Yeah. While I don’t like origami king too much (still has that bitter taste in the mouth that sticker star gave the series imo) but the music is PEAK and I’m glad the ttyd remake took notes for the remade music

Instead of complaining about where you placed certain songs 😬 I thought I’d say how much I appreciate you knowing and using actual music terminology! Anyone could make a ranking, but it can be hard to talk about the music beyond “it’s good” or “it’s bad” lol
Super Paper Mario has the most underrated OST ever dude. I know everyone freaks out over electric guitars + orchestra and whatever but electronic music deserves more love I think. Every song in SPM has such a unique composition and I kind of wish the TTYD remake sounded a LITTLE bit more electronic. Probably a hot take though. Anyway, nice video I enjoyed it.
@@Magic_Ice It's just that people don't really talk about it as much as the others. Heck, it's completely wiped off of youtube. Basically impossible to find a full SPM ost on there thats got more than 2 views.
Completely agree, and I think not nearly enough people talk about this. I have an issue with some orchestral soundtracks' tendency to become a bit samey-soundig because the intrumentation lacks variety. Continuing the hot takes: I think Super Mario Galaxy's OST falls victim to this in many places, and that it's not nearly as great as people hype it up to be. I am by no means an expert on music theory or composition, but it always seems to me that electronic music is more versatile when it comes to covering and featuring certain individual instruments. Orchestra can fall into the trap of just becoming a difficult to distinguish mix of all of its instruments with one taking a distinguished lead, at least that's what I think sometimes.
Part of SPM's uniqueness in the eletronic music is that SPM doesn't try to do a Paper design, it does a Digital Art design. Doing that for TTYD would somewhat break the style.
That idea with the stagelighting as ranking is really fun and it shows the insanity, of regular mario enemies, koopaling, weird character from game 2 and 3 and then the household materials from origami king, paper mario bosses went through a wild tranformation over the years
Haven't finished the video yet but for the thing with Spectacular Finale referencing the SM64 Wing Cap theme despite nobody flying, that version of the Invincibility theme is commonly used as a simple alternative, and even debuted as the standard Super Star theme in Yoshi's Island anyways.
"I don't care if I get hate because of this opinion, but 53:38 is my favorite paper mario final boss song." In all seriousness, this is a very respectable ranking. The presentation is absolutely phenomenal too! It was satisfying seeing everyone on stage and seeing which ones remained.
1:32:39 "A melody of impending death" At that specific moment, my tablet ran out of battery, the screen being black, and this during the night. I was so feared/stressed when he kept zooming in the shadow queen, and then my device closes itself 😨😱
Also, his tastes are in line with most of the fandom. Just the fact that more of the half of the Sticker Star songs are bad and the others alongside it are generic means he knows what makes good music in the Paper Mario series. His tastes are not that far off the mark from the average. His top picks are respectable even if not the stereotypically popular. And most of his good songs are considered good.
Ik this is not at all a recent video but i must defend The Missile Maestro theme. I personally think the statement about it not eliciting anything reminiscent of the boss is untrue. At the beginning of the song there’s this kind of wiping synth that sounds like an eraser on a whiteboard or just an eraser in general, best way to describe it is like this “woub wowb” kind of sound. Shortly after is this splotchy sound that i think is a synth, and it feels JUST like your blotting a paint dot on a canvas, like a splatty noise. In the video you did mention the quick synth plucks were reminiscent of pencil strikes, and i guess I agree, but it also kinda feel like they sound like boomwhackers, those brightly colored instruments youd find in music class, perfect given how they are essentially what colored pencils would look like if they were instruments. Last is this kind of clicky ticky percussive sound. It sounds like two things to me: Flicking paper really fast, and clicking paintbrushes together. Speaking of that, the cowbell found later in the soung sounds like banging a paintbrush on a metal container toud typically find one in
I’m surprised you ranked spectacular finale lower than I expected, mainly just because you said it was the wing cap theme, which the wing cap theme is actually a remix of the Star theme, which actually fits a boss phase in a Mario game where you power up enough to defeat a foe with nearly invincible power, I felt that affected your ranking so that is why I was confused
@@NicDI was actually looking through where that added riff originated from the other day and always thought it was 64, was shocked to find out yoshis island started that.
