I don't think the flat versions of the vellementals should be that main bosses, but the form they take on after the boss battles. It is implied that the vellementals became aggressive due to being folded into origami, so it makes sense for them to be origami during the battle, and flat afterwards
Yeah after Mario defeats them they unfold and they thank Mario, they could say something like “Thank you Brave hero, you have saved me from my folded curse” and then instead of Olivia folding into them, Mario could summon them to help him in both the overworld and in battle.
Yes! Not to mention if these were the designs for them when their evil it would be taking away from the games main theme of ORIGAMI. Or at least in my opinion. -L

That’s my new headcanon ngl. Like Ollie folded them into “more fearsome & refined forms” and as soon as you beat them & restore them they thank you for bringing them back to their true selves. Though… Maybe at least one of them gripes a second that they did think the folded form was cooler before being thankful for not listening to Ollie’s “bad vibes” any more
They're designs in the actual game makes way more sense considering how the boss fight works. Also how can you be playing a game where you fight Origami enemies and no Origami Bosses
@@fungusghoul I agree but for the legion of stationary, there is a reason they'r not like the classic Paper Mario character style, they could be folded character fused with art and craft supplies tho

Yeah, the entire point of the Legion of Stationary are supposed to be sentient stationary items, no faces or them being actual paper (talking bout all of them)
One thing most people missed is what Harry said before he redesigned Vellumentals He mentioned that they were folded into an origami form. This fact shows that they very much could have Harry's designs and still work practically perfect in the game, only taking that form when you beat them
As a huge fan of Origami King, Harry Gold’s redesigns of the cast cause steam to gush out of my ears like a cartoon character. By themselves they’re neat OCs, but they don’t fit the characters. For example, Hole Punch is vampiric in game, but it’s only a small detail, the main part of his character being that he’s into disco. Harry’s redesign being a vampiric piranha plant only trlls you he’s a vampire. It’s like he asked “how can I turn a hole punch into a creature” when he should be asking “how can I turn Hole Punch into a creature”. This applies to the rest of the legionaries too except for Scissors, but even then they look like they should’ve appeared in Shogun Studios instead of Shangri Spa. The manga redesigns are great since they display the personalities of the characters without removing the charm their game counterparts had. Would I want the manga redesigns to REPLACE the game designs? No, but the redesigns aren’t bad.
My only problem is that they don’t introduce as many original NPC characters as the older games. After Super Paper Mario, most characters were just bland variations of species in the Mario universe.
The boss battles in origami king were so cool ngl, I literally love this whole series but I was shocked how creative the gameplay was (even if it was just school supplies lol)
People say fighting school supplies is unoriginal as if a game has done it before. This is the only game I have ever even heard of where you fight living stationary with crazy personalities.
I don t think that the legion of stationary have to be redesigned. The way their boss fights are structured work because they are boring old office supplies.Without it the gimmick of the fight itself is lost and the way they are defeted is also gone
I actually LOVE the bosses because they’re stuff that has to do with paper and hurts paper like the hole punch and scissors. when I saw the scissors I was so invested I shuddered, cause I knew scissors cut paper and sure enough they cut Mario and kill him instantly. I think it was smart tbh
@@MySnugglePuppynot only did it add charm but it also made them arguably more intimidating. The way they don’t fit in with the art style of the rest of the world and instead are sentient objects gives them a sort of uncanniness to them. And given their less than favorable personalities it really does make it feel like you’re fighting a monster.
@@mdalsted they don’t, that’s just an opinion based off of the players false expectations of a game that did nit, in any way promise that every game after it would have all the same Design Strategies That’s how we get new things, we leave behind the old Theses designs are amazingly creative, but they don’t fit in the actual game itself, I like that the bosses are all blunt art objects It sells the point of how strangly bland, restrictive lifeless and dangerous the origami thing is
@Sleepy_Muse While I understand and even somewhat agree with your point, I do think the execution is somewhat lacking. While I respect Origami King’s willingness to forego tradition and try something new, that entire argument falls somewhat flat when the series has become somewhat infamous for refusing to forego many Mario traditions for the last few entries, having the world populated almost exclusively by Toads and generic Mario enemies. While the bosses being generic art tools could very well fit a theme of “lifelessness,” I don’t know if they really fit the actual game. Like, is Nintendo trying to say that Origami as an art form is dull? Because that is a... Very weird take. I dunno. I think the idea was there, but the execution was lacking. I think there is a compromise to be found, like those manga panels at the start of the video showing off altered but not overhauled boss designs.
