This happened to me yesterday (tried to drive the car and the parking brake fault message [and light] came on and the car would not move). The interesting thing is, it's the first time I've ever had it happen and along with this, I noticed, for the first time since I bought this new battery, about 6 years ago, the car was very slow to start (low battery)! In my case, I ended up playing around with it and turning the car off - waiting a moment and then starting it up again I think twice before I heard this fast beeping sound and then it worked. Drove to my destination and an hour later came back to the car and everything was fine. I also noticed the starter went faster, this time - I don't drive the car much and I think the long drive yesterday charged up the battery a bit. NOW, I went to the Jaguar forums and found an answer which seems to be fairly common: the indication they have is that if you have low voltage from the car battery, that can create the fault that happened with me. I strongly suspect that if I get a new battery (I've been lucky in that this one has lasted about 6 years) that might solve my issue/prevent the issue from reoccurring most likely. In the meantime, I'm wondering if someone had this problem and couldn't get it unlocked, I'm just wondering - not necessarily suggesting this - if they tried jumping the battery, maybe that would supply enough voltage to at least unlock the parking brake so that one could drive it to da battery place :-)
Excellent, clear video and instructions made this chore a simple one. Was able to unplug the relay without unbolting the module. Hardest part was removing and replacing the trunk interior panels without damaging them. By the way, it is possible to avoid the automatic parking brake engage function. According to the owner's manual, simply depress the parking brake release when turning off the car and removing the key. It works - no brake engagement. Thanks!
Thank you for your support, I really appreciate it and I am glad that this hastily thrown video is able to save someone some time. I have bypassed the automatic parking brake a couple of times for fun, but most times I actually enjoy utilizing it, such as at a stop light. It is a convenience that I don't have to worry about, like most people that drive automatic vehicles... but I still carry with me a green and red wire with alligator clips on one end & spade connectors on the other end - just in case.
TIP If you are working on rear disc brakes caliphers and 2ant to change them and parking brake is set on, then as a tip you can use this two jump wires method to disengage the EPB to get cable off the calipher.
If you get this dash faukt of parking brake fault its easier just to take two battery leads off the battery and just cross leads with key in to clear capcitor and put back on battery and see reset hand brake message on dash. This fault usually happens because battery voltage is low due car standing still.
You do have a choice push the e brake button down while holding button down pull key out. And ebrake is off and does not engage. ebrake does not engage until key is pulled out of ignition. don't have to hold the break down either .have 06 xj8 know alot of secrets about these jags like when car is locked and u push trunk button on boot or us term trunk lid you will hear by putting ear next to trunk and push the button on trunk you will hear the suspension tank reset. Also hold center control lock button. Down for 3 seconds and all windows go down repeat and all windows go up.. can keep going.
This was helpful though it didn't solve my problem but I could be able to hear the motor so glad the motor is good. Ordered a new module hope that would solve the problem. My e brake doesn't engage at all and on the switch, up = to brake off and down = brake on, on the dashboard light.
Do you know if the car can be run sans the module connected? Here in flat FL, we don't need no stinkin' parking brakes and would love to avoid this calamity again.
I think when I attempted it, I got a parkbrake warning but the car still drove normally (memory from 5 years or so ago) I thought it was a cold weather issue, but I suppose it catches up to all cars regardless of climate.
@@EdBwoy You are correct. That is how I am running mine right now after following your instructions to force my EPB to release on my 04 XJR. I drove through a monsoon flood here on the island the other day so I suspect there is water in the harness under the car. I'll check the harness & plug it back in after a couple of weeks and update this if there is any change. I have the JLR-SDD laptop and turned off the automatic brake application about 3 months ago so I didn't have to deal with this issue. It had worked automatically for 16 years, but the moment I messed with it.... If it ain't broke, don't fix it lol! I applied the EPB manually after I put the car on ramps for an oil change the day after driving through deep water.. Lesson learned.. Error code was C1786 FYI
Gary Lawless , I half-heartedly have to agree. My first winter with the car went very well. Last winter, I had 2 episodes with the brake and this year I'm fighting an undriveability issue (partly related to my video on trouble code P2135).
Yes 04 thru 09 xj8 xjr xj8 l and van plah are all sane build just with different features and are different in wheel base length and rear leg room n bigger back doors along with rear windows
Thank you so much and save me I deliver for Uber Eats I was stuck in a Chick-fil-A parking lot thank you so much took me a couple minutes I'm back on the road appreciate you man
You're most welcome, I'm glad I could help. I've been out of a Jag for a few years now, but I always thought this was a cold weather occurrence. Apparently it could happen anytime. Stay safe out there man.
+EdBwoy Nope, freezing!! SO - I managed to release the park brake, and move the car, but still got the errors, and it doesnt operate by the switch etc. battery, you think?
+BlackBeltSecrets The cold weather does bring out all the gremlins, doesn't it? Try testing the battery voltage or taking it in for a current test. Are you experiencing long crank durations? Also try to recalibrate the brake, which unfortunately might be impossible if the switch isn't working.
On my jaguar when thd Parking Brake Fault comes up i apply the handbrake & remove the top & bottom connector plugs from the module for a few minutes. When i reconnect tha fault is cleared
I just experienced the same problem on my 2007 XJ8L and it seems the module is not located in the same position as the 2005 model. Would someone advise where I can locate it?
+Charles Gaura , I went by the service manual. As I mentioned, my was supposed to be closer to the skin of the car, but I found it somewhere else. If you don't have access to the manual, just remove the trunk trim material and follow the wires backwards. At least you have an idea what the wire colors and the module look like.
Worked for jag for 10 years I have 2 and am thru them like bad weather to figure things out to be ahead of the game when things go wrong always try to have extra hoses that are for radiator to coolant reservoir and to thermostat housing well as the blue push connectors for the metal hoses that go to heater core and ac unit thos loc are left side if standing in front of car between engine and pass sude wheel well those bust to because they plastic as rubber and plastic both swell and Crack when old.. help 99 percent to have extras of these parts because this you can do your self and don't get stuck or have to wait to get or order and wait for parts..so long for now
to save time just start at 3:15, or 3:45.
talk less dude, get to the point more

Why parking brakes have to be electronic when the traditional works so well. Really wanted these cars, but now off my list.

Works like a charm! - thanks
my dad's ( R.I.P) car has been or 10-year stand under my garage for this issue I would be super thankful for fully redoing it, if you can please?
The handbrake or emr break don't go off

My XJ is the same, neighbour. They hate the cold.

It seems to point at something slowly but steadily failing, if you have to do it often.
@@EdBwoy You could be right as i have done this 3 times in nearly 2 years. So for so good & if i have to spend on it i will.

Might be behind the fuel door release ha e to remove that rear electric moduel location for these moduels do vary depending on year make and model