I loved the Nagito appearances every time you mentioned hoped and despair lol. Great list, my personal favorite is Freeze!, so having it in the top 10 is good enough for me, I do think you did Morton dirty though, that song is quite the bop
1:11:43 Do I have news for you! That "voice" is actually a virtual instrument called "Delay Lama". It's very easy to find it and mess around with by yourself. It achieved _meme_ status for being called "one of the worst virtual instruments of all time"... But still, some people enjoy it and make funny remixes with it.
Ooooh thanks for identifying it! Disco Devil is MY favourite Paper Mario battle theme and that bizarre voice thing always absolutely fascinates me too!
As someone whos favorite video game song (ever) is The Shifty Sticker, I had an excessive dopamine rush upon seeing it in the top 10 (then the top 5 [then spot 3])
Dual-bladed duelist to me, justifies the legion of stationary being bosses in a paper mario game Facing what is essentially The Reaper of this world in a duel to the bitter end, with its rules and its guidelines is so exilerating, it feels like a battle for something far greater than what the final boss stands for.
I don't think it does, but it gets really, really close to doing it. Also, if the literal-Paperism returns to Paper Mario 7, it would be fun to see Scissors steal the spotlight as the main villain. Making him the most deranged, terrifying character with that (smug) honorable facade is a cool idea that could be expanded on with proper screen time.
Oh man! We're off to a great start, because I actually LOVE Bowser's 1st phase theme from Sticker Star, AND I adore Magnus Von Grapple's theme! The wonderful joy of musical opinions!
Im biased to SPM, but you have got unique taste. Putting Tape at 3 is a good choice though! Remember guys, this is all personal taste and opinion, there are no wrong answers (for the most part) only unpopular ones!
Hey, I'm not someone who comments a lot but I definitely wanted to do it here ! Probably not many people will comment on this, but I want to say that I LOVE the way you eliminate each character from music to music, I'd say it was funny and exciting for me to see the number of characters decrease little by little, original and inspiring ! Very interesting ranking nonetheless, probably some hot takes compared to some popular opinions but hey who am I for juging, I have some hot takes too !
Very unique #1 placement! It’s a song I like that I don’t see too much praise for, it’s not my personal #1 favorite, though it certainly places high, and I’m glad to see that it’s someone’s favorite!
I adore the way you spliced together the background music to fit the part of the song you're talking about, while making sure it doesn't ruin the flow by only cutting at the appropriate time, throughout the entirety of a 2 hour video. Actually insane attention to detail and adds so much to the video. Really, great video.
The Grodus and Magnus von Grapple Battle Themes are amongst my favourite in the Remake version. Hoping we have a video talking about TTYD remakes OST because I think it is one of the best OSTs in gaming history.
Regarding the "Spectacular Finale", that melody appeared first in Yoshi's Island, when baby Mario gets invincible In fact, it would be the starman tune for that game, reused later as the wing cap theme in Mario 64. So it's, in reality, a nod to the invencibility you get with Kersti being used.
Shifty Sticker is unironically my second favourite video game song, ever. It's genuinely insane how much I love it. As a whole I absolutely love the boss music in this series and TOK especially just took my already high expectations and blew them out the window.
I love Origami King a lot, and its soundtrack really helped sell me on it. I really wasn’t expecting as much electric guitar as it ended up using but it works so well.
Duuuuude there are soooo many hot takes in this video. Only reason I haven't closed it is because I'm starting to doubt if the soundtrack for these games is so stellar that many bangers had to be put so low. Edit: i watched the whole video now and yes, its mostly because there are so many epic songs in the series that many get buried in the back. I still feel like theres around 15 hot takes but thats ok for a 90+ song tier list, cant agree on everything
I love how this came out like five days before the TTYD remake completely remixed the entire soundtrack, including new main battle theme remixes per chapter and sometimes per location a la Origami King. Got it in before your whole job got like fifteen times harder.
Funny enough, Magnus Von Grapple’s theme being the second bottom, I agree. But then the remake gave that song a complete overhaul and it skyrocketed for me, especially the third version 😫
This video had amazing production quality and such a fun revelation of which song was the best with the stage revealing each placement one by one. The editing and intentionality that went into this must've been a lot of work, fantastic job man. Definitely subscribed after this great video
Finally! Doo_liss's theme has been my favorite boss theme in my favorite video game series of all time, seeing another person put his theme so high up brings me so much joy you have no idea! Excellent video, well done-
I absolutely loved this video, can't wait for the next ranking, I really hope that the next one you do is the Kirby boss themes; it’s always been my favorite of all of your medleys, and I really want to see what your opinions on them are.
