I never realized the stamina and chops needed to play this song until I learned it myself. My picking hand fell off immediately after I play through the song. Fortunately enough for me, I had my hand replaced with a power drill so I can tremolo pick at 7000 bpm forever!!! \m/
Man, I know punk is frowned upon in the metal community. But that's one genre that taught me that it's not as simple as you think. Some punk drummer have the stamina of gods to pull off full show. And funny enough, I think black metal as always fallen in this circle of genres that the rest of the metal community just underestimates. I think learning something by ear is one of the most beneficial things you can do as a musician. Nothing develops musicianship faster than transcribing a piece that you love. Sure learning to read sheet music and learning theory is super beneficial as well, but ultimately the ear is our most valuable tool as a musician.
C# Standard is my favorite tuning to play in, but barely anyone else plays in that tuning, so it always makes me happy when I see big content creators or bands play in C# Standard.

Which was ok for playing bar mitzvahs, but if you wanted to play anything good, you had to wear the tape out pausing and rewinding. Nice to see the traditional way still exists.

I remember learning this in college. The other guitarist for our group was a superior player on basically every metric, but couldn't play this. Turns out I had him beat on exactly one thing: sustained, high tempo tremolando. Go figure!
Please do more of these! Its really inspiring for me to see other people play stuff, since I have LOTS of songs I want to play but am never able to decide... I listen to CoB for a while now, but only a tribute cover made me actually give it a closer look since it looked like fun and it was... Since you seem to have quite a similar taste in metal as I have, I already found lots of good stuff through your channel! Keep it up! (also already said it, but the new studio looks fireeeee)
Sounds good! Only thing that might need to be corrected is that in the "coolest riff" that you mentioned with the short tremolo picked section you have to let the previous note slightly ring as you go back and forth between the two strings. At least according to my ears. Typical in black metal I think, same has to be done with Satyricon - Mother North in section where you tremolo pick back and forth between two strings the previous note is left to ring and not muted out by lifting your fretting finger.

Some info regarding the word Evangelion and i'll back you up regarding its pronunciation. It comes from the ancient Greek word "ευάγγελος" (i guess evangelos in English and is a common name here in Greece) which means the messenger of good news. It's a compound word from "εὐ", which means something good and "ἄγγελος", which means the messenger and the translation in English is angel. It is a borrowed word and really, really old, way before christianity used it. So like the word angel, the n and g sounds like a j. In Greek it is pronounced with a g.
I was there, as well. Jannus Live, formerly Jannu🎉s Landing. Btw: it’s Saint Petersburg, not Saint Pete Beach. at the other end of the Pinellas County peninsula.
tremolo picking is a lot easier with the 'correct' way of holding your pick I just started holding it 'correctly' after 20 years of playing and found that tremolo picking is a lot easier it does take some getting used to though
It's so cool to see someone, that I would genuinely consider better at guitar playing than me, learning a song I already can play. Keeps me motivated. Cool video
on the first riff, from tremolo to open C#, just do an upstroke, you're doing tremolo picking starting with a downstroke and then attempting the open C# with another down stroke, try it with an upstroke instead, will be much easier.
Hey Ola. I remember you saying Dehumanizer is your favourite Black Sabbath album. Maybe in your next video you learn a song from that album. Probably try "I" because that is a kickass song.
The speed and accuracy that you put these songs together in your mind cannot be understated. This song is such a pain to learn, had to change my entire style of playing to keep up with those trems.
I've watched a couple of your "Ola Learning Shit" videos now, love watching you work! I wish I could work out songs like that by ear, so quickly and easily. You're truly quite masterful a guitarist man. Although, with your tremolo picking, try to use your wrist more rather than tensing up and using your whole forearm. You'll find you can do fast tremolo picking for a much longer time using a loosey-goosey wrist action. 😎 PS: More Black Metal please. 🤘
Hi Ola! Awesome video, is so inspiring see an awesome guitarist learn and practice, I think it would be great if you try with some Bloodbath, what about Outnumbering the day? Is a kickass song. Hola Ola from México
Epic! I've always landed on the open C# from the tremolo with an upstroke, I feel like it's easier than stringskipping through 3 strings to get the downstroke in place for a single open chord. Don't know if it helps you, but if it does - I'm happy 😁
Ola brought us "The Haunted"! As for Behemoth, their music sounds like a tornado. The guitars are insanely fast. I remember they opened for King Diamond at the Masquerade w/ Black Dahlia and Nile when I first saw them. What a lineup for Atlanta, right. Odd that I don't hear many people comment on Behemoth's drummer, because he is insanely fast. You should also do some Dimmu Borgir, like playing Blessings Upon the Throne of Tyranny.
