Yeah I really hate that, but look people are going the leak the big stuff, it's our fault if we fall for the spoiler. Nintendo is just being the same stingy company they always were which is a shame.. But they managed to keep winning the console wars.
@@chillbizz74 Thing is that it makes sense. The cutscenes were supposed to be a surprise for us yet said surprised got spoiled, like when somebody tells you that a friend of yours is preparing a surprise party for you.
@@chillbizz74 Dude, you can't call them stingy when they got a flipping Disney owned character in the game. Subspace emissary wasn't even that good, just the cutscenes were interesting and if those get leaked, then people won't bother to get the game, that easy. Sales didn't do well, so company took a decision, doesn't help it was the Wii and that one didn't do that well either.
@@QuizMasterEntertainment Alright true and it is true that the cutscenes would've taken a lot of time, all though I just felt the reason a little petty..
@@chillbizz74 For context, what the video says is not absolute truth btw, it's just Sakurai's personal take, Nintendo thought SSE wasn't really worth the effort either, so they gave no single player to smash 4.
Here's the thing the fact Smash Bros Brawl's Subspace Emissary is STILL being talked about just shows that it was a good thing even if "the cutscenes will get leaked" issue Sakurai has. Like you said that was on the Wii, I can only imagine what a great story and proper world building could happen if they did again. Maybe it starts off with a character opening a dimensional portal so strong that other universes start showing up. Kirby could be the best character to start off with since he's done dimension jumping before from the Forgotten Land game.
It sounds more like a personal problem Sakurai himself has than an actual thing. You don't see other games really having that much of a problem with this. It's completely blown out of proportion
@@Cronalixz Well unfortunately Sakurai is a old school obstinate, not willing to change because it's his opinion. Probably only when someone else takes over will they try to change smash for the "better" by giving us another story similar to Subspace Emissary.
The problem is, that these cutscenes weren't even there for story or worldbuilding, because nearly no one at Nintendo cares about that. The cutscenes in Brawl are action filled eyecandy, and that is what they are supposed to be.
Literally one of the most exciting things about the Smash series were the cutscenes. As an opinion people may not like them, but as a fact, they do A LOT for a game
@@----Moon---- Original video said Rebirth when I checked it. Too lazy to go back but I have concentration issues especially when reading so like maybe I’m slow xD
1:17 he didn't get the rights from Disney Disney was 100% on board and okay with it but the reason why Sora was not added and was being held back for that long to not be in Smash Bros was because Tetsuya Nomura said he would need to come up with a little context of small lore on how Sora's appearance in Smash ultimate is Canon ... When Sora in Smash is not the real one and is just a figurine in the spitting image of him brought to life in the world of smash? Like even when iwata was still around, there is actual information in saying they are all toys fighting each other.
They are not making another Subspace because it jeopardized the development of Brawl. They needed entire studios to consistently work on not only the cutscenes but also the gameplay. Both of the game delays were a result of that. The cutscene thing has nothing to do with it. He talked about how many were shown online anyway to explain why they kept doing them as a marketing tool. They are not gonna come out and say, "It takes too long, and we don't have the resources." If he was entirely against their existence, there wouldn't be any in Kid Icarus Uprising and Smash Ultimate.
@allthedumbthingz-oc5cc Did you Know Gaming? for Brawl talks about the development of Subspace Emissary, and Source Gaming's "debunking misconceptions" explained the delays.
I'll take this over the cutscenes excuse. I totally get that another subspace would take a lot of time and budget. I just hope that if they do an adventure mode for the next game that it won't be as boring as World of Light.
I genuinely don't understand how Sakurai can be so concerned with Smash cutscenes being leaked online resulting in the game being spoiled for people, yet he was totally ok with making Sheik/Zelda a transformation character in Melee and Brawl and having tons of Final Smashes contain spoilers for their respective games. idk, it just makes me think there's more to this and a certain level of nuance to what he's trying to say is lost in translation or something.
@@drakejoshofficialyoutubech5569 it’s because it’s probably not the authentic reason. I fully believe that the underlying reason cutscenes aren’t in the cards is because it would be really expensive, and Sakurai doesn’t think it’s worth the expense when there’s a chance that people will end up experiencing those cutscenes in the wrong context. So instead, that budget goes into producing really epic reveal trailers, which are guaranteed to be experienced as intended.
@@hedgiehogdudeu_u406 He spoiled stuff about Metal Gear Solid 4 before it launched & he spoiled a bunch of late-game stuff about Mother 3 back in Brawl.
Bro, I can't get the image of Steve emptying his Inventory filled with Robot parts after defeating Galleom💀 And then those parts he dropped off the edge land on another fighter That would be the best cutscene in the game
Sakurai doesn't want to work on Smash anymore, that's why he worked to hard on making the characters to the point where he even got to set himself a home office to work on the smash reveals and to pretty much livestream from home, probably the next Smash if they actually make a new one will be even smaller because Nintendo will not get Sora, Banjo and many other non Nintendo IPs on it again, you know negotiations for those characters will not be easy, specially with Disney involved.
@@QuizMasterEntertainmentSakurai did all that work to get those IPs, so you're definitely right. The next Smash game will be more "Nintedo All-star" again. I don't have a problem with this personally, I'm ready for smash to move on from being mainly a product for the masses and be something focused on mainly being fun.