That was a great video! I loved the in-depth explanations, and mainly how each part of your explanation for each theme was done precisely while the section of the theme was playing. And hell yeah, The Ultimate Show is SO GOOD.
Absolute joy of a video from start to finish. I'm a Paper Mario veteran but a music theory noob, so hearing your explanations and reasoning behind each song's placement was really enlightening. Big fan of your channel!
Hey dude i LOVE that video about the ultimate paper mario battle songs 3 years ago. I wanted to thank you. I discoverd it about 2 weeks ago and listened to it like 100 times already and now after 3 years a ranking is just EPIC. So thank you. ❤
My personal favorite has to be Freeze!, I think it just works so good at making you feel like you are in an isolated cold place in the middle of nowhere but you can hear the sound of the way to the stars beeing really close, even sounding like a rainbow road theme at some points It's also nice to hear a song for the boss of an icy area that doesn't sound like you are battling evil Santa Claus or a generic snowman.
These ranking videos are just exceptional. The presentation, the genuinely insightful commentary, the little bits of personality and humor. I’ve been meaning to get up and go do things for the last 40 minutes and I’ve been rooted in place watching this instead.
I actually view the final phase of TTYD's final boss as a sort of cautious hope. You've reached your lowest, unable to do anything to her while the droning bassy music plays. Eventually you break out of that despair as one of the most hopeful songs in the series plays, We Believe in you Mario. Then you can actually damage her again as the final boss music plays and it feels like you have a chance. She can still demolish you if you aren't careful, but you have a glimmer of a chance if you keep fighting. All of that to say that the song is much more emotional and driving in context than just by itself.
Say what you will about Origami King's boss design, I for one think it's cool that a tape roll with a greaser haircut is using a dispenser as a motorbike. Though the OST is commonly agreed to be peak and that's what matters here
as someone who actually really adores the boss design in origami king, i find it amusing that he clearly isn't a fan of it himself but can't help but begrudgingly admit that yes, even so, origami king's OST is peak
I loved The Legion of Stationary. While it would have been cool to have something more unique than just the stationary itself (like an origami samurai wielding scissors or something), the fact that you’re just straight up fighting these tools is both comedic and cool, since placing yourself in Mario’s role allows you to see how dangerous these things can be if you’re made of flat paper (like having parts of your body removed in less than a second with Hole Punch or actively being ripped to shreds by Scissors). Tape barely had a presence in chapter four at large yet his personality and music alone make him one of my favorites. They also make great use of what each member of the legion would do in the real world to create genuinely fun battle mechanics. And regardless of your stance on them, you’ve got to admit that they at least have more personality than bosses like Lava Piranha or Smorg.
(PAPER MARIO THOUSAND YEAR DOOR SPOILERS) seeing Doopliss' battle theme at 4 actually makes me very happy, it was my favorite out of the ost, and i liked the chapter overall, with doopliss litterally being one of those ghost costumes you'd see at halloween, or bursting through the wall like it's literal paper.
Not sure why you mention that theme in Spectacular Finale as just "the mario 64 wing cap theme" when that version of the theme came from yoshi's island's variant of the starman theme and 64 just kinda remade it but alright
Excruciating watch, Monty. And that’s exactly why I love it. Your takes were wildly different from my own ( I know nothing about music theory). I learned a lot, thanks!
I disagree with the notion that Cortez's theme doesn't suit a pirate ghost. It's just doing it in a much more original way than the "Shiver me timbers and/or rattle me bones" soundfont most composers would default to. Great video, though! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the TTYD remake's OST.
