playing anything metal from Metallica to Judas priest. Looking for some thick heavy hitting tones.. What Solar guitar should I be looking at?? Thanks Ola!
Thank god! Finally a youtube channel, that is NOT "The new delay pedal by XY (which literally is just a pedal that records you and plays it back. Wow!)" or "Easy blues lick for beginners" or "5 easy hacks to make you shred like XY"... I just can't stand this anymore! Even if I use the search bar in youtube and EXCACTLY search for certain stuff, this is, what comes out. Terrible! All the video titles on this channel catch me! And they are not just 1 - 2 minute videos. I will check some of them out later, when I'm home from work. Thank you, Ola! You might have rescued my belief in youtube.
I find to pick up the guitar and play or practice you really have to be in the zone and right head space or it just don’t feel good . Things have to be going right in your life . For me I moved houses to a different city and since doing so I’ve had so many distractions it’s ridiculous.
Regarding ear training - I'm profoundly deaf and it's hard for me to pick out the subtle things normal hearing folk could. Sadly, I'm reliant on tab/tutorials especially for more complex songs. Is there a way to speed up learning songs with this hurdle in the way?
It takes a certain amount of humility to put yourself out there like this and show people that you can always learn more or be better. Thanks for the video Ola!
Smart
Dude….Jon plays SQUEAKY CLEAN 🧼
I cannot say enough how important minimizing the amount of excess movement and pressure is, which Jon touches on very well. How hard do you need to fret? Just hard enough. How hard do you need to pick/pluck? Just hard enough. Any more is just a waste of energy and time, and will slow you down. Great video.
Took private lessons with Jon for about a year. Such a huge impact on my technique. I still thank him to this day. Thanks Jon!!
No matter how good you are on guitar, teaching it is a whole different skill!
Such a wonderful thing of you Ola honoring your former Guitar instructor! So awesome.
First, Ola thanks for introducing many of us to Jon. I am doing his video exchange students and he has given me so much to work on. He gave me that first exercise he is showing here and it did a MASSIVE amount for my timing.
Jon's channel is really great for tips & perspectives. Very refreshing to watch.
I practice first thing in the morning, then I start my day, without practice I question my whole existence. When people say I don’t have time, get up an hour earlier and make that hour time to practice. Awesome to see Jon on hear I’ve learned so much from him, excellent teacher and musician. Respect
Aha so its 3:20 for me then! Nice to know bro.

Long time Jon Bjork patreon, I have learnt so much! Fantastic teacher!

Jon is a true master on this instrument
I literally just asked for more guitar playing and less gear, and Ola goes and just does this.
Ola legendary guitarerer ❤
Always great to see Jon here!
👏
So great to see Jon Björk here! Great advices, he's awesome. Also, it's very inspiring to see Ola learning and seeking improvement, even already being a great player

John is amazing... I got familiar with him from your first interview with him and since then he has been a huge help for my picking.
Super lovely guy
I admit, Ola inspired me to take some lessons awhile back, I been playing 30 years but you can always get a new perspective and sharpen the axe a bit so thank you for teaching me a little humility
This is fantastic! Ola, you should make this a regular thing!!
Jon is one of my favorite online teachers on youtube

Great lesson! I’m one whom has very little time. Thanks, Ola and Jon!
Jon is such a master of instruction
How great of a feeling would it be to gift your guitar teacher a nice guitar of the brand you own!
Outstanding lesson! I needed this! Thank you Ola and thank you Jon!
Great video! Jon is such a great teacher. Thanks Ola!
You can never stop learning. That's why guitar/music is great.
What a couple, amazing guitar players. Thanks OLA!
Dude Thank you Ola and double Thank you to Jon! I have too many words for this video but it all boils down to thank you, thank you, and thank you both for such a great video. This was just the lesson I needed. Cheers, Chugs, and Rock on🤘🤘

Jon is awesome! Such a great player and teacher! 🤘🤘🤘
Awesome tips! That Black Solar Guitar he was playing was AWESOME! I'm a Flying V guy, but I would love to get that one 🤟
I wish I can do the same with Ola but I get to ask questions about developing songwriting techniques and how to sound like a master Chugger like him. Love this video, very inspiring.
woooo best crossover ever!! jon bjork, I love you!!
It's always great to see Jon!