@@Cronalixz Couldn't have said it better, absolutely agree on it. Smash Bros is fun and basically started a whole genre, but probably it needs to be left behind, as fun as it is, it really needs a refresher to go back to the roots, less just fanservice and more just a fun pick up and play.
It's hard to believe how old it is now, but maybe Sakurai would be more comfortable with a "cutscene" done in the style of Half-Life 2 or Portal 1 & 2 where it's literally integrated directly into the gameplay? No one gets precisely the same perspective, because you can still move around during it, and sometimes (particularly Portal 2) you can slightly tweak the precise dialog with your actions. Valve's games had a hard time justifying the "silent protagonist" personas they used for these, but it's probably easier with Nintendo properties to do so.
Funnily Enough, Sakurai already has worked on a game that did that. Kid Icarus Uprising repeatedly had the characters engage in full conversations during regular gameplay, including cutscenes in much the same way you described.
I was thinking an RPG style or visual novel style where you walk around like an RPG and talk to characters with grunts. For battles it splits to 2D. I think this would allow to make a deeper story that’s also easier to create and include all the characters than what subspace does.
@@jigglypuff452 That could probably work well enough, though it may feel odd for a franchise like Fire Emblem to go back to sound byte voice clips after having most of it's dialog being fully voiced since 2017
@@shanegiorgio4713 I think the fe characters would have longer voice clips for grunts. For example the dialogue would say “Alright everyone, let’s go forth and make a way through this path.” While the grunt would say “I’ll fight for my friends.” Whereas another character like Peach would just giggle.
I love cutscenes, there are games where instead of playing them, I just watched the cutscenes on RUclips and those alone made me fall in love with the characters
@cvlcek144 No Mario and his friends are perfect for Mario characters in Smash Bros games being Star Fox bomb after Star Fox Zero. So Mario characters are good besides Waluigi without Sakurai permission so only Fox, Falco, and Wolf are the only ones and no one else.
@Twilight17Petkoton Then let's add more Fire emblem reps. BS. Mario has 13 reps in the game! Legend of Zelda have 6. Star Fox has 3, Fire Emblem has 8, Pokémon has 8, these are all NINTENDO ips. There is no reason why simply because Star Fox Zero wasn't favored well (literally only because forced motion controls) should have only 3 reps when it started as one of their most popular IPs. Krystal would be insane and the most Unique, General Scales also could be a Unique option.
I think a part of Sakurai's hangups with the cutscenes in Brawl at least might be the different perspective that Japan has when it comes to piracy. Essentially, if you're experiencing a product in any way other than the way it's supposed to be, in this case playing the story mode and seeing the cutscenes ingame, it's considered to be piracy, and so from his perspective, having cutscenes in Smash would be an incentive for people to do it. And game developers already have to be wary of actual piracy as is. An example of this happened in the Yugioh community recently when the Card Game Art Works artbook released, which contained a large amount of concept artwork that had never been shown to the public until then. People who posted pictures of the newly revealed art, or even made fanart based on details that were only revealed through it were being hounded to delete their posts because they were "pirating" the artbook by showing parts of it online. There's even some cases where a new card gets revealed on the official Japanese website, and people theorycrafting combos get hounded to delete their posts for showing that same image of the new card because of the "unauthorized reproduction is prohibited" watermark.
I mean, if it’s that big of a deal of them leaking, just don’t include them on the version 1.0 product. Download the cut scenes with a day one patch and there we go.
If it is not going to have them anyways in a sense, they may as well do so, yeah? I am not FOND of the idea, but if it shall for Nintendo to DO something cool again.
Sakurai's argument (or at least one he's shared before) is that the cutscenes will leak from the final game (before or after launch) onto the internet, and therefore the average consumer will not have to purchase and play XYZ game in order to see it's cutscenes, which are usually a rather expensive portion of game development, particularly in the case of cinematic, pre-rendered cutscenes, which are usually among the most prominent aspects of games to garner tons of feature length compilation videos across the internet. (See the amount of channels with playlists or 13 Hour long videos showcasing every single cutscene in Xenoblade 3's main story alone.) In-engine cutscenes tend to be comparatively simple and inexpensive to produce in terms of animation,* (VA's and other additions will still cost money if applicable) but Smash doesn't really have any of those. The closest example would be the victory animations, Which Sakurai has never lamented to seeing spread online, or at least not to a degree strong enough to abstain from producing them in future projects. * - Although not exclusively. (i.e. Xenoblade 3 again. In all those 13 hours of highly-posited and impressive cutscenes, only a very small amount of them are fully pre-rendered.)
then 20 years down the line if someone wants to get the used game and play it, they end up getting an incomplete game that they can't easily get the downloads for because the console would be out of service.
ADD SMASH RUN BACK! Add new maps, custom settings (time, enemies, layouts, etc) and new features (what if characters could run into each other and fight to steal their points, or even team up?)
I strongly agree with you. Smash Bros. is a game famous for its fanservice and there is no better fanservice than an epic story with famous characters interacting with one another.
Sakurai isn't painstakingly animating and modeling every character, I dunno why people are attributing everything to him and not the hundreds of people doing most of the work.
@@opadripof course he has help with a lot of it, but it's almost been blatantly shown he's in charge of a INCREDIBLE amount of it and has to test by himself. Characters, networking and getting licenses (whatever you call that process) is done by him. Nintendo characters aside, that's A LOT more work just to jam more of them in the game.