FINALLY, not too bad of placement for what I’ve seen, I’m glad I get to see this finally. Intelligent studios have cooked songs for years Also new songs in ttyd remake are gonna make all of the songs better
That was a joy to watch! Seeing someone familiar with music talking about the songs was very unique, and has honestly opened my eyes a bit to why I visited soke of these tunes a bit less frequently than others (mostly the sticker star ones lol), and also vice versa! Nice work
I wish this video came out just a LITTLE later. The new boss themes [in TTYD's remake] are great, and it probably would have saved Magnus von Grapple from 2nd worst.
i love that you have jazz and overall music knowledge, it makes the video genuinely interesting as opposed to “this song good this song bad” and appeals to people more into music as a whole! i may not agree with all your picks but it very engaging and entertaining. i had to comment this after you referenced the giant Thelonius Monk i love that mf lmfao
I like to believe that in brobot battle the goofy part is the real Luigi’s innocence showing out while Mr L tries to shut that back in snapping back into the main melody
Great job! Always love to hear opinions that are so different than mine! A note to the editor - those censoring beeps every time Gxxywod7's name is mentioned are absolutely deafening compared to the rest of the audio. Maybe consider replacing it with something softer and relevant to the chapter they are in, like the oink of a pig or the soothing lullaby of the Amazy Dayzee.
The strangest part about this video is the fact that it was uploaded the same week I just added the Dual-Bladed Duelist to my playlist. Creepy. Fracktail was done dirty though :(
Great presentation for a top list ! A lot of work went into it and that shows Edit : Origami King OST slaps hard. I would have included Origami castle though, as it continues to play during battles, merging them with exploration altogether
I've got to say, I really liked the way you formatted this video! It's an interesting and engaging way of doing a list like this. It shows that you put a lot of thought into it. I've never decided on my favorite Paper Mario battle theme until now, but my gut instinct is telling me it's The Shifty Sticker, so I'm glad you like that one too. The opinion I disagree with most on the low end is Sticker Star's Bowser Jr Battle. I would've placed that one way higher. I love the way the song hands off the melody between the different instruments, and how it switches back and forth from left/right ear. The accordion countermelody they add on the repeat is fun, and the whole bouncy, vaguely swingy feel is perfectly fitting for Bowser Jr. I have no shame in saying it's one of my favorites from that game. The one I disagree with most on the high end is King Croacus IV's theme. I guess I've never really understood this one? It sounds very disconnected and messy to me. I don't like whatever is going on in the background either. I do really like that Floro Sapien Caverns riff (it's genuinely intimidating), but that's just one part of the song. I'm not sure what to make of it. At least you found some value in it. I was indeed surprised seeing I'm Not Nice in the top 10. Never would've considered that one. Good video, I liked it a lot.
I'm starting a d&d one shot set in the world & stylings of Paper Mario, and I am using this to kinda listen and pick out some songs that'll be good to add to the combat playlist. Definitely gotten some new solid songs here. :)
I've been preaching for years that Kamek is the single best (and perhaps the only redeeming) part of Sticker Star. He's active in the story (with Bowser just sitting in his castle, he's basically the game's main villain), his dialogue is entertaining and his battle theme is the best track in the game. Glad to see that you agree with the last one. Brobot Battle is one that I think gets too little praise. That one is frantic, energetic and just overall a jam. Glad to see it this high. Love the apprechiation for I'm Not Nice's second section. I don't hear many people talk about it, but I love it to bits. King of the Koopas is definitely my favourite Bowser battle theme in any game, not just Paper Mario. It's just that good, perfectly encapsulating the stakes of this fight. Now, I haven't played Origami King. Color Splash neither, but I've seen a full playthrough of it, at least. So I have no connection or real opinion on any of Origami King's tracks; I simply don't know most of them. But that one section from The Dual Bladed Duelist you used in your Paper Mario Medley really is amazing. The rest of the track doesn't do it all that much for me, but that one section is super great. Some people in the comments are going on about how they really like Magnus von Grapple or defend Spectacular Finale, but I think that my favourite of the lower ranked tracks here would be the Master Battle theme. I also quite like Hey You! and Go! Mario! Go! It might just be my love for PM64's soundtrack - if you asked me to pick my favourite overall soundtrack in the series, I do think I would go with PM64.
I wonder if you realized you used the JP version instead of the US version of King of the Koopas, which doesn't have the guitar thingy, but rather the light vocal-like notes, which imo sounds cooler.
I am VERY happy with the placement of the Koopa Bros. That one main instrument that plays through the song that sort of sounds like "Bat-man!" is so awesome. I dont know if its synth or key, but its AWESOME. Paper 64 is such an overlooked game in the series, which is upsetting due to this theme being a BANGER. I'm happy to see your not one of those who overlook it, lol.. Not just that, but as an Origami King Simp, Stapler and Scissors theme are AWESOME, so Im happy they scored so high.