Idk if this is a hot take, but i think this goes against the game's design The fact that they turned scissors into someone that looks like a shy guy whit scissors ruins the fact that in the story scissors cut up Bowser troops, rubber band is a stage performer but now he looks too... Bumbly? There is a reason why the designs are the way they are, just because this game isnt ttwd doesnt mean that the designs are bad, and making them more "uniche" ironicaly makes them worse in the story for me
Eh...not a fan of most of them. The Vellumentals loose their oomph, but they'd make for good unfolded form but the Legion of Stationery? Their whole point is that their SENTIMENT OFFICE SUPPLIES. This just makes them redundant.
I like how they changed up the bosses, it's unique, it flows really well in the story, and it's cool seeing these common items become these sentient, giant, powerful monsters, they dont have to be human like to be good, and when nintendo makes the elementals ACTUALLY ORIGAMI (to go with... the entire plot of the story) and UNIQUE by not copying other designs of their already made enemies, people are mad, but when nintendo is unoriginal and just put bowser jr or the koopalings in game, people are STILL mad
My only problem with the Legion of Stationary designs is that they don’t fit the characters in the slightest. The only one who gets even slightly close is the scissors one, the rest don’t fit the characters at all.for example, Imagine any of the lines that Tape says and imagine them in the genie like design he has here. Im not saying these designs are bad, I’m a big fan of Harry Gold they just don’t work for the visions of the bosses themselves
I personally always imagined the Legion of Stationary having more humanoid designs as opposed to Mario enemy designs. Colored pencils would be this French Napoleon general with a Waluigi mustache and a pencil saber with the colored pencils being different colored medal on his chest. Rubber Band would be like a mixer of Prince Charming from Shrek and Commander Blue from OG Dragon Ball. Hole Punch would be this 70s blaxploitation disco parody with big star shaped sunglasses and would have the 1,000 Fold Arms, but with hole punchers at the end of them. Tape as this rotund mobster with purple overalls, a large blonde pompadour, spiked brass knuckles for the blade of the tape holder and riding an old 50s style car or motorcycle. Scissors would be this heavy armored samurai with a green oni mask and dual wielding the two scissor blades separately before combining them into an actual pair of scissors. And Stapler would be this giant black pit bull or bull dog with staples in place of his actual canines.
I like your ideas, but I got one tiny problem with your rubber band idea: ain’t she female? You can hear her sing when she reveals herself. You can probably say there’s hidden singers but Rubber Band’s too egocentric to have people sing for her.
@@GreenMaskPicturesI never really considered Rubber Band female, probably because they don’t have any actual character design, but I can see that being a possibility. If so, maybe make her like an extreme Barbie doll with long yellow bands for hair, blue bands making up a giant ball gown, and a fan made of rubber bands.
@@slashtheporcupine6746Good Idea. I also have my own ideas for redesigning the Legion of Stationery. I already made a vid showcasing all my designs but I’ll say two of them here. Colored Pencils would be a mix of a military general (represented by his military uniform and tank that looks similar to a colored pencils box that shoots out the pencils from inside) and a French artist (represented by his apron with drawings on it and French mustache). He would have pencil wood for skin, teeth and eyes that are the same color of his pencils, and a head that ends with a red pencil tip. Scissors…well I actually have a different eye for them in game if they were still art supplies. Maybe both the blades could be separated and siblings (the right blade being the older prideful swordsman brother from the English version while the left blade being the younger deranged psycho sister from the Japanese version) who combine for the ultimate attack. They both have scissor blades for legs and each use a scissor blade as a sword. The brother being a samurai who wears a metal Chinese hat with spikes, slightly torn bandana, green Japanese robe, and a green cape. The sister being this mix of a typical Japanese maid and some aesthetics from the origami craftsman but torn. She’s got a bow on her hair that looks like the scissor holders, some patches on her dress, and a pattern of cutout soldiers on her lower half. The others you can see on the vid I made.