@@FallenFlame6666 I have a feeling people will either: overreact like you said, or strangely not care at all..which happened too many times when creators actually make something people asked for😅
I think there are ways around filling your story mode with nothing but cutscenes. You could still have a few, fully animated cutscenes, but have most of the interactions by via text (possibly text read outloud), like in Fire Emblem & Kid Icarus: Uprising. We could also use a lot more in-game cutscenes as well (like the animations that play before boss fights). They don't require as much time and budget as fully animated cutscenes and could still give us some character interactions
There is one way I know of to stop leaks from happening... The Game Awards, because who were the only DLC fighters of Smash that weren't leaked prior to their reveal? Joker and Sephiroth, the two fighters who were revealed at the game awards. I have a speculation that the game awards have some kind of secret power over their reveals that prevent them from being leaked, or something like that
Sakurai has been so persistent on this matter for the past SIXTEEN YEARS that I was terrified that he might get rid of Giga Bowser entirely because there were mods for standalone playable Giga Bowser. "I gave you the ability to play as Giga Bowser for seven to ten seconds, and that just wasn't enough for you. I am pleased to announce that Giga Bowser will never appear in a game again, you ungrateful chuds."
Another thing to think about is that for Brawl specifically, watching all the cutscenes also leaked the rest of the roster that, at the launch of the game, we didn't know who all made the cut and who was added in as far as hidden characters were concerned. Yeah some people probably leaked the roster beforehand, but seeing the cutscenes and gameplay on RUclips showed definitive proof as to who was finalized in the game. Nowadays, especially for Ultimate, Sakurai himself revealed every single character up to a month before the release, so the cutscenes in a hypothetical Subspace-like Adventure mode would just be interactions and story-related spoilers vs being essentially the Character reveals. So there'd be a lot less pressure to spoil yourself watching the scenes online anyways cause you wouldn't be itching to know what characters you'll unlock.
How about we could’ve gotten a DLC story mode Mario Vs Link in the beginning Inklings at Inkopolis watching Inkling team up with Mario Link Luigi in Dracula castle king boo captured Daisy Luigi team up with Simon and richter Isabelle team up with snake All fire emblem characters
Counterpoint: the Smash Dojo website at the time was revealing Brawl's roster that you could spoil yourself with with a few clicks of the mouse. Sakurai's exclusively having a problem with the cutscenes.
@@GrayAndGrey I'm saying at the time, the Dojo didn't have the hidden characters shown. We didn't know for sure about ROB or Lucario or that Mewtwo was cut, etc. And I'm saying Sakurai should realize why people were so eager to watch the cutscenes online back then vs now. Back then they got to see who is in the game. Now it'd just be the story alone as they'd know who is in.
@@JujanGamesProbably because Disney doesn’t want their characters punching each other in the face or using guns. I’m pretty sure that’s the whole reason we have Speedstorm
there's an easy work around it make the reveal trailers story mode cutscenes without telling us they're also cutscenes in the game (the part where the scene is leading up to the gameplay clips and the post gameplay part) anyway I honestly would like a new proper Smash Bros story mode it doesn't need to be a Subspace 2, but something in that direction would be nice to see :3 I'm sure if you put all the Smash Bros character reveals together, you can make a interesting story out of it ...sure it might need some aditional cutscenes, to show the boss and stuff, but it could probably work...if done well
The “cutscenes as a reward” tracks, because the one franchise Sakuri worked on in the past was Kirby, and in instances throughout this franchise, some cutscenes do feel like a reward for when you beat an ultra hard mode/boss rush campaign. It definitely makes sense from that point of view, but yea: I get what you’re saying here; that cutscenes are just a part of the game. And not every game is a Kirby game.
Sakurai said that he thinks cutscenes are rewards, so i think a cool idea would be to have a movie mode like in ultimate, but you have to complete the story mode first to get it.
He ain’t that old bro he can come out of retirement once in a while to make a game or two and he doesn’t have to work himself to death like he did with melee and brawl
I think the best case scenario for a story mode in a future Smash game would be bringing in the Mario and Luigi team after Brothership, the Mario and Luigi games always portrayed the Mario characters perfectly and having an entire separate team working on just the story and cutscenes would let it be even more epic than subspace without taking time away from the gameplay devs.
I thought I heard sakurai retired after smash bros ultimate, this man deserves a break, but I guess he can't stay away from doing what he loves best,I know people were worried about his health
Super Smash Bros. Evolution could be a working title for Smash 6. I can imagine a freeroaming open-world game mode that pays tribute to all the various Nintendo game universes. Essentially, a 3D Metroidvania mode that anthologizes every major Nintendo franchise.
I definitely agree! I think as kids, Subspace was so cool because we got to see all our characters together in actual story mode and when world of like showed us that initial trailer, we thought we would be getting that with more characters and even voice acting. So it's definitely unfortunate that he's against this, and it almost makes us want someone else to direct the game who isn't afraid of leaks. I do think Ultimate should be the final game with a big roster because I know it definitely takes a lot of third party support to do this, but if we weren't able to get a story mode due to copyright, then I would rather get a reboot that only focuses on newcomers and giving us a cool story mode to enjoy. By now, there's been a lot more Nintendo characters that can be added and other characters that deserve spotlight. With fewer third parties, we can get more first parties that people have been asking for, like Waluigi, Geno or give us new characters like Impa from Age of Calamity or Akira from Astral Chain.