Origami king is such an underrated game. The music is fantastic (best of the paper mario games imo) and the battle system isnt that bad. Anyway, great video!!
Putting the Cortez's theme above Fracktail is mind-blowing to me. I'm super biased since I played SPM first, because that theme was really memorable for me. But Cortez's was just... so weirdly unfitting. So many things they could've done for a UNDEAD SPANISH PIRATE and they went with... that.
Just a little side note about king of the koopas, you were listening to the Japanese version of that theme, and while your statements do certainly still stand, the "pipes" in the back sound a bit rougher and the guitar solo as well in English version
Very fun watch, and interesting to see your opinions on some of my favorite VGM ever! I have to say I appreciate the love for much of CS/TOK’s OSTs; I’ve always kinda thought they’ve gone sadly under-appreciated. Origami King has such a fantastic soundtrack, and I’m glad they seem to be going for the same vibes with TTYD’s remade soundtrack too.
YIKES! My favorite is... 76th!? YIKES! That was my chase theme man! But KUDOS for I'm Not Nice! THAT is underrated. Also Brobot L-Type, The Ultimate Show... Though my favorite will always be the og Shadow Peach Battle. ^^

Yeah even if my favorite songs rank low it’s nice for there to be reasons
Super Paper Mario has the most underrated OST ever dude. I know everyone freaks out over electric guitars + orchestra and whatever but electronic music deserves more love I think. Every song in SPM has such a unique composition and I kind of wish the TTYD remake sounded a LITTLE bit more electronic. Probably a hot take though.
Anyway, nice video I enjoyed it.
i haven’t heard a single bad thing said about SPM’s ost, everytime it is brought up it is showered in praise so don’t say it’s underrated
SPM has the best sounding penis music on the market, woah zone practically invented the concept of penicular pieces
That idea with the stagelighting as ranking is really fun and it shows the insanity, of regular mario enemies, koopaling, weird character from game 2 and 3 and then the household materials from origami king, paper mario bosses went through a wild tranformation over the years
The fact you censored the Chapter 4 boss theme of Paper Mario the thousand year door. was pretty smart with the remake coming.
It was _retty cool
Should’ve done that for all of them
Yeah, until you realize that it was visible in the footage and he already revealed the bigger plot point, which was the theft of Mario's identity.
Amd his name when you decide on who to attack shows...😅
_retty smart if you ask me...
You know things are getting serious when a tape dispenser has a better battle theme than most RPGs 🔥
Stuff like this is why talent is often paired with insanity...
that’s because it is godlike
*Starts singing Tape’s theme*
"I don't care if I get hate because of this opinion, but 53:38 is my favorite paper mario final boss song."
In all seriousness, this is a very respectable ranking. The presentation is absolutely phenomenal too! It was satisfying seeing everyone on stage and seeing which ones remained.
Good reference.
Alright, time to start a 500+ comment chain that goes on for way too long
Ok
Now lets hope nobody calls you a maggot
thelakitubro because you're like 9. Haven't played the other games I guarantee you
1:32:39 "A melody of impending death"
At that specific moment, my tablet ran out of battery, the screen being black, and this during the night. I was so feared/stressed when he kept zooming in the shadow queen, and then my device closes itself 😨😱
The Smorg battle theme makes it feel like it's telling you several lives depend on you beating this thing.
SMORGSMORGSMORGSMORGSMORGSMORGSMORGSMORG
2:55 okay I’m one of them who defends this song. Thank you very much for understanding that.
53:57 well I do.
Fred about to stir up the toxicity of the Paper Mario fandom with his musical tastes, lmao.
It's already beyond saving so the only other option is to go even further beyond
It sounds like two things to me:
Flicking paper really fast, and clicking paintbrushes together.
And what is known as the "Wing Cap version" of the invincibility music actually premiered in Yoshi's Island.
I think freeze is also my favorite in the franchise there’s just something about it i can’t get enough of
But how many times does "hope" really show up? Because he always resets the counter to 1 every time.
I absolutely LOVE Disco Devil, a bit sad to see it didn't make it :(
My stupid butt waiting for Doopliss and feeling more and more dopamine every spot it gets higher:
(Tape and Doopliss are my favorites ever :))
Dual-bladed duelist to me, justifies the legion of stationary being bosses in a paper mario game
Facing what is essentially The Reaper of this world in a duel to the bitter end, with its rules and its guidelines is so exilerating, it feels like a battle for something far greater than what the final boss stands for.