Origami king is peak fiction, and it just had its 4th frickin anniversary last week ( though I still wish Nintendo could recognize TOK and celebrate it). It’s a very underrated lil game so it’s quite rare to see pmtok content and video essays, so thx for making this vid!
Unpopular opinion, probably. But the legion of stationary being literal stationary: that's the whole frickin point! It would be hypocritical for the bosses to be these flat paper characters when the point of their goal is to turn everyone's 2d figures 3d, like origami. Having them be origami figures themselves would be very passible, though, and I do wish that they could have expanded a little more on their designs. But i still like them how they are, and i still like the designes here.
I hate the word "better" being used in this video. The entire point of the Veullumentals was that they were folded by King Olly and made aggressive, and the point of the Legion of Stationary was that Olly hates regular paper folk, so all of his generals are office supplies and not paper. These redesigns really stray from that, and personally I don't think it is "better" at all. Whether or not it is "better" is subjective, and you shouldn't state it as fact. The story and boss fights do not work if all of them are flimsy, flat, PAPERY beings. The designs are cool, don't get me wrong. But for the context of the game, they do not work.
Those paper Vellumentals are meant to be what they look like when they’re unfolded. Since they became aggressive after being folded, I think these paper forms would be great when they are unfolded and friendly.
Theoretically, if Nintendo were creative with the character designs, they could ditch the origami aspect and call it paper Mario: the legion of stationary, or something like that.
These "redesigns" dont work 1.he never kept the personilitys of the characters. John pierre (colored pencils) is a french artist who has a high ego, the redisign has a paper pencil wizard. Rubber band is a dancer/proformer who also has an ego problem an the redesign is just macho grubbu. Hole punch is a disco fanatic and thinks hes a good dancer, the redesign is a vampiric paper pirannha plant. Sciccors is o k but make it fit shangri spa and make the shy guy origami and your good (probably). Tape has a mafia personality and loves his tape holder and uses brass knuckles and has a poumpadour, the redesign is a paper tape ghost. I dont like the redesigns for more resons then this 2. The vellumentals are MEANT to be origami making them paper derails the plot, they were peaved at us because they were folded by origami, maybe they can unfold and tell olivia how to fold into th e vellumentals instead of the bibliofold but im still pretty mad about this one
@@FliplicheReplace reason 2 with this reason: Harry turned the Legion into paper beings, which contradicts King Olly’s hatred towards unfolded people (specifically toads) due to his creator (who he hates) being a paper toad. It wouldn’t make sense for Olly’s generals to be paper beings. Also here’s a third reason: Harry didn’t do Stapler.
If you want another good example of a fan work that makes The Origami King better, you should check out The Origami King Refolded mod too. That adds a ton of unique character designs to the world, greatly increases the roster of enemies to feature many other familiar faces from across the Mario universe, and changes up the gameplay to work a lot more like the older games (more varied attacks, permanent upgrades, cooking, etc). If we could get a version of that mod with the boss designs from Harry Gold's video, we'd probably have the definitive versions of TOK right there. Something with all the great world design of the regular game, and all the charm and characterisation of the Paper Mario games before Sticker Star.
The reason that the vellumentals didn’t look very evil and mean is because these were the nice and friendly vellumentals before they were turned into origami and turned evil
The issue with the redesign isnt that they dont look good (they look amazing) its just that they are taking away what makes these bosses unique. Its called the ORIGAMI KING, turning what is the namesake of the game into what look like normal every day paper mario enemies takes away how foreign 3D characters are to the paper mario universe. Constantly the folded enemies are (in the eyes of the characters) creepy and unnatural. They move as if they are zombies staggering and jerking about barely moving on their own. And the bosses are seen as these alien characters with alien abilities. Turning them into something familiar takes away from this other worldly feeling they all give off. The Origami King is not trying to replicate the style of TTYD nor is it trying to be a better TTYD. Taking away the one thing this game has that makes it different then every other Paper Mario just leaves it a pretty alright inoffensive addition to the Paper Mario Series.
