Not really, since this version looks like it would’ve still had the same type of gameplay as the final version (consumable attacks, the Paperize mechanic, no EXP, etc.)
Sticker Star could’ve been a lot better if it were something like that. That King Mole seemed like a cool boss. Also I’m that pretty sure that creepy fish is a fishbone from Super Mario World.
I know you already made a video on the topic I will be discussing, but here’s what Color Splash and Origami King could’ve been if Sticker Star was good: Color Splash: -More New Partners -Different Battle System that isn’t pain. -Level up System -The Toads of Port Prisma being replaced by a new race relating to color. -Each Chapter World with the exception of the last one has their own race. -Bowser and the Koopalings are now characters who help Mario defeat the true villains. -Yes, this game would’ve have new villains with new designs. -Each chapter would’ve had their own subplots. Origami King: -Give Level Up System to make Battle System more engaging. -More Partners with Most of them having unique designs (not Bobby though). -This isn’t much of a problem but maybe there could’ve been more worlds with streamers in them, 4 specifically, like an orange streamer and pink streamer with art supplies such as glue and eraser as bosses. -Speaking of Art supplies, the Legion of Stationery would’ve had unique designs that still keep their personalities and battle mechanics intact, like Hole Punch being this large greenish yellow scorpion who wears disco related accessories and has hole punchers replacing the hands and tail. -Each Legion member would actually do more outside of their final dungeon. -Give King Olly a phase where his hands grow into giant versions of Mario’s 1000 fold arms and a phase where uses the art supply weapons to his advantage. -Each chapter would’ve had their own subplot. -More unique character designs. That’s all I have to say.
Think they can make a full stick Star remake for the Switch 2 with these functions - Battle mode of 64 & TTYD - Partners - Use stickers for battle instead of badges - paperize function - No real life objects - Keep the picture look like this - No pealing off stickers in the background. Uhh that's about it. They make it like gameplay of 64 or TTYD sticker star could redeem itself a well decent game.
It's criminal how nobody is talking about the music, I think it's LEAGUES better than the theme we actually got. There's more energy and whimsicality in it, it sounds like something from Paper Mario 64 or Banjo Kazooie
Well, with the Thousand Year Door remake being a sign of the Paper Mario games going back to their original roots, maybe concepts from this build of Sticker Star will get reused in a future game one day.
Don't forget they added the first Paper Mario game to the Nintendo Switch Online library. (If you paid for the expansion that is) and also several months ago they sent out surveys asking people how they want Paper Mario or Mario RPGs in general if they want it like it is now or like the ones from the good old days. So maybe there is hope of the old style Paper Mario games. Also, on that note, Mario RPGs did make a comeback with finally a brand new Mario and Luigi game! (Also a remake of Super Mario RPG) As much hope as I have for any new Paper Mario games like the first two, I'm not holding my breath on it just yet.🤣
@@FloatzelMan Mario and Luigi: Brothership is actually on my Christmas wish list for this year, although I didn't get the Switch remake of Super Mario RPG, because I already have a copy of the original, but I won't deny, the remake looks really good.

I honestly think if we got this version it would still be considered “mid” by fans of the series just because of what weve seen based on the trailer. It definitely is better than what we got, but not exactly amazing.
Miyamoto said that he didn't want new characters that weren't already existing Mario characters. The director of Paper Mario took that and told his team no more creative, new, characters.
If there is a trailer of a beta version, so maybe there is an actual beta that you can play. It will be amazing if someone found the beta game but I think it is nearly impossible
I can at least appreciate the vision some of those games have. In Paper Mario's case you know they were doing the best they could with what Nintendo/Miyamoto told them to do. For Pokémon it's easy to tell they had big ambitions but ultimately got rushed likely to fill that "before the holidays" quota.