The Koopa Bros. boss theme references the hammer bros fights from SMB3!
Indeed, the bass line is the same.
i didn't know that, even after a decade of playing this awesome game, paper mario, thanks for this
Im biased to SPM, but you have got unique taste. Putting Tape at 3 is a good choice though!
Remember guys, this is all personal taste and opinion, there are no wrong answers (for the most part) only unpopular ones!
Same
Origami king on #1 is very deserved. Its truly an overhated game bc of the battle system but everyone sleeps on the ost
@@JoPopcorn94 yeah, like, every youtuber i see playing NEVER says anithing about the bosses music😢
Very interesting ranking nonetheless, probably some hot takes compared to some popular opinions but hey who am I for juging, I have some hot takes too !
agreed man this was like the best edited and produced ranking video I've seen in like 5 years it was iconic
Same I love this style too it was unique
True
Very unique #1 placement! It’s a song I like that I don’t see too much praise for, it’s not my personal #1 favorite, though it certainly places high, and I’m glad to see that it’s someone’s favorite!
King of the koopas is different in the us version which is probably why you remember the solo as a guitar synth.
Regarding the "Spectacular Finale", that melody appeared first in Yoshi's Island, when baby Mario gets invincible
In fact, it would be the starman tune for that game, reused later as the wing cap theme in Mario 64.
Now that the remake is out, what do you think of the new Magnus battle themes? What would be the best new rendition?
I love Origami King a lot, and its soundtrack really helped sell me on it. I really wasn’t expecting as much electric guitar as it ended up using but it works so well.
Number one spot is so real I concur with that placement
51st? 51ST?
This is a travesty, amigo! I should've been at least in the top half and CERTAINLY better than that King Croacus fraud.
The real Cortez??? No way
Wow, the real cortez :O
Wow, the real cortez :O
Wow, the real cortez :O
I am very curious about what he thinks of the Magnus Von Grapple theme in the remake. It’s quickly become one of my favorite tracks in the series.
Definitely, all three versions are truly peak (but the first one is next level) compared to the acceptable original.
Excellent video, well done-
doo_lissious
Heck yeah, made it to the top 10.
Congratulations for you
Maybe when he does another one but for Kirby bosses I might be kinda high on the list
Hey friend.
I saw you in several Origami King OST videos.
How are you?
Ludwig?!
He's at it again!
@@DAOC88lmao same
With the remake, Magnus von Grapple is going to take a big leap up the rankings. Three different leaps at that.
Big fan of your channel!
this man has some hot takes and I respect the hell out of him for it. hope the fandom doesn't come after you for this
Hey dude i LOVE that video about the ultimate paper mario battle songs 3 years ago. I wanted to thank you. I discoverd it about 2 weeks ago and listened to it like 100 times already and now after 3 years a ranking is just EPIC. So thank you. ❤
My personal favorite has to be Freeze!, I think it just works so good at making you feel like you are in an isolated cold place in the middle of nowhere but you can hear the sound of the way to the stars beeing really close, even sounding like a rainbow road theme at some points
It's also nice to hear a song for the boss of an icy area that doesn't sound like you are battling evil Santa Claus or a generic snowman.
Just got to Rawk Hawk's theme part of the video. Every other song on this list better blow my socks off.
I love how you specifically called out Pyros33’s bs comment on the SPM OST. As an I’m Not Nice enjoyer, thank you.
1:51:26 you really did not just make that entire praise segment to buildup to a rock paper scissors joke (fantastic video by the way!)
Watching this after playing the remake of TTYD and man i love what they did with the battle theme being different each chapter.
1:19:10 The instrument is called a cuíca, named after the Portuguese word for a species of oppossum known for its squeaky calls.
Damn im so glad to have been randomly reccomended someone who makes really well said and informed opinions on video game music
(PAPER MARIO THOUSAND YEAR DOOR SPOILERS)
seeing Doopliss' battle theme at 4 actually makes me very happy, it was my favorite out of the ost, and i liked the chapter overall, with doopliss litterally being one of those ghost costumes you'd see at halloween, or bursting through the wall like it's literal paper.
Not sure why you mention that theme in Spectacular Finale as just "the mario 64 wing cap theme" when that version of the theme came from yoshi's island's variant of the starman theme and 64 just kinda remade it
but alright
Excruciating watch, Monty. And that’s exactly why I love it. Your takes were wildly different from my own ( I know nothing about music theory). I learned a lot, thanks!