I think the problem with O.K (Origami King) Battles aren't the bosses, but the common enemies, if fighting common enemies were like a classic mario RPG with level up and fighting the bosses is like the Original game, but the puzzles mechanics and all of that, it could have been great (And maybe adding some original chars and not just toads)
These look like nice alternative universe designs. I personally dont have the same issues and critisims as holding origami king back with the boss designs, those were fantastic. If anything, the battle system just needed exp points and instead of max hp hearts you could upgrade hp and attack power, with the weapons you find along the way functioning the same. Other than that, less toads, more og characters, and more story on Olly and Olivia, as well as chapter interludes where we'd see what happens at peach's castle after you break each streamer. If we had those, it woild be on ttyd level, but i love origami king for what it is, and the bosses were not something that needed to be fixed.
I agree with the points you made at the beginning of the video. Even though there were things in the game that didn't do well, like: permenent partners, normal battles against origami goons, etc. There were so many things that made the game so good, especially characters and boss battles. And even though this version of Paper Mario: The Origami King looks good, I am fine with the game just the way it is
A few days i serch up pmtok boss redesigns and found some from some pics at riddit the one i was most intersted about was the rubber bands now in the redesign rubber bands is female which in my opinión fits the boss's role a lot better anyways since rubber band was female the main form reflected that the head had a small spot where you can see the eyes of her true form the hair on top was replace with horns and haif of the body was shape around her legs which resumble a skirt and her true form is a squid with holes at the end of her tentacles and was holding on to four stilts
Wow, it just goes to show that people can remodel these bosses without completely destroying their initial personalities. I wish Harry was willing to do that instead of creating extremely unfitting designs.
For stapler boss, I had an idea where the boss would be a Chain Chomplet from Super Mario Sushine. That way it can put the staples on its back and fire them like a staple gun from its mouth. He'd had a stapler remover for a tail instead of the usual chains though.
You are a way better designer than Harry, since you actually took the original design concept for the stapler and meshed it with a unique design that doesn’t destroy the original intention. Great job! Bummer Harry can’t seem to get it right, though.
@@MySnugglePuppy Thanks but it's mostly just a thought. Since the Stapler boss was meant to be Olly's guard dog, I wanted to create a familar yet different take on the design. And since a Chain Chomplet has more of a body than chain chomps, it gives me more room to work with. Oh, as how the staples go into its mouth, I had two scenarios. 1. It chucks them from its back into its mouth and then fires at Mario 2. There's a collar on with Olly's logo that has a little slots for the staples to go through. That way it would be easy to see how many staples it has left. Which do you think sounds better?
@@cometcartoons8528 Both are great, but the collar doubling as a common collar symbolizing Stapler’s role and as a sort of ammo case where the staples are stored is more interesting to me personally.
Oof that might be tough. Tell you what. Give me some time, I might be able to do all of them. I don’t have good video equipment so I might feature it on Deviantart like my fan made partners for Paper Mario.
ok, so hear me out... maybe the redesigns for the bosses can be repurposed as mini bosses b4 you fight the actual bosses, like they are elite minions for the bosses that olly made to help the stationary.
Or better yet, make the redesigns actually fit the characters they’re replacing. Plus remove the paper outlines to give us the idea that they’re 3d characters.
How to fix the vullemental problem 1 instead of being forced to fight Mario by olly they put Mario through a trial to get there allegiance 2 once defeated instead of Olivia becoming them they shrink and join your party 3 make them grow when you fight them
Color splash is so fun imo! I personally like it more than Thousand year door, but I haven’t finished the latter, so I might have to come back to this😂
Honestly I'd say just give them googly eyes and put something on them. Like give Colored Pencils Tank wheels, Rubberbands an opera-like outfit or viking horns, Hole Punch could just be colored Black and white like the note Tape, a fedora in the first phase and then shades in his second phase, even the Stapler could simply have Googly eyes and Origami dog ears and that alone could work.
@@Mymy_64i think all of these are good, aside from Hole Punch and Scissors. Every part of the Stationery have the color of their streamer, so i think we can change Hole Punch giving her a disco-pattern on the grey part of her body, and putting some red in the blade of the Scissors to make it feel like blood, and add at his Blade-Case something... i don't know what, maybe the Hat of a Sushi chef? I don't know on that one.
I really like the Scissors reimagining, it reminds me of the Lego Movie, where real world objects with special properties in the Lego universe were called "relics".