I mean, I kinda get where Sakurai is coming from, he and the rest of the Brawl developers wasted years perfecting the surprise that were gonna be the Sub-Space Emmisary cutscenes and he wanted to see how we would react when the game finally got released only for the surprised to be spoiled thanks to a leak, it must have hurt them to see their surprise spoiled like this. Is like preparing a surprise birthday party for a friend but he learns about it somehow, the surprise is spoiled and the moment is ruined.
I can see cutscenes as a reward after a tough portion of the game. it's a nice way to cool down and feel great. That said as someone who like story based games I do think cutscenes are more essential than people who think they are just extra content that make games too much like movie would lead to you to believe.
Definitely it was a wise move not to do cutscenes. Sakurai choose to focus on getting guest characters to truly make Smash Ultimate. I only wish it had rollback netcode.
What I'd love to see along with something like Subspace, is actual Modes based off of franchises and they choose 10 for mostly single player. Like how about experiencing worlds of Pokemon, Sonic, Megaman, Metroid, ect and you do various battles and interactions with other characters that fans really wanna see. Instead of generic stuff like Multi Man bs, fight a dozen other Pokémon, Robot Masters and Mavericks, Shadows from Persona, ect and maybe even have them be allies. It's another reason why Subspace was liked, due to representation shown in it, but my idea is like a mix of Adventure, Classic and Smash Run, but more specified to one series at a time instead of randomly throwing them in (kinda like they did fkr Spirit Board DLC). They can take an All Star Mode approach to it but I recommend that they experiment
I kinda get Sakurai's perspective. Whats the point of going through the process of hiring animators and effort of rendering cutscenes if people are going to just spoil them online like whole milk? . I was lucky enough to go into subspace emissary completely blind.
What's the point of extra effort? I'm with the presenter of this video. If you're not going to give us a Subspace story at least give us more modes. What's the point of all these characters if they're just samey? I agree. Don't do cutscenes or Subspace. Fine. But where's Board the platforms, Race to the Finish, customizable movesets, customizable stages, ORIGINAL Break the Targets, instead of generic ones, Boss Rush Mode, Coin Launcher, Lottery, etc.? I could keep going. Oh wow. We got Steve from Minecraft and Banjo and Kazooie, but lost everything else. Hooray. This is CLEARLY Ultimate.
I loved Subspace Emissary for the interactions in cutscenes. I liked the Adventure Mode from Melee for the mix of having a character in a world that wasn't the one they were in in the first place. I wished Smash Bros Ultimate and 4's interactions were more than just matches.
There is literally 0 chance the next smash game cuts the roster at all or even refines any of the characters other than balance patches. After the ULTIMATE smash game I feel like the only thing they’re gonna do with it is add new party modes, maybe a new story mode and make WOL not butt, and then add extra dlc down the line. Next smash game is ultimate deluxe and I’d put money on that
It would be really cool for a Subspace Emissary sequel or remaster for smash bros ult. or the next smash bros, I loved the smash bros brawl story mode that is my childhood and that is honestly the most I want from Nintendo, that is my dream to come true, if it's possible I will the the happiest man ever.
I know people will disagree with me but he has a fair point, things get leaked all of the time and spoilers are the worst thing for games in my opinion. If I made something and it got leaked in any capacity, I would be broken and it's not like he is wrong and as for you saying just ignore them, it's not as simple as that. You either go away from the internet or see all these leaks, leaks are everywhere and no matter what, you're going to get spoiled for them, even looking at something as simple as the thumbnail can have you be looking at a leak because of how thumbnails are like nowadays. With this in mind, I actually agree with Sakurai with this
I can confirm this because y bought some games and as i was on RUclips the video that appeared had the ending boss in my screen and even as far as showing a New form to a important characther i was like oh well... so i think y understand sakurai he worked so Hard with his team just for this exiting plot points to get spoiled online back then when the Internet wasnt a big deal it was a Huge surprise to me when i seen Sonic and snake made it in the game and yes i didnt check the box in the back lol
Nah it’s a stupid excuse for just being too lazy to do a Subspace Emissary again. Everything gets leaked online in the age of the internet so by that dumb logic might as well not make the game at all because it will be leaked.
@@MadMax-ii8gq People have emotions, it's reasonable to get upset if anything gets leaked. It doesn't matter if it's common, just because it is does not make it any better.
@@TheGreatPM1Yet it’s unreasonable and stupid to say the content just shouldn’t be included because of a leak. As he said in the video if they applied that logic to gameplay leaks as well there just wouldn’t be a game.
Even if I agree with Sakurai's perspective, it doesn't mean he should nuke the possibility of a single player mode like it completely. The levels helped us newcomers understand the characters better and Subspace Emissary wasn't fully leaked until after the game was released. Smash Bros needs more unique single player modes.
Sakurai is a great guy, he's basically a _genius_ of game design... But its infuriating how petty he can be sometimes. He refused to have in-game cutscenes just because they were leaked online, and he drastically altered the gameplay from Melee to Brawl just because he hated how people were being competitive with it. Not to mention that time he said that he was the ONLY person who could make Smash Bros... That still to this day really bothers me, because it spits in the face of so many talented developers and designers that make fan-content and mods who do AMAZING jobs making Smash Bros. feel like Smash Bros... I mean, fans made an entire moveset for WALUIGI of all characters, and Sakurai never did _that._ He also really hates sequels for some reason.