One thing I loved about each of TOK chapter boss themes was that each of them fit the theme of their chapter and/or their personality PERFECTLY
I’m curious to see where the new boss themes in the TTYD remake would hold up, especially Attack of The Whacka
I wanna know where all of the TTYD battle theme variants from the remake go, for different chapters
FINALLY, not too bad of placement for what I’ve seen, I’m glad I get to see this finally.
Intelligent studios have cooked songs for years
Also new songs in ttyd remake are gonna make all of the songs better
That was a joy to watch! Seeing someone familiar with music talking about the songs was very unique, and has honestly opened my eyes a bit to why I visited soke of these tunes a bit less frequently than others (mostly the sticker star ones lol), and also vice versa! Nice work
I wish this video came out just a LITTLE later. The new boss themes [in TTYD's remake] are great, and it probably would have saved Magnus von Grapple from 2nd worst.
The original would’ve still been the second worst (assuming original and remake would’ve been ranked separately.
@@antonyc.7173 Idk, he didn't do that for the rearrangements in the Mario Kart ranking video. He always ranked them together.
i love that you have jazz and overall music knowledge, it makes the video genuinely interesting as opposed to “this song good this song bad” and appeals to people more into music as a whole! i may not agree with all your picks but it very engaging and entertaining. i had to comment this after you referenced the giant Thelonius Monk i love that mf lmfao
The voice from disco devil is actually a formant filter synth from Omnisphere, its a really nice sound that's also been used in Splatoon 3 as well!
Dang, I didn’t realize it was an Omnisphere sound! I use a lot of their synths in my own work. Right under my nose this whole time.
Haha nice, another person who noticed the shanty-esque nature of Shifty Sticker.
I like to believe that in brobot battle the goofy part is the real Luigi’s innocence showing out while Mr L tries to shut that back in snapping back into the main melody
Velumental Battle music in 49 only, Hole Punch 27th and Autumn Battle Theme in 20th? Their beat is too sick to be put that low.
A lot of work went into it and that shows
Edit : Origami King OST slaps hard.
The Atomic Boo theme from Thousand Year Door is fire as hell. Prove me wrong
Congrats, this is the fastest a video has ever gone out of date with how many new boss songs/variants were introduced in the TTYD remake.
Absolutely fantastic video I love the suspense with the spotlight, super creative I love it :)
Origami king is such an underrated game. The music is fantastic (best of the paper mario games imo) and the battle system isnt that bad. Anyway, great video!!
If only bro waited one more month to release this video so he could have all of the new and remixed battle themes from ttyd remake
I literally exclaimed 'WHAT' at you putting Magnus Von Grapple at 2nd worst, it's so good
Yeah this list is pretty busted 🥴
I paused the video I thought to my self “ do I realy want to watch this it might be realy bad
Putting the Cortez's theme above Fracktail is mind-blowing to me. I'm super biased since I played SPM first, because that theme was really memorable for me. But Cortez's was just... so weirdly unfitting. So many things they could've done for a UNDEAD SPANISH PIRATE and they went with... that.
I have never played this series, so I am just learning that Death Metal is a huge part of the ost lmao, right on
I wish you went into the Sticker Star Gooper Blooper sponge theme (The upbeat mix that gets played after using the sponge)
Just a little side note about king of the koopas, you were listening to the Japanese version of that theme, and while your statements do certainly still stand, the "pipes" in the back sound a bit rougher and the guitar solo as well in English version
i would LOVE a video going into all the references in these songs, because so many of them include sections that reference old mario music.
1:04:27 so, did you revisit the TTYD remake songs in a separate video?
Nope, he didn't
LETS GO SCISSORS! WOOOO THATS MY STABBY BOI
Wow this was such an amazing video!!!!! One of the coolest and unique ranking videos I have ever seen! Thank you for you time and effort putting this video together!! 🎉
Honestly, I think I really like all of paper Mario 64s chapter boss themes
Goomba kings is mid
Koopa bros is great
Tutankoopas has no right being so good
Tuba Blubbas is pretty great
General guys is fine
Naval piranha plants is pretty good
Huff n puffs is amazing
Cristal kinds is pretty cool
And the final boss theme is veeery good.