Or better yet, you can still keep the Charater redesign's and make it so the redesigns can take on an Oragomi Form, or for story reasons, you can make them so that way after you beat them they turn back into their normal forms which are the redesign forms.
I kinda feel like the designs for the pencil case coulda been something more like a giant clam. Would have kept the basic concept still, since the case is a literal clamshell case now. Could have it so when it opened up, it operated the same way, firing out the pencil missles, but it would have given the whole thing a bit more personality yet retained the same weakness. As for the Hole puncher? Make it a giant crab. The claws could have been hole punchers that well.. put holes in you when it did its thing. And you could easily have the same weakness of it being knocked over. In regards to the game as a whole, I agree that the boss battles were the best parts but man the combat system as a whole for the normal fights just grated on me after a while. Felt like the whole thing just took way too long for even simple fights.
Okay with the other bosses, you may have a point and those manga designs are fantastic, we should have had those, but the ones we got serve their purpose too. These are Invaders of the Paper Mario World. The fact that they're foreign (non-paper) objects helps display how alien they are. They are essentially the 2d version of an Eldrich being. Or like what the UltraBeasts are for Pokemon.... most of them anyway. That said, you're completely missing the point of the Vellementals. The point is that they ARE Origami! More specifically, they are Deities from the Oragami world. They provide powerups and special attacks that are plot and character relevant to the story. Also, they're clearly based on the four cardinal directions/celestial beasts. They are NOT just random animals. If these characters did not function and look the way that they did then why the HECK would the story called "The Oragami King"? That's like having Sticker Star without stickers (given nobody actually liked Sticker Star's stickers and how they were utilized, but that's Beside The Point!)
These bosses, due to the fact they're flat, probably wouldn't work within the same ring based battle system. And I honestly couldn't care any less about that, they look absolutely phenomenal, they have such a charming feel to them.
The Origami King is my favourite Paper Mario game of all time because it have a beautiful art style, good story, it's not too long game, it have a nice music, characters, battle system and defienitily bosses are awesome I really agree with Nin10land with The Origami King's bosses they're so fun really a scizor and pencils are bosses in The Origami King! 😅
For me, Paper Mario: The Origami King is my favourite game. I love the story, characters, and it's not a long game. I like how people have redesigned these characters, but I just prefer the game just the way it is because after all this is the *Origami* King, not the Paper King
I also think it's underrated but I hate the game show name and perfect game achievement it's the one thing I haven't done because of the sudden death I suck at guiding to the right answer under a time and move limit
no offence, but complaining about the start about reusing the same Mario enemies, then praising a guy who uses those "same" Mario enemies as bases for the redesigns contradicts hard.
I like these ideas, but my only problem is the Dracula wielding a hole puncher. Have him be the hole puncher by munching on things and have him cough the punches out by jumping on him like the Perry Piranha fight from Sticker Star. Then the ring tiles have their holes patched up and Mario can go get his punch like the vanilla game
1: All of them except scissors don’t fit the original personalities 2: Redesigns like the Jester Colored Pencils and the Genie Tape don’t fit the battle mechanics 3: Harry didn’t do Stapler 4: The redesigns are paper characters which screw up the fact that King Olly hates paper beings.
The vellumentals could have looked like this because they were supposed to not be origami before Olly came, just never actually showed how they used to look originaly
I feel like a lot of the people here are newer Paper Mario fans, because the whole “they don’t feel like Paper Mario” is just completely in accurate. Sure, in modern times they don’t fit it, but the only characters? Yeah they are definitely Paper Mario character designs for sure
@@NuiYabuko there are many people saying it doesn’t fit “Paper Mario” and the way they are treating its like it’s weird for them to see a “oc” as if that’s not what classic paper Mario had
I believe that Vellementals can stay the way they are. It's mostly the "Tool squad" that could use a bit of a work. I honestly thought of making the BBEG use the souls/paper spirit (more specifically possibly established kings other than bowser could be those unfortunate souls, since we already have King Bob-omb, Goomba, Boo and to a degree piranha plant in petey the piranha plant. This could also serve to slightly expand on the paperverse by fleshing out the kingdom more than just "Ok here is paper mario 64 and Thousand year door and this is as much good and relevant mario lore as you're gonna get from paper mario") as a power source for the art and crafts tools and when you defeat a "tool boss" you get the "king" as your partner
0:52 to me they don’t need character designs. They’re good the way they are. from a humans perspective they’re not terrifying at all. But from papers perspective, these might as well be the four (are in this case six) horsemen of the apocalypse! To me ilove the fact they’re just moving living pieces of stationary.