Very intelligent teacher you have here Ola.
Been using Jon’s lessons and practice material! Lots of great stuff!
Very helpful for me. Thank you. Every year I get stuck somehow on my playing. I need a kick in the ass to get me motivated again. This is a good start.
Jon is the best!! ❤
Jon has a lot of influences to me🎸👍
Haven't got the time just now 😜 but this looks to be very informative indeed!!! Thanks Jon & Ola! 🤘😎
Just wanted to say your guitar teachers solo made me tear up , beautiful!
Its good to see someone from Bjork’s family..
Thank you for the great episode.
Been following Jon on Insta and YT for a while. Killer player, that Kiesel solo contest solo is crazy
Grand video, thanks for sharing! love it! 🤘
Enhorabuena Ola.
Gran vídeo.🤟🤟🤟
Great tips! Thanks Jon!
i absolutely love that guitar holy
Got the Modal Alternate Picking.
...how unusual it feels to see an absolute stalwart of extreme music taking a back seat somewhat.
Everyday is a new opportunity to learn. 🤘
The man, the myth, the Legend!
I love learning by ear!! with all my cover tracks on my channel are learned by ear, I actually learned the song just minutes before I start recording lol

Excellent video 👍

Man this is inspiring, thank you Jon and Ola
Great Podcast!
Great lesson!
😂 You could see the cogs ⚙️ in Ola’s head about to explode.🤯 😂
This Is awesome!🤘
Hei Ola! Great video!
That red Solar guitar is hands down one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen. Please restock it so that I can buy it :)
You could also play my 5 minute picking and legato warmups!
When you get back from taking a piss is a great time to sneak in a little practice.
What I learned from this lesson: HAVE A PLAN!
So if you're counting 8 and playing 6 notes, it's just math 24/8=3 & 24/6=4. You would do the 8 count 3 times and play the 6 note sequence 4 times each time the 1 would land on a different note within the 6 note sequence starting on the 1st note, then the 3rd, then the 5th, and back to the 1 the starting the sequence over again.
those Solar guitars look so damn nice
Free wisdom, yay ❤❤❤❤
More masterclass please!!!!
⭐SHOW LESSON ⭐BJORK⭐OLA ENGLUND⚡⚡⚡⚡COOL⚔️
You found a new segment : Ola learning shit ! Great video, thanks a lot.
Wow, that exercise is tougher than you would think.
I wish I could bring a guitar into work, but I have this feeling it wouldn't go over well...
Jon is slick
Ola... My son (10 years old/mega shredder) and I are huge fans. Interested in getting him a solid metal guitar 1500usd or less. He's playing anything metal from Metallica to Judas priest. Looking for some thick heavy hitting tones.. What Solar guitar should I be looking at?? Thanks Ola!
All I have is time but nothing to do lmao. I'm gonna start practicing more.

By the way... I forgot to say... I meant Jon Björk's channel. :-DDD I'm obviously subscribed to you, Ola, since several years. ;)
I really like that this, i dont have time to practice video, is 30mins long. 😂
I find to pick up the guitar and play or practice you really have to be in the zone and right head space or it just don’t feel good . Things have to be going right in your life . For me I moved houses to a different city and since doing so I’ve had so many distractions it’s ridiculous.
Awsome

What Solar model is John playing? Thats my favorite one.
hey, did you try to work with a delay (set to 4th, 8th whatever) instead of a metronome? it's actually very fun and inspiring.
Sweet
Regarding ear training - I'm profoundly deaf and it's hard for me to pick out the subtle things normal hearing folk could. Sadly, I'm reliant on tab/tutorials especially for more complex songs. Is there a way to speed up learning songs with this hurdle in the way?
I carve out an hour for my guitar everyday 🤘🙂
About half a good as Max Ostro in the Kiesel solo contest! 😅