Why is Nintendo so stupid for thinking: maybe the fans are sick of the two paper mario games we so uuhh so lets copy and paste new super mario bros assets in here cuz everyone loves new super Mario Bros duuuhhh there we got something entirely new and creative people are gonna love it! :people hated it
In fact, Shigeru hated how some elements of the universe and some characters were treated in these games (especially Bowser in Paper Mario 2 who was just a big joke and I can understand: I prefer much more the Bowser in Sticker Star who is more epic than this useless dumbass). He imposed some directives for Sticker star but many problems in the game are mostly due to Intelligent system.
Did Sticker Star really put NSMB’s Assets? Also you should blame Tannabe considering he’s in charge of the recent 3 Games. (Also don’t just say “Nintendo” cuz that basically you saying your blaming everyone at Nintendo)

The main gripe I have with the newer PM games is that Nintendo focuses to hard on centering all development around the “paper’ aesthetic when that was always just a world building device and little to no time around the rpg mechanics in terms of both story and gameplay.
Yeah there was always 4th wall breaking stuff. koops saying "we thought your game was over!" To his dad for instance but the way they address the whole paper thing in later games feels really tact on and forced. There's a reason nobody says the word "Lego" in the Lego movie. It's surprisingly immersion breaking.
Okay, I can kinda see why Miyamoto complained about this just looking too similar to TTYD. The trees even look like they have PM64 textures. It actually looks really pretty imo
Gosh Sticker Star could of been a much better & more fondly remembered game had they kept these idea's from this beta trailer. Annoying creative mandates by who ever enforced it at Nintendo. Because apparently It wasn't just Miyamoto or Tanabe the replacement director for this series after the previous one who did the original trilogy of games left to work on Fire Emblem I think.
It's a beta. I imagine they hadn't implemented all the designs they wanted to at that point. (The chomp would likely have a different look to differentiate from normal enemies) but Miyamoto saw king mole and just shouted "oh no you don't!"
Doesnt look that different compared to original Things that missed are partners, level ups. Things we wont miss are thing stickers, they are good as rare (& expensive) special attacks
I think what kills it for me is that the game wants you to use these fancy stickers to make combat go by quicker and more efficiently (even kersti points out you use too many at times which is basically telling you to use the stronger ones) But then the game also wants you to save those stickers for puzzles or are just flat out required for boss fights so you're discouraged from using them unless you know you NEED them or else you'll have to backtrack to buy a replacement because you wasted it earlier. Then there's the stupid inventory management of the bloody things making you question what stickers you'll actually need but without a guide or prior knowledge, you wouldn't know since the game prevents you from planning ahead/future proofing. The whole thing is so counter intuitive.
Honestly it still would have been bad cause stickers were in this version too, nothing is wrong with the FP for special skills thats standard for JRPG's so why try to change it for something objectively worse. The sticker system is like if in Final Fantasy instead of MP for Magic and Skills you could only use items to attack and you are very limited on how many items you can hold.
Tbh I don’t think this version would’ve been that much better than the final version since its gameplay looks almost the exact same (consumable attacks and no EXP) except with partners. The story likely would’ve been a bit better, but seeing as how King Mole (I assume that’s what his name is) was pretty much the only original character in that trailer, I doubt there would’ve been that many more original characters in the game.
After, it depends how the gameplay would have been compaired to the final product: Mario & Luigi 5 had a lame story and forced mini games but the gameplay was very good.
I don't hate Paper Mario Sticker Stars I like it because it was my first Paper Mario game I've ever played, but yes if it would looks like that lost trailer it would be a lot better game it's sad what happened to this lost ideas for Sticker Stars and can't believe this game's 11 years old because it turned into 10 years old last year I feel old Nintendo 3DS gamer now... 😢😅
@ocreyy Or heck even watched footage. These environments are organic and look like a natural evolution of the visual style from 64 & TTYD. Final Sticker Star abandons this in order to go for a look that takes the paper aspect more literally.
I don't think it's too much of a difference, besides having a chain chomp partner (or sticker) whatever it is & a different set of bosses that probably still lead to the non talking paper bowser fight. I would still like to play this version if given the chance, but overall it still looks like it has dull gameplay...
