Jaguar CD Player audio aux-in mod, only for cars with ALPINE equipped cars

IMPORTANT NOTE: This only works on cars with the ALPINE audio system fitted, and is quite an old method to do the aux-in. ALSO PLEASE NOTE: contrary to the information in the video, the part number suffix of the CD player is not important in relation to whether you have an Analogue or Digital player! Amazing job, I believe you are the first person to figure this out using the Cd player as opposed to the tape method. Keep the videos coming hardly anyone does mod videos on these XJ's. Subbed!
Thanks a lot for your web tutorial. I just completed Alpine premium sound upgrade to my X-Type 2006 2.2d and converted my cd into aux in. Now my parrot mki9000 works through cd and play music from my phone over BT. Once again many thanks. My CD was different board as on your film but worked exactly as on your web link under the RUclips video.
Worked like a dream!!! My Cd player model was 2W93-18B876-BN. I mounted the 3.5 mm jack in my arm rest pocket. My car is a 2007 XJ8L

Hi great vid.. I did a simular mod to my old Suzuki and now my X-type... you can also do this mod and use Audacity to create an 80min silent sound track and burn this to a cdr (literally a cd with a single 80min track with no sound) that way you can still use the cd player if you wish ....no need cut the audio tracks from the cd player ...its how I do it anyway.... only drawback is that you have to remember to keep the 'blank' cd in the stereo when using the 'Aux' input...unless you like mixing your music :)

Does anyone know if it is possible to fit a cd front end audio system to the Jaguar XE? The car only comes with a radio..
Or even a cassette player would be an enormous improvement on the present system.

If you have the standard audio system, you can feed directly the TDA7385 with an analog input.

Thanks for the video. Would it be easier to replace the factory radio with a aftermarket stereo receiver, but having to bypass the audio optical connections + rewire the audio system in general?
It's not easy to replace the original radio as the Bluetooth phone, Jaguar Voice, and Navigation systems all transmit audio via the D2B fibre optic bus, which is only compatible with the factory radio
Great mod - I am wondering could you just solder the aux L, R and ground and leave the CD player connected. And just don't play CDs while using the Aux and don't play the Aux while using the CDs? Or is it possible that feeding sound into the CD player from the aux would damage it?

I've tossed around the idea of adding an aux cable to my stock x350 lwb radio/cd player using the jagdriod aux-in mod.
My question is if after doing this will It render the cd player useless for regular cds, will I have both options for audio source either cd or aux cable?

With the version in this video, yes you'll lose the CD player audio (although you could switch this externally with a relay). I have a new version of the mod which I will publish a video soon, which allows you to switch between CD audio and aux-in audio although the mod is a little more complex.

Hello Ben. I'm admiring your hard work on adding AUX to the X-Type. I've successfully added an AUX input to a player for analog setup but I couldn't figure out what kind of resistor should I use for a digital player. It's a 100K but what is the correct wattage? Thank you in advance.
Hi, I replied by email but for the benefit of others reading this a standard quarter watt resistor will be sufficient as it's not passing any significant current, it's just a pull-down resistor to prevent noise and interference when the SPDIF input is floating and not connected to anything.

Hi. If'd use analog-digital converter to play sound from any external source, like a phone or some player, do you know if I should feed the head unit with the signal from coax or toslink output of the ADC? I could provide the spdif(toslink) signal directly from a ADS' diode, which has 3 pins (Vin, Vcc, GND) I suppose, but if the coax output voltage and current are the same, I'd obviously prefer to use it, as it's already an electrical signal, rather than to solder cables inside that converter.
If you're using an ADC to get analogue audio from a phone etc into a car fitted with Standard Audio (that requires SPDIF input) then yes simply use the Co-ax output of the ADC into the SPDIF input of the CD player
@@JagDroid Thanks for replying. With my idea validated I can now order an ADC and once I receive it I'm putting everything together. I hope the jag audio works with 48 or standard CD 44.1 kHz sampling as those are the only ones supported by that ADC I ordered :x
Will this work on the xtype with satnav I just want to connect my I pod to the system I can't connect with bluetooth it won't connect for music

ive done this to my cd player (as I mentioned previous) and it didn't work, as it's a standard (not premium) player, but if I bought an analogue to digital converter, would that work?
The mod in this video only works on cars with Alpine audio, there is another version in the link in the description which can work on cars with standard audio along with an ADC. I have attached my stereo cable to the AM radio pins (as I'm not using the AM radio), but can you tell me how to cut out the original AM signal ?

The audio from the Navigation is transmitted digitally over the D2B optical network. You can't splice analogue audio into it this way I'm afraid...

