Well, I guess you just start with the 2 strings and set a goal of speed (or bpm if you're using a metronome) and then increase speed when you feel confortable with that. After that goal was reached move on to the next (3 strings) and so on
This is by far the best and most helpful breakdown of how to approach sweep picking. This has definitely helped me a lot, now I just have to go and practice it and learn how to make it musical! Thanks man!! Keep on shredding!!
Thank you!!! I really swept in 5 minutes. At the beginning I was overwhelmed but your video saved me after years this technique gave me more enthusiasm to play guitar
I'm learning this style at the moment but the key technique that this guy can do in his sleep but he didn't teach is the critical push through withThe pick motion and mute each note before you strike the next ! Great player btw.
thanks Straten , I had some doubt about picking up sweep picking in 5-min. but as I watched ,I was able to play along with you and did complete the entire 1st sweep picking pattern you played , in fact, I had my guitar on and started playing right as you did, before I knew it, I was making up a gang of different patterns from watching your 1st pattern , you can take that type or pattern use all over the neck, as long as it sounds good who cares where the notes are as long as it sounds bad ass , its bad ass, your ears will tell you that, if it sounds like hell then it sounds like hell, but if it sounds cool and you like the way it sounds then it must sound cool make sense anyone?? let your ears do the work for you, one thing I discovered, sometimes looking at the neck and frets fucks me up, more so than if I play with my eyes closed ,and just listen to what im playing you,ll soon realize and gain a better feeling of how the notes sort of come together as you develop your feel for the neck along with each note and where it feels and sounds cool, you,ll be playing all kinds of cool stuff sooner than you may think by using this sort of technique , playing with my eyes closed works for me, that's all im saying it helped me progress in every aspect of guitar playing, my speed, patterns, how I want the note to sound, you,d be surprised by how good you,ll become by using your ears as a helpful tool in that it helps you or at least it helped me to become a lot better all the way around , that's all im saying , but then ive always loved playing guitar ,im always practicing ,now that is a must do, you,ll never get good if you don't practice , you HAVE TO PRACTICE if you want to become a good guitar player ,like anything else in life you have to work at it, your only going to get out of it , what you put into it, bottom line, theres no such thing as a short cut with playing the guitar, its either in you , or its not ,its just that simple ,
Hey, Bro..Thanks For that Tip...I'm an Old Dog that has had to Incorporate Sweeping into my 80's George Lynch and Warren DeMartini style of Lead Playing, That's my Roots. 34 years of Playing....
I can't believe this was straten marshall, i watched this video for more than a year ago, then saw this melodic shreddist guy on instagram, subscribed to his channel then suddenly just found out that it was him today when i searched his channel again😂 what a coincidence
thank you it really helped ( im fed up to write this comment under every video i watched about sweep picking but i hope one day i write wtih a real meaning )
Hey bud can you please explain which part of your right hand you use to mute/collect the strings you have just passed when sweeping down? is it the thumb? or the palm? or something else? cheers!
You're not explaining the trick to playing it fast. That last note on the e string is picked with rotational picking. The hand rotates like doing spirit fingers. 👋 You have to escape from the strings in a split second. The first part of sweeping is straight down and up. The hard part is building that string escape movement. It's all door knocking movements, and leg scratching movements, and spirit fingers. 👋
I wished you would've elaborated on the sweep going back up, not just down. Can you do a part two to this and really break it down as well as slow it down for us to really see this please? Thanks for this lesson by the way. This was great!
Hi Stratton I’m having a hard time writing a solo for 3 songs approximate solos 25 sec. Can you or someone come up with a cool solo not to crazy. Whatever it costs. I’ll explain why later why I can’t. Thank you Mike
You'll need to work on it some everyday. You'll suck at it at first but then you'll start to pick it up plus it not a skill you can just learn and then forget about. It's something you have to put in your practice routine. Palm and picking thumb muting are necessary to play cleanly.
will it necessarily be harder for me if my pinky don't work right lol, I been playing for 10+yrs without using my pinky, and i think its time i start using it
I love how mid intermediate - advanced players put a beautiful vibrato upon a single string when they are teachin, i am one of those and its an awesome habit.
Hi thanks for the lesson Very helpful... I'm a little confused; you played 16th fret on the high E string which is a G# I thought you would need a G natural (15th fret) in an E minor arpeggio since G natural is what makes an E minor minor rather than Major You played a G natural on the 4th string one octave lower, do those notes not clash?
This actually worked. I’m not fast at it but I’ve been making a little bit of progress for the past 25-30 minutes after watching this video.
Same. Great teacher. Never thought I’d ever learn this lol
You’ve got me sold-gonna try it!
Finally a lesson that goes straight to the point without mixing a lot of unnecessary nonsense and showing off. Thanks brother!
You left out the part about the hours of practice. ;)
Well, I guess you just start with the 2 strings and set a goal of speed (or bpm if you're using a metronome) and then increase speed when you feel confortable with that. After that goal was reached move on to the next (3 strings) and so on
That's the guitar, unfortunately or enjoying the journey - it takes hours of practice everyday to be good at it.
Videos around 5 min?
YOU MEAN "months " OF PRACTICE
or even years)))
These tips would have served me well, back in the 70's & 80's
5 minutes? i will practice only 10 minutes then.... i don't wanna make Yngwie Malmsteen jelous.
Nice. 😂😂👍