The worst part is that it’s not limited to the creators of fan content; it’s also an insult to the devs of the official games. No one with any understanding of how games are made thought that Smash has ever been a solo project. Of course, this isn’t even getting into other interpretations of his statement, none of which are favorable.
What we really need for the next Smash Bros: -More Star Fox, Metroid, Earthbound, Kirby, Sonic, Mega Man characters because for some of them they didn't get any newcomer since Brawl except some who finally got something like the Metroid serie in Ultimate with Ridley and Dark Samus so, at least, somes new characters from Metroid who isn't Samus herself with or without armor so it nice to finally have two bad guys since there was just her since Smash 64 and that we still didn't have any new Zelda characters since Brawl like Volga, Zant, Fi, Midna, Revali or anyone else who isn't another Link itself. -No more newcomer about Mario, Pokemon and Fire Emblem because we get too much for them with the fact that most of the FE characters look like too much similar whatever if it the design or the moveset so they end up to be a waste a space and time for the Smash Bros game while somes others characters from Nintendo deserve better such Star Fox, Earthbound, Metroid and more but if Nintendo is too lazy for add new characters for their others franchises, they better to not add a newcomer for those 3 which are overrepresented or maybe remove somes of them who are useless and too similar to somes others characters like Pichu and Lucario or Mewtwo and Ike, Roy or Chrom because we are all agreed that it's called "Super Smash Bros", not "Super Smash Mario, Pokemon and Fire Emblem Bros" with a lot of favoritism toward those. -More new fresh stage because Ultimate suffer a lack of new stage who isn't from a old Smash Bros game stage port to Ultimate despite in previous Smash game it was more new stage and less old stage be back. -A good story mode with a lot of good cutscene like the Subspace Emissary mode in Brawl so not something like Ultimate about there is just a intro and somes ending and that all. If they manage to fullfit those goals or, if they can't do everything, if they just add more Metroid and finally more Star Fox characters in it and with the Banjo & Kazooie return, then I think I gonna be interested again for the Super Smash Bros serie because, to be honnest, it's been a while I didn't play Smash Bros Ultimate since the game have lost my attention with the fact that 2 years ago I was back in Super Smash Bros Brawl and end up to mods the game on my own since it was more easy on my side to mods Brawl than Ultimate and I don't hide I get more fun in Brawl than Ultimate by notice some issue in Ultimate like corpse who disappear few seconds later in stamina mode unlike Brawl which you can hit the corpse on ground without it disappear after wait few seconds and that the animation of the characters who flying in background if he get KO from air have one chance on two to not work in Ultimate unlike Brawl who always work. And, with the fact that I can finally create my own characters in Smash Bros Brawl by myself, I don't hide my own personalized game is more fun than Ultimate itself as I can have somes good characters who would never appear in a Smash Bros game such Skylanders, Digimon, Transformers and more characters as a Echo characters in Brawl so they better to not fail the next Smash Bros game because I think Ultimate was half good and half bad so it's good but it could have be better than that so if the next Smash Bros game fail to attract me, it will not be a issue for me to stay on Brawl since the modding community on it is still alive so one new Smash Bros game missed isn't so bad.
And this is why so many people want a new dev team for the next Super Smash Game so other series who hasn't gotten new fighters since Brawl can actually get new fighters that aren't over saturated with clones at best "echo fighters" should become assist trophies slash bosses that gives Kirby the copy ability of the fighter they echo off of.
Once again, you're challenging Nintendo to rebalance the roster with no clones. NINTENDO, HIRE THIS MAN! But seriously, fire emblem needs to be cut down. So I could see marth ike robin and Byleth returning with a newcomer, alear gaining powers from cut fire emblem reps. On the pokemon side, I could see pikachu, lucario, and greninja returning as they are very popular pokemon, alongside the new pokemon trainer from legends arceus wielding cyndaquil, dewott, and decidueye, and grovyle based on mystery dungeon. As for the Super mario reps. The must-haves are mario bros, peach, and daisy (if they make daisy different from peach). Bowser and junior. And newcomer paper mario, as he'd be different from mario. Sonic needs more reps like tails, knuckles, shadow, and eggman. Kirby needs more reps like Bandana dee and marx. Zelda needs more reps like the champions, skull kid, and ghirahim. Xenoblade chronicles need Noah and mio. Splatoon needs dj octavio. F zero needs blood falcon and black shadow. Pikmin needs the protagonist from Pikmin 4. Street fighter needs chun li. Final fantasy vii needs tifa, and the supposed smash reboot needs okami, puyo puyo, murasame castle, legendary starfy, and golden sun. I could go on, but it'd take too long. Besides, I'll let you talk about the franchises i haven't mentioned. (Because I haven't played them outside the NSO online service) Once again, it's nice to see someone passionate about Smash roster rebalance!
@@PoyoWildTransMigratorRokuYon It's not even Nintendo but ok? I'm not afraid to call out Sakurai if he's not talented enough to do anything new in terms of moveset's I mean theirs a reason Kirby is more successful without him, a lot of Smash Fans has com to terms Sakurai can't rebalance a roster without clones, Nintendo would need a new director focusing on Nintendo's big 7 in term of Newcomers with new original movesets maybe even retool or fully update the older fighters Nintendo's big 7 #1.Super Mario/Mario Party & Spin offs #2.Legend of Zelda #3.Pokemon #4.Kirby #5.Metroid Prime + Star Fox & F-Zero #6.Animal Crossing #7. Hey, I understand the anguish to a good extent, but considering this is public, you're just misinforming people by repeatedly putting words in Sakurai's mouth, and that's not cool.
