How to Paint Your Engine Cover

- We are going over the steps to paint an engine cover for a 2020 Mustang GT. The cover in this video is a custom made cover, however this process is universal and can be used on an OEM cover. The paint and primer used is an Engine Enamel which resists temperatures up to 500°F; overkill for an engine cover.
Note:
Enamel paints have a recoat window. A recoat window means you only have an allowable time frame in which you can apply each coat of paint. After this time frame, Enamel must fully cure which usually take about one week. The surface must then be scuffed before another coat is applied. Dupli-Color Enamels have a 1 hour recoat window.

Great job!! That cover is a lot nicer than my 2019 GT cover. The '19 is hideous.
Thank you very much. A few people asked about making a carbon fiber cover. How do you think that would look? Maybe blue weaved carbon fiber.
@@mcgurrentertainment Blue Carbon fiber (if its real) is one of the most beautiful materials for cars. If you have the skills and means...DO IT!
Thank you for the feedback. I might have to give it a go
Looks awesome.
Thank you very much 😊
Great tutorial. It's looks amazing
Thank you!!
Awesome stuff. Looking forward to seeing if you can get a good mix for Kona 👀
Thank you!!! I have a few good ideas in mind 😉
Our painted in my plastic trim I have let it dried for 48 hours after my three coats.. The paint I bought did not have high enough gloss, I have purchased a high gloss and some 2000 grid sandpaper..
My question is: before I apply The clear coat, I wet sand correct? After I wet sand, I wipe clean with alcohol and then add the clear coat? Am I correct?
It's not a requirement. However It's typically a good idea to scuff the surface (of a fully cured product) before applying fresh coats. This gives the paint or clear a surface to adhere to.
Looks great
Thank you very much
Simply put...AMAZING, great job and love both custom engine covers! By the way, can you tell me where I can find the strut tower covers on both 5.0s? I noticed you have a different set than on the Kona blue one. Thank you!
Thank you very much. That's a great question, we ordered them from www.custompony1.com/
He does lots of custom work, and the product always comes out looking great.
@@mcgurrentertainment Awesome, thank you!
Anytime 😊