You commented 3 years ago. How’d it go?
That intro was fucking amazing to say the least.
This is by far the best and most helpful breakdown of how to approach sweep picking. This has definitely helped me a lot, now I just have to go and practice it and learn how to make it musical! Thanks man!! Keep on shredding!!
i don’t often take these tutorials seriously because more often than not it’s just some guy flexing but this one genuinely helped, bravo 🙌
You are the one that makes wanna dive into shredding because you do it the best smoothest way possible. Hope to play like you one day.
By far the best video so simple to learn sweep picking and Arpeggios
I really like your technique man. Real smoooth
Thank you!!! I really swept in 5 minutes. At the beginning I was overwhelmed but your video saved me after years this technique gave me more enthusiasm to play guitar
that first tech breakdown just opened it up man thank you.
Another thing to note is your guitar, a very good set up guitar will make it much easier to play.
Lord. Your technique is AMAZING. It's almost scary. Same feeling I get when I watch people like Wes Hauch, Rick Graham, and Nick Johnston...
not really

Nice licks, Two string sweeps, reminds me of the Dont tell me you love solo
Hmm.. it's interesting that you up pick the last note of the arpegggio, I usually just hammer on
What a great tutorial..NOW I KNOW HOW TO SWEEP! Takes me more than 5 minutes , but that still the most accurate video out there
That's a very nice tone man. Can you do a video tour of your rig. Thanks
Thanks great sweep lessons bro!
I will have to practice more than 5 mins
Btw: cool lick at 5:05 Pls give tab on this

Instructions unclear. I died.
OMG.....That is a beautiful guitar!!
Lovely tone on your set up man.

Best teacher ever 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
it's the speed that fucks me up lol, I practice and practice, but I can't seem to get any faster. I can see you're a definite fan of Malmsteen, cool.
my fretting hand just won't go that fast.

Beautiful guitar
Very helpful to know the way the pick goes .the rest is exercise and imagination
Man this guy is good and nice vibrato!
Finally a lesson that doesn't ask me to grow a larger hand.
i have been trying to sweep for years. i just could never get it, but I'm gonna try again.
I like this skill sharing

Beautiful strat.
Can you teach us ending free style shred lead plz?

what if i have to bar the bottom two strings and it sounds too nosiy. Will i have to palm mute it ?

@@trevorcarl9515 thanks trevor. I'll check it out.
So, I am assuming with practice the rhythm of it will come right?
@Straten M. ...very useful Vid! Congrats! ...but don't forget the "p" in ArPeggios?!!!

I think I suck even more at sweeps now. Lol is there an easier way to learn?
It's so effective thanks again !
How much time/ practice does it take to build up speed? Also is a metronome necessary?
Thank for sharing Straten Marshall
Thanks a lot that really helped.
Nice demonstration and easy pattern that we or I can understand :)
my strings a little bit higher than normal. İs that obstruct for sweep ??
Thanks, my nemesis, alternate and sweep picking. 👍🏼🤪

THANK YOU MAN!!!! I CAN FINALLY SWEEP!!!!
Please tell me what where are your amp settings and pedals to have such a sweet tone?
lol i was skeptical to learn something from title sweep picking in 5 min from video like that... but it was actually useful.

Toca muito professor.

Excellent!
What different between arpeggio and sweep picking?
this guy's epic.
Please guy, which the pickup you use in this guitar?
Thank for your lesson bro!!
You use String no.11???
Any chance of showing us that intro piece?
Thank you!
Hi thanks for the lesson

Bruh if it sounds good just play it it's not that deep 😩