I think people are getting too mad at Sakurai for not including cutscenes because they're being leaked and not nearly mad enough at the people that are leaking and ruining the story for everyone
Exactly. Sakurai stated that he puts a lot of effort into those and wants people to experience the craft while playing the game. But if no one is gonna really give credit where credit is due and go "cool hype cutscene." Then just give them the game with less, I'm sure a leak like that is sufficient enough for them since that's what they "want."
I don't think that the Smash series is really a story-driven game, it's just a fighting game for you to play with friends. The story mode was just that, an extra mode.
I believe that the reason why fans care so much about having a story mode with cutscenes in Smash is because they love seeing all of these various iconic characters who come from different franchises officially interact with each other in some manner and have some kind of relationship. Smash is also a crossover so naturally people value some form of character interaction in crossovers. It’s a good reason why crossovers tend to be special and very exciting for many. Even without a story mode, the character reveal trailers at least allow for the characters to interact with each other.
Well, when it's the same game over and over with a few extra people popping up eventually it becomes pretty tough justifying the 50$ price tag outside of hype for a character they prior were playing hard to get with...
Well there are people that really like the extra modes. Like what the guy in the video said, there needs to be other stuff in the game besides the main game mode.
If you do a crossover, but these wildly different characters don't interact with each other, then what's even the point? The cutscenes from Subspace were magical.
Sakurai though the same thing, until he realize that people don't care how magical they are and they rather have it Leaked rather then experience it through playing, so what was the point for all that work?
You know if they make a new smash game I just pray that they don’t add Edge, Kanya, Rabbid Peach and Midnite If you know Mario +Rabbids Sparks of Hope you know who I’m talking about 😅

I agree with most everything you say about leaks and how we can choose not to watch them, but here’s the thing: most RUclipsrs who leak unreleased game content put the spoilery stuff right in the video thumbnail. That means that I can just be scrolling casually through RUclips and stumble across a thumbnail with a huge image of the final boss of an upcoming game or something by no fault of my own, and by the time I see it it’s usually too late to look away. I didn’t click or choose to watch anything, but I still got spoiled. And obviously I could just stay off of RUclips in the days leading up to and during my plauthrough of the new game-and that’s often exactly what I do-but it’s not fair that I should feel forced to stay off of a platform I enjoy because of the actions of others. A long time ago, one of THE most notorious and criticized spoiler-thumbnail creators, ProsafiaGaming, posted a response to all the allegations against him regarding the subject in which he claimed that it was necessary to create a thumbnail that would hook potential viewers and entice them to watch his content, and so he had to put the spoilery content right on the thumbnail for that purpose. That is an utterly bullshit excuse. The title of the video alone is enough to convey exactly what the video entails. If I post a video entitled “Mario and Luigi: Brothership-Final Boss and Ending” (dating this comment here since Brothership is the soonest major upcoming Nintendo title at the time of this video) then anyone who reads the title in their recommendations feed will know exactly what they’re going to be seeing. And if they want to see it without caring about getting spoiled then they will watch it, and if they don’t want to spoil themselves or just don’t care about the subject then they will not watch it. The thumbnail, then, can literally just be a black screen with the game’s logo or the title of the video printed on it-it won’t change who’s interested in seeing the final boss and ending of Mario and Luigi: Brothership and who isn’t. There is no need to spoil anything in the thumbnail. There never has been, and there never will be. If creators would just post their leaks with non-spoilery thumbnails, then we could all browse RUclips without fear of being accidentally spoiled, and we (well, except for Sakurai I guess since he just hates leaks) would all live happily ever after.
I think Sakurai is just giving his opinion, meaning his games wont have cutscenes, no, the games will have cutscenes, idk why he says BIG MISTAKE, is just a opinion, what he thinks cutscenes need to be. In the end smash bros will have cutscenes no matter what he says. The only thing it will be imposible is a story mode with the characters of other games outside Nintendo, i know sega/konami and others will gladly accept be part of that, but others companies wont do it, specially Disney or other big gaming studio, they will ask for more money or % for doing that. Also they will want some control over what their characters will do if they are going to be in a story mode, to not break character.
Sakurai isn't even doing smash bros games anymore right? Wasn't that the whole reason he also started his channel, because he retired from game development? Could def be wrong tho.
Cut scenes, or even quick-time events within cutscenes. I think those are really engaging but I also just love cutscenes with interactions between some really rare characters I think extra portions added to the story with DLC characters would bring in more sales as well.
Don’t they have the options to not let people to stream or upload footage of the game? I think they did that with persona 5 which you couldn’t show anything passed a certain point.
My first exposure to Smash was from an emulated N64 version that my brother downloaded into the family computer. I was around 6-7 years old at the time and I was HOOKED to that game, So when I first saw Brawl cutscenes years later I was like "Wait, it's that game but look so much better!! I want to play it" I showed my brother the cutscenes too and he was also as excited as me to the point that when Smash 3DS came out, he bought it day one and we would take turn playing it since we only have one 3DS. So yeah, Brawl cutscenes was the thing that make me a fan of the series along with my brother. He even bought Ultimate on day 1 and play with me too.