Hi. Going to ask what is probably a dumb question. I have an x350 with standard cd player. If I do the digital version of the upgrade am I correct that only single wire plus ground is soldered and if so does this work with the output from my 3.5mm phone jack as does that not have 2 channels?
Hi Neil, if you have standard audio (i.e. no ALPINE badges on your front door speakers) then you need to do the digital version of the mod, which uses a single wire (plus ground) which carries a digital SPDIF format signal that encodes both stereo channels onto a digital stream. You can't directly plug a phone headphone output into this, you'd need to use an Analogue to Digital converter perhaps something like this: www.thomann.de/gb/lindy_audiokonverter_analogspdif.htm?ref=search_prv_9 to convert your phone stereo analogue output into the SPDIF format.

hi, just tried this on 4x43-18b876-be, think my soldering is OK but it didn't seem to work...the cd's still play also despite scratching out those 2 strips. am I doomed?
Sounds like you have Standard audio in your car not the Alpine system. This is mentioned in the video description.

Hi Ben, I doubt if this thread is still alive after all this time. I just wonder..on the soldering part you mention number 5 is right audio...however you solder the white line on that particular pin. But white stands for left audio right? I guess what you said is correct and the soldering is not done accordingly or am I fully mistaken? Hi different problem. Wanting to put rear view camera on. Nav fitted. No inputs to receive picture. Is they a way to install RGB to put it on screen. They is a short video on here. Which is Useless. It doesn't show how it's wired up. Any help would be great. X type.

Great story - BUT : What happened to the yellow and brown wire after solding them. I did not see that they has been connected when teh Player is back in the car This is irritating
Good point, that is explained on my website here: jaguar.willcoxonline.com/part-4 (except I changed to using black/red wires some time after making this video). The extra wires are only needed when doing the full Android conversion shown on my site.
The explaination is well done but still too confusion for me: very simple question : I have a cheap smartphone, a bluetooth receiver that works fine with a 3.5 mm male jack plug. I do not ned SKIP function etc. Only request : get the music aux in. Is it enough that I sold the 3 wires from the video on pin 3,4,5 as shown as one end of a female 3.5 jack plug ? you also mention in teh video to cut something to interrupt the signal (11.50 min) do not understand ! Am I stupid ??
I see you connected both ground wires together, will this not take away the stereo and turn it into mono? If not you should offer a service for you to do this for people I would expect it would earn a few quid..
Steve Newton an analogue stereo signal generally uses a shared ground (for example a 3 pin 3.5mm stereo jack) so it’s absolutely normal to common them together. It doesn’t affect the stereo signal :)

Thanks for this. I tried this on a BD with the alpine colour sat nav sovereign spec. As soon as I cut the LR tracks I got CD Error. Resoldering them made the cd work again. I assumed I would get double audio from CD player and Phone when both connected ie. non isolated CD player... but nothing from phone...only CD audio. Any ideas?
ok. quick update. I tried the different mod as per your website and that worked. Isolating the pins via tape on the ribbon cable did not upset the unit. However, I still don't get sound from the 1st mod using pin pads 3,4,5.
now working except audio via aux in to front of car is very minimal. Normal radio works fine...ho hum.
Do you mean the volume of the aux-in is very quiet? What device are you using to play the audio, and have you ensured that it's volume is turned up?
Aux in is currently medium volume (Galaxy s5 on full volume) because front speakers are barely registering and rears are echoing. Also my fm transmitter seems quieter...although radio fm channels seem fine.

You can add a double-pole changeover switch or relay to switch between the CD audio and the aux-in, this is used on my full Android conversion see here for more info: jaguar.willcoxonline.com/home

solder your aux cable to the two points he said to cut at 11.25, ur ground to any ground point. then just use a silent CD =]

It's not double din, but yes it's the CD player that goes with the factory touchscreen

Yes you can connect a bluetooth receiver to the aux-in connection and it will work - only if you have Alpine Premium Audio in your car

MrChillout1994 You can burn a blank CD so it will play with no sound. I used a free program called Audacity.
This would work? This way you could use cd or aux, what ever you prefer, just by inserting a cd with silent track? Or does this mean that the AUX does not play audio at all?
Over thinking takes all you blokes down a rabbit hole. There's an adapter for HDMI to RCA that can simply go in the trunk on the plug in to the Navigation DVR. Pluf in a Roku and you can use your phone and Roku remote or computer wireless keyboard.
For less than $50.00 us.
There is no RCA input on the Navigation DVD player, you're probably thinking of the rear entertainment input which was an optional extra only fitted on some models
load of rubbish the quality is excellent on FM transmitter iv got one
Good for you Dave I'm glad you're happy with your FM transmitter! But if you can't hear the difference between that and a direct line-in, I suggest you visit your GP and get your ears syringed!