Yeah, it feels like the people complaining about them being goofy lack imagination. People say stuff like “it’s just a pair of scissors it can’t hurt Mario” as if Mario isn’t literally made out of paper in this game, and as if the game didn’t make the scissors animate. Like, yeah, being attacked by a hole puncher as a human wouldn’t be scary, but being attacked by a hole puncher as paper would be. All they need to do is imagine themselves in Paper Mario’s shoes, but I guess that takes too much effort for them.
@@MySnugglePuppy well that or they lack the imagination. I just wish they added a glue boss, I whole concept for it. A new area, new folded soldiers, new characters, new weapons, and a new vellumental.
@@TheConceptking-x5n Harry’s genie design for tape would be way more fitting for glue. Like, take the typical kids glue dispenser design and then have a massive glue chunk come out of the top like that one potted plant boss from Yoshi’s Island.
@@MySnugglePuppy that would be a good idea. But I was thinking more like it being an evil Duke being carried around everywhere by his servants. Like imagine a gigantic glue bottle with king Ollie symbol on it, sitting on a giant cardboard chair, being carried around by a bunch of glue sticks, they would either be hopping around or rolling. The area would be sort of like this medieval England area with a castle. And he would be guarding the pink streamer.
Recently replayed the game, it was the first paper Mario game I ever played, so it has a special place in my heart. If the game had a remake, the characters could be better designed. Paper Mario :The Origami King is truly underrated
while i do agree some of these designs would be cool designs like the hole punch wouldn't have fit his personality as much as it does in the original origami king imo
7:12 Here's the leeway though. HG uses Fanto (a floating mask) as his face. You can still have that open/close mechanic by having him summon the pencil case during the second half, and then merge with it, where he's part of the large device you now gave to attack. And it doesn't to necessarily be in 3D either.
The problem with that Design is that it doesn’t fit Colored Pencils’s personality. The Phanto Mask Jester with the Colored Pencils them looks more goofy and cheerful, which doesn’t fit the art snob that is Jean Pierre Colored Pencils the 12th.
12:00 i like that you thought of it as a chain chomp since it's personality is just a dog but i don't think it being a chain chomp since the function at the end of the fight is mario breaking the dog's nick which i don't even think is possible with a chain chomp
Ironic that Nin10doland acknowledges that Stapler is a dog but doesn’t realize that Harry Gold screwed up the personalities of previous Los Members (except for Scissors).
I don't think the flat versions of the vellementals should be that main bosses, but the form they take on after the boss battles. It is implied that the vellementals became aggressive due to being folded into origami, so it makes sense for them to be origami during the battle, and flat afterwards

Disco vampire.
@@reesewhittington6778 That would work better, but that isn’t the design Harry made. Harry’s design is a magician vampire.
@@MySnugglePuppy ah, sadge. Disco Vampiranha Plant sounds like word vomit yet simultaneously paints a beautiful image in my mind.

Office supplies aren’t gonna stop me from ranking Origami King as my favorite Paper Mario game
Ong
You’ve never ever and I mean NEVER, have played paper mario 64 or ttyd in your life. Btw how old are you?
Them just being objects used to hurt paper is kinda the whole point
I do think that origami king is underrated
Yeah its very underatted
My only problem is that they don’t introduce as many original NPC characters as the older games. After Super Paper Mario, most characters were just bland variations of species in the Mario universe.
Same
Yeah it's too underrated, I LOVE The Origami King! 😢❤
Its my fav game ever made (just me though)
The boss battles in origami king were so cool ngl, I literally love this whole series but I was shocked how creative the gameplay was (even if it was just school supplies lol)
Literally the school supply idea was kind of genious specifically the hole punch and scissors cause they hurt paper in real life
People say fighting school supplies is unoriginal as if a game has done it before.
The origami king without Origami!? I mean should the legion of stationary should folded soldiers?
In origami king is stated that Olly changed the vellumentals from paper to origami so they can make this designs canon
Part of the reason I loved the bosses is that they were just art supplies.