Ngl. If there is a dream I always had was to have a Sonic and Shadow playable so I can use them in a team battles. Similarily, I always wanted to have a 2v2 battle: Mario and Luigi Vs. Wario and Waluigi. It would be such an iconic battle. On the side note, I could do then Mario and Luigi Vs. Sonic And Shadow, akin to SMBZ reference.
I wouldn't want to see a return of an SSE style story mode anyway. Don't want to see some drawn out cutscenes interspersed between gameplay in a bland and uninteresting game world. Melee's approach of referencing game worlds from the included franchises and integrating gameplay that calls back to those game worlds was better. Gave more variety to the experience and made it more fun to actually PLAY through. WoL was trash, but SSE wasn't any better. SSE's cutscenes don't even make sense; they act like they're afraid of being turned into trophies when they're already trophies to begin with and the way to revive people from their trophy state is super simple in the first place. Not to mention the inconsistencies with whether or not they're supposed to be hurt by fall damage. Long story short: Smash adventure mode is better off without cutscenes in the first place.
This is why I think letting someone else take on development wouldn’t be so bad Sakurai is amazingly talented but he is bitter about brawl to no end Sakurai made a big amazing story for kid Icarus uprising so I’m disappointed he’s not treated smash the same way
I agree tho on many points when it comes to cutscenes, especially in these days of our generation. Because 1, what's the point about anything or any game if there isn't cutscenes that just doesn't build up to the lore itself of the topic, but on what you would possibly miss out? And tbh in my opinion, I don't really care about leaks in general because almost everybody on the internet does it, so it shouldn't really be an upsetting thing to take away that *gift* from us. And another good point you mentioned in the video, is that I also liked the idea to agree that some of the characters really should get reworked and upgraded to make them more fun and playable again vs how terrible it is now. Because I can list a lot of characters that should be upgraded... 1. Wolf and his Up recovery, is garbage Because in smash brawl, he literally had the best up recovery back on the stage versus now in smash ultimate, it became limited which kinda sucks. 2. Upgrading Sonic to those movesets I've seen before that's like a fusion between his game and franchises+smash ultimate. Examples: like boost, sonic battle - down kick or whatever you call it as his forward aerial, giving him more advanced moves and etc. 3. Toon link because I mean he's pretty decent and ok but I did see this one video a while back that someone was making really good solid points on upgrading these characters that are canon to the games. And my last reason to say this is yeah, the roaster HAS to get cut down at some point because there shouldn't be a lot of these characters in the game that are either too op or too broken or just useless. Like Kazuya is FAR beyond broken, Terry is pretty broken too, Meta knight, Isabelle, and you pretty much see where this goes.
The cutscenes is what made people talk about the games still till this day. If a new Smash Bros ever come out, I hope I see more cutscenes as well. And for the people that doesn't like looking at them, Sakurai should give us the option to skip the cutscenes.
Obese Patrick: You took the only good part of Smash from us, now we're gonna starve. *Insert Baby Mario Crying Noise from Yoshi's Island* On a more serious note, the fact is, Sakurai makes the choices. I love Subspace Emissary, and I wish they'd bring back cutscenes and real story modes, but in the end, it's not our choice. Sakurai said he doesn't want it leaked. That makes sense. Nin10doland is complaining about not having cutscenes but is also one of the youtubers who gives leakers the attention they want.
This seems to be a Nintendo thing in general, in that they don't seem to understand the internet very well. It's the same issue they have with Let's Plays, thinking that they lower sales when in reality they act more like free advertising. They don't seem to understand that watching a game isn't the same as playing a game, so even if you watch a video covering the entirety of a game, that doesn't mean you won't want to actually play it (unless the game just doesn't look appealing to you). I feel like maybe Sakurai doesn't actually play games, because I think most people that do, understand there is a difference in how we consume games compared to traditional media. Also, if spoilers are an issue for you, it's totally possible to avoid them, that why videos/posts tend to have spoiler warnings. How much of a game's story gets spoiled for you is mostly up to you, so it's really a non-issue.
@SonicTheBlueBlur15, it's for people above 18 only. All videos with characters from media that is rated 18s is going to be age restricted, no matter how bad it really is. As long as the game is in the video, it is age restricted.
People hyped and gaslit themselves thinking it was something new entirely. Granted, I was one of them, too, but you don't see me complaining that it's a sequel to some old franchise like everyone else.
The first two Famicom Detective Club games are supposedly very good, and you could say the Switch remakes are new IP's in the west. Those who love Famicom Detective Club are certainly not mad about Emio being part 3 in the series.
Please Sakurai, tell me of all the people you heard of that wanted brawl but didn’t end up buying the game specifically cause they saw a cutscene online. I guarantee that number is 0
If anything, seeing those cutscenes WOULD make you buy the game instead. I think Sakurai's problem is his utter fixation on making cutscenes the "reward". He needs to change that mentality ngl...

Maybe it could’ve had a DLC story mode of smash bros ultimate like Subspace Emissary

Yeah someone isn't leak about Smash 6 and someone is paying the piece on doing a leak they shouldn't do it but they regret it hard.
I mean, if it’s that big of a deal of them leaking, just don’t include them on the version 1.0 product. Download the cut scenes with a day one patch and there we go.
