I've had a 2.5 stype and 2.7d stype over the years. This problem usually occurs during cold weather. Forget all this stuff like removing battery etc. When you first get in the car and turn ignition on you will know theres a handbrake fault as you get a beeping sound. Look at your dash at it should say park brake fault. 1. stay sat in car 2. Take keys out. 3. Lock the door with key (this seems to help to reset system) 4. Put your foot on the footbrake and hold it there. 5. Put key in and start car keeping foot on brake pedal. It now should be released and dash fault gone.
While putting it in park hold down on the parking release lever while keeping your foot on the brake. Then turn off the car while still holding the lever down. Once the car is off you can release the lever. This causes the parking brake to not engage in the first place. So when you start the car the next time no problem. Do this everytime you shit off the car.
This is caused by low voltage on the battery immediately after the starter motor has operated, the voltage drops and is too low to activate the park brake. A new battery is the best fix. Otherwise, just rev the car up a bit so that there is a bit of surface charge, then turn off, wait a few seconds, turn on again and you should find the fault gone. Then if you start it again, if you got a good surface charge, it should not show the fault. Until you replace the battery, the fault will keep coming back. You can measure the voltage of your battery cold in the morning - should read 12.6 volts minimum. If lower, it's on it's way out. Hope this helps understand this problem, as otherwise it seems to be a mystery to most people.
Interesting that you said that because yesterday when this happened, I also noticed when starting the car that the starter sounded sluggish, for the first time I can remember. So that makes total sense. In my case I did end up starting the car and letting it run a bit and shutting it off couple different times and then...it worked. New battery would be my solution, methinks. 🙂
Hi Louis, they actually come out not too bad, if you take a back wheel off you can see that 1 side has more room the the other so you can slip it out. Is emergency release not under handbrake button in centre console, usually just a cable you have to use a hook and pull up sharply. 👍🏻
Excellent video man, i used to have a c4 citroen picasso with electronic parking brake as well but every time i changed the brake pads or discs it would re-calibrate itself, obviously in some cars a computer re-calibration is needed good to know about this jaguar... cheers
If you have disconnected the battery, you will need to recalibrate various systems on the S type after reconnection. The EPB is one of these.follow this procedure to recalibrate the EPB:Confirm that the message "NOT CALIBRATED" or "APPLY FOOT AND PARK BRAKE" is displayed on the instrument cluster message centre. This indicates the the parking brake is in calibration mode. Lightly press the foot brake. Apply the parking brake by using the EPB switch. Release the parking brake. Release the foot brake. Confirm that the brake warning lamp is no longer illuminated on the instrument pack and that "NOT CALIBRATED" message is no longer displayed in the message centre. Apply and release the EPB 5 times to ensure no error is present. ****************************************************************************************Just another electronic gizmo to cause more problems, IMO... Nothing wrong with a good old fashioned handbrake. :-)
Excellent video..mine is doing the same thing except it won't apply rather than be stuck on..failed during the cold weather. Having it looked at next week..the sounder going beeb beeb beeb whilst driving is driving me nuts lol !!
Hi a lot of your cars come to you second hand from other garages it's very worrying that they don't seem to know how to fix some of the intricate technology of modern cars.good video.
Geoffrey Rawlings I have that a lot... Most of the places do replace parts... if does not work, they replace something else... Diagnostics take time, and time is money... But replace the wrong part is also money... wasted... Go figure... Thank you for watching and for your comment!
This (usually) happens when you have a lame battery...or when the car has been sitting ( with alarms/clocks,ect slowly draining the battery)...especially in cold weather.....the battery voltage drops slowly ( below 12.3 volts and 'the system' senses this ! ....its a stupid idea...as the battery can still have cranking amps..and can usually still start the car !).....run the car for a few minutes ( assuming the battery/charging system is actually ok !)...to get the battery VOLTAGE back above 12.3 volts....then disconnect the battery for a few minutes.....re-connect ,then follow the dash's reset instructions (foot on brake, then pull parking brake usually )....and it usually resets...although you will usually have to reset your radio code/memory setting.....I have done this a few times,as I have mulitple vehicles and irregular use of my Jag...( I keep a 10mm spanner in the boot so as not to get stranded if I am away from home )...( and yes ...my Battery IS healthy...)....take the car for a good run....it should re-charge the battery sufficiently......why they put this in Jags is beyond me ...never had a problem with ANY of my previous cars !.....(does anyone know of a permanent solution to this,as its spoiling what is otherwise a good car ?)...
Hi there, I'm getting C1802 - I can hear the motor engaging and disengaging in sequence and the message 'Cannot Apply Park Break' comes up. Would you have a fix for that, or some tip to share on what could it be please?
I tried resetting didnt work so i lut it in service mode reset it put back in service mode gave error as allready there there so should hear clicking sound for second turn engine of remove key out back in turn on engine then mine was sorted hope thos helps others
Hi I have had two of these cars with the loom damaged where it run along the sub frame, not very easy to see without releasing the loom from the frame after disconnecting it from the controller. HTH
My parking brake won't set. I pull the handle up, the motor works, pulls the 2 cables going to calipers. But then it doesn't hold. Instead, it releases by itself immediately and the "can't set parking brake" message appears. Any suggestions?

Nice one,that just fixed mine
wonderfulllll //it really work/
@@ROGI3321 but only once. Next day, when i changed battery situation with fault happened again. But already i couldnot reset that.....

this worked would add that I did have to hit my parking break to complete the last step but it worked

That's great?

This just discouraged me from ever getting a car with an electrical hand brake period!
Lol

Just remove the negative battery connector for about 20 mins found it will release the brake make sure you got your radio code if you do this though

Hi
Thank you for the tip and for watching!
👍
Code for s-type is ">>" "PTY" and "A.MEM" Press all three simultaneously

Can also occur after working on the charging system like alternator replacement..typically battery loses power prior to changing the alternator..

It can be a couple of things...
Check the hand brake mechanically, to make sure everything is OK...
👍👍👍
Sorry... this is a part-time thing for me...

Hi, great video. Sorry if I missed it but what was the actual fault? Was it simply that it needed to be calibrated?
Indeed it was...

What is the utility of an e-brake? A simple cable works well and never breaks!