Me too
Agreed!
Yeah, it honestly added charm instead of taking away from it. I would go as far to say that Harry’s designs are way less charming than what we got.
The whole point of origami king s plot is that it s supposed to be origami and origami tools vs flat paper.Taking that away undermines the entire plot
Literally
That doesn't mean the character design doesn't need improvement. : /
@@mdalsted they don’t, that’s just an opinion based off of the players false expectations of a game that did nit, in any way promise that every game after it would have all the same Design Strategies
That’s how we get new things, we leave behind the old
Theses designs are amazingly creative, but they don’t fit in the actual game itself, I like that the bosses are all blunt art objects
It sells the point of how strangly bland, restrictive lifeless and dangerous the origami thing is
@Sleepy_Muse While I understand and even somewhat agree with your point, I do think the execution is somewhat lacking.
@@Sleepy_Muse
What goldlight1322 said.
Idk if this is a hot take, but i think this goes against the game's design
The fact that they turned scissors into someone that looks like a shy guy whit scissors ruins the fact that in the story scissors cut up Bowser troops, rubber band is a stage performer but now he looks too...
Yep.
The Legion of Stationary is perfect as it is. Full of personality, actually involved in the plot of their stages.
I guess we have to always complain 😅
@GreenMaskPictures Absolutely, I would love to see someone make this a reality. Please message me when you post it.
@@slashtheporcupine6746Sure! I’ll start tomorrow!
Ironic. I just got a paper Mario: The thousand year door ad for this paper Mario video
Origami king is peak fiction, and it just had its 4th frickin anniversary last week ( though I still wish Nintendo could recognize TOK and celebrate it). It’s a very underrated lil game so it’s quite rare to see pmtok content and video essays, so thx for making this vid!
It’s also TTYD 20 anniversary today!
I mean, I thought it was very apparent that TTYD fans absolutely do not like anything about The Origami King.
My favorite boss fight from paper mario the origami king is the handaconda you had to beat it in rock paper scissors in order to win
thats actually epic!
@@rainbowcat498And the hand reminds me of Shadow Queen’s hand
You know? If the characters were origami themselves, that would make sense hospital
Handaconda/Boss Sumo Bro theme is my favorite song in Mario history
Theoretically, if Nintendo were creative with the character designs, they could ditch the origami aspect and call it paper Mario: the legion of stationary, or something like that.
Probably would’ve had scissors as the villain.
better is kinda subjective. personally, i loved the object bosses, like the thing cards getting back at mario.
These "redesigns" dont work
1.he never kept the personilitys of the characters.
I dont like the redesigns for more resons then this
2. The vellumentals are MEANT to be origami making them paper derails the plot, they were peaved at us because they were folded by origami, maybe they can unfold and tell olivia how to fold into th e vellumentals instead of the bibliofold but im still pretty mad about this one
I agree with you on the first reason but for the second reason to Harry literally says this is before they got folded
@@Leftover-i6b i honestly forgot why i wrote 2 in the first place
@@FliplicheReplace reason 2 with this reason: Harry turned the Legion into paper beings, which contradicts King Olly’s hatred towards unfolded people (specifically toads) due to his creator (who he hates) being a paper toad. It wouldn’t make sense for Olly’s generals to be paper beings. Also here’s a third reason: Harry didn’t do Stapler.
Love seeing Origami King getting attention! Wonderful game. Also, I can't believe it's been four years since it came out.
5:52 Maybe that's exactly what we're looking at. The defeated Vellementals as NPCs returned to normal (or purified as actual characters).

You do realise that Legion of Stationery design don't work with the story of The Origami King, and even less in refolded
So much for respecting the artistic vision of the devs, right?
The reason that the vellumentals didn’t look very evil and mean is because these were the nice and friendly vellumentals before they were turned into origami and turned evil
Also I’m hearing a lot of things you speculate about the designs which he said in his video, did you even watch it?
In my opinion Paper Mario Origami King doesn’t need anything to make it better
These new bosses does not look more creative and look like their from sticker star. A giant origami turtle feels a lot cooler than a big Koppa troopa
Sorry to y'all but for me Origami King is such a masterpiece
I played it and 100% it again basically last month and it was such a blast
I recently 100% it too after playing the TTYD remake, and if I’m being honest TOK was more fun.