Exactly they should include cutscenes in a patch update. Even if they were a demo just have only one cutscene and that’s it.
And also YT allows bots to detect copyrighted material so idk why they don’t just do that and block them globally?
(See the amount of channels with playlists or 13 Hour long videos showcasing every single cutscene in Xenoblade 3's main story alone.)
In-engine cutscenes tend to be comparatively simple and inexpensive to produce in terms of animation,* (VA's and other additions will still cost money if applicable) but Smash doesn't really have any of those.

It's incredible how in the subspace emissary there is little to no dialogue but you can still tell how the characters are reacting and thinking
Because the story itself is just a series of reactionary story telling. There's no philosophy behind any of it.
I COMPLETELY agree with that.

Still, you right about that first part.
Sakurai said that he thinks cutscenes are rewards, so i think a cool idea would be to have a movie mode like in ultimate, but you have to complete the story mode first to get it.

Sarcasm, yeah?
I think the best case scenario for a story mode in a future Smash game would be bringing in the Mario and Luigi team after Brothership, the Mario and Luigi games always portrayed the Mario characters perfectly and having an entire separate team working on just the story and cutscenes would let it be even more epic than subspace without taking time away from the gameplay devs.
I still wish we got a dlc that had all 16 of the missing stages.
Leaks are so much more harm than their worth

I want Dixie Kong, I think Sakurai hates her.

Maybe it’s going to be like it could’ve been a DLC story mode when the Subspace Emmisary returns with 3DS and Wii U fighters and ultimate fighters

Next smash game is ultimate deluxe and I’d put money on that
Didn't Sakurai say he wouldn't be working on any more Smash games?
he's said that every time since melee
It would be really cool for a Subspace Emissary sequel or remaster for smash bros ult. or the next smash bros, I loved the smash bros brawl story mode that is my childhood and that is honestly the most I want from Nintendo, that is my dream to come true, if it's possible I will the the happiest man ever.

Sakurai is lowkey biased against the Kirby series post his departure. He seems to only include content from games he was involved in
Ikr and his little pedophile fan base will try to come to his defense but hey look at it this way Kirby is doing much better without him
I know people will disagree with me but he has a fair point, things get leaked all of the time and spoilers are the worst thing for games in my opinion.
I mean, fans made an entire moveset for WALUIGI of all characters, and Sakurai never did _that._
He also really hates sequels for some reason.
The worst part is that it’s not limited to the creators of fan content; it’s also an insult to the devs of the official games. No one with any understanding of how games are made thought that Smash has ever been a solo project.
Of course, this isn’t even getting into other interpretations of his statement, none of which are favorable.

What we really need for the next Smash Bros:
-More Star Fox, Metroid, Earthbound, Kirby, Sonic, Mega Man characters because for some of them they didn't get any newcomer since Brawl except some who finally got something like the Metroid serie in Ultimate with Ridley and Dark Samus so, at least, somes new characters from Metroid who isn't Samus herself with or without armor so it nice to finally have two bad guys since there was just her since Smash 64 and that we still didn't have any new Zelda characters since Brawl like Volga, Zant, Fi, Midna, Revali or anyone else who isn't another Link itself.

Cutscenes should be a reward for not being on TikTok
Stories are a great part of games with these many characters. Just look at how many fan comics we have to read.
The closest thing to scratch the itch of subspace has been slap city. So much silly fun.

No. He would probably be a clone of Sonic, and that would not only be lame but a waste of moveset potential.

This isn't a math problem lil bro
1. Wolf and his Up recovery, is garbage
Because in smash brawl, he literally had the best up recovery back on the stage versus now in smash ultimate, it became limited which kinda sucks.
Sakurai tweetet himself too that he doesn't work on the next smash that will some others do 5 seconds of google are enough to find it.
source?
The cutscenes is what made people talk about the games still till this day. If a new Smash Bros ever come out, I hope I see more cutscenes as well. And for the people that doesn't like looking at them, Sakurai should give us the option to skip the cutscenes.
Obese Patrick: You took the only good part of Smash from us, now we're gonna starve. *Insert Baby Mario Crying Noise from Yoshi's Island*
On a more serious note, the fact is, Sakurai makes the choices.
By the way, do NOT insert Baby Mario’s Crying noise. It’s annoying!
Amazing Video!!!!!!!!!!
The next smash game should just be one big story mode with new fighters that can Carrey over to smash ultimate.
Are you doing a video talking about how people are mad that Emio isn’t a new IP, but a new installment in Famicom Detective Club?
I tried watching the new emio video but it said it was “age restricted”
@SonicTheBlueBlur15, it's for people above 18 only. All videos with characters from media that is rated 18s is going to be age restricted, no matter how bad it really is. As long as the game is in the video, it is age restricted.
People hyped and gaslit themselves thinking it was something new entirely. Granted, I was one of them, too, but you don't see me complaining that it's a sequel to some old franchise like everyone else.
I just, it's a borderline point and click game, and the way they teased it definitely made it feel like a horror game, I feel lied to
The first two Famicom Detective Club games are supposedly very good, and you could say the Switch remakes are new IP's in the west. Those who love Famicom Detective Club are certainly not mad about Emio being part 3 in the series.
I never wanted a new smash bros game
Please Sakurai, tell me of all the people you heard of that wanted brawl but didn’t end up buying the game specifically cause they saw a cutscene online. I guarantee that number is 0