1. It chucks them from its back into its mouth and then fires at Mario
@@cometcartoons8528Now I’d like to see you redesign the other 5 members of the Legion.
Oof that might be tough. Tell you what. Give me some time, I might be able to do all of them. I don’t have good video equipment so I might feature it on Deviantart like my fan made partners for Paper Mario.
I was not expecting harry to be talked about by Nin10land of al people
The game is incredibly underrated tbh.
It’s not origami without origami
I have an idea for the stapler. So basically, a cowboy using two staplers as pistols and when he runs out he smacks you with the staplers.
I like that idea
Great idea!
Doesn’t fit, Stapler is supposed to be a rabid dog.
I'm pretty sure the entire point of Stapler was that it's supposed to be a dog. There's literally dog whistles in its theme.
How about this, a large 3d mechanical chain chomp with a cannon inside of it’s mouth that can shoot out staples.
ok, so hear me out... maybe the redesigns for the bosses can be repurposed as mini bosses b4 you fight the actual bosses, like they are elite minions for the bosses that olly made to help the stationary.
Or better yet, make the redesigns actually fit the characters they’re replacing. Plus remove the paper outlines to give us the idea that they’re 3d characters.
How to fix the vullemental problem
1 instead of being forced to fight Mario by olly they put Mario through a trial to get there allegiance
2 once defeated instead of Olivia becoming them they shrink and join your party
3 make them grow when you fight them
Origami King is my favorite and I’m getting color splash tomorrow (I’ve played all but sticker star and color splash)
Color splash is so fun imo! I personally like it more than Thousand year door, but I haven’t finished the latter, so I might have to come back to this😂
I’m fine with the Vellumental design but I think the Legion of Stationary could be great with real unique designs (especially Scissors)
Love paper mario origami king
I Like Oragami King Because It Had Unique Boss Battles, And The Game Tried To Be New And Different
What about scissors?
@@GreenMaskPictureschange his handle colors to white with yellow wisp in the holes to look like a skull.

I don't know on that one.
4:50 That doesn't look like Dorrie from Mario 64. That looks like the later redesign for the GameCube/NDS games
Finally more people realize how amazing the Harry gold show is
I think the favourite one of scissors
That’s because it’s the only one that fits the boss’s original personality.
They didn't.
Why would I think that the hole punch boss be a chain chomp instead
Stapler should be Chain Chomp
Hole Punch could be a scorpion who wears disco accessories and has hole punchers for claws and stinger.
nope, someone didnt make the origami king 10X better. they made it 5X worse lmao
More like 10x worse
While these are some pretty good ideas, Colored Pencils and Hole Punch aren’t bosses for sea-themed worlds.
How would Olivia turn into the Vellumentals if they aren't origami?
King Olly transformed the nice vellumentals into origami to make them evil
Question aren’t the bosses meant to be 3D
Why does everyone always misgender the gosh dang rubber bands she literally sings in an “angelic” voice the first time you see her

I also think it's underrated but I hate the game show name and perfect game achievement it's the one thing I haven't done because of the sudden death I suck at guiding to the right answer under a time and move limit
you could use the designs seen and then have them fold into origami shapes resembling the ones in the game in a later boss phase
no offence, but complaining about the start about reusing the same Mario enemies, then praising a guy who uses those "same" Mario enemies as bases for the redesigns contradicts hard.
Hey, now King Ollie can be a hypocrite in style!

4: The redesigns are paper characters which screw up the fact that King Olly hates paper beings.

I've got an idea for the hole punch piranha plant maybe you have to attack from behind cuz if you get in front and try to attack him he bites you
0:52 to me they don’t need character designs.

@@TheConceptking-x5nHonestly, eraser would be guarding the pink streamer. How about Glue guarding the orange streamer?
Recently replayed the game, it was the first paper Mario game I ever played, so it has a special place in my heart. If the game had a remake, the characters could be better designed. Paper Mario :The Origami King is truly underrated
while i do agree some of these designs would be cool
designs like the hole punch wouldn't have fit his personality as much as it does in the original origami king imo
Same with tape
and colored pencils
and rubber band
The scissors redesign is cool though so that doesn’t need changing
